Years ago. Now we have the beautiful Freedom Tower standing tall behind us. The incredible moving 911 museum, which you must make time for when you come to new York City. It is an absolutely moving experience. Its a tough experience, but its one that i think all americans benefit so much from from being part of. It is impossible as we sit here today to avoid the book ends of where we were then and where we are now as a country. I want to take you back to what President Bush said then about the taliban and alquaida. Watch this. Theres no timetable for the taliban just like theres no negotiations. I have said that the taliban must turn over to Alquaida Organization living within afghanistan and must destroy the terrorist camps. They must do so. Otherwise, there will be a consequence. Theres no negotiations. Theres no calendar. Well act on our time. Martha negotiation and no calendar. 20 years ago, things of course have changed. Many things have changed. As we sit here, we believe theres at least 100 americans that are stuck in afghanistan. Not allowed to leave by the taliban. Professional and businesslike is how the White House has been describing the taliban as they work to remove americans from that country. We expressed Jen Psaki will be pressed on the use of the professional and businesslike language moments from now. Senator Lindsey Graham, he believes well go back to afghanistan. Hes with us now as his former Congressman Peter King. He lost many members of his new York District back on September 11th. Always good to have him with us. Hes joining us here at Ground Zero. Start with senator Lindsey Graham. Senator graham, as we sit here today, i think its so important obviously to reflect, and that was a time of great tragedy and unique unity that you experienced on Capitol Hill that day. Were also finding ourselves in a difficult situation going forward. Your thoughts. Number 1, lets look back and honor those that were murdered. This was mass murder on a large scale by a Radical Islamic Group who desires to impose a Master Religion on the world. Lets remember the families of the fallen, the heros of that day and the heros the last 20 years that stepped up to fight these bastards. Ive never been so sick and mad as i am right now. 20 years later, who is In Charge of afghanistan . What have we done . We left hundreds, not a hundred, Hundreds Of Americans behind. Abandoned thousands of afghans that fought along our side to make sure that afghanistan would never been a Safe Haven again. We screwed this up every way you can screw it up. Its a religious war. Alquaida wants to purify the islamic faith in their image. They want to kill those outside their faith and theyre coming after us again. On the 20th anniversary of 911, the conditions of another 911 have never been greater than now. Martha you said over the weekend, you believe well have to go back to afghanistan. I saw the shock on the faces of the person interviewing you. It seems like 20 years of lives lost and investment in afghanistan did not turn out the way a lot of people thought it would. Now, boy, its incredible to see what has happened in just the last two months. This is unbelievable where we find ourselves today, senator. Number 1, this is a religious war. The people that were fighting want a Master Religion for the world. The nazis wanted a master race. We have to find them. This is a long struggle for them. Were in the first quarter. As i said, we with drew from iraq and syria, isis came about and created a caliphate that attacked 20 countries and killed 2,000. I pray im wrong. But what do you think will happen in afghanistan . Alquaida and isis will be given a safe Haven And Plan attacks against us and the only way to stop them is to hit them or hit us or after we get hit and go back in on the ground to disrupt their activity. You cannot make America Safe using drones. We learned in syria, we had to work with the kurds to destroy the caliphate there. We worked with the Iraqi Army to disrupt them in mosul. I dont believe you can count on the taliban to have our best interests at heart. Without a ground component, were blind and naked. Martha i dont know who would partner with us at this point. Weve abandoned everybody across the board. So if that is the case, senator, its going to be tough to convince people that were going to stay by your side and if you help us, you risk your own life to fight for some kind of freedom in your country. Well always be there for you. Its a tough message. In terms of the language being used out of this administration. Heres an exchange with Andrea Mitchell and ned price at the State Department and how they feel about the taliban. The lashings, the beatings of people to say nothing the appointment of an Allmale None inclusive cabinet with these two haqqani members with bounties on their head from the State Department. Were not going to make sweeping categorical judgments just yet. Martha senator graham. I will. That guy needs to be fired. The biden administration, when it comes to Radical Islam is naive. They dont understand the ayatollah in iran is a religious nazi. If he had a nuclear weapon, he would use it against the israelis, the arabs or us or gives it to terrorists. Theyre not trying to build a peaceful nuclear program in iran. Theyre trying to build a bomb. Theyre a terrorist organization. Ill designate them that if i can. Theyre brutally beating people that helped us. They shot a pregnant woman. Their killers that harbor terrorists. This administration, the biden administration, is completely out to lunch when it comes to fighting Radical Islam. Martha its frightening sitting from this spot. We were attacked so brutally September 11th to think that all of these years later were less safe and its not the fault of any of the people that fought and died on the ground in afghanistan or iraq. Senator, thank you very much. Good to see you as always. Thank you. Martha i want to bring in former new york Congressman Peter King who was here at Ground Zero with us. He was also here the day that President Bush gave that famous i can hear you and the whole world can hear you and the people that knocked these buildings down will hear All Of Us soon. You were there for that. Youre former chair of the House Homeland Security committee. Youve been involved in these issues what goes through your Mind Today . Welcome back. Good to see you. Great to be with you. Several things. The courage of the cops and the firefighters that day, the job that mayor guliani did. And being down here that day i worked about a block north. I was here when they were building it. When i got here, i had no idea where i was. The barrens were lost. It was so so much devastation, so much death. I guess one thing that stands out that day, there was some sort of a finding of survivors. I found a cobb that i knew from long island. Nypd. I said how is it going with recovery . He said forget it. Everybody is dead. We cant say it. Thats what hit me. And President Bush that day how focused he was, dedicated he was. And promising were going to get them. Well never give up. It was his leadership. Gulianis leadership, the courage of the cops and firefighters, ems workers, all of them. That saved the country. We could have easily walked around with our heads down, scared to walk around again. Think about it. September 12, who thought we would go 20 years without another attack . The firefighters, the Armed Forces in afghanistan is so heroic. It makes me sad 20 years later and the State Department and the guy from the State Department that says the jury is still out. Theyre animals, murderers. The same ones that were there September 11th. Martha you can see what is happening in the streets. Journalists that have been beaten. They take off their shirts to show the scars. A woman killed in the street. Theres no question mark. Its easy to understand. They found themselves backed into a corner where they have to work with them. Its a Hostage Situation essentially where you sweet talk the Hostage Taker and everything is going to be okay. Were going to get the people out. In many ways, the whole country is hostage. The president is afraid to do anything. Thousands of taliban are bad enough. But now you have Tens Of Thousands of terrorists coming in and another thing by the way, i agree with everything Lindsey Graham said. We used afghanistan to monitor pakistan. They have 600 nuclear weapons. We have drones operating right there. We can follow everything they were doing. We dont have that anymore. You keep in touch with so many families. You spent days and days going to funerals after september 11. What are they saying about the president coming here today . Theres real anger. Theyre not democrats and republicans. They feel the president doesnt understand what 911 is about and doesnt understand the sacrifice. For him to say the surrender was a success is an insult of those that died in afghanistan and the men and women that died here and at the pentagon. Martha thank you. Tomorrow will be a difficult day for you and everybody in your district as you remember. We always are glad to have you with us on this day. You have a guest coming up, two brothers. Gray guys. Martha were looking forward to talking with them. Thanks, peter. Thank you. Martha general Jack Keane was at the pentagon when America Flight 77 was flown in to the side of it rpi ago gaining hole in it. Much of his life after that was committed to fighting the War On Terror. Now are we beginning a new dangerous chapter . That is next. After two planes struck the towers, american flight 77 hit the pentagon. General Jack Keane was inside that day as Vice Chief of staff as the u. S. Army. Hes here as we look ahead to the new chapter in the war against global terrorism. What does he believe were facing as the taliban takes over afghanistan again. Unbelievable to say. Very true. First, to Greg Palkot who was on the ground covering the early days of the War On Terror in afghanistan. Greg . Martha, its a 911 anniversary like no other. Of course, this milestone of 20 years but also what is happening in afghanistan the last couple weeks. Take a look at what We Saw and heard back then and now. Out of the 911 horror, The Hunt was launched for Osama Bin Laden including as We Saw in the caves of afghanistan. They dont have specific information that Osama Bin Laden that hes fighters with here. Along with taking out, tangling with taliban terror hosts. The taliban could be as close as 100 yards from where we are. Even though Bin Laden was nailed in pakistan, thats when Navy Seals sought and killed Osama Bin Laden here. But the attacks continues. Terrorism was no longer a police issue. It was a true national security threat. Now this 91120th anniversary comes as the 20year u. S. War ends and the taliban is back In Charge. To help the perpetrators to be back in power is a failure. The attack at Kabuls Airport shows terror thrives. The hope is terror lessons learned will keep future attacks at bay. All of this struggle, sacrifice made, it was worth it. It was worth it. But what about the next 20 years for everybody . We spoke, martha, earlier today with ryan crocker. Hes a former ambassador for the united states to iraq, to afghanistan, pakistan. We asked him about it. He has serious issues about what has happened in afghanistan lately and confidence in america. He says the new diplomat, the new military in his words will keep the country safe, secure and prosperous. Heres hoping. Back to you. Martha heres hoping is right. Thanks, greg. Fox news senior strategic analyst general Jack Keane joins me now. Good to have you with us today. We have talked a lot in the past about your experience that day at the pentagon and one of the things that strikes me is what you say about the civilians that worked there and the heros that they were on that day. Yeah, very much so. I mean, i think what shocked america was the Shear Scale of this attack and largely the target of the attack was people going to work. That is basically true in the pentagon. The pentagon has about 25,000 people there. The overwhelming majority of the people that work there are indeed civilians. They were caught up in this first battle of what turned out to be a war that is still open to this day. Yes. I saw so many of them that evening, i visited every hospital, saw every single wounded person that we had in five hospitals. I lost 85 teammates that day. A dear friend, an active Duty Threestar general, timothy maude. The burn victims were horrific, to see them. Their suffering that they went through and the display of their courage. Then i was completely inspired the next morning because the civilian Work Force largely showed up in force knowing full well that part of the Army Spaces had been destroyed and they showed up the next day because why . They knew we were at war. They were part of the united states army. I was so proud of them. I talked to hundreds of them, martha. The fear was palpable. It was written on their face. The emotion was written on their face. There also was anger and frustration. I knew that they were going to need some help. So i called the Surgeon General and i said get counselors and psychiatrists over here. Lets stay for a While And Work through the people here that want to work. Theyre also under enormous emotional pressure. At that time, of course, they didnt know where so many of their teammates were and of course, they tragically found out that many had perished. Martha but they showed up because they knew they had a job to do. There was a fight to be taken on. Its an extraordinary schedule. There was an interesting editorial in the washington post. The title was i met Osama Bin Laden three times. Im sorry to say his Story Isnt over. It says when i met Bin Laden for the first time in the Tora Bora mountains in 1997, he predicted the united states would soon cease to be a Super Power and surprised me by suggesting an alliance of afghanistan, pakistan, Iran And China against the united states and india. What do you think about that, general . Well, theres a lot of conventional group think about what happened with Bin Laden and what his thoughts were, et cetera. I disagree with some of the basic premises. Certainly the united states remains a Super Power. When you are we challenged as a result of the debacle going forward . Indisputable we are. When you look around the world, nato and the countries in europe depend on the united states to stand up against russian aggression. The middle east, our allies in the middle east, israel and our arab states very much the same. Stand up against the aggression of iran. The same thing in the western pacific, the south China Sea with our allies out there. Those allies depend on the united states. We have got to shore up with all of these allies our resolve and our commitment and make them certainly understand that while we had our challenges in afghanistan, we have the determination and resolve to deal with the issues that were collectively facing in those regions. I believe the united states will step up and will continue to do that. Frankly despite the mistakes that weve made here in afghanistan. One of the basic premises of the article is conventional group think that Bin Laden attacking the united states wants us to respond and cause problems as a result of the United States Military presence. That is rubbish. Because the intelligence that we got out of his leaders and the mastermind on 911, k. S. M. , was quite different. There was a dispute in the obama in the sorry. The Osama Bin Laden camp against america. Many believe that america was weak because we didnt respond to the attacks on the u. S. S. Cole and now was the time to attack them. We would break america and break their Resolve And Morale and follow up quickly with another attack, which we foiled. However, the other camp was led by k. S. M. Because he had been in the united states. The people who agree with him were those that had been to the united states. That we would come for them and come for them very, very hard. And they would suffer extreme consequences as a result of that. They were setback as a result of the united states going to afghanistan. Its indisputable. They were diminished as an organization. The problem we have is going forward because we now have the taliban who enabled 911 with the alquaida In Charge of afghanistan and likely will become an epicenter of terrorism, particularly for the alquaida and for isis going forward. That has increased the risk going forward. Thats indisputable. The director of the cia said as much himself. Martha yeah. The chairman of joint chiefs said that its accelerated timetable for the potential of another Terrorist Attack in the united states. We obviously really hope that that is not where this is headed but we need to be mindful of the way that were perceived based on what happened in afghanistan. Thanks, general. Lets go to Peter Doocy and listen in on the questioning of Jen Psaki right now. This and the Peoples Republic of china, when he talks to the president of china last night, did he press him like he said he was going to . Well, im not going to list every topic discussed. That was a dramatic entry to that answer. Ill start again. Im not going to go into every list of every topic discussed. They discussed a range of issues including covid19 and understanding the origins is a primary concern for this administration. We continue to support Phase 2 of the w. H. O. Investigation in china and calling on china to allow further studies of covid19 origins in china. I will also note that, you know, one of the topics the president also discussed is the importance of being able to have private discussions between the two leaders. This is in contrast to some of the other interactions weve had at lower levels with the p. R. C. So yes, it was a topic raised but im not going to go into further details. So we should understand that to mean that the president did ask him to let international investigators in to get the information that he says china has . And we have conveyed that publicly. They but its public. This is a Topic Weve said many times. I dont have more on the call. Why is it youre trying to require anybody with a Job Or Anybody that goes to school to get the Covid19 Vaccine but youre not requiring of that migrants that continue walking a cross the southern border in to the country . Well, look, our objective is to get as many people vaccinated across the country as humanly possible. So the President S Announcement Yesterday was an effort to empower businesses to give businesses the tools to protect their Work Forces. Thats what we did. Certainly we want everybody to get vaccinated and more people are vaccinated whether theyre migrants or whether they are workers, protects more people in the united states. But its a requirement for people at a business with more than 100 people but its not a requirement for migrants at the southern border. Why . Thats correct. Go ahead. Employers that refuse the Vaccine Rules are subject to fines. Martha clearly theres a different rule for people who my great across the southern border than for people that go to the workplace every day who are being told that they dont have a choice about being vaccinated or not. So Peter Doocy, our white House Correspondent in the Briefing Room just moments ago as you saw live there. Coming up here, a retired firefighter who lost one of his brothers in the North Tower. Martha i had a great conversation with the founder of tunnel to towers, frank spiller. His brother was killed in the North Tower and he was the brother of the firefighter. And he lost two of his brothers that day, thomas and timothy haskell. They were killed within minutes of Each Other. Thomas was captain of ladder 31. He was 37 and the father of three. Timothy was 34. He rushed to the North Tower. His acts of bravery that day included carrying a man down to stairs to safety before he ran back up the stairs to try to help others that were up there. Their brother, ken, joins me now. Also was a firefighter. He was off duty that day but got in a truck and headed to new York City like so many of his firefighter brothers. 343 were lost on September 11th. Ken, thank you very much for being here. I know this must be always a tough day, right . It is. Its surreal to think that 20 years have passed. But for those that lost someone on 911, its with you every day. Not just on the anniversary. I remember all the good things my brother did and i appreciate the way you described them. Martha as you came in that day, obviously you understood that this was a really dire situation. What was going through your mind . Yeah, i remember right after the collapse to kurd, i turned to one of the guys, i said were all going to know somebody that just died. I thought how prophetic that that would be. Around 1 00, 2 00, i realized my brothers were working. There was so much to do, the task at hands, being a firefighter on that scene. I was focused on the job i was doing up until the moment that i did actually find out that they were there. Then i went home just to talk to my mom. Martha he had five kids in your family, right . Thats right. Martha you Lost Tommy and timmy. I look at your family, look at the pictures. Maybe we can put them up again. Three young daughters your brother had. How are they doing . Theyre doing well. Martha 20 years later. Were still close. We see Each Other all the time. We had a nice vacation at the jersey shore. Were dealing with it the best we can. Martha im curious what you think when you look back on the 20 years and think about how the fight was taken to afghanistan. And now, you know, we all we learned a lot about the taliban and alquaida. What goes through your mind when you see what is happening now . I was at the World Trade Center in 1993. I was a Police Officer then. I remember thinking that, you saw the incompetence of the terrorists then, getting a rested when they treat to get the deposit back on the Bomb Truck that they blew up. You thought that was an isolated incident. You hope that it would be anyway. I remember on September 11th, that was one thing on my mind is that i cant believe we got hit again. Obviously the amount of devastation was overwhelming. To see where we are now 20 years later as vulnerable as we were 20 years ago, its very upsetting. It upset as lot of 911 families. I have a relative who is a higher Ranker Officer in the special forces. Hes still active. I dont want to give away much information but i feel for them. He lost his brothers in his unit, members of his unit that were disfigured. They have to go back there. When you speak to them, theyre the consummate professionals. They say were going to do our job. They shouldnt have to be put at that risk for incompetence, political reasons. Thats one of the things that is so distressing to a lot of the 911 families today. Martha what will you do tomorrow . Well be involved with several memorials. One of the things we did in our town is create a memorial to five of the people from our area that were killed. So we have a Candlelight Vigil at the local High School there, the town of those five guys. Ill be at Burns Park in the morning and a Memorial Ceremony at 8 30. Being here, its opens up a lot of emotions for me. I havent been back in some time. But it brings you back to that day. You know, like i said, theyre with you every day. I think of them all the time. In addition to my brothers, i lost 20 friends. I try to be a good representative of what they did on that day. Just try to help other people. Just in the spirit of the way that those guys did when they lost their lives. Martha thank you for doing that. Thank you for helping people remember and keeping it fresh for the young people, i think, that were little kids like your nieces that lost obviously the most important person in their life. So it is its so important to do what youre doing and to make sure that people continue to remember the sacrifice. You lost timothy and thomas, your family. We remember them today with you. We thank you, ken, for being with us today. Means a lot. Thanks for having me. I appreciate it. Martha so like heros from World War ii, many young men and women watch the towers fall and they showed up at their Recruiting Centers and said send me. Youre going to meet two of them next. Mm. [ clicks tongue ] i dont know. I think they look good, man. Mm, smooth. Uh, they are a little tight. Like, too tight . Might just need to break em in a little bit. You dont want em too loose. For those who were born to ride theres progressive. With 24 7 roadside assistance. Okay. Think im gonna wear these home. Excellent choice. Oh, i had never seen a picture of her with 24until i got onsistance. Ancestry. It was like touching the past. My great aunt signed up to serve in the Union Army as a field nurse. My great grandmother started a legacy of education in my family. Didnt know she ran for state office. Ended up opening her own restaurant in san francisco. Paralee wharton elder, lupe gonzalez, mary sawyers, margaret ross. Theres a lot of life that she lived. Who are the strong women in your family . We did it again. Verizon has been named americas most reliable network by rootmetrics. And our customers rated us 1 for Network Quality in america according to j. D. Power. Just didnt feel like things were as sharp as i knew they once were. I heard about prevagen and then i started taking it about two years now. Started noticing things a little sharper, a little clearer. I feel like its kept me on my game. Im able to remember things. Id say give it a try. Prevagen. Healthier brain. Better life. Martha so the events of september 11s compelled these next two guests, two native new yorkers to enlist in the united States Navy in the immediate aftermath. Petty Officer Sanchez says that he remembers being in High School in new York City that morning. The Fire Alarms started to go off and help and his classmates ran outside to a Parking Lot where they saw black smoke billowing from the towers. Petty Officer Jack Diaz says that there was sadness that hung over his high School Graduation because of all the empty chairs that were there to honor Family Members that were killed in the attack. Officers sanchez and diaz join me now from downtown manhattan. Thanks for your service to both of you and thanks for being here today. You know, let me start with you, officer diaz. You talked about the fact that you used to deliver pizzas as a kid to the World Trade Center. Youve not been back here since, right . Sense you enlisted after High School. Talk to me about that. You knew the building well is the point, right . You delivered pizzas for your dad . I did. I did, martha. I delivered pizzas when i was in during Summer Break before High School started my last year. Martha tell me what its like to be back and see the memorial . I so not been to the memorial until yesterday. That gave me many mixed emotions. The most important of all was it gave me the feeling of why i did what i did, why i joined. Helps me get closure. Thats how i closed the chapter in my navy career. Martha Officer Sanchez, talk to us about what you experienced that young day as a teenager and what it moved you to do. Well, maam, being when i was in the middle of the spanish class, it was surreal. Mrs. Cole, our teacher, said the Fire Alarm just rang. Everybody needs to go outside and stand by. Well give further guidance. As soon as i go outside and looking at the black smoke, we couldnt believe what was going on. My twin brother, we were looking at Each Other in disbelief. You know, we were asking, did this just happen . For me, looking at that, made me more patriotic that i wanted to be more in the military and do something to help our country in times of need. Martha so you just you signed up then. What was that like for you . Well, my brother and i, we decided hey, we have to do something. Just, you know, we wasnt going to take no for an answer. We went to the only thing we could do, go to the Recruiting Station and talk to our Navy Recruiter and tell them hey, this is what we want to do. We want to join to serve our country. People just made tons of copies of pictures and put them all over the walls of the subways and around this neighborhood searching for their Loved Ones. You were called to action. This that moment, something real, something shifted at Ground Zero and it was resolve and went through the nation. Changed the feeling of the people on the pile, at Ground Zero that afternoon. The consequences werent going to be just felt in new york but those who had launched this attack were going to suffer the consequences. He used that moment to give everybody what they needed to hear, right . Absolutely. You heard the thousands of people. They had been there night and day, since the morning of September 11th. They were tired and angry. They needed a leader. That morning, when the President Spoke, we had a leader. We needed that. Martha you gave them the assurance an so did mayor guliani that was a pivotal person that day, that it was going to be received well, that they werent going to they didnt want to disrupt what was going on here. Absolutely. The president was very conscious of the efforts at that point still to save lives and of the emotion. But i think ill never forget. Driving from the heliport with the president across the Ground Zero. The streets were lining with thousands of people from every walk of life, every race, every nationality holding signs saying we love you, god bless america. Go get them.
