office. president biden failed to keep his promises from day one. he promised the world on covid, we would get rid of the virus and provide more testing. >> the administration's failure on testing is colossal. we'll deal honestly with the american people and we'll never ever quit. that's how we'll shut down this virus. >> i'm not going to shut down the economy. i'm going to shut down the virus. we need to scale up testing so anyone who needs one can get a test. after 10 months of the pandemic we still don't have enough testing. it's a travesty. brian: it's so much easier to be a candidate. the president never ramped up the testing after campaigning all of trump's supposed failures, one of them was testing. you saw people waiting hours in line to get testing. what does our 46th president decide to do? he decides to punt to the governors. let them handle it. >> look, there is no federal solution. this gets solved at the state level. brian: when joe can't solve a problem, the only other action is to deflect it. crime soared across the nation this year. in chicago there was a 60% increase in murders from 2019. not to mention the millions stolen and destroyed in the smash and grab. crime never seems to be a biden administration priority. his doj is giving $1.6 billion to cities to battle crime after denying it is happening. he stopped construction of the border wall his first day in office. just in november 173,000 plus encounters at the border, double the number from 2020, and four times the number from 019. not to mention $130 million in fentanyl seized at the border. president biden is closing gaps in the wall though he's still fighting courts. kamala harris is still mia. she asked what her biggest failure that has been as vp. >> what has been your biggest failure? >> to goth -- to not get out of dc more. i mean that season searly. brian: port backlogs causing supply chain issues. the question should have been with multiple choice. inflation soared up to almost 40-year highs. things are expected to get worse. in january you have food manufacturers saying some of the prices will rise as much as 20%. but joe says inflation was just transitory. by far the most epic fail is afghanistan. the taliban took over in a flash and americans had until august 31 to get out. 13 died. >> we'll do everything in our power to get all americans out and our allies out. if there are american citizens left we'll stay until we get them all out. brian: that's a flat out lie. he didn't follow through. things have gone wrong with this administration. this year will they get more luck? will they get better outcomes with these policies? it's not likely. in 2021, and 2022. karl rove. you were a columnist at the "wall street journal." how much did you predict? >> i think i had 25 predictions and got 75% of them right. but when i got them wrong i got them way wrong. i predicted joe biden would govern as a traditional democrat but he went way out on the left wing of his party. on a bunch of them, on the ones i got wrong, that was the biggest one. i believed him. he said the biggest issue with the incumbent was messing up on covid and i will get it right and i'll be a normal president and normal democrat. but he hasn't been a normal president or normal democrat. >> brian: are we lessor more polarized. >> i think we are the same. residents being up upset about trump or biden. we are in a tribal moment. everybody goes to their corner. democrats think biden is doing a great job just as republicans thought trump was doing a great job. the key is independents. the independents who put him into office have turned against limb. covid. he bungled that. inflation. we are all feeling it when we go to the store or the pump. the economy slowing down. spending going wild. the american rescue plan which was supposed to be covid related its mostly an expansion of the welfare state. build back better turned out to be a fraud. if you take the gimmicks out it's $3 trillion in debt and $5 trillion in new extending. afghanistan, immigration, you did a good job explaining what they did wrong on that. it's been disaster, debacle, mistake and error after error. he finally got around to thanking president trump for operation warp speed, but the country has been so poisoned by both sides. this president had a chance to say things and do things in a different fashion. but instead with one major exception he always found a way to blame it on his predecessor. it hasn't been healthy for his presidency. we end the your with 30% of the american people thinking the country is going in the right direction and 62% thinking we are on the wrong track. it's hard to turn that around. brian: no one can tell you anything about running a campaign. buff he promised the handle the virus and promised to get testing. anybody responsible for so many american deaths should not be breath. he did not control the virus or get the testing. the numbers of deaths and the million of shots in the arms to start have exceeded donald trump's. it's hard to spin your way out of that. >> i remember being in the white house in 2002 and 2003 in the briefings about sars. i remember the guy mow led the briefings was talking about all the things we didn't know and we had to be cautious about predicting what would happen. how transmissible was it? what kinds of mitigation could be taken. what kinds of therapeutics. he said we have to be cautious about projecting that we know what we know and that we know everything. biden came in promising to eradicate the virus by july 4. and dr. fauci was right, there are lots of imponderables, and this administration acted like it was under control. he said by september they would have hundreds of millions of tests, and it turns out they hadn't even ordered them. people are not having much confidence in him. they told me watters and i got you. where is watters? brian: he's cuter with eyebrows. i'll make it up with a series of radio interviews. >> thank you so much. brian: in his column he says he believes the house and senate will go to the republicans. let's bring in laura curran who lost a nail biter. she believes it's because of what's happening at the white house. i didn't see many people upset with the job you were doing and many of which are republicans. laura, have you figured out why you lost? has it come out from washington? >> i think it has. my party, the democratic party just conveys weakness. it almost feels like elder abuse with what's going on with president biden. he has a hard time putting a sentence together. everyone gets nervous listen to him talk. we need someone who exudes competence and confidence and sets a reassuring tone. and we are not getting that at the top. i think karl rove was right. i think it will be a bloodbath for the democrats in the mid-term. i think it's important to have a strong two-party system. i think it's good for democracy. but it seems like we are giving the republicans ammunition to shoot us. people want to be reassured government is there for them, not telling them what to do, but making sure the roads are in good shape and the sewage is properly run. and my party is not delivering this right now. brian: is there a place for moderates? joe manchin has been vilified by his extreme left. do you feel the same? is there a place for you in the democratic party? >> i served as county executive in a county that's larger than 10 states. there is that pressure. but there will always be pressure when you are in government. do you have a strong backbone? do you do what you think is right? are you serving your constituents with the best you can. not worry being the twitter mob or people disapproving of you. if you put your head on the pillow knowing you have done everything you can and done it well, i don't think you can go wrong. brian: we'll see if you can back the cops like you did and be against crime like you are, if you can be a member of the democratic party. >> happy new year. brian: when we come back. should you have a say in your child's education? parents should have no role in their children's education? professor wilfred riley, charles love, and shimika michelle. i will start with you. i was shocked to hear that. terry mcauliffe tried that. he lost. what does she have against parents? >> nikole hannah-jones is an example of what happens when a woman marries a man who takes her last name. i don't know if it's because she is a mixed american and she is privileged because she is half white. i think it's an insult to americans that we don't have the intelligence to know what our child should be learning? should i think my child should be taught calculus through the prism of racism or race? absolutely not. brian: in terms of what she is getting to, the history of this country built on stolen land off slavery, that's what she wants to get across. >> it's terrible. i think we are bearing the lead here. to be fair to her, i don't think she is saying parents shouldn't be involved. what she is saying is we don't want parents writing curriculum. buff she is not saying that. my book "race crazy" has a chapter on every chapter in the 1619 project. she is saying it's not a work of history, it's a work of history. now she is saying it's a work of journalistic not history. i urge her to take my book and it's as a critical thinking exercise and see which is true history. brian: the headlines on 1619, if you push back on it it means you are denying reconstruction failed and there was slavery. >> nikole hannah-jones original comments fall into the cult of the professional or cult of the expert. you can't criticize anybody with an upper to middle class degree. and that's silly. there is the expertise of surgery. then there is expertise like teaching or coaching that some people have done at some level. where the average parent can have input. the average parent is correct to say it doesn't sounds like 1619 is an unbiased view of american mist.
