day. the threats to the holiday season with christmas and hanukkah on the way. the white house trying to address the backlog as consumers face a triple whammy. the supply train problems and some rising inflation and increasing gas prices. arthel: we have michelle steele standing by with reaction to the president response. first we will go to david. live at the white house with the very latest. >> hi. the first few months of the covid pandemic in 2020, and candidate joe biden criticized his predecessor who was here at the time donald trump. biden, this was during the food shortage in the candidate said we needed leadership in the trump administration was not doing a good job in managing that food shortage crisis. now biden is in the oval office and he has quite a few issues to wait through including the crisis. many different words for it. cargo ships have been parked off the coast of california for the last few months. millions of goods are in limbo. new numbers from the labor department joe import prices rose last month over falling in august. the consumer price index climbed 5.4% in september. compared to the prior year. food rose 4.6%. electricity, 5.2%. >> and a lot of this is not just about the issue of how long the ports are open which is a big deal. it is also about the availability of trucks and drivers to drive them. truckers have been on the frontlines of this this entire pandemic. they want to be paid well. they want to be respected and we do have an issue of shortages of truck drivers in this country. eric: president biden spending the weekend here in washington. honoring members of law enforcement who died in the line of duty. >> it is a hard time to be a police officer in america. make sure you have the tools to be the partners and protectors communities need. more resources, not fewer. eric: this afternoon the president mentioned the attack on the capital last january 6, notable that last night if the department of justice should prosecute those that are not honoring subpoenas issued as part of the commission. for example, steve shannon, the president said yes, the justice department put out a rare review in the statement. the department of justice will make its own independent decisions and all prosecutions based solely on the facts and law. white house press secretary put out a tweet after the president made that comment, said that this white house, including the president, including the commander-in-chief, supports anf justice. arthel: that is very good. we need that. david live at the white house. thank you. eric. eric: supplied chain and crisis. can we get goods moving in time for the holiday shopping season? michelle steele of california joins us now. a member of the house transportation committee. congresswoman, a few weeks ago if you set the supply chain problems, talking about supply chain, we did not hear about this until a few weeks ago. how bad is the crisis, what can we do to try and solve it was mark. >> the crisis right now, as of yesterday, we had 77 ships lined up and i heard through this weekend, when into another 25 ships coming in. just coming into the ports and almost and then they have two leave. right now, 247 working at the ports is one of those solutions. it will be one small solution. we have a problem. in california, most of the independent contractors are illegal to work. owner -- they cannot even come into california to work. we have a problem with truckers. they cannot come to california to work. and then all of these cargoes, you have to clean the storage room area and we don't have any storage. the price rent of the price went up. about 10 times comparing to last year. we have a lot of these problems. this is california policy. trucks had not come in. trucks have to be less than 3-year-old trucks. new trucks have to come in. this problem is that you have to solve the trucking problem that california policies are wrong. we have to undo that policy. second, we have two move these ships. right now, 77 plus, and other 25 coming in, they don't even know where to put their anchors, 30-ton anchors that they put inside of the water. only half of those ships have locations to put that down. that created that oil spill problem because, you know what, it is not just the oil pipeline, there is the shoreline and miles and miles of all of these are under. you know what, i ask national oceanic and atmospheric administration, they actually have the map. i asked them if that is accurate. when was the last time you surveyed it? these ships have to put their anchors down, we are not even talking about thousands. you put 30 tons down and then they wait therefore how many weeks they have to wait. that will create another amount of problems. we have a problem in california. eric: it is like a parking lot out there. there is an average of two weeks plus waiting just to unload what they had to unload. then they get the bottleneck once they are here. you mentioned the trucks and the other regulations. what would you like to see changed? look at those ships. they just sit out there for a long time. people want that stuff. what do you think we can do now, congresswoman, to get the bottleneck open so that the supply chain can work the way that it used to? >> we have to bring those trucks in and they will move these cargoes out. that is the first thing we really have to do. you know, the council and policy, independent contractor choppers coming in. we have to undo that law. that is the first thing we have to do. second, get all these ships lining up, it will not cause another problem, we really have to stop that. it is just temporary for the next 180 days. they cannot put their anchors down inside of 24 nautical miles from the shoreline. we are working on actually both sides to bring the truckers and, bring those cargoes out and deliver to the shops. you cannot just let them park out there. eric: they are out there and they are staying. the administration says we are getting a record number of imports. they obviously realize there is an issue. let's listen. >> now more people have jobs, more people are buying goods. that is increasing the demand. that is a good thing. at the same time, we also know that the supply is low because we are coming out the pandemic and because a bunch of manufacturing sectors across the world have shut down because ports have not been functioning as they should be. these are all things that we are working through. eric: do you think they are working through that efficiently and effectively? >> you know what, it has nothing to do with the pandemic. all of these wrong policies, we knew this would happen. that is the one causing congestion and bottlenecks here. we have to solve that problem first. eric: finally, congresswoman, one of four korean americans in congress. you were born in seoul and you also support the human rights act. new york city council bill named the street in front of the admission to the united nations hill was falsely arrested and murdered. "that death is a tragic reminder for north korea regime and lack of concern for human life. he should be alive today and should have the opportunity to live in new york city like a plant. naming the street after him would serve as a reminder to the north korean regime that the u.s. stands firmly against their gross human rights abuses and to his family that he will not be forgotten". it is now lining its way in the legal department of the new york city council. your thoughts, congresswoman, on this young man. >> my thoughts from north korea, and i know how it is because i've been hearing from my parents. you know, auto did not have to die, he was arrested by north korea for nothing. he could not see. as soonest he arrived in his country, guess what, he died. this naming after him, i
