>> it connects russia to germany and strengthens russia and weakens ukraine. a lot of people say when president biden lifted sanctions russia could continue to build the pipeline that really strengthened the country, the keystone pipeline, i think dana is right. the question is vladimir putin considering invading ukraine or using it as a bargaining chip, and if the country is admitted into nato the united states and western allies without to protect the country, i would be vladimir putin's worst nightmare. most people ukraine want to be a part of the western world, they want freedom, they are democratic nation. todd: summarizing dana's point tucker raised an interesting analysis point yesterday saying this is the equivalent of china getting control of both canada and mexico and having now i in canada and mexico. we would not be happy with that being the united states, the border by canada and mexico. that said, we are different than our opponents, it is incumbent upon us, i do not know if president biden did that during the call yesterday. carley: where do things stand? letter calling the da's comments the most ignorant and insulting comments i have ever heard spoken by an elected official. carley: the head of the union representing 1000 profiteers in los angeles county is blasting george gaskin of remaining silent as suspect walk free after committing brazen smash and grab burglaries. here to discuss, vice president of the association of los angeles deputy district attorney, eric saidall. we have video the looting taking place across the country, the police officers we've spoken to say they are making arrests but these criminals are out the very next day. wife that happening? >> our law enforcement has done a great job in terms of catching people. right now we have district attorney who has shown no leadership whatsoever in trying to prevent the crime surge that is sweeping los angeles for the past year. not only has he not done anything, he has encouraged criminals to act lawless by promoting an agenda that shows no accountability for committing crime in los angeles. on top of that, he also decided he would not pass or fail in any nonviolent nonserious crime. the smash and grabs fit into that category. jillian: and to further your point think of this tweet george gaskin posted march 19th of this year, he wrote that he eliminated 8127 years of unnecessary, expensive exposure to present time, stopped seeking the death penalty in 17 cases, withdrew 77 pending motions to transfer kids to adult ports, that save taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars during his first 100 days. you say he's proud of his soft on crime policies and it is not just him, it is our philosophy progressives across the country subscribe to where criminals are the victims because this country is racist and unfair according to them so they don't belong in jail. how do you fight back against that philosophy? >> the empirical data is showing itself was crime is on the rise in these areas that are governed by, you call them progressive das, i call them regressive das. they are bringing back the city to the 70s and 80s, they do not care about violent crime. if you look at the people george gaskin has put, it is a lot. some of these people are public offenders actively advocate the evolution of prisons and advocate the distribution of the criminal justice system was we should not be surprised at this point and points throughout the city's but west of our counties to the east of our counties, being devastated by these crimes. carley: we shouldn't be surprised crime is affecting a lot of people. look at these numbers in los angeles, homicide of 12%, shots fired almost 18% aggravated assault up 8%, robberies up 4%. george gaskin can't believe things are going well. any chance he will course correct? >> i don't think the man believes in anything. i think he's a politician and that is what is frightening about having a politician is the head of a prosecutorial agency. last year was all about woke, this year crime goes up and criminals at dinner parties so maybe he will course correct. i call on our members, pleading with him to change directives and focus on the job of prosecuting people instead of what he's been doing which is focusing resources on early release. he's a dedicated prosecutor out there, releasing dangerous criminals. >> second attempt to recall him, the first one didn't stick but people are trying again and we will see what happens on that front. thank you for joining us. we appreciate it. todd: 23 after the our. is instagram toxic for teens? the social media giant will be forced to answer tough questions in a senate hearing today was a preview with the former ceo of parlor and a presidential commission's report on the pros and cons of court packing. what they decide, we will tell you what is in it when they decide. carley: president biden controversial pick through in the office of the comptroller of currency is withdrawing her nomination, facing sharp criticism from republicans and democrats for suggesting the nationalization of banking and encouraging bankruptcy of the fossil fuel industry. her views were compared to communism during her confirmation process but she said her radical past statements were academic views. president biden's commission and supreme court packing says they have, quote, no position on whether to increase the number of justices on the court. the 34 member commission saying there were sharp differences of opinion over court packing and they unanimously voted no opinion on the matter to the president. progressives are calling for added seats to secure more liberal hotels republican appointed justices currently hold the majority. todd: a christmas movie, what and cut waste of resources that was. instagram is introducing new tools to make the apps safer for teens while cracking down on content, the announcement comes as the head of instagram faces a senate hearing unusually good today. joining us now, former interim ceo and president of convention of states was great to see you as always. is there something disingenuous about making these changes right before your call to the principal's office? >> it is cynical. they know these problems existed for a long time and doing damage especially to young people right before senate hearings, pretty obvious they are trying to do that. todd: looking at these new instagram features, take a break is one of them. it will alert users after prolonged viewing sessions of 20 minutes, that applies to everybody, not just teens but teams are the target, they have a lot of time to spend, allow parents to monitor usage and set time limits and parental education hub and controls launching in march. is that enough? >> i appreciate your giving parents control, parents washing what kids are watching to make sure everything is safe. something we should be worried about as conservatives, we've seen facebook use algorithms to key people from going down the rabbit hole, watching too much content that instrumental facebook says is objectionable and they are imposing this kind of content filter on instagram, can't be used for political purposes as well as purposes of protecting kids. todd: to follow up you believe this will be weaponized? >> i would just say facebook has done this in the past and facebook or meta-as the parent company of instagram, we have to watch this because these companies are generally politicized intends to use all tools ultimately for political purposes. todd: here's the underlying argument for why they need to do something. their stated focus is to focus on teens, teen girls, 32% of teen girls said when they felt bad about their bodies instagram made them feel worse. focusing on the child portion of this, not the political portion of it does that 32% number go down with these changes? >> i doubt it because kids will do what kids are going to do without supervision so the kids ignore the warnings that shut down after 20 minutes or pay attention to this stuff but use the apps for what they use the apps for. todd: you understand how the sausage is made in this tech world, what else should instagram be doing to help these teens? >> i'm relatively happy with the suite of services they put in place to help the teens. the real focus should not be on the social media companies though they should assist again parents watching this kind of stuff. ultimately it is on our society, parents working with teens to consult the stuff. todd: broadening this out for a moment, we've reported for the past four years that i have been here at fox on these hearings in front of senators, hearings in front of congress people, does anything change following these public displays? >> generally not. we don't see any government results that come out of the hearings but in this case the company is doing something, in response to pressure being put on them by these hearings so the government itself is not doing anything but the free market essentially, these people are acting in response to what the senate is doing. todd: always a treat having you on because i feel we get this insight from inside the tech world, inside silicon valley from a person our viewers can understand. we appreciate your time. >> 33 after the hour, president biden talking tough with vladimir putin, it looks more like he was talking to an old friend. who had the upper hand here? >> too early to tell if we have deterred russia from mounting an invasion of ukraine. russia still has 100,000 troops on the border, president biden threatened russia with economic measures, severe economic measures, possibly blocking russia's access to the swift international banking system, that would be enough to deter russia's invasion. ukraine independence, vladimir putin has demanded a guarantee that ukraine never join nato, where secretary-general of nato confirmed russia should have no such veto over ukraine's foreign-policy so that's the long-term question. the intelligence community will be mounting a full court press to collect intelligence on the reflections and russia specifically in the kremlin. with the president biden has succeeded or not in his efforts to deter russia's invasion. >> listening to lawmakers after this phone call was interesting because washington has never been more partisan but you have republicans and democrats, nothing should be off the table, even military intervention on the us friend but a lot of people at home are listening to this topic, listening to this all play out overseas between russia and ukraine, that doesn't affect my life, wake me up when he starts talking about gas prices, why should americans care about this. >> one thing we learned from the previous century when we fought two world wars against dictatorships, i fear rearing its ugly head today, dictatorships are on the march around the world with intensity unprecedented since the second world war. china, russia, iran, north korea among others. if we don't stand up for democracy like ukraine, then we don't stand up -- stand for much of anything at all. it doesn't mean we have to send us troops to fight the russians, but ukraine is a critical country for europe's security. russia should not be allowed to invade another country. and impose their will as they are seeking to do. todd: thank you. >> an impact on our nato members and in the baltics and poland. carley: i think one of the main reasons this is such an important topic is because if russia takes over ukraine it doesn't stop there, poland, lithuania could be next. the united states, we stand up for democracy and freedom. heather: question of what china takes. carley: thank you for your insight, we appreciate it. heather: democrats don't seem concerned with the lawlessness in their own cities but it is so bad in places like portland's where the cops said they may not be able to answer 9/11 calls, talking to portland business owner who was robbed 3 times in a month. carley: a california mom given a vaccine in exchange for pizza without her consent, more on that. hi. i'm wolfgang puck when i started my online store wolfgang puck home i knew there would be a lot of orders to fill and i wanted them to ship out fast that's why i chose shipstation shipstation helps manage orders reduce shipping costs and print out shipping labels it's my secret ingredient shipstation the number 1 choice of online sellers and wolfgang puck go to shipstation.com/tv and get 2 months free xfinity rewards are our way of thanking you just for being with us. and wolfgang puck enjoy rewards like sing family fun nights! rent sing for $1, then belt out all your favorite tunes from the movie with sing karaoke. plus, see sing 2 in theaters with buy-one-get-one free fandango tickets. join over a million members by signing up for free on the xfinity app. our thanks. your rewards. mom, hurry! our show's gonna start soon! i promised i wouldn't miss the show and mommy always keeps her promises. oh, no! seriously? carley: that is extra cost for businesses after the pandemic and when crime is up, so bad for everybody going through this like you and you have to wonder if police will come back to portland because it's not just the defund movement. a lot of police officers will be demoralized as well. do you see that changing?
