He and his family just returned to afghanistan this summer and they were some of the last people to get out of that country before it fell to the taliban. Doctor, thanks for joining us. My pleasure. Bret i want you to tell the folks whether a it was like trying to get out and your efforts to get to that plane to get out of the country. It was truthfully emotional and physical it trauma to come out from afghanistan. We attempt several times several days and we stopped in front of the Airport Gate for couple of days. Bret now when you hear folks there in afghanistan say thAt The taliban is different now and thAt They are somehow going to act differently, from your experience, whether a do you think . What i experienced with myself and for my family, we do not find any big changes on their behavior, on their attitude and on their mission. So it is my understanding from my visit In Kabul and met some of them in a short time. When they captured kabul, me and other people who used to work as human Rights Activist and work in media, work with government become concerned for their life and for their family. Even we received this message thAt They have in the meantime, there is a lot of evidence they start home searching and the most people from their home. We face a challenges and front gate of the airport by beating, pushing by taliban soldier. Bret yeah. You still have family there . Yes. I have my family and my inlaw family. My Wifes Family are there. Are you trying to get them out . What i heard from them the situation become worse from different dimension people locked down in the bank. They cannot get money from bank. And many more political situation. Bret i want to get your feelings how we got out of there how do you see that . And whats your message for the administration . In my believe it was not good decision or wise decision to immediately leave the country. It happened ultimately. We dont have any message to talk about a past talk about future of Afghan City and who are at risk. Its f. Its not one person its 5 Million afghans faced with a lot of challenges, Poverty Basic Human Rights and many more problems exist in that country. Bret yeah. And obviously you are still working to get your family out. One last thing. I saw thiS Picture of your son mustafa you said he was dealing with trauma after everything you saw on the ground in afghanistan and trying to get out. He is a musician and you got him a piano to help him out. Has that helped him come to grips with everything . When we heard thAt The taliban capture kabul, we hide piano in a safe because its forbidden based on taliban policy and No One allowed to have music in public or play or listen to music. And my daughter Sit It in front of me, the other children looked to them to her and children scream when they saw will situation. It was very tragic and traumatic situation for children. So only we help my son with hiS Piano because he have to be with music. We have symptoms of he nightmare. Mood disorder. This still exists. Bret dr. Aria, we appreciate your time. When it comes to masking though, what we are seeing in the polling is that most parents are okay with the idea of their child or people who are working in the schools, teachers and otherwise putting a mask on. I think the big challenge ahead of us though is as we are starting to see children who come down with covid, who then have to be quarantined, it not only impacts the schools, but it impacts the parents who then have their schedules once again up in the air like we saw back in 2020, unable to potentially go back to work or to keep the schedule thAt They have been planning on. I mean, i think one way to think about this, the Masking Stuff At ThiS Point im kind of exhausted by the topic in the sense that im both antimask Ophelia And Mask owe phobia. Where masks are appropriate wear masks, and dont be a jerk who do things differently than you. More broadly there is a lot of data come in. One of the points i try to makes a a conservative about Public Policy is complexity is a subsidy. The people with the resources that allow them to get around problems are going to get around problems. And we have now seen something like A Million families just pull their kids out of school. You know, millions of hours of lost learning that are going on here. Disproportionately affecting people who dont have access to high Speed Internet who really need schools to be able to go to their jobs. And it feels to me that its worth Keeping Schools open even if you have to amp up the mitigation on other fronts.
