people. can they figure out by the 2022 mid-terms exactly what they need to be listening for? here is a bit of how the winner, glenn youngkin, stayed on message last night. >> we're going to introduce choice within our public school system. [cheering and applause] how about that, choice within the public school system. we are going to start with 20 charter schools. we are going to press forward with a curriculum that includes listening to parents' input. a curriculum that allows our children to run as fast as they can teaching them how to think, and enabling their dreams to soar. >> harris: then there is this. still too close to call in the cobalt blue state of new jersey. a few thousand votes separate murphy and ciattarelli. even if the incumbent democrat governor were to win the tight battle should raise alarm battles in states which president biden won. this one in particular, new jersey, biden won by 16 points. we're watching that. and if the race was called this hour we'll bring it to you live. first alexandria hoff is live in chantilly, virginia on the youngkin victory. >> harris, the former governor terry mccauliffe issued a statement today congratulating the new governor elect glenn youngkin who took the victory stage just after 1:00 this morning. >> all righty, virginia, we won this thing! [cheering and applause] i want to thank my beloved commonwealth of virginia. >> the 54-year-old former carlisle group ceo saw a sharp turnaround in the polls crediting the growing momentum to his focus on what he calls kitchen table issues like taxes, jobs, community safety and skoo.s it was on the issue of parental involvement in public education that he found enthusiastic support. >> together we'll change the trajectory of this commonwealth. and friends, we are going to start that transformation on day one. [cheering and applause] there is no time to waste. our kids can't wait. we work in real people time, not government time. >> in a statement mccauliffe accepted the loss and wrote we must protect virginia's great public schools and invest in our students and protect voting rights, protect a woman's right to choose and above all else we must protect our democracy. while there will be setbacks along the way i'm confident the long-term path of virginia is toward inclusion, openness and tolerance for all. democratic analysts will look back on what went wrong on the mccauliffe side. he had a clear advantage going into this. time i.d. served in the role before but struggled to gain voter enthusiasm. one of his main tactics was to repeatedly to try to tie glenn youngkin to president trump. if virginia went for biden it would come down to simple math. it did come down to numbers, not the ones mccauliffe was looking for. he was focused on trump. while that was happening youngkin was focused on parents and that paid off. >> harris: only one trump even if he could vote in the state of virginia. he doesn't live there. a lot of parents are voters. across the board media outlets from associated press to "new york times" honing in on one key take away from last night. democrats are in big trouble moving forward and this from vice president kamala harris when she was stumping for terry mccauliffe. >> when this election happens for governor of virginia, it's a tight election, it's a close election. and it is a bellwether for what happens in the rest of the country. what happens in virginia will in large part determine what happens in 2022, 2024, and on. >> harris: well, a lot of conservatives taking to social media to tell the vice president harris, you nailed it. joe concha fox news contributor and media politics columnist for the hill. joe, your take. >> fact check 100% true. this will impact 2022, 2024. may even impact, harris, kamala harris's ambitions. say joe biden doesn't want to run for a second term given his age or poll numbers and kamala harris is supposed to be plan b and has to run on her performance in fixing the border crisis, for example, or point to all the press conferences -- oh that's right she hasn't held any since vice president. you have to wonder what it does for her fortunes. what we witnessed last night across major parts of cable news besides the one we're talking on now represents everything wrong with this business. van jones who i praised as being one of the more pragmatic voices is calling glenn youngkin the koefld delta variant of politics. calling him a disease of trumpism. >> harris: hold on one second. i only interrupt just to support when i can have a guest on with the elements that we have. let's watch that very thing. >> i think we will win in virginia. the race is very close. i have not seen any evidence that whether or not i am doing well or poorly, whether or not i have my agenda passed or not is going to have any real impact on winning or losing. even if we had passed my agenda i wouldn't claim we won because biden's agenda passed. >> harris: all right. one more. >> cue it up. >> it was education. white parents don't like the idea of teaching about race. unfortunately race is just the most palpable tool in the toolkit. >> we have seen the emergence of the delta variant of trumpism. in other words, youngkin same disease, but spreads a lot faster and can get a lot more places. >> critical race theory was a lie. i think we need to go on offense a little bit. they will say anything if this is a boxing match they will bring in heavier gloves and nicer boots. >> the only reason we're talking about critical race theory is because glenn youngkin had 18 months to convince people that he was not a fire breathing horns out of the skull racist. >> harris: it was worth waiting for just to get your reaction, joe concha. >> you wonder why those networks, cnn losing something like 3/4 of their audience at the beginning of year, msnbc way down as well. that's every day on those networks. when you scream racism over and over again when i read my kid the boy who cried wolf you stop listening. zero impact. for van jones to say that. youngkin never had one live campaign event with trump says he is a twin of his. youngkin ran on a series of issues that won him this election without ever mentioning trump or making a personality contest. education, economy, safety. then you turn to msnbc and joy reid talking about how it was education, which is code for white parents who don't like the idea of teaching about race. keep attacking parents who care about their kids' education as racist, domestic terrorists. it has worked great so far. what an absolute joke. >> harris: for democrats it may be more dire than that. not just the stuff some of the liberal media are spouting and shore the democrats losing up on. it is the fact they don't seem to have another game. there is no other game in town. and if you don't have a plan b and you are losing, what do you do? just sit down or i guess you could hope for a recount. i want to get to new jersey now and the reason i bring that up is because it is too close to call and has been and nobody saw this coming. even the campaign for the incumbent governor phil murphy didn't see it coming they say. i checked. there is no automatic recount in new jersey. no matter how close this may be probably the best people in that state depending how it turns out who could get a recount i think this is interesting are the citizens. private citizens in new jersey are allowed to apply for a recount in groups of at least 10 if they have reason to believe there is an error that has been made in counting the votes upon any public question of any election. they actually have more power than the person who ran who would lose no matter how close this is. that is really interesting. phil murphy up by 20 points just a couple of months. >> yeah. he won the state four years ago by 14 points. joe biden won this state where you and i live by 16 points. this was a political earthquake last night here in new jersey. even if jack ciattarelli doesn't win but loses by less than a point think of all the people that biden or murphy has lost at this point in a county we're familiar with, it went easily for phil murphy two years ago. a lot of those groups will call for the recount here. this shows that democrats really don't have anything to run on. you want to run on the economy? okay. talk about inflation and talk about the supply chain crisis and we can talk about gas prices. you want to run on crime? violent crime rising in city after city around the country and in minneapolis you saw democrats suffer a big loss as far as defunding the police and that initiative failing. you want to talk about afghanistan, the border, education? you tell me what the bumper sticker is for democrats in 2022 and 2024 that doesn't have trump's name on it instead is something positive to make people's lives better and i'm not coming up with anything right now, harris. >> harris: looking for a plan b. that will fit. okay, that's the race we're watching this hour. joe concha. thank you for getting us started not just in virginia but also in new jersey. remember no matter how squeaky close it is, as joe concha just said, it matters most to democrats even if they do win not a huge victory and not a mandate. got to let you go. speaking of mandates republican senator calling out president biden over his vaccine mandate hypocrisy. when it comes to federal employees versus the average american worker. plus. >> this model of saying not only do we need to defund but we need to dismantle and start anew allows us to really reimagine what public safety should look like in our community. >> harris: wow, reimagine. does that word have a new meaning? now minneapolis voters have spoken on this huge issue of politics and public safety and they make sense. their choice and what it means going forward. in "focus" the national vice president of the fraternal order of police. first psoriasis, then psoriatic arthritis. it was really holding me back. standing up... ...even walking was tough. my joints hurt. i was afraid things were going to get worse. i was always hiding, and that's just not me. not being there for my family, that hurt. woooo! i had to do something. i started cosentyx®. i'm feeling good. watch me. cosentyx helps people with psoriatic arthritis move, look, and feel better. it targets more than just joint pain and about cosentyx. veteran homeowners, this is the best time in history move, look, and feel better. to turn your home equity into cash. because home values have climbed to all time highs. and so has your equity. turn it into cash now, while mortgage rates are near all time lows. the newday 100 va cash out loan lets you borrow up to 100% of your home's value. you could take out more than $50,000. use it to improve your home. pay off high rate debt. pay for big expenses. or put it in the bank for real peace of mind. now's the time to use your va home loan benefit to get cash before mortgage rates begin to rise. call now. >> harris: fox news alert. minneapolis voters say no to a measure that would have dismantled their police department. a win for law enforcement in the radical left's war on police there. fox's own pete hegseth if "focus" on what the result means for communities across america. >> this is an overwhelmingly democrat city. what this says is you can have a black lives matter sign on your lawn or a black lives matter written sign in the front of your business but ultimately when you go into the ballot box you are probably voting your own personal and private interests which is policing isn't perfect but what i don't want to do is scrap the police department, slogans don't affect people's lives, police do. minneapolis found common sense last night. even democrats voting to keep the police department. >> harris: outside groups such as the aclu and move on.org poured in cash to support the ballot initiative. it failed. 56 to 44%. as crime in minneapolis is rising squad member house representative ilhan omar tweeted her support for the now defeated measure. support, it failed. it went down. she loves it. joe gamaldi from the fraternal order of police is here. are there bigger impacts you see, far-reaching impacts across the country how we've seen how this one went down in minneapolis? >> i think what you saw really was a rebuke of the public from the defund and dismantle the police department narrative we've been seeing for quite some time here. this is amidst historic crime surge in minneapolis. murders are up 65% over the last two years there. i think the public was fed up with the radical agenda. and the impact is we're seeing this sentiment nationwide. a recent pew research poll said 23% of african-american want the police department dismantled and no one supports this anymore. it is a loser and people start abandoning this radical agenda. >> harris: what you are saying is 77% of people of color, right, don't support it. how do you not listen to 77% of people? pew research is not like some local poll you took with 200 people. it is a big swath. >> yeah, absolutely. but interestingly enough we still have representative omar going out there saying i still support dismantling to police department. i will add she keeps a private security force to make sure she is safe. imagine the audacity to look at members in her district in the face victims of violent crime and had family members killed and saying i deserve protection but you don't. where is her empathy and compassion? my only hope and my real hope here is that this really shifts what is going on in minneapolis and they can build their community back and build a safer community for everyone, not just special representatives of congress. >> harris: so true. texas liberal stronghold of austin people voted against a measure to hire more police officers. the vote comes as the city's homicide rate skyrocketed 88% after the city council slashed the police budget. the murder rate there now is the highest it has been in more than 20 years. what do you think is happening there? >> well, when i think you do a postmortem i think it is important to recognize the mayor and city council had been giving the figure to the hard working men and women of the police department for some time. they scared the public. they told them we will cut services across the board to fund public safety. what the public should be scared of is the fact the murder rate is up 88% in austin. austin was once a mecca for the arts and music. now it's a dangerous community and nobody wants to walk through with their families. if they truly cared about the community there they would invest in law enforcement. i just spoke to an austin police officer last night. they've had 350 resignations and retirements in the last year. another 250 people up here shortly to leave. it has gotten so bad, harris, so bad they've actually stopped responding to crimes. your house gets broken into, too bad. we aren't coming out. they stole from your business? tough luck, we're not coming. if the mayor had any courage whatsoever he would lay his ass on the line and put a vest on and get out there with us and put his life on the line. i won't hold my breath to see mayor adler out there. >> harris: you are talking to the cops on the ground in austin. several things pop but this key issue. i wonder if the people of austin are getting the real true raw story from that perspective when you vote for no more cops. did they know the big numbers that you at the fop spit out about those who have left and are leaving? if you are fed one thing you don't know what else is on the plate and asked to make a big decision like this. we'll move to this. of course it's a nationwide issue, we know that. "washington examiner" is calling out seattle now for defunding its police which has caused retention emergency. if you have an experience and skill, why would you washing for a boss who hates you and deep down wants you gone? why not just let the city council have anarchists run the whole city? why not find a job in boise, bend, des moines where you won't get shot and the people who pay your salary believe criminals are a bigger problem than you are? tough questions, joe. >> it's funny. they are leaving in droves from seattle. hundreds of officers have resigned and retired. we tried turning it over to the anarchists, didn't we in chop? we had people getting murdered and raped and militant groups take over the area. didn't work too well without police officers there and why seattle is offering a $25,000 sign-on bonus for people to take that job. you could make it $250,000 no one will take that job to be a police officer in seattle and why places like florida and governor desantis are giving $5,000 bonuses for officers to come to florida to work. >> harris: chop became a protected zone. seattle a federal judge rejected a lawsuit by the seattle mom of the 19-year-old gunned down in the chop protest zone in the summer of 2020. so you protect criminals and you don't help the people who have been victimized. your last thought. >> you know what the problem is, harris? we have a real problem in this country right now. we care more about criminals than vick tills. we have a resolving door criminal justice policy in cities across the country and about time we listened to the law abiding citizens of our communities not the screaming activists or the criminals. >> harris: if it's as dire as you lay out we have to figure out how we got there. it is really important. joe gamaldi, thank you very much. well not just virginia, republicans may deal democrats a second key loss in the deep blue state of new jersey. we're focused on it this hour. the call could come at >> from the left side of the aisle? i think we have a lot of work to do. there isn't a democrat out there not worried about what will happen in the mid-terms. it looks like we will maintain the seat in new jersey, a huge fete for phil murphy, the first democrat to win reelection since 1977. that's a big deal. if you look at virginia as a microcosm that what might happen across the rest of the country and there is cause for concern. i see the race differently. this wasn't an affirmation of trump's america first policies. glenn youngkin ran away from donald trump and didn't want to campaign with him. didn't want to rest on that. he out performed the former president in the rural counties and then was able to get romney-level support in the suburban counties, due to 15-point increase with white women which is what put him over the top there. terry mccauliffe outperformed ralph northam and outperformed with minority voerts. we can't look to that for the answer why we lost the race in virginia. >> harris: your rebutall. >> the reason you lost the race the last 10 months have been a reality show. keeping up with the marxists. aging relics like schumer, pelosi, biden out of touch with american people refuse to turn over to the next generation of their family because they are the radical the aoc squad and they are promoting hate. they hate capitalism, american exceptionalism, israel and american values. the other characters that show up are angry violent aunt maxine another relic who wants to call for more violence and bring in the black line marxist and why the democrats lost. the truth is they're out of step and out of touch with the american people. americans are rejecting socialism and embracing trump's doctrine of america first and rejecting defunding the police and making sure we keep crt out of our schools. that's what last night was about and why the red wave will sweep this country. >> harris: jessica. >> t.w. terry mccauliffe looks nothing like aoc. he was a moderate and allied with the moderate part. i said what went wrong. a swing back to more traditional republican alliances. donald trump when he was on the ballot -- >> harris: let me step in for a minute so we can go back and forth a little bit. >> it wasn't about crt but about the fact kids were out of school for 18 months. i think that people forget how terrible that was for parents who then took -- >> harris: i wanted to give you an opportunity but i can't give you an opportunity to talk about where you go from here because he had been governor before. so if you are saying there was traditional establishment why couldn't he hook into it?
