for todd piro. >> i'm ashley in for carley shimkus. we talked earlier, it was dicey getting into new york state with snow and ice and flooding. we had a mixed bag of everything this morning. glad to be with you here safely on this monday morning. tens of thousands of americans are without power on the coast. the storm canceling thousands of flights over the holiday weekend and reeking havoc on the road. extreme weather in florida, four tornados tear through neighborhoods levelling homes. janice dean will have the latest on the storm coming up. another fox news alert. two teens arrested in the texas synagogue shooting. >> they said the attack did not target the jewish community. lauren joins us live. >> terrorism investigators in the u.k. haven't said much else about the teens they detained or if they face charges with the attack in texas. here is a look at the suspect. a 44-year-old british national traveled to the u.s. in early january. on saturday, he took four hostages at a colleyville synagogue, he was demanding the release of a prisoner, lady al qaeda. he was killed after an hour-long standoff, thankfully all the hostages were able to escape. >> we do believe from our engagement with this suspect, he was focused on one issue and it was not specifically related to the jewish community, we continue to work to find motive and will continue on that path. >> after swift criticism for what seemed like downplaying antisemitism in the attack, the fbi put out a new statement. this is a terrorism-related matter in which the jewish community was targeted and is being investigated by the joint terrorism task force. others are calling for a wider investigation, over concern there could be copycats. >> the fbi has fanned their investigation out to london and tel aviv, this is an international investigation and there is something more here. we haven't seen a radicalized attack in a few years now and it is disturbing to see it raise its ugly head again. >> the family says he suffered mental health issues. it was suggested the suspect illegally because the gun on the street. >> griff: lauren, thank you. this morning, former assemblyman tearing into the incident sglchlts what in god's name is going on with the fbi? >> it all matters to me, it affects our children from the crt theory that they want to divide our children, they want to put them in separate classes there they are vaccinated, unvaccinated, oppressed or a presser, this is not how to raise our children. teach them history, teach them math, all of the education that public school should give our children without indoctrinating them with socialist theories. i think it is important that youngkin actually remanded eliminated the mask legislation that was passed. loudoun county literally started to take accelerated math out of the curriculum and said those privileged enough to actually excel in math now needed to sacrifice in order to balance out those that had not excelled in math. so we had students whose teachers were changing their grades from a's to b's or b's to c's because other students did not test well. >> griff: rachel, let me ask you, we saw in brooke's report, white house press secretary jen psaki taking the side of the arlington schools over masks and the governor weighing in. what is your reaction to jen psaki's tweet and comments? >> our children have had enough. i think this is enough. i think our children need to be able to go to school, they need to see each other's faces, be able to understand how to annunciate words and relate to other people face-to-face. we have no proof that children wearing a mask have eliminated any of their health risk. so first of all, if was if they got vaccinated, they would be able to go back to school and not wear a mask. now they are vaccinated and still have to wear a mask. and really it is only protecting the teachers and the teachers were the first ones that were to get vaccinated. none of the laws make any sense that they are imposing on us. it is just another form of our government trying to get us to depend on them and not think for ourselves and lfb to their opinion and make mandates based on recommendations that aren't accurate. >> griff: quickly, 20 seconds, rachel, how are your three kids doing in school? >> good morning. today as we celebrate the birthday of my uncle, the rev end dr. martin luther king jr., this is a day for remembering and for service. i, of course, will be visiting areas of need in atlanta, georgia, delivering food. it is very cold here and there are people who automatically have a need, but more of a need because of the climate today. so i believe it is to be a day of service and as chairman of the center for the american with afpi, our goal of course is to serve america. so i'm going to be remembering my uncle, but taking care of people today, as well. >> ashley: dr. king preached about hope and keeping hope alive. today people struggle with that. what are your thoughts and suggestions to people and how they can keep hope alive? >> janice: incredible, historic storm. folks got over a foot of snow in north and even south carolina. reports of several inches in some areas. look at iowa, 14 inches. north carolina, over 15 inches of snow and this system is not done yesterday. it started in the plains and doef across the tennessee and missouri river valley to the mid-atlantic. along the coast, it is too warm, it is coastal rain and flooding and strong winds in some cases of hurricane-forced gusts along the coast toward new england. there is future track. we are dealing with interior sekszs of northeast and cold air will bring a lot of lake effect snow over the next 24 to 36 hours. wind gust forecast. look at that. boston over 70 mile per hour winds later this afternoon. we will see wind gust in excess of 10 on to 20 miles per hour, you will definitely see airline delays and cancellations and it is going to be tough traveling, as well. we have coastal flood alerts issue the nor'easter is pushing the water from the atlantic along the coast. that is risk for areas of long island toward connecticut and long island, massachusetts and new england today. that is a big concern along the coast and then we have winter weather alert for millions of folks especially over interior sections of the northeast and the mountains of the virginias and north carolina. winter storm warnings in effect for the next several hours. we could easily get over a foot of snow in the next few hours. the snow still to come across the mountains of the mid-atlantic, mid-south and throughout new england today. winter weather advisories in place and cold air is still going to be in place over the next few days. we've got arctic air, several areas of it that are going to come together the northeast, as well as parts of the midwest and the plain states over the next couple of days. there is your forecast. our nor'easter today and potential of rain along the coast. the west coast, calmer weather for the central u.s. long-range forecasts show reinforcing shots of arctic air, that means the snow will not go anywhere and more chances of winter storms in the weeks ahead. ashley and griff, buckle up. >> griff: no polar vortex. my goodness. tornados in florida?
