three, however many, whatever many magic shots? let's talk about the shot. today, former secretary of state and chairman of the joint chiefs of staff chairman colin powell died at the age of 84 due to, according to his family, complications from covid. powell was a great american who served his country and he embodied the american dream. our thoughts and prayers are with his family. the family's statement on facebook read as follows. general colin powell, former u.s. secretary of state and chairman of the joint chiefs of staff passed away this morning due to complications from covid-19. he was fully vaccinated. we want to thank the medical staff at walter reed national medical center for their care and treatment. we have lost remarkable loving husband father, grandfather and great american. i want you to look at the bottom of that post. what you see is a tag by facebook with the familiar visit the covid-19 information center for vaccine resources. it is notable to everyone, to viewers, to you, to internet commoners to his family, to facebook, to everyone that powell died while fully vaccinated. but that observation and any questions it may raise are violations of the one true commandment, thou shall get the shot or shots, whatever, how many shots. this is a real headline posted late this afternoon by the pointer institute. that's journalism school. quote: why colin powell's death should not be framed of a death of a vaccinated person. this is bending the facts to confirm a broken narrative. and it is not journalism. not even close. so, let's do something dangerous here now. let's commit an act of real journalism. let's not start with the conclusion. let's simply gather facts, data and ask honest questions. first, it's true that powell was fully vaccinated. but as many pointed out, he was 84 years old. he was suffering from a terrible form of blood cancer called multiple myeloma which expresses the immune system. so powell, he may be an outlier. does this tell us anything about the effectiveness of the vaccine? for that matter, what does it mean that powell was fully vaccinated? what does fully vaccinated mean? is that two shots from pfizer? from moderna? is a booster required to be fully vaccinated? what if you are in the vulnerable demographic. are you fully vaccinated if you haven't had a booster. these are important questions not just for our health but so we may comply and keep our jobs under these rolling mandates. when, for example, was powell vaccinated? was it six months ago or was it two months ago? how long does the vaccine last? did he get a booster? how recently did he get the booster? i'm not asking questions to invade colin powell's privacy. these are questions for all of us. another one, if you have one shot of the johnson & johnson, are you vaccinated or is its effectiveness now so low that you need to immediately get the booster as suggested yesterday by dr. anthony fauci? and by the way, speaking of dr. fauci and vaccine effectiveness, how effective overall are these vaccines? the headlines have shifted over the past 18 months. and look at these numbers. we have gone from implications that the vaccine was 100 percent effective to 90%. to 70%. to 60%. to 50%. and now new reports show johnson & johnson shot is only 3% effective. this does not inspire much confidence. the vaccine seems to wear off. it does not offer permanent protection from transmission, speaking of which, how did colin powell get covid? hard to believe he was coming into contact with the dirty, dreaded and soon-to-be unemployed unvaccinated. here are the facts. here is data. here what happens we know right now. the vast majority of hospitalizations and deaths in the united states are among the unvaccinated. and almost every study suggests the vaccine reduces severity and death from covid. but we also know that data is beginning to show out of the u.k. an increase in the percentage of hospitalizations and deaths coming from the vaccinated. that's somewhat understandable to understand that data because this is a disease that effects older people. and it is older people who are disproportionately vaccinated. now, i want to be clear about something. i have offered no opinion here on the vaccine. i'm not giving you the conclusions like some others. nighttime leading you to vaccine hesitancy or hectoring you on the other end of the spectrum into getting the shot. anyone who suggests otherwise is lie talking. and they will lie to you. they will edit out this part of this segment. i'm trustst trusting you with the facts and asking questions that as of yet no one has answered correctly and they haven't even answered consistently. least of all, the covidiens. so here is what i will say. before we punish individuals. before we punish every aspect of this culture from sports to law enforcement. before we drive the economy off the cliff under authoritarian mandate, before it's too late, me, why have you decided not to get the covid-19 vaccine? >> will, thank you so much for having me. you know, a lot went into my decisions for not deciding to get the vaccine for starters. i have had had covid in the past. i understand immunity natural infection is robust and long-lasting. i have that with my current physical fitness level and age group i don't feel i'm in a category of fear or necessary need right now to get the vaccine. so many others of the craziness and vitriol going on right now. people losing their jobs, i feel there is a blatant miscarriage of information by the media has turned this thing so sour and it's been politicized and i see people and i'm standing with people who are deciding not to get it on the backs of freedom. freedom getting people the choice. religious freedom to choose what he want this to do as our country was founded and those are my reasons for not getting the vaccination. >> will: jonathan, how has that been received within the locker room. how are you treated? are you allowed to mingle freely with the team. eat with the team. spend time in the locker room with the team? >> so, for starters, based on the team, everyone has been awesome. nothing from my teammates. nothing from the coaching staff or the organization. but right now there are restrictions from the nba and that i am not allowed to eat with my teammates and i think those will go into effect pretty soon with the season starting. not being able to leave your residence or hotel except for team activities or essential activities. >> will: you know, jonathan i spoke about here in the open that there has been this censors of anyone that asks questions. this discouragement of anyone who pushes back or simply wonders about the unanswered parts of this push. and the overwhelming cultural push that everyone should get vaccinated. i have heard your fellow nba super star draymond green and you and i have talked as well about this type of persuasion. this type of hectoring, this type of mandate hasn't been pervasive. has that type of overwhelming pressure pushed you in any one direction or the other? >> i would say for sure. i think a lot of people -- it's not that people should not get the vaccine, that's not the argument. it's that for me there aren't scientific legal or to me moral grounds for the vaccine mandate. i think when you have take into account the nature of covid and the nature of the vaccine that doesn't stop infection or transmission, the nature of natural immunity that hasn't been talked about and then obviously the polarization by the media that has created such distrust, if this thing is just about protecting people and protecting the public health, why does cnn have to lie about joe rogan taking horse dewormer or why does the rolling stone have to willful fiscal cliff misrepresent my position on vaccine or covid. why does it happen. i think there are a lot of grounds to say this should be up for people's personal choice whether or not to get it. >> will: jonathan, gave a press conference for what it's worth it went viral very eloquently defended his personal choice and he was misconstrued in many mainstream media outlets like roll stone which i guess somewhat come to be expected in this culture in this push. jonathan, let me ask you the question many detractors have asked. why are you only making this calculation for yourself? isn't that selfish? duo something to your team? duo something to society to get vaccinated? >> you know, i don't think it's for myself or, you know a lot of people said during the press conference i spoke in the first person but i really am, i think other guys like kyrie. anybody saying it should be people's personal choice are thinking about other people and their freedom to make the decisions that they do. like i said, when you take into account, the covid virus that we have that the average death age is greater than, you know, the life expectancy in the country. and then you take into effect the vaccine that does not stop infection or transmission. your decision to protect yourself from the virus is your own. and taking the vaccine will do that i'm not saying there is anything wrong with the vaccine. i think people who have, you know, pre-existing conditions or feel they want to take that stuff [inaudible] unvaccinated person but vaccinating people are carrying it and transmitting it as well it should be based on those premise cease and talking about natural immunity -- >> will: really quickly, jonathan. you play in the state of florida. you are allowed to play all your games and collect your entire paycheck. kyrie irving nba super star plays in the city of new york and won't be able to participate nets he could sacrifice north of $5 million. what would you do if you were in kyrie's position and had you to sacrifice that income? >> you know, i think i would be doing the exact same thing that kyrie is doing. i think and understanding what he is portraying is that the principle of people's freedom. the principle of living in this country and caring about the person next to you, whether they lose their job or not over something to me that is nuanced and not black and white issue. to me that is a hill is he willing to die on. some other americans and some other people the espn reporter who said she wouldn't have talked to the police. i'm so fascinated by this. what is the mindset of the police do. they all appreciate and embrace this type of rule and this new power they have? are there some going or great percentage of them going no, this is wrong? >> i couldn't tell you how many. there are some that are certainly embracing it and enjoying the power trip. but, you can see in a lot of the videos they don't seem to note rules or the laws themselves. as soon as somebody stands up to them, they are not used to it and back down quite quickly like any bully, any school yard bully that's the way it happens. a lot of these citizens and civilians just don't know their rights and don't know the rules as well. and don't know how to defend themselves. and to be honest when the cops don't realize or when there are no cameras on them. they act as if there are no laws that they are bound by. i heard that there are a number of cops that choose to take sick days on planned protest days which seem to be every weekend at the moment. but, i couldn't tell you how many it is scary. i will tell you a year and a half ago i was standing there back the blue coronavirus one of the long lasting requirements
