Certainly the shooter, whoever was involved in that, has to be somewhat obviously concerned that the victim has survived a gunshot to the head. His testimony or what hes going to say now to the police means everything to this entire investigation. Im sure the cops have already talked to him. Keep in mind, he is likely under medication so anything he says at this point is inadmitable but its certainly providing leads to detectives. Jillian if he saw this persons face, the vehicle, all that sort Of information, if the vehicle had been following him. When all Of us read details about this situation, we were like my goodness, you automatically think about the Flat Tire and your brain goes to what a coincidence or not. What do you thinker about that . Think about that 1234. As a homicide investigator, right away you think to yourself that Flat Tire is no accident. When someone is talking another person for murder, they dont follow them around waiting for their car to have a failure. They make the failure happen and they stack the deck. Thats what Homicide Detectives will be looking at. At some point prior to the tire going flat, it was while they were moving or while the car was stopped, so the investigators will look where the car was last stopped, was anyone around it, was there any video around it and also keep in mind that the Suspect Vehicle was following the victims vehicle while thats happening along the roadway. So police between cameras and License Plate readers around cities, towns, some highway systems, will use all that data to track him. There is no doubt about it, the Flat Tire in my opinion was no accident. Jillian lets pull up the timeline here. They this is a quite complicated situation that does go back years, starting in Of-2015'>July Of 2015 where there was a 19yearold named Steven Smith found dead. No arrests were made there. March 13th, the body Of Mallory Beach was found one week after a Boat Crash where Paul Murdaugh was indicted on felony charges. Pauls case was bound for trial. Alex discovers his son, paul and his wife, maggie, fatally shot at the family Hunting Lodge a few months ago, June 7th Of 2021. Then June 23rd investigators say they are reviewing that 2015 death that we talked about Of Steven Smith based on new information that had been gathered. That leads us to September 4th where alex is shot in the head while changing a car tire. I mean, this whole situation as i mentioned is extremely mysterious, very complicated, and Officials have remained pretty tightlipped on this. We havent heard much. I assume thats on purpose. Absolutely on purpose. This is not your typical Homicide Investigation and theres certain facts and circumstances that are known only to the suspects and victims involved. Theyre going to keep those facts and circumstances see considerate. They dont want to let those out. Dont be disturbed the fact that police are not saying anything in this. This is a real who done it. The less information they put out, the better it is for their investigation. You think maybe the jobs would want to tell the General Public theres a killer at large and they need to be careful Of that or need to be worried or be concerned. The fact is, they could face targets at this point. They dont gain anything. Its obvious to anyone watching it. You have to look at what the cops arent saying, what are the police not saying . When you hear the squad talking like that, saying theyre going to shut it down, how does that make you feel on a personal level . . Lynn, well start with you. They need to go to afghanistan to try to figure out and run their country because let me tell you something, a lot Of american families was hurt over this Off'>Keystone LayOff and i can tell you right now, they dont have a clue how many families was hurt over all Of this. So they need to go somewhere else. They need to leave our jobs alone and they need to go stick their nose somewhere else besides the pipeline. Ashley and neil, thats my second question, you know, kind Of Piggy Backing Off Of that. So what does the squad know about the pipeline and not only that, but how many jobs it supports and families that it supports . I dont think they know a whole lot about what theyre talking about. I think its important for people to understand why these pipelines are being built in the first place and thats because theres a demand for the product and these lawmakers and opponents seem to think by limiting the supply that theyre going to he reduce the demand when theyre actually only thing theyre doing is raising the cost to the consumers. Ashley okay. And lynn, this is basically a question for both Of you. Do you think that bidens i guess silence on this, is there any chance that maybe hes thinking, well, what happened with the Keystone Xl Pipeline, thats not what he wants to see with this Minnesota Pipeline . I would just like to say, you know, a lot Of these opponents Of these pipelines, they argue things about how theyre destroying our Drinking Water and pipelines actually do the opposite. The pipelines provide the power that we use to purify our Drinking Water. The 15th century, you walk down to your local creek and fill a bucket full Of water. 80 Of this country lives in major cities and Water A has to be purified and pipelines provide the power that we need. Ashley you heard Jen Sack heye Jen Psaki say this time and time again, they promise green jobs for people that lost their jobs on the Keystone Xl Pipeline. Has there been any movement on that . We were talking in the commercial break because i really wanted to try to understand this a little better the fact that you were saying at this point in the year we should be seeing these numbers Of crossers trailing Off in the end Of the year. You said that Rule Book is no longer here. That is thrown out the window. Can you explain. Yes. We are in completely unprecedented territory july went into the book 212,000 apprehensions and encounters at the southwest border. July, august, and september traditionally lower months Of activity. Seeing unprecedented crush Of humanity come to this border right now. I expect august will be similar territory it will be record. July was 21 Year Record the department has never seen anything as big as we are seeing right now. And we may be in Record Territory as it relates to the entire history Of our u. S. Mexico border. Jillian truly unbelievable. Not just migrants coming across. Its the drugs, too. Take a look at these numbers. The weight Of fentanyl seized at the border. And as you can see here this is in pounds. Look at this. This is up nearly double from just a year ago and nearly triple from two years ago. You are talking more than 8500 pounds Of fentanyl seized at the border. This is not just a Border Problem then. This is a problem for every community in the united states, correct . Correct. Because those drugs dont stay at the border in places like rgb or in laredo or del rio. Those are being trafficked all over the united states. You know, those gangs, those drugs are being sold in communities across the united states and so when you have i was at the border a couple weeks ago, when you have 40 Of the workforce doing something else besides patrolling the border, that means you are going to get more chaos and more Struggle Smuggling and human trafficking. Children are going to be exploited. Children in the pipeline are in danger. Again, that stuff doesnt stay at the border it goes throughout the united states. And so when you have this kind Of flow, distracted Border Patrol, who are trained to patrol the border not kids and comfort for families, thats the result youre going to have. Im grateful for the cbp Officers who stopped that load Of fentanyl because that stuff is dangerous in very, very small quantities. The more Of that that they can do the better Off we are. But at this blow, its unending we will have more challenges at the border. More challenges like that throughout the homeland. Jillian oh, yeah. They are trying to do their jobs the Border Patrol agents and up against being assaulted themselves. We have a number Of examples on wednesday five people were arrested after an agent was assaulted by a smuggler and another example that happened in the overnight hours on saturday this was around 3 15 in the morning. Lets go ahead and pull up this quote here from u. S. Customs and Border Protection and this reads the agent was attempting to apprehend approximately 12 to 15 migrants. The smuggler struck out at the Agent Slot in the wall hitting the waiting a large object believed to be a twobyfour board. Can you tell me what they are up against as they are trying to do their job on a daily basis . That is the work that they do. These highly trained Law Enforcement Officers are prepared to face those kinds Of risks. But, yeah. You can see that the ruthlessness Of smugglers and people who are trying to evade arrest, they are willing to assault an agent to come into the country. So, they need to be prepared. We need to support them why need to make sure that they have the tools that they have that they need to do their jobs, and in a case like this. You would hope that the u. S. Attorneys Office in San Diego will prosecute that smuggler for the assault on that agent. Thats an important aspect Of this, right . We want to close the loop and make sure people are held to account for the lawlessness that could occur on the border. Jillian absolutely.
