steve: yes, it is, it's the 21st. ible. carley: heard it here you taught me something. brian: refer to them 24 hours a day. steve: you don't need to know it's the 21st. brian: like nothing we have ever seen before. carley: you think that's on the app. steve: equinox, too. carley: and there is equinox. brian: first thing looked at the calendar formulated it and talk more about that. a couple of things. this the is time of year when you realize you forgot who you got in the grab bag. process of elimination. steve: they stopped doing grab bags with covid. brian: i think they do. a lot of people do. they don't want to buy for everybody. carley: grab bag would have to come with a glove in some circle. my grab bag grab it. brian: i don't do hygiene theater. steve: there you go. theater, speaking of theaters they are all closed because of covid. carley shimkus is in because anxiously is taking the week off. carley: much deserved break. steve: so spoking of covid, one of the things a lot of people are traveling. and a lot of requirements are you have got have a covid test before you can travel on cruises and stuff like that. the problem is here in new york city, for instance, there are lines to get tested that are out the door and around the block. there are so many people who want to get tested right now. and that is one of the reasons why later today this afternoon the president of the united states, he is going to announce the latest, you know, wave of restrictions and whatnot. he is going to say essentially no more lockdowns but, covid tests. he is going to announce 500 million covid tests, the military is going to help hospitals, that's going to be based on how they did it in the early days with fema. carley: that's right. the military shows support for hospitals millions of free rapid tests. you bring up such a good point how crunched people are in getting. steve: desperate. carley: i was talking to one of my girlfriends. she waited to get a covid test because she is traveling out of the country for five hours on sunday. brian: that's unbelievable. carley: to get a test. 2021. i remember when i went to get a test last year. city the clinic in the new york city had a way to sign up on phone and come back later in the day. i can't believe that isn't implemented in every clinic. brian: right now. steve: a lot of the restrictions are you have to have it within 24 hours it used to be 72. now people are really panicked. carley: that's right. brian: so far everyone is panicked over a variant that nobody ever says we are looking out. we are being cautious. but, even though the 70% of the cases of the new people testing positive are omicron. we have had one death with somebody 50 years old in texas with underlying conditions. overall for this nation of 330 million. deaths are up 3%. even though cases are up 20%. it's easy to get. it spreads quicker but there is no indication that it's even resulting in hospitalizations. so it's good to be warned but i believe we are looking at a nation overreacting and we are going to see a president who is going to do the things that you guys just mentioned those three major things, but he is also going to blister of the unvaccinated again. not the way to do it. i love what the vice president said, the vice president says it's not the blame game. it's not the time. the leadership way he said i'm not going to mandate vaccinations we don't do that i'm not going to mandate masks obviously he changed all that this summer. obviously his poll numbers have shown that they are actually paying the price for that and it's further polarizing this country. stop blaming people. you have put it out there. you cannot tell people what to do. you cannot tell them to overeat. you can't tell them to smoke. can you tell them not to do both things. we will see what happens. vilifying people that aren't vaccinated don't waste your time today. yelling at them has not worked so far. steve: there are going to be a lot of restrictions. in company fox, coming up the beginning of next week to be in this building you have got have had the shot. carley: following the new york city mandate. brian: because we are in the city. steve: it's company policy. so, now, it -- you know there are curious questions about why hasn't the government changed the language about what does fully vaccinated mean? does it mean you have two shots? does it mean you have two shots and the booster. brian: looks like they lied. double vaccinated. the durability. now the booster shot. now all of a sudden watch they start the shame culture when it documents booster. oh, you don't have a booster. please go into the corner. carley: it is beginning to feel like 2020 again essentially because you have jen psaki taking questions almost exclusively yesterday about joe manchin, we are going to talk about that later. of course, omicron is on everybody's mind. steve: it is. carley: she did say that president biden's speech will be a warning to the unvaccinated. listen here. >> this is not a speech about locking the country down for those who choose to remain unvaccinated he will issue a stark warning and make clear unvaccinated individuals will continue to drive hospitalizations and deaths. that is not trying to scare people or maybe it is trying to make clear to people in the country what the risk was are here of not being vaccinated. steve: and going back to what i was saying about the booster and the government still is, you know, we're in the gray area about what is fully vaccinated. will it include the booster? i read that apparently donald trump admitted at an event in dallas that apparently he got the booster and apparently some people in the crowd did some booing he said no, no, no. don't say that he said if you don't want to take it you shouldn't be forced to take it no mandates. but take credit because we saved tens of millions of lives. he is saying essentially the bowlesers are i sag livening as well. carley: good for him. everybody should have the option to make up their own mind about this. about 74, 57% of americans are at least partially vaccinated. that's a high number. so, you know, the president is going to make this speech later today. he is going to be encouraging vaccinations and that's fine. that's what the president is going to do. if you look at the reality of the situation. if somebody isn't vaccinated right now, and they look at their two friends who between the three of them has had six shots against covid and they still got it because of omicron, realistically that person isn't going to get vaccinated. i think that the white house's response sure, you can encourage vaccinations and boosters. you also have to talk about this is what we were talking about yesterday, tour of look at this realistically. and push therapeutics. if you really truly want to save people's lives. recognizing that there is going to be a portion of the population that isn't going to get vaccinated. talk about cutting through the red tape to get the pfizer pill fda approved. steve: they are working on it. carley: shortage of that. brian: they never make it a priority. he never brings up natural immunity and that breeds distrust. the president's tone blistering people going to be a winter of death is not going to work. especially when we look atom chron and we are seeing zero deaths. one in dallas to a 50-year-old who is by the way 50-year-old with underlying conditions. here is dr. scott atlas who was vilified by dr. fauci and dismissed by many in the media. listen. >> as the pandemic evolves, the viruses mutate. the mutations allow the virus or the ones that keep being contagious are the ones that survive. they are less lethal. the pandemic is not about infections that are not harmful. >> tucker: right. >> the pandemic only matters if the diseases are very serious or cause death. if you don't have that, and you just have a lot of people getting a very mild infection, that shouldn't panic anyone. that's, nnkted, showing that there's either a very, very mild virus, which isn't a big problem or there's enough immunity and protection against the severe consequences. >> tucker: right. >> that we're good. so, that's how the pandemic ends. brian: why do those reasonable statements stand out? and she basically said yeah. that's exactly what's happening. brian: what's not clear is that president biden say it's okay to put out that massive letter basically calling joe manchin duplicitous and a liar. steve: he signed off on it. brian: she said we are not going to go over the conversation that led to it excuse me, we should just know if the president is behind those statements. carley: i don't even think it's just the letter though. joe manchin said they were so far apart on where they were with build back better, especially with the child tax credit like you mentioned that he said it wasn't going anywhere. although that lettering and putting his family in jeopardy no more. brian: i think it also is the fact that they were doing these numbers on one year instead of the 10 years. so they knew it was a joke. it is not close to 1.7. he probably wanted a legitimate, which is a scary number anyway 1.7. not the phony 1.7 as if all these programs are going go away in a year. here is senator joe manchin picked up a phone and called a local radio station. he let them know that the pressure he has gotten since he made that decision is coming from staffers. listen. >> i'm not blaming anybody. i knew where they were. i knew what they could and could not do. they just never realized because they figure surely to god we can move one person. surely we can badger and beat one person up. surely we can get enough protesters to make that person uncomfortable enough they will just say okay i will vote for anything, i will just quit. guess what i'm from west virginia not from where they are from and beat the living crap out of people and think they are submissive, period. steve: real animosity was between joe manchin and the staff. joe manchin has not named names. people have tried to connect the dots. we don't know exactly who it was. we do know one famous person who put out a tweet who obviously was very angry at joe manchin and that woulds bette midler she tweeted this what joe manchin who represents a population smaller than brooklyn. carley: bronx. steve: wants to move forward not backward like his state sold us out. he wants us all to be like his state west virginia. poor, illiterate and strung out. brian: hard to have a more condescending tone and more bitter statements put down an entire state because you disagree with a senator, the 72 years old, self-made success story former governor of a state? [laughter] >> they just say hi, santa. so cool. carley: look at the picture. >> hey, santa, it's santa daddy, it's santa mommy. steve: congratulations to you and your family. merry christmas. >> merry christmas to y'all and we love "fox & friends". carley: merry christmas. in just a few hours president biden will update the nation on omicron surge, former cdc director redfield joins us next from what he wants to hear from the white house. my daughter has type 2 diabetes and lately i've seen this change in her. once-weekly trulicity is proven to help lower a1c. it lowers blood sugar from the first dose. and you could lose up to ten pounds. trulicity is for type 2 diabetes. it isn't for people with type 1 diabetes. it's not approved for use in children. don't take trulicity if you're allergic to it, you or your family have medullary thyroid cancer, or have multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2. stop trulicity and call your doctor right away if you have an allergic reaction, a lump or swelling in your neck, severe stomach pain, changes in vision, or diabetic retinopathy. serious side effects may include pancreatitis. taking trulicity with sulfonylurea or insulin raises low blood sugar risk. side effects include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration and may worsen kidney problems. ask your doctor about once-weekly trulicity. brien: president biden will deliver stark warning to unvaccinated. what else is new, new actions to battle the covid surge and this new variant. former cdc director, current senior adviser at mlac. dr. redfield, great to see you. if you were writing the script of the president today, what are some of the bullet points that you would like to get across the american people. >> thanks, brian, thanks for having me. first and foremost to remind the american people that vaccines do work. the challenge with the vaccine is you have to maintain them. so obviously maintaining your vaccination state with additional injections is fundamental. second thing, i think, we really have to finally embrace the tool of what i call knowledge of infection and what that means is we need to have expanded testing. we need to be able to let people understand if they are the silent epidemic and pull themselves out of the transmission and pull everybody as if they are infected, why don't we focus on people that are infected with expanded testing. the president is going to talk about but i think really our nation probably needs over a billion tests a month just from a public health point of view. we still have a listening way to go. finally, i hope that they'll be a real aggressive push on public-private partnership to advance antiviral development to retool the antibody that is we lost with the omicron variant but to get the private sector to build upon what we have seen with merck and pfizer bringing antivirals to bear. let's bring more antivirals into the system. brian: right. doctor: lastly, let's move to culture of personal responsibility. i'm not a big advocate for mandates. i don't think mandates help. brian: terrible. doctor: when you tell people they have to do something that they may be reluctant, they'll be more reluctant. culture of personal responsibility for us to understand what mitigation steps we need to use for ourselves and the different environments we are in. those are four major points and i hope the president hits all of them. brian: you also want to expedite the pfizer antiviral which could be something that you take up. let me take this. for some reason there's no urgency to get this to market. doctor: yeah, brian, i think this is really important. i don't know where the pressure points are. i know i had an opportunity to be the cdc director during the beginning of this pandemic. i will tell you there was a great sense of urgency. i was part of the operation warp speed board to bring vaccines to the american public. there was a great sense of urgency. i don't see the same urgency in bringing the diagnostic tests to the american public that we need. we probably need over a billion tests a month. i don't see the urgency and i don't see the urgency in bringing antivirals to the marketplace and we need to really accelerate that sense of urgency. brian: dr. redfield, we should not be pretending, am i correct, that omicron is as lethal as the original pandemic or the delta variant, should we be looking at what we know right now and act accordingly, low-grade fever, runny noses, no deaths? doctor: brian, i think you're right. when the viruses evolve and i think -- i predicted it on fox news probably 4, 5 months ago, i said we will have another variant and more transmissible than delta and i anticipate it'll become less pathogenic. at that time what the virus is going to do. we will have another virus than omicron and this virus is different from the original strains in that it replicates more in the upper respiratory tract as opposed to lower lungs. it's causing much less disease. that said in vulnerable individuals, you know, it still has the capability of putting people in the hospital and has the capability of death but the real issue with this pathogen is that it's just so much more infection, so much more infectious. brian: right. we should treat it accordingly and not overreact to it and you would like to see more tests and you would like to see more therapeutics or antiviral. let's get some urgency there and you're a pro. dr. robert redfield, thank you so much. >> doctor: thanks, brian, have a great christmas. brian: thank you. tis the season to watch fox nation. abbey who i know will take us behind the scenes. somebody else i know bill hammer, i saw him typing away getting ready for his show because he tells me he does most of the work.
