There is a tendency to focus on all the bad stuff you can mention and conveniently leaving out the good stuff. We actually save more people because cold kills many more people, it is more dangerous in the us, more people die from heat but 100,000 people buy from cold. We cant just talk about one Thing And Neglect the other, that leads to bad policy decisions. Todd you have the answer called cheap energy. Fundamentally, in heat and cold, the opportunity to have access to cheap energy. If you are in a place where it is very hot you need access to airconditioning. Thats how the us has seen increasing temperatures, more Heat Waves and fewer Heat Deaths but cold is much more dangerous, kills a lot more people if you cant just get hot one day. You need some heat, people all the way through the cold season. That is much more costly and why a lot of poor people find it hard to keep themselves well heated through the season and if you can do that, with cheap and available energy and often that will be Fossil Fuels for right now and a lot of people dont want to hear that.
