i think these blackberries would be handy if we could have them. i would thereof get them for work. i remember going to the second floor can we get a blackberry to keep in touch? we see no need for that man have things changed. now there is no more blackberry now it's can you imagine not having one. ainsley: i thought about fruit. the pleabs. what are you talking about? brian: crack berries. ainsley: remember we had pagers in local news. steve: we had pagers. ainsley: now iphones. brian: when we had communicate we would have a pigeon we would put a little note on their leg and send it out to each other. borders. .[buzzer] steve: now we can't open the windows anymore. 25 years plus 1. ainsley: president biden is hoping for good news in september's job report. brian: he should be getting up in a couple hours. this as democrats are blaming republicans for threatening the economy even after the republicans gave a major concession in the senate. it's unbelievable. steve: griff jenkins joins us live from washington, d.c. he could not find that video of his first appearance where he had the crazy pants but nonetheless we have him live in the nice suit. brian: he did send me video of him in crazy pants. ainsley: those were black and white. i saw you wearing those lily pulitzer can crazy pants pink and green. i rofd them. get. griff: got to be a trend setter. what can i say? >> you are welcome, senate saved you. they punted to disease this fiscal cliff. they voted to raise the debt ceiling by nearly half a trillion dollars after a deal was struck by minority leader mitch mcconnell which infuriated some in his own party. watch. >> well, we screwed up. at the end of the day we blinked. if we do this again in december we will shoot ourselves in the head. i will do everything in my power to make sure we don't do this again in december. griff: you might have expected chuck schumer to show gratitude to the g.o.p. leader. no, instead, he viciously attacked him. >> despite immembers opposition from leader mcconnell and members of his conference, our caucus held together and we pulled our country back from the cliff's edge that republicans tried to push us over. griff: now, guys, look closely. i want you to see this video right here. you see joe manchin putting his face into his hands visibly disappointed by schumer's remarks. this bill heads to the house where it must pass before going to the president's desk. we will see what happens meanwhile, the president hopes to avoid a repeat of last month's disastrous jobs numbers when the economy added a mere 235,000 jobs. well short of the projected 700,000. today's economists are forecasting 500,000 new jobs and a 0.1% drop in unemployment to 5.2% to 5.1%. the projection due in part to subsiding covid cases. but if they fall short again, look for the president, perhaps, to blame the pandemic after he praised vaccine mandates on the road yesterday. we will find out these numbers come out at 8 o 30 this morning. brian, ainsley, steve? brian: thanks, griff. great camera work by joe manchin. picking up joe manchin in the back. i don't think he knew he was on camera. steve: shaking his head. brian: working behind the scenes guys, can we not default on the debt? i know how bitter and polarized we remain. can we not polarize on the. maybe some of the work he did behind the scenes got the country, forget about it not just us. two more months and senator chuck schumer showing almost no leadership, only back biting comes out and does what he does. gets in the face of mitch mcconnell which just adds up to any pressure should mcconnell ever want to acquiesce or go halfway again. ainsley: shows no appreciation for the 11 g.o.p. members who supported this so that the debt ceiling so, it would not crumble and our government wouldn't crumble joe manchin is behind him saying i can't believe this they supported you and allowed this to happen and allowed your deal go through this is how you treat them. now you are accosting them and having a fiery speech. later when he was asked in the hallway why did you do this i put my hand over my face it was not appropriate what he was saying and civility is gone. steve: absolutely. apparently, this is revealed today in the "wall street journal," apparently, over the last couple of weeks, mitch mcconnell has been talking to joe manchin. and kyrsten sinema. and he -- membership mcconnell met with the republican senators to explain the strategy behind giving them this lifeline. and essentially he said that senators manchin and sinema were under so much pressure from their own party to end the filibuster as a reason to offer the short-term extension. they were worried that the debt ceiling argument, rather than immigration or voting right could be the one thing that threatened the filibuster and that's why we always hear from joe manchin saying, you know what? i'm not going to go for the simple majority. it's got to always have, in this case, 10 vote over a majority. a simple majority. and that's why he is behind it mitch mostly cloudy council doesn't want it to go away. remember, we were talking on wednesday how the democrats were floating the idea that he this would just do a one-time only simple majority on debt ceiling lifting. and the republicans are going one time only? come on, you do it once, you are going to do it forever. brian: on immigration would be next. voting rights would be next. ainsley: ted cruz, he questioned why the republicans had to come to their aid because he says for 10 months democrats could have done this any time they wanted. but at least some democrats, talking about sinema and march, realize drowning the nation in debt. spending taxes is not popular back home. donald trump was asked about it. and he said mcconnell is not doing the job. he gave them a lifeline and it's a shame, lindsey graham agreed with them and says republicans folded. brian: the republicans tactically why it works for them, they are, as you know, democrats are at each other's throats about this reconciliation bill. the only thing that brought democrats together was the debt ceiling. because they all wanted to raise the debt ceiling. thought it was irresponsible for republicans to do it. regardless senator graham has a point and so does the president, clearly. as soon as you take the debt ceiling away then they have got to fight with each other again. republicans now go focus on differences and not on the debt ceiling. ainsley: don't you think republicans are thinking and saying let's give them this. brian: i thought so. ainsley: we will do infrastructure. let's reconsider the amount of for reconciliation. steve: manners are happy what they did yesterday. the stock market went up 500 points. ainsley: that's true. steve: going to be arcing about tactics and strategy. we avoided fiscal cliff we avoided earlier in the week which would be a disaster. in the meantime, they should have solved the infrastructure question. because nancy pelosi says she going to have a vote by the end of this month. brian: go ahead. steve: i was going to say. meantime, most is a congress woman and then joe manchin is a senator. you should note, if you are going to yell at somebody essentially. you better know the difference between the two of them. yesterday, an aggressive activist targeted once again kyrsten sinema. she is a senator. but that person kept calling her a congresswoman. here she is on the sidewalk being asked, okay, which part of the build back better program do you want to cancel congresswoman? he just switched parties and switched the power in the senate. maybe kyrsten sinema should have a press conference with joe manchin and say you know what? if this continues i think i will be an independent. you would get a lot of heat with aoc and others sniping would stop. ainsley: she is a democrat. she represents the people of arizona. bernie sanders is condemning her, but he. steve: he is not even a democrat. ainsley: exactly. he is progressive. and he represents a different kind of voter. she is john mccain territory. the maverick territory. she represents constituents. brian: represent around the world and she doesn't. ainsley: constituents didn't vote her in senator washington like bernie sanders. that's not who bernie sanders is. brian: i don't think we sent anyone to vote like bernie sanders i was hoping. ainsley: i was curious who did sign that letter to say this is inappropriate. brian. steve: all of the leaders. ainsley: schumer, elizabeth warren, joe manchin, klobuchar, cortez and cory booker. steve: that is some of what is going on in washington. meanwhile, let's go out west and discover that elon musk is announcing a major move that's going to cost california. guess where he's moving the h.q.?
