Get this Booster Shot. Its big news right now on top of the tragic news about the devastating Drone Strike that claimed so many lives. I want to bring you up to date on this fda development. Welcome. Im neil cavuto. This is your world. It was the president s push to make sure that those even already vaccinated get an Insurance Shots, a Booster Shot, a third shot that will protect them. The companies behind making these boosters and the only one thats been cleared is pfizer. Moderna is working on one that could get approval very soon. The rub is that it might not offer the great benefits that either company claims. While its welcome news, promising news, it came down to do you need it. Do average folks that have been vaccinated really need a Booster Shot . Thats why this Rephrased Question and the Fda Panel Voting on this is so crucial. Because the Food And Drug administration advisory panel had said essentially for the vast majority of folks, those 16 and older, presumably without any other extenuating circumstances, it really isnt necessary. They went on to say that this is calling in to question and maybe fears this is coming from the medical community interpreting this thinking on the fda, that it will give people pause about even getting vaccinated in the first place. The feeling seems to be that you need a Booster Shot, an Insurance Shot to make sure that youre still doing okay. Theres a separated part out there that says that we have to treat this like a common flu, a Vaccine Shot or something every single year. This would be a blow to the president , of course, who has been pushing this. His first call for a Booster Shot would be for those that had shots and roughly eight months after the last shot. The Bottom Line here unless we get clear wording from the fda, not necessary right now. Peter doocy on the developments and where we stand. Peter . Neil, something important to point out is that the two dozen or so doctors advising the fda on a Zoom Call right now are all very supportive of the protection granted by the twodose regimen. So they want people to know that if you get shots one and two, as of today, you still have adequate protection against covid19 based on the avail able data. 65 and up and some immunocompromised is different. Pfizer representatives came and gave a presentation where they showed that they think immunity starts to wane over time, which is to be expected. Some experts just were not impressed enough with the Pfizer Presentation because only two fda advisers on this board voted to recommend Booster Shots on the president s schedule. 16 voted against it. Heres one of them. Its unfortunate that the White House announced the need for an availability of boosters prior to the assessment of the data. That is exactly what the White House said. President biden came out last month to say that people should expect to go eight months after their second shot to get a booster beginning on september 20th. Officials here were so confident in their plan, even though it wasnt approved by scientists yet, that they just bought Booster Doses anyway. This process is consistent with what we outlined in august. Where our goals were to stay ahead of the virus, to lay out an initial plan based on clinical judgment and to ensure that the final plan would be based on the independent assessment and recommendations that the fda and the cdc. Maybe White House officials knew this was coming. Maybe they did not. Its telling that the white House Covid Advisory board decided that they wanted to speak before this decision was made. None of these experts are saying we dont think the Booster Dose is helpful down the line. Theyre saying to pfizer and to the experts who think that its necessary right now, just show us the information. A lot of the data that theyre getting right now is from an israeli study. The israeli study is a small Sample Size and that country is vaccinated at a higher rate than in the u. S. So these experts are saying that we think this is apples and oranges. If you want us to support, give our medical backing to a Booster Dose. Just give us something. The something is not there right now for a third shot, neil . Neil peter, thanks. The great weight as to whether you need a third shot, theyre still waiting on that right now at the fda. Theyre rephrasing the question, remember. The key vote is whether they would accept this as something for all americans to try. On that, they said no. You dont need to do that. The effectiveness is that you dont need to pump it up or take an Insurance Shot to boost it up. In other words, to get the boost you would get to increase your immunity to the virus. Separately theyre taking up the issue presumably thats what they mean by requesting whether this might apply to the vulnerable parts of the population of those, again, with compromised immune systems, the elderly. That is openended. Most doctors seem to agree maybe for this subset of the population, it might be a good idea. I bet the fda has ruled on that. When they do, we will pass that along to you as well. Well be talking to top doctors on what they think this could signal. Keep in mind among many of the unvaccinated, this holds a date and scientific argument over whether such Booster Shots are even necessary, have them wondering, why the heck should i get vaccinated in the first place if i need to boost it up and they cant agree whether the booster is a good idea . So total confusion, total miscommunication and a total point of what is next on dealing with this virus. Cases have sort of plateaued right now, but you cant get many more to get vaccinated. That is something that the administration is working on separately, all by mandate that with businesses and using osha and others. Its a mess and probably this development for the fda does not help that cause. Well have much more on that. Meanwhile, the other big story we are following today, that military Drone Strike in kabul that killed ten civilians, including seven children. They laid it out for us about a half an hour ago. Lucas tomlinson on the attack and what went wrong. Lucas . Neil, August 29th an american reaper drone was Orbiting High over Kabul Targeting in a white Toyota Corolla, which the u. S. Military thought contained isis fighters. When it launched a Hellfire Missile destroying the car, it killed seven civilians that were children. Its important that i emphasize that we did not have the luxury of time to develop pattern of life and do a number of other things. Probably our strikes in afghanistan going forward will be under a higher standard. Thats a policy matter, not a military matter. I dont think we should draw any conclusions about our ability to strike in afghanistan with isisk targets in the future. 13 american troops had just been killed in a Suicide Attack three days prior to this Drone Strike and General Mckenzie said he expected more attacks. Ten innocent civilians including seven children were kill. General milley said there were massive secondary explosions. General mckenzie said they were likely from a Propane Tank behind the vehicle. The u. S. Military is convinced the intelligence that there were isis fighters in this white Toyota Corolla based on intelligence. Neil . Neil this investigation does note apply to the first Drone Strike that took out a top isisk operative. This did not apply to that attack, right . Thats correct, neil. That Drone Strike happened prior. That was in nangarhar, eastern afghanistan. General mckenzie was bullish on that. He said it killed the intended targets. I asked him does notice having u. S. Troops on the ground hurt the u. S. Militarys ability to launch the Drone Strikes and be successful. He wouldnt admit it. He said it would be challenging without troops on the ground. I asked him if they thought they had isis fighters and explosives, he said no u. S. Troops on the ground were part of the package. Part of it is this vehicle was driven by an Aid Worker and water was being loaded in the car. The problem is during a reaper drone Orbiting High oververied, you see grainy video. What they thought were explosives were water jugs. The in. Raleigh called it a tragic Mistake And Tike responsibility. Neil to your point, theres no troops on the ground anymore. We decide to initiate strikes like to, it gets to be more complicated, right . Thats right. The Reaper Drones fly from an Air Base in the middle east, about an eighthour flight. You have to go over the arabian sea. The time over to the target is limited. Im told its four hours. You heard General Mckenzie say he didnt have the luxury of time. You just had 13 americans killed. Lets not lose the context, three days prior. A few days later, the intelligence, all the warnings blinking red we heard from the secretary of state. The president and top u. S. Military commanders. They expected more attacks. When they had this car in the cross hairs, there was probably some confirmation officials told us. They thought they were isis fighters planning another attack. Yeah, you know, its not in the general says that hes responsible for it. I not buying The Story that they didnt have a choice. They did have a choice. All they had to do is just wait a little bit longer to verify. That car pulled up and No One Else went anywhere . There was no explosives anywhere . They would have known it wasnt why just had a strike against our troops doesnt give us the Flexibility Or Ability to say that were going to be careless with the lives of other people. Im telling you, this hurts our credibility around the world and creates more enemies. Think of these people that are angry at us that were on our side. So we have to do a better job of this. We cant just accept that it was tough. We lost these people here. Well just do better next time. I think somebody needs to be responsible for these seven kids that were killed. Neil you know, i wondered, colonel, if you think of the backdrop when this attack happened. Our troops were leaving by the hundreds each day, right . We were dealing just prior with the attack, you know, right at the perimeter that claimed 13 of our soldiers. Everything just you get a feeling it was haphazard and everyone is running and leaving and youre coordinating strikes. Now theres no troops left there. Im wondering if we had to do this again, could we . Well, look, theres No Doubt that this was a really chaotic and the worst Case Scenario for having to defend yourself under pressure from enemy forces, whether it was taliban or isisk in this case. We have to have a higher standard of when we fire lethal weapons. We have to defend our people. Im 100 in agreement of that. Ive been on the protected end of that several times. We cant just say, well, im not going to worry about it. Lets fire away. In a civilian area. We knew it was in a civilian area. We have to be careful. All we had to have done is waited later. If the car continued going forward, we could have tracked it coming towards the airport, men maybe it was appropriate to take it out. That never happened. We didnt give it a chance. One thing that comes through very loud and clear is the lack of communication, this lack of one side talking to the other. In an unrelated case, seems to evidence in itself in this Fda Decision that reduced a lot of the administrations claims about the wisdom of a Booster Shot to deal with covid, not properly communicated to all the medical channels and catching those channels off guard. This does seem to be a problem here, that, you know, rears its ugly head at tough times. What do you make of it . I think youre on to something there. Both instances you wonder if political considerations really drove an incompetent process that were seeing. Its not been a good set of weeks nor the biden administration. I agree with colonel davis. This looks really bad. It is really bad. This could be called a War Crime what happened in afghanistan. You pointed out how close it was the day on August 26 when a bomb went off and we lost 12 marines and one navy corps man. This bombing three days later looks to a Skeptic A Cynic that frankly that may have been that the biden administration appeared to react and did react and in so doing didnt kill a terrorist but killed seven children. This is just atrocious. This is what we get from our 80 Billion a Year Intelligence Community and our 750 Billion a Year Military . Its more than a black eye. General mckenzie can say that he is accountable for this. Okay. He should resign and face a courtmartial. The real question is whether the white House Pressured the military to do this. We know the white House Press slurred the fda to take action. They declined to do so. Neil so we do know that now despite the earlier talk that the military was a go with the president s goal to take out our troops and they thought the government would hang on, turns out that a couple of them did not think that was the case and were worried about it. So again, the narrative keeps changing because the folks that were behind it now seem compelled to set their side of The Story. What do you make of it . Right. The diversity of opinions ought to be okay. Thats why you have the joint chief, the top uniform person, the top of our Armed Services and a Chairman And Vice chairman, duty bound to give their honest assessment to the president. The idea that all of these individuals gave the advice that its okay to jump out of afghanistan in a haphazard way, being stuck with this Outpost Embassy is outlandish. Now at the end they may have said we understand your decision. Thats all right. But President Biden said that hes gone beyond of the circus of the Trump Administration and that hes listening to the experts, hes listening to generals, doctors, professionals and that doesnt seem to be the case. Seems like decisions are being made or very Police Call bases, not on expert opinion. Yeah, just a credibility factor. The fact that biden is saying one thing and the military saying one thing and the fda saying one thing. The story changes. Theres no confidence. Neil real quickly while i have you. France is recalling their ambassador to the u. S. And australia over this sub deal, this threeway deal, Aid And Security deal with the britts and australia. Obviously france feels like Odd Man Out. Im just wondering that this plan to counter the chinese and deal with aggression in that side of the globe, who that too was poorly communicated, if you think about it. The french were blindsided. China didnt know that was coming. Maybe that matters little here. Again, the communication issue. Right. The french are being childish showing their priority is a commercial first foreign policy. Saying essentially that the focus would have to be on those that are deemed vulnerable in the population again. As i mentioned those with certain Immunity Risks or elderly, anyone that has a high risk of severe covid19. Even if they had been treated already. Now, its probably adding to your confusion over this. This is sort of the split read, the fda effectively saying that, you know, if youve been vaccinated, we think a third shot is a good idea, but only if you are a vulnerable part of the population, a fraction of that population. As we suspected and doctors told us, it was near to though that need it. Conditions as such that theyre vulnerable not only to recurrence but infections and all the rest, elderly, et cetera. But not the general population. Doctor, so good to have you here with us. I called it like a split decision, doctor. How do you see it and how do you tell your patients about it . Well, i mean, im an epidemiologist. Look at the decisions made by the fda, its a couple things. As you mentioned, you know, the recommendations for a third dose or a Booster Shot, those age 16 and over is not recommended at this time. Those for the subset population, at risk of covid19, the recommendation is to give that third dose. When we look at the findings and the data behind it, its in terms of what were seeing. So when we look at the general population, those over the adult male carrying a bag of 16, were seeing theyre focused on covid19, which is severe disease and death. So the vaccines are working well against that. As we look at the older population, even the higher risk groups, so when we look at Healthcare Workers in these occupational settings and will they benefit from a third dose. I think the one thing is, this is science evolving in real time, this is Decision Making happening with the best information and data that we have. I think The American people is confident with the authorities that we have because they are calling the science and the data. I think that we had more real time reporting instead of relying on information from israel. At the same time, this is a good decision. The last thing to mention is its not recommended for those over 16, it will progress. As we have more data, that may continue to change. But at this moment, right now, it will not be recommended for those ages 16 and over. I think that, you know, as we transition out of the phase of this pandemic and look at it becoming more endemic, live with the virus, that means that we want to have enough immunity in the population that when we come across covid19, that we have an immunity to fight it off. This booster back and forth with the fda advisory committee. They did vote unanimously to advise boosters for 65 and over and those that are compromised. But they didnt on the younger people. That was kind of all botched up as far as communication goes. And then the afghanistan part about listening to advisers. Especially if another decision comes up and if the president is going to vet you and your thoughts on something, its common president s will decide against the advice that theyre given sometimes from top military, medical advisers. They would walk across the rio grande, over a dam, into Del Rio and the united states. Were talking hundreds at a time making a long line across the river. No resistance on the u. S. Side or the Mexican Side. Once they get to shore, take a look at this third video. A Dirt Path that they walk on. We saw a long line of migrants walking the Dirt Path. We are does it lead . Right there underneath the international bridge. When the Border Patrol bus some out and more show up. The mayor of Del Rio issuing a local disaster declaration. Hes a democrat and sounding the alarm. Take a listen. Theres people having babies down there, people collapsing in the heat. Theres babies in diapers. Theyre getting aggressive. Theyve been in the Heat Day after day after day. Its very challenging to describe in words. Its extremely chaotic. Again, were told a majority of the migrants at that bridge are from haiti that country has a Covid19 Vaccination Rate of less than 1 . The mayor of Del Rio say their intel is that theres currently upwards of 10,000 migrants on the way right now getting ready to cross over to Del Rio. Border agents need serious help.
