Griff. Griff im Griff Jenkins. The couple were apprehended in a Detroit Business just a mile from the canadian border. And the arraignment filled with raised voices as their attorneys crashed with prosecutors. And Steve Harrigan on the ground in oxford, michigan, hi, steve. That arraignment by Video Conference taking place a short time ago and really the prosecutor got exactly what she wanted, 500,000 in bond for each of them, and that has to be paid in full 100 . And the prosecutor said that these two are clearly a flight risk, only involve a manhunt with u. S. Marshals. And they withdrew 4,000. These two were pound in a room locked hiding, these are not people we can be assured will return to court on their own. The two parents face four charges each of Involuntary Manslaughter. The judge had to read out the charges for each of the four High School Students here that have been murdered and the mother sobbed audibly each time she had to say i understand, or not guilty. They pled not guilty to all four counts. The prosecutor laid out the role that she said that the parents played in this deadly rampage that the parents, the father initially bought the handgun for the 15yearold boy and the mother trained on the gun with him. And when he was caught looking for amunition, the mother texted dont get caught next time. Lol. There was a meeting with the son and administrators, and the teacher had found a drawing the student made in his desk, showing someone getting shot with a handgun at express the thoughts wont stop, help me written on that. After that meeting, the parents decided with the administrators to allow the 15yearold to return to class, a fateful decision. The shooting started two hours later. Back to you. Griff Steve Harrigan live for us on the ground in oxford, michigan. For more on the dramatic conclusion of the search, and why there may be more arrests on the horizon. Were joined by former fbi agent and retired nutley, new jersey, lieutenant, thank you for being here. It was a striking set of events over the last 24 hours, we know that its rare for parents to be charged in these situations when it comes to their child being accused of a School Shooting of a mass shooting, but even more, there was a manhunt here. Well, yes, with regard to the parents being charged, i dont know if that theres enough evidence to really convict them, but with regards to the manhunt, the d. A. Should have never ever publicized the charges before contacting local police. The procedure is you draw up the charges and the warrant and the local police go for the arrest. Thats a problem with the scenario. The other problem is letting the teenager back into the classroom. Look, there was enough evidence there that this child or this teenager was troubled, was possibly going to commit an act of violence. Theres enough to call the police and make sure that he couldnt return to the classroom. Getting back to the disconnect between the Sheriffs Department and the prosecutors office. The sheriff was actually on our air with Martha Mccallum yesterday when it was discovered and that the couple could the know be located. Take a listen. We didnt learn of the charges until we were called by the news media this morning. We would have liked to have maybe done some other things last night. Lieutenant, what does that say to you about the disconnect, number one, that is happening here and could that impact the case Going Forward . It could. Look, that sheriff has done an outstanding job with his police force up until that point. He was blindsided. This is why in Law Enforcement we like to be transparent and get right to the microphone after we have all the facts without compromising the investigation or hindering apprehension. So, that d. A. Jumped the gun, no pun intended and blindsided that officer, that police chief. Now, how will it impact the case . Well, it remains to be seen, but its certainly not going to help the case with regard to prosecution. And you brought up the fact that the suspect was allowed to go back to class after this conference with his parents, as well as administrators in the building. This is what the prosecutor did have to say about that decision. I dont have ill feelings or negative feelings about anyone, and i but of course he should have, he should not have been allowed to go to that class and i believe that that is a universal position. From a Law Enforcement perspective, thats pretty striking, and his backpack wasnt searched, no one asked him about it. Inexcusable. What are the protocols, what are the procedures . In my 38 years of Law Enforcement ive seen nothing like this. If we had a child in a school that was troubled and had a backpack, we not only search the backpack, we search the locker, we call the parents and people call the police and get other people involved. Never ever send an individual back to the classroom especially when you have indicators, and they did through drawings and texts, et cetera, theres a potential act of Serious Violence being taken. Unfortunately, this is what happened. And we know from the Detroit Police chief that when the parents were captured in this commercial building, that there was Somebody Else who had let them in and the chief indicated that that person could be charged as well. What do you think about that . Yes, they could, because there was a bolo out on the individuals. What the police are going to be looking for, perhaps through their, the suspects computers, telephones, et cetera, if they were in touch with anyone, if anyone helped to facilitate what now seems to be he is skate. The chief is right, there could be more in the apprehension of these individuals. And their attorney said they intended to attend the arraignment. There was a communication mixup, but, however, we know from reporting that they took out 4,000 and there they were a mile from the canadian border. And ive been through them, im going to turn myself in. All they had to do is pick up a phone, or go to the police department. I believe that they were headed to canada. Do you think there will be additional charges based on that alone . Its up to the prosecutor to look at the totality of circumstances and additional charges. There possibly can be attentional charges as a result of their failure to report. Lieutenant steve rogers, thank you for your time today, happy saturday. Thank you. Griff. Griff alicia, u. S. Intelligence warning russian president Vladimir Putin may be laying the groundwork for a possible invasion of ukraine as soon as early next year. Madeline rivera joins us with the latest intelligence estimates. What he is whats going on, maddie . Theyre looking to avoid a crisis through diplomacy and deescalation, but a u. S. Intelligence reports a russian buildup along the border, 100,000 troops are already stationed with Potential Offensive as soon as early next year involving as many as 175,000 troops with armor, artillery, and equipment. During a meeting with Russian Foreign minister survey lavrov in stockholm earlier this week, Secretary Of State Antony Blinken warned of consequences, including sanctions if russia takes further action. What we cant have is one country changing the borders of another country by force, a democracy, and allow that to stand with impunity. Russian president Vladimir Putin meanwhile points to u. S. Military equipment and activity getting closer to russian borders and demanding the president guarantee that ukraine wont be allowed to join the n. A. T. O. Alliance. White house secretary jen psaki brushing that aside on friday. N. A. T. O. Countries decide who is a member of n. A. T. O. Not russia and thats how the process has always been and how it will proceed. I think its important to remember where the provocative action is coming from throughout this time, its not the United States or ukraine. President biden and president putin are expected to hold a video call to talk about ukraine and other issues. Thank you very much. And in the next hour, we will seek a fox news chief political anchor bret baier live from simi valley, california, he has an interview with secretary of defense lloyd austin at the Reagan National defense for recommend later today at 3 p. M. Youll see it here live. Theres a lot to learn as u. S. Intelligence warns these signs that russia may be preparing to invade ukraine early next year. At least 12 states have confirmed cases of the Omicron Variant and Health Officials are working to determine the effectiveness of the vaccine against the new strain. Jonathan serrie. Hi there, in addition to 12 states, Contact Tracing is also going on here in georgia. There was a Georgia Resident who recently returned from travel to south africa and stayed here two days and then went on to new jersey. They tested her there, and she tested positive for the Omicron Variant and she was treated and went into isolation as precaution. So far the handful of cases in the u. S. And larger case ins south africa have been relatively mild. A south african study with peer review saying that having a covid infect, whether omicron is able to evade vaccine immunity. However, federal Health Officials strong sli recommend full vaccination plus a booster shot as the best way to lower the risk. The more mutations you have in a variant, the more immunity you need in order to tackle those mutations, so if we have a high level of immunity, vaccination and boosting, then we believe that that will lead to less severe outcomes should you become infected with omicron. On monday, new rules go into effect. International Air Travelers arriving in the u. S. , obtain a negative covid test before the day of departure, regardless of citizenship. And barring entry from eight nations in southern after can where theres high circulation of the Omicron Variant. This does not apply to other countries where the variant has been detected. Alicia. Jonathan serrie reporting from atlanta, thanks, jonathan. Griff alicia, weak november job numbers sent stocks into a slump friday. Were live to the white house with the president s reaction next. The president is spending his weekend at camp david after glossing over a sluggish november jobs report amid growing fears of the Omicron Variant and questions about his own health. Alex is live at the white house. Good afternoon, the president is nursing that disappointing jobs report and a cold. It was evident in his voice as he attempted to shine light on the positives of the report. Take a listen. We own the leading economy of the world for Household Income and the economy as a whole are stronger than before the pandemic. Applications for new Small Businesses are up 30 compared to before the pandemic. He had a big takeaway is that last month employers added just 210,000 jobs falling far below expectations. And those were before the Omicron Variant and rattling recovery. What you have is an economy that wants to move ahead there are artificial barriers there. We know the huge Supply Chain Problems and those are underestimated when you shut down a global economy, not helping that in the future. In terms of the economy the administration is still waging war. Now, President Biden has said from now, lockdowns are off the table. When it comes to his health, President Biden chalked up his feeling unwell, a cold caught from his grandson. And as far as the president feeling sick, jen psaki said this. I can assure you the president follows every protocol. He wants to keep everyone safe in the white house and thats why, obviously, we consult with a doctor and we put out that information to make it available to all of you. White house physician Kevin Oconnor says that the president is consistently tested for covid19 and indeed has a cold. Hes expect today return back here to washington tomorrow afternoon. Alicia and griff. Alicia Alexandria Huff at the white house. Griff the president signed a stop gap bill to prevent a Government Shutdown until mid february. Republicans are criticizing the Solutions Coming out of the white house. Joining us now Richard Hutchens from the 8th district, secretary of the republican conference as well. Congressman, thank you for taking time. I want to get into inflation and maybe what republicans see as a solution, but first, your reaction to this jobs report, falling well short of expectations. Great To Be With You today, griff. You know, the vicepresident came to charlotte this week and got behind the wheel of an electric bus and pretended to drive it and sang the childrens song, the wheels of the bus are going round and round. Ive got a message for the vicepresident , the wheels of the the wheels are coming off the bus. And 4. 2 , a sign that the economy overall is doing better, your reaction . Well, the economy is struggling because of the policies of the Biden Administration. I mean, you look at inflation at a 30year high. Gas at a sevenyear high. What really troubles me is were expecting utility costs, heating your home this winter, to be up 54 . People are really hurting and im worried about whats going to happen this winter, but these are all results of biden policies that are driving up inflation because of Out Of Control spending. You look at the problems with supply chain. Theyre all being caused by biden policies whether its keeping people out of the work force, whether its, you know, going soft on china, so that they have a green light to take advantage of us. The inflation coming from the Green New Deal policies that theyre passing and the impact of inflation on supply chain is, you get panic buying and putting more pressure on it. These are caused by bidens policy. Griff lets talk about inflation. This past week, Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell saying its time to stop calling this inflation transitory, its here to stay and gallup saying that 45 of americans are struggle in some hardship. Yet the Administration Says the solution is for the senate to pass a massive spending build back better bill. What do the republicans say is the solution . Theres a fire and the Biden Administration shows up, and the solution is 4 trillion of borrowing and spending and its only going to make the problem worse, but you look at the build back broke bill, not only is it too much money, but its going to have amnesty included in it, you know, Green New Deal policies, its going to raise taxes on every single american, its going to make it more expensive to heat your home this winter. This is an awful bill that we cant afford. Griff congressman, should, in the midterms next november, republicans take over, what does the republican conference see as a way to not criticize this administrations handling of it, but put in place some policies that could perhaps right the ship as far as inflation is concerned . Look, republicans would love to work with this president , we have a lot of really good ideas and in fact, all you have to do is look back through a few months before this president took office, and at the policies that were working. I mean, under president trump, with the republicans leading in congress, we finally achieved energy independence. We had the lowest fuel prices weve ever seen because we were able to go get american sources of economy. You looked at an economy cooking because of sound tax pile. The tax policy of this administration is give the rich a break and raise everybody elses taxes. You know, we have a lot of good ideas and you know, were ready to work with this president if hes willing to listen. Griff looking forward in just the last 30 seconds weve got the debt ceiling weve got a deadline coming up on the 15th. The treasury says if we dont raise the debt ceiling, it could be catastrophic. Im confused i dont know request why we have to raise it because the president says the bill is not going to cost anything. If it means that weve got to raise the debt ceiling, let them do it themselves. Griff congressman richard hudson, thank you for taking time on a saturday. We look forward to having you back on as we look at the woes americans are feeling from the gas station to the grocery store. Alicia lets turn to the democratic perspective on inflation, spending and the economy. Joining us now is democratic missouri congressman cleaver, and House Financial Services committee. Thank you for being here, im not sure how much you heard from your colleague from the other side of the aisle, but in response to a question by Griff Jenkins regarding the disappointing job numbers, Congressman Hudson said its bat news for the bad news for the economy and the wheels are coming off the bus. Well, the wheels are not coming off the bus, i think its important for us to keep in mind that last months jobs numbers exceeded what we expected and yet, there is some disappointment this month. However, its also important, i think, for americans to keep in mind that unemployment is at 4. 2 and we reached that level three years before the cbo projections that would suggest that the economy is not in the tank, that things are not falling apart, and in fact, gas prices are falling. We are able to see, also, that the congestion is being dealt with and were having a little more room in the supply chain and the Consumer Spending is also surprisingly high. So the American Public, i think, realizes that there is that there is a problem, but it has not, you know, were not standing on the edge of a depression, were actually functioning fairly well. Alicia but congressman, we do know that even though consumers are spending, there are Many Americans out there who are having such a hard time with inflations and projections are this is going into well into next year. This is a gallup poll and this is a question posed to people making less than 40,000, has the recent Price Increases caused you hardship . 71 said yes, 29 said no. So those with lower income, things are still looking pretty dire. I agree. But let me just add this, if i might. That i think if gallup took at that poll, if it had taken that poll when inflation was considered to be down, those numbers would not be dramatically different and the reason is if youre low income, if youre poor, if youre living off 15 an hour or less, 15,000 a year or less, which is minimum wage 7. 25 youre never going to think that things are better unless your own personal life is better and ive been in that situation so i know how, you know, youre just angry and i also think theres a Lingering Covid anxiety over the American Public and that causes people to react negatively. I know people all around me who are, you know, things are bad because the covid virus is still killing a lot of people here in missouri. Alicia but if youre talking about of Lingering Covid issue here that has people concerned, we also now have the new omicron, which is every hour we hear about more states. I guess i dont understand how you can blame covid on part of it and just saying, you know, were going to get better when we know were trying to figure out how were going to deal with this latest variant. Well, yeah, weve got to deal with i think were having more vaccines now than weve had in months. Normally, wed be going the other direction, but now, i think, if theres anything positive in the Omicron Variant, it is that it has created a level of fear that in the long run is going to be good for the economy and good for the health of americans because i think the unvaccinated are causing much of the problem in the country right now, but they are going now and getting their vaccine. I was pleased yesterday to get that information in my office in washington and excited about the possibility that we might, we might start eliminating it. The economy needs to be better and individuals coming on and saying everything is great and you guys are ignorant. No, the economy can be better, and i think that the president understands that and hes working on it and i do think that build back better which doesnt have anything in there about the Green New Deal, incidentally, im not a Green New Dealer, so thats not in there. I dont know where that came from. But those kinds of things, and things i keep hearing people say are in the bbb are just not there. Alicia congressman emanuel cleaver, we appreciate your time today, thank you. Tomorrow, Chris Wallace will sit down with Surgeon General dr. Murphy to discuss the Omicron Variants rapid spread in the u. S. On fox news sunday. Griff alicia, our legal panel breaks down the Involuntary Manslaughter charges against the michigan shooters parents next. Just two pills for all day pain relief. Aleve it, and see whats possible. And also try alevex topical pain relief. Earlier today, the parent of a michigan School Shooting suspect pleading not guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter charges in connection with their sons shooting rampage. Detective steve rogers says he doubts that they will stick. With regard with the parents, i dont know if theres enough evidence to convict them. Local Police Arrested the couple after an intense hours long search that ended in a detroit commercial building. Their son faces multiple charges after he was accused of killing four and injuries several others in an attack earlier this week. Griff for more on the charges filed against the michigan shooter suspect and his parents. Lets bring in the assistant u. S. Attorney, and thank you for taking time. And we have the Defense Attorney and the prosecutor. Andy, ill start with you, has the prosecutor brought these charges against the parents, while no doubt, theres a lot of passion in the heat of the moment as a dramatic friday ensued. We heard from the parents attorney just a little while ago, very passionate Arraignment Hearing which isnt at that level with voices raised, but here is a little bit of what we heard from the defense, listen. We were going to make arrangements to have our clients turn themselves in. The prosecutors office, instead of getting back to us in any way, decided to have a Press Conference and as ms. Mcdonald admitted, tried to find a way to surprise our clients and catch them off guard when it was so unnecessary. Theyre already fighting, andy, in the Arraignment Hearing. What is your reaction . Well, fighting is what they do. So that isnt all that surprising. Griff, i think it was a mistake for the parents to put it mildly, to act like they were guilty and to take off the way they did. I know those lawyers are now saying that, you know, its all a big misunderstanding. The circumstances under which they were caught do not speak of, you know, people who were looking to surrender. And i think they have a very strong legal case against these charges, again, they either got poor legal visor more likely they got good legal advice and ignored it. I dont think they should have acted like they were on the run. And were these parents overcharged . Will the charges stick . We as human beings have every right to be infuriated with what little we know about these parents. Theyre not going to get nominated for parents of the year, but this is a very creative charging decision because it is not usual to have parents criminally responsible for the act of their children, and what the prosecution is trying to do here, and i get why shes doing it, shes trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. The parents were nowhere near what happened here, the gun wasnt in their hands and in order for an Involuntary Manslaughter charge to stick, the parents in michigan, theyd have to creative the situation that was likely to cause death and know that death was likely. Thats from the redundancy department, but its not a Straight Line to get from where they are now to a conviction. Griff yeah, andy, i want you to address that as well. Yeah, well, i think that that i not only agree with all of this, i think one of their strongest arguments, and this is more probably a legal argument than an argument for the jury, but an argument to the court its been proposed in michigan a number of times, including this summer, that the Legislature Pass a law that made what happened illegal, a cap law or child prevention to firearms. So the state of michigan considered criminallizing what we see here and elected know the to do it. You can argue its a good decision or bad decision, its not a decision. They didnt enact this law. It seems to me and i quite agree, what the prosecutor is trying to do here in a time when emotions are very raw, is creatively come up with a charge because the legislature hasnt come up with a charge, and thats exactly what prosecutors are not supposed to do. Theyre supposed to carry out the laws that the legislature enacts. Not, you know, fill the gaps theyve received. Griff its a fascinating case and worth pointing out for all who are parents, these parents were, if they were trying to flee to canada, abandoning their arrested child, meanwhile, in the last 40 seconds or so weve got left. A reaction to the charges brought against this young man, at the being overcharged . Terrorism . Capital murder . No, not in the least. This kid mowed down four other students, in school. The parents had him in their grips hours before it happened. No, they have not overcharged this kid. Obviously hes mentally not a stable child. Stable children do not kill other children in school. Those charges will stick. The ones against the parents though, different story. At least right now. Griff andy, your thoughts . Not a terrorism case, i agree on the murder charges. But the fact that he may have, you know, mental incapacity issues, which will complicate the murder charges, would make the Terrorism Charge even more difficult to stick and thats if the statute that has to be applied actually applied to this situation, which i dont think it does. Griff well, its tragic and heartbreaking, in case, and guys, stick tight. Well hear more from our panel next, were going to look at the legal fallout after alec baldwins emotional tv interview what happened the day he fatally shot a crew member on the set of his new movie. Four weeks ago, nobody knew how in the world this real weapon was loaded on the set. And today he didnt pull the trigger. Actor John Schneider there and we heard from alec baldwin in his first interview since the death of halyna hutchins. And jonathan, can we just go over what the legal fallout here is of going on with George Stephanopoulos in telling his side of the story . Well, first, i have two words for alec baldwin and they are, stop talking. Now, im not saying that because i think hes in danger of being criminally prosecuted for this, all along it seems like this is a tragic accident. However, hes Not Out Of The Woods in terms of civil liability. Clearly what hes doing is trying to create new and improved version of events probably for the purpose of limiting that civil liability and frankly, alicia, it aint working. I think that was a horrible interview, for many reasons, not the least of which when he said he had no guilt over what happened. Maybe guilt is not the right word, but he took a life. He might not be legally responsible for doing it, but he did it and i think thats a cold, callus thing to say among other things. Alicia andy, other observations, he seemed to be heavily coached, probably from an attorney, and from a prosecutorial Point Of View when deciding where the charges will fall, how does this impact things . Well, you know, i guess i come at this with the idea that, like not everything is subject matter for the criminal law. I dont think this was intentional. The question would be, was it so profoundly reckless that the criminal law should intrude here . I think this is the kind of a situation where the civil litigation which jonah just referred to, its really the way to go with this, it shouldnt be a criminal law thing. But as far as his performance is concerned, you know, back when i used to have more hair to be able to pull out, it would have been if i was his lawyer, thats what id have been doing, so, maybe his lawyer did coach him, but maybe, you know, this would have been one of those ones, dont put me in, coach. Alicia okay, i want to move on to another case, the Jussie Smollett case and what he told Robin Roberts. Theres no doubt in your mind what motivated this attack . I can only go off of their words, i mean, who says bleep empire bleep , this maga country bleep . Ties a noose around your neck and pours bleach on you. The prosecution spent the week poking holes into his story. The defense is next. Is he taking the stand . Oh, boy, i dont know. He might have to only because, look, the Prosecution Put On A Great Case and the only way that Jussie Smollett is not going to be found guilty if the jury completely disbelieves their star witnesses, and i doubt thats going to happen, or if one or more of the juries either feels such sympathy for this guy they dont want to come to a decision it could lead to mistrial. But does he take the stand . Its going to be one heck of a acting job just like his interview with Robin Roberts is probably his best performance yet. And i am going back what we saw in the prosecution, a lot of evidence there. Andy, i think one of the lawyers the lawyers will have to be wearing heavily, usually with sentencing guidelines, if a judge finds that a defendant who has been convicted didnt give truthful testimony during the trial, that can raise the sentence. So if they think theres a high probability that hes going to be convicted, and they already have lots of ammunition to cross examine him with, even if his story wasnt implausible on his face, i think id be pleading with him as a lawyer, the best part of valor to stay off the stand. Alicia thank you so much for being here today and talking it out. Have a good one. Griff. Hi, lauren. Griff, you know the man suspected of killing that person and injuring one other, the random stabening new york is now in police custody. He allegedly went on a Stabbing Spree in upper manhunt. The first victim, Columbia University grad student, stabbed in the abdomen and later died from his wounds. 15 minutes later, a 27yearold italian tourist who just arrived in the city a day earlier was stabbed in the torso, he was taken to the hospital, hes in stable condition. Not long after that, a third man said hed been threatened by a man wielding a knife. We got a big day ahead, i just dropped out there but sitting down for the Defense Secretary gives the opportunity, doesnt do that many interviews actually. Hes going to be dealing with a host of issues, prepared remarks first we are told will be focused on china and perhaps a different tone about china than he has had in the administration has had and we will watch for that but then i will followup for about 20 minutes at the Reagan Defense forum on fox news channel. Breaking news his efforts by russia and what you heard, 100,000 troops on the eastern ukrainian border. What does the u. S. Do if putin has u. S. Intels to suggest does moving in early 2022. Brett, our folks talking about how significant the russia news is, perhaps to china for instance, what is china going to do . Go to taiwan if putin is nonstop from going into ukraine . Are these conversations you are hearing out there . A lot of them and a lot of people are tied to the Defense Industry or congressman tied to the administration, real concerns about what russia and china are doing. The link between the two and relationship between the two, youre right. U. S. Military faces a lot of things but if russia moves into ukraine, if china moves into taiwan, what does that look like . What is the u. S. Response . Is a complex answers for this administration and ones opposed to the Defense Secretary in one way or another. Griff bret, ive got to believe people are talking and contrasting perhaps the different approach President Biden is taking with president Ronald Reagan last night. A special report, a sound by a President Reagan in 1983 to speak to evangelicals. I want to play that again for our viewers today and get your reaction. Here is President Reagan in 1983. Your discussions of the nuclear proposals, i urge you to beware the temptation of pride and temptation of bribery, declaring yourselves above it all and label both sides equally, to ignore the facts of history and aggressive evil empire, to simply because the Arm Race A Giant Army and thereby remove yourself between right and wrong and good and evil. Griff bret, as you listened to former President Reagan and compare it to President Biden today, what are your thoughts . When we come to this form every year and we happen for a number of years, thats in the background. What Ronald Reagan as president said, did with the soviets back then and around the world, it was stark. It was black and white. Now theres a lot of nuance talking about russia and china and there are some people here who want him to be more like reagan obviously but theres another side of the country, there is a concern about getting the u. S. Involved in another Armed Conflict or several at the same time. In the u. S. Military handle that . Those are all things being discussed here in the form in various panels throughout the day. Griff we also i assume will hear from terry austin about iran and their demands over a renewed agreement. It seems like that is falling apart and the State Department is saying or at least projecting its not going well and a new nuclear deal. I think theres a lot of things to focus on, a lot of hotspots. Then you have the issues internally about mandates for vaccines and national cards, the fight with oklahoma and what florida is doing. A lot of topics we will get to hear what the Defense Secretary. I just hope we have enough time. Griff i hope they give you a lot of time with the secretary. To preview what is coming here in about two hours, what you hope most to get out of and being here, hearing from him . Reporter i think its blunt questions, answers and hopefully the administration can provide on these issues and provide context about what we are looking about. Again, he doesnt do that in the interviews, the Defense Secretary is a unique thing. Hopefully we will be able to cover a bunch of topics but the most pressing one we will meet with first. Griff bret barrick taking time for us, thank you. We will be tuned in, stay tuned because will have a lot more to say and talk about with lloyd austin coming up 3 00 p. M. Alicia thousand President Biden revealing his plan to fight back against the omicron and delta variant. As cases continue to spread across the country, medical experts are insisting theres no reason to panic. Early data suggests symptoms are milder than delta. Here to react, director for the independent form and democratic strategist legal analyst, kelly. Hello to both of you. Thank you for being here. Patrice, i will begin with you on your response to the Bidens Administration response. Hello. I think this is a bit of an overreaction, its still very early. We cannot know a whole lot about omicron and i think the Biden Administration, President Biden wants to look like hes being aggressive handling the coronavirus and the new strain as much as possible, as early as possible. At the same time, not much is being done at the border where we do understand individuals not vaccinated, we dont have any idea about their Health Status coming in. If you want to really be strong, lets start at the southern border and allow the science to lead what federal actions need to be taken from their own. Alicia on two different points there, i want to begin first, theres an overreaction here especially when you consider we dont have all the data. Your response . I think its important to follow the science and what the cdc says. We have to remember cdc came out and said people are unvaccinated have ten more times likely to be in a hospital because of covid and 11 times more likely to die because of covid. We have 60 million americans not vaccinated so its important to go with the science and talk to your doctor and get vaccinated and get your booster because that has shown to help with covid. Alicia with regard to the travel restrictions, the travel ban and plummeted by the Biden Administration, thats for people coming over here on a Plane Crossing our border on a plane but what about the southern border and concerns there as we do know doctor fauci said this is a different situation but is it . Kelly, that is to you. As i said before, i think it is. To get everyone vaccinated. From my understanding, people are getting vaccinated at the southern border, i havent been to the southern border but that is my understanding so its important for 60 million americans to get vaccinated and thats the way we are going to reduce the virus, thats important for all of us. We are all in this together and we have to member that. Thats why people wear masks, protect other people and get vaccinated. I know there are exceptions and its a personal choice but its important to follow the science. Alicia i want to switch gears here and patrice, i would love to get your response however, i also want your response to this because this week, the school board for the first time in five months allowed parents and the public into their meetings. Here is a sample. Less is not right, everyone is set up with lies and gas fighting. We the people are back. The election you claim as our motivation is over and we are still here. Its time for accountability. We put aside our differences of opinions to yield and rally around this one imperative, you may not harm our children. Alicia patrice, they are not helpful to students and not moving us forward from a racial standpoint or any other standpoint. What has been great is to seek parents finally recognizing indoctrinations occurring in the i guess passed down to our children from the k12 level, it is unacceptable. We can teach about race and slavery and how far we have come in this country but do so without trying to diminish or demean one race over another. We can also have material showing different perspectives and different experience us but not have material that are pedophilia in our schools and thats what we are seeing in that county. Parents are grassroots energized coming together, speaking up and fighting back. Alicia kelly, its not just loudoun county, the november election, 7076 project focused on electing gop candidates to school ports, they were successful in a number of states including pennsylvania and colorado. Its a message parents are sending to School Boards, it is time to listen to them instead of politics. We should always listen to the parent and also the teachers. We have to remember the head of the Teachers Union came out and said Critical Race Theory is not taught in kindergarten through the 12th grade. Its key to remember that and its not taught in the schools as well. I took that theory Critical Race Theory in moscow, is a theological Law Perspective to look at the law, a race based perspective and its more than a critical race Thought Process and how it affects different races. Alicia what i heard from the parent there is even though they are expressing their voice, they are still not being heard. Yet because a lot of these School Boards are instituting tactics used to solid parents, cutting the mic by accident or sending people to follow them in the federal government, lets not forget the Justice Department has been invested to track and even trace or surveilled entry parents as terrorists. This is not right. Its intended to kill free speech of parents but moms and dads care about their kids education. By the way, the idea Critical Race Theory in that name is not being taught, thats just semantics because the tenants are filtered into the Schools Curriculum and lots of different ways and its the tenants, the idea that because someone is white, they are an oppressor and they are black, they are oppressed. Thats wrong and we should not perpetrate that information to our kids. Alicia kelly, i am out of time. But i appreciate you both being here today. Have a good one. Thank you, be safe. Be healthy and god bless you want alicia, President Terms remain in mexico policy for migrants about to get a new life. The Biden Administration put it back in place. We are live at the border next. Alicia james and jennifer were arrested Last Night In A Detroit Building less than a mile from the border. Hours after they were first charged, their lawyers denied they were running away from Law Enforcement. You are looking at live images from our southern border. The Biden Administration is bringing back controversial remain in mexico policy and expects to start returning migrants to mexico as early as monday but some border Officials Say it wont help slow the border flow of migrants. Hi, casey. What to see you. More about in a second but first to the latest from the ground. You want to talk about a busy night in this spot for Border Patrol agents and other Law Enforcement officials out here at advanta as well into the Early Morning hours. A group of about 2150 people apprehended in this spot, mostly from the northern triangle countries and we also saw medically trained agents had to work or render aid to a little boy who was sick or injured, are drone captured the images from the bed of a pickup truck. You can see them working on him there. Sources tell us is not slowing anytime soon and its despite court order that mandates the white house. To reinstate the remain in mexico policy so migrants have to wait outside the u. S. While their Asylum Claims are processed. All fits as the issue has no doubt become political meet. For them next midterm and general elections as its an issue by the way, that usually bodes well for republicans. Listen. It is better for republicans particularly in texas to show concern with the border. Democrat always have difficulty about what to say against the charge democrats were open border. Democrats are for a Border Regime that welcomes refugees. However, those directly impacted by all of this they they are tired of it played like a political football and they want solutions instead of campaign promises. Texas governor greg out it told me earlier this week he is not sure that there is political will in washington to fix it. He says at least with this client administration. Alicia. Alicia good to see you, casey. Thanks. Griff for more details on the crisis at the southern border, lets turn to former Acting Domestic Secretary under president top, center for Home Security and immigration chairman, chad wolf. Jack, thank you for taking time on a saturday, i can tell you he called it an active night. It not only active, its even more active than last year in the last 24 hours. There are 1414 illegal crossings just buyer alone, 161 , you can see live drone flying over la jolla. My question to you, will reinstating remain in mexico help thats under control box. It will certainly help but it wont help overnight. Sustained program to continue to implement month after month after month and what we know and see, they dont believe in the program, they only do it because the Court Ordered them to implement this and as soon as i get relief, they are going to end the program so theres a Messaging Problem here. Its not only the policy but the message sense and if you are telling migrants in the cartel we dont believe in this program and we will and as soon as we get the chance to, its not going to have the effect at the end of the day so i think they have real challenges and Re Implementing The Micro Protection Protocols and they have changed a number of the Programs Teachers and we will have to see if that will get to its full potential and if they become loopholes in the program so there is a lot to examine and see how they do implement think the program over the next several months. Griff you are very correct in the changes, the devil is in the details. Let me show you a quick nap, several ports of entries, two are in california, then in texas, el paso, eagle pass but we are not talking about how much impact it has on the mexican side, northern mexico citys. Its going to overflow already overcrowded there. Certainly in the beginning, the Biden Administration, this is what Border Enforcement Looks like for the past ten or 11 months. Going through all of these areas to restart it. Going back to the Trump Administration and negotiated, at the end of the day, if its a sustained program, they saw illegal aggression through mexico was reduced and that helped not only their infrastructure and facility and the services they surrendered, over the longterm, which is why they agreed to resume the program at the end of the day, ive got concerns when they talk about the new procedures of npp, they are going to ask each enrollee whether they are returning to mexico. Guess what, youre going to seek a higher number of people say yes and as soon as they say yes i have a fear of returning to mexico, they are not enrolled in npp so these changes they are making, make or break the pros and program at the end of the fact. Griff i want to talk about the concerns at the border, the spread of the new covid variant, omicron earlier this week about doctor fact he was asked about testing at the border and here is what he said. What about take the plane in the Border Crossers coming in in huge numbers. For somebody getting on a plane and getting checked, we dont have that there but we can get some degree of mitigation. To test these people somewhere else there is testing at the border. Been to the border numerous times and have not seen what he is speaking of. Theres little to no testing at the border. Dh s secretary saint we have a policy but that is different on whether they are in for my think the policy and refuses to say whether they are implement think the policy side been around doctor fauci and the Trump Administration numerous times, he simply doesnt want to deal with the politics trying to test the individuals along the southwest border and it very important because when we have restrictions the Biden Ministration has imposed restrictions coming in illegally from overseas but if you come across the border in those same countries in africa and other places, illegally across the southwest border, you dont get tested have a Vaccine Mandate were quarantined mandate, i think there policy is out of touch with the American People and the American People see the hypocrisy. Griff or, thank you, chad for taking the time. Alicia more states reporting cases of the omicron covid. When im thinking about his control. Namely a level of control that is well well better than where we are right now because yesterday we had 95000 new cases the hospitalizations still creeping up. The deaths are saying about level weve got to get that level much, much lower. Alicia new covid cases topping 160,000 according to a tally by the Johns Hopkins university and so much is still unknown about the omicron. Joining us now, doctor amos, an Infectious Disease doctor at the Johns Hopkins. Thank you for joining us im going to put up for our viewers a map because the numbers can change, this is the latest numbers, the state that now have confirmed cases of the omicron. The number is expected to grow in the places as well. Early information we have, what can you tell americans about how they should stick with the information and the new variant . Americans should not be surprised they are going to see Omicron Ferry Cases erupt in every one of these states in the country including their own state, this is a more transmissible variant is going to do it showing the folly of these, its not something that would be preventable but what americans should remember is the vaccine is still the best way to prevent the omicron from disrupting your life because the vaccine even if the variant can get around, some of the protection and thats what we are seeing in south africa and will still protect against serious illness, hospitalization and death. The way to prepare is the same for delta, commonsense Risk Calculation we are trying to get people to do. Alicia you say the folly of the travel ban, it was decided by the president based on his advisors said including doctor fauci, can you explain why you call this a Folly Decision . Travel bands are not something ive ever supported and didnt during the Prior Administration and not during this administration because when you talk about officially spreading respiratory virus, its going to be everywhere by the time you discover it and its already shown to be the case, this is spreading in countries like the netherlands even before in south africa and what the travel ban does is a false sense of security and lets politicians do something but in the end it punishes countries that are diligent and reporting and alerting the world to the variant while excluding other countries without any Major Regions and the travel ban is leaky. Now we know this is everywhere and we are going to expect to see it in different places, Community Spread in the netherlands and new york state, it doesnt justify the Travel Ban Being in place so we have to use the tools we have if not blunt tools as if it january or february or March Of 2020 when we didnt know anything about the virus. Alicia we are all much more informed then we were year or two ago. Another question i have, as you know, the United States has dramatically higher Vaccination Rate than that of south africa. Does that play into any of this, doesnt give us any comfort . I do think it should give us comfort because vaccines are not all or nothing. Even if we seek breakthrough infections more common with the variant, youre still likely going to be protecting against serious hospitalization and death. 60 of the u. S. Population will be vaccinated gives us a bit of a buffer but they may not have it in south africa but even there, we are seeing Hospital Data is reassuring people getting hospitalized of serious illness are not vaccinated so there is some encouraging signs, it is early though. We want to make sure we have a full capture of the data and understand whats going on but i do think it will be difficult to extrapolate whats going on to a moderate vaccination country or like countries in europe. Alicia do you think there will ever be a time when we are not talking about covid . Covid is not going anywhere, its going to become a respiratory infection and will be with us forever just like other coronavirus and other common cold causing viruses, just like influenza. I think it will become less of a Disruptive Force as we tame it and remove its ability by giving, getting more people immune and rapid tests, the whole toolbox. Covid becomes less disruptive and thats where we are heading, we just more need more people to discover these tools and use them. Alicia thank you for your time today. Griff erupt says iran hardline government making it nearly impossible for the nuclear deal. Details next. Local reports and iran in a region where many of the countries and facilities are located. Secretary blinken thank iran is still not willing to meet the terms of the original 2015 nuclear deal which is why the talks have pompous time. State department artful compromise previously offered, those continuing to accelerate the Nuclear Program, these are the talks when the government came into power, it taken five months for them to come to the table. Okay, there with me here because there are parts of the Upper Midwest hunkering down for Winter Storms and there are some areas of hawaii who may seek snow as well. Looking at my box weather app here in denver, its 67. That is a high today weve not had any snow. Are we going to im not sure if we can get him up.
