People realized Last Night they couldnt make it further. They went through the flood, car stalled out or in some cases in the case i have a sister who lives nearby. She had somebody with another vehicle come to her rescue. These are horrific. Bill we just came on this image in bridgeport, pennsylvania, the northwestern side of philadelphia. Well see how it goes throughout the day. Some of the images, sandra, It Hit at Rush Hour which put more people in peril. Outside At The time which led to more issues for many. As we mentioned, nine dead and this is the same storm that hit New Orleans about a week ago at a category 4 strength. Well watch this. Sun us up in the northeast, amazing blue skies. The sooner we get the water out the better. Screen right is from queens, New York Last Night On Board a city bus. There were two images that were filed from inside this bus. Its a river, right . But there is another image well see in a little bit here and queue it up for you. The person on the bus takes the phone, turns it around and the bus is filled with water. It was a boat At That boat. Here it is with the woman who captured that from Last Night. Many of these towns are without power. A lot of Rescue Efforts will be more difficult. Weve seen full buses having to be evacuated with kids on Board And Rescue boats coming out. It is a messy situation still this morning. Ida prompting states of emergency across the Tristate Area. Rainfall knocking out the entire new York Subway system. Shocking images of what is happening below ground forcing the city to declare an overnight travel ban. Bill Monster Tornadoes in new Jersey And Maryland leaving homes flattened. First Bryan Llenas reporting from queens in new York City. Bryan, hello. Bill and sandra good morning. At least eight people died in the historic Rainfall And Flooding in new York City. This is jamaica, queens. In this home behind me two people died, a mother and her son, 22yearold And 43yearold woman. You can see their belongings here. The homeowner tells us the water got up two feet up and started gushing into that apartment where a fourth member of the family were staying. The mother and other son went to get belonings and died. This is use the horrific toll that were seeing from The Storm. The videos from new York City Last Night are incredible. We know that 10 miles away from here three others died in a home in queens including a 2yearold Boy. Show you more videos. National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Emergency the first time In The Citys history. It washed into the underground Subway Systems and forcing the nations largest Subway System to completely Shut Down. 6 to 10 inches of rain in the span of several hours. This morning the subway is extremely limited and the amtrak between philadelphia and boston has been Shut Down. New York Citys mayor declared a State Of Emergency as Floodwaters Sub urged local streets and vehicles. There are dozens of abandoned vehicles on roads and major highways. Video shows City Buses flooded as well. The city has issued a Travel Advisory urging People Today to stay home and off of the roads. There were dozens of Water Rescues across the city Last Night. This morning First Responders were taking people out of homes by boat and a suburb just north of the city the governor of New Jersey issued a State Of Emergency in his state in south jersey, a tornado ripped through a community. New jersey saw up to a foot of Rain Fall in just a few hours leading to Flash Flooding in places like newark where a 70yearold man when his Familys Vehicle was submerged in the water. How quickly The Rain came down, it caused it caused havoc throughout the city. Certain areas In The City where The Streets were under six feet of water. Firefighters swimming as if they were in a river. Here is the problem now. You have the canalls and streams overflowing in Bridge Port, pennsylvania now. Water rescues are happening right now. People are stranded in their homes. Were continuing to see that in the Tristate Area. In new York City we expect the governor and the mayor to visit this home in queens as the cleanup and the morning begins for many of these families. Bill check in with you throughout the morning. Janice dean is tracking this. Its almost like Flash Flooding. Kind of what it amounts to. Good morning. Absolutely, Flash Flooding all night Last Night and we had over 3 inches and hour in Central Park. Record breaking Rainfall Totals across the Tristate Area. Here are some of the totals we have from the National Weather service. Close to 10 inches in pennsylvania, record breaking rainfall in newark, New Jersey, 8 1 2 inches there and Central Park 7. 9 inches in a matter of hours. Some of the images we are getting on Social Media of Staten Island and brooklyn, there was warning of this. We knew two days ago the potential for extreme Flooding And Tornadoes across heavily populated areas. We did our best to warn folks but it is up to your personal safety. How are you going to react to this . Will you be proactive and know whAt To do if there is a Watch Or Warning . I was headed to work this morning. I saw the roads were closed and water we couldnt travel through. We came back and ive been broadcasting from home. Thats what we have to do when we know the risk is there. Certainly it has unfolded. It doesnt take a hurricane or a tropical storm to cause massive amounts of destruction. This was an area of low pressure combined with a frontal boundary across the northeast and the tornadoes, big wedge tornadoes in New Jersey quite incredible doing lots of damage. National Weather Service will be in New Jersey outside of philadelphia as well as maryland where we had reports of ongoing tornado damage. The past 24 hours you see that wall of Water Lifting North and eastward. Still a little risk across northern new england. For the most part were done. However, rivers in some cases have not crested yet and still rising and why we still have Flash Flood watches and warnings in effect up and down the i95 corridor east, West And South of that. Well continue to watch for it. Prayers today for all those folks. Bill janice, the interesting thing about this is this is the same storm that went rolling through mississippi and tennessee and then pennsylvania and maryland. They didnt have the same effect because of this storm and the northeast did. New jersey and New York. There was a lot of dynamics going together to produce all of this heavy rainfall. We had a frontal boundary that was also in place. The same sort of atmospheric conditions that happened in tennessee a Week Half ago with 17 inchs a rainfall. This was a cat 4 now just an area of low pressure but all those atmospheric conditions came together to produce massive amounts of flooding and severe storms where we typically dont see that kind of weather up here. Bill well talk to you later this morning here as we get more information on whats coming up next. Thank you. A big part of The Storm is the tornadoes that ripped through New Jersey. Catastrophic tornadoes. Some of the homes that were ripped apart in New Jersey well see in a moment. This is bridgeport, pennsylvania, Northwest Philadelphia to give you an idea of how far reaching the damage from this storm is. The Flash Flooding, tornadoes, a lot of damage. Nine deaths so far. The sun just came up a little while ago here in the Tristate Area and were just starting to get a look at how bad it was. Bill hopefully short lived. The thing about the five look At This bus. You had a couple New Yorkers on board this bus Last Night and okay, At The front of the window is a river. There you have the back of the bus which as i mentioned a moment ago, it wasnt a bus, it was a boat sitting there in the middle of The Street. Bryan llenas, great reporting on the fatalities unfortunately with nine dead here and lets refly hope, sandra, the number stays At That. You wonder about electrocutions and people caught in traffic. Whether Car Accidents lead to this. Three people found in the home who had died as a result of The Storm. Why is something that really remains a mystery At The moment. Dana Janice Dean pointed out a lot of it was forecast. Whether or not people listened and changed their going home path Last Night as a result of it. This was new York Citys first National Weather service Flash Flood Emergency. The wettest hour ever in Central Park. You are talking about a lot of destruction. On the screen from the tornadoes that ripped through New Jersey, flooding in bridgeport, pa. Happening days after ida slammed the gulf coast. States of emergency in New York, New Jersey, new York City. Multiple deaths reported and still looking At The damage this morning. Bill updates in a moment. There is this from yesterday, roll it. Was the president pushing a false narrative in The Call with the afghan president . Im not going to go into details of a private conversation but what we saw over the course of the last few months is a collapse in leadership. That was Jen Psaki Yesterday refusing to confirm the contents of that leaked Phone Call between President Biden and former afghan president ghani. Peter doocy is live on the north lawn. A lot of reaction to what we heard in the Briefing Room yesterday. Officials here continue to say nobody predicted the taliban could take over afghanistan so quickly even though we see the transcript of The Call where President Biden told president ghani in july the taliban was a problem. Whether it was true or not ghani needed to make it seem like and create the impression they werent the problem. President biden made the decisions he did. State department is telling us that a majority of afghans who helped us during wartime are still in afghanistan. Are there more people who want to leave afghanistan . Absolutely. More people eligible for our program . Absolutely. Thats why were so focused on the diplomatic efforts that are being led by the State Department. Biden officials continue to claim they have tremendous economic leverage over the taliban even now with the closest american troops hundreds, if not thousands of miles away. Critics are wondering how the u. S. Could possibly still have leverage over a group the u. S. Supposedly doesnt negotiate with. We had leverage, sean. We gave it up. Thats a fact. Any fair minded person understands that. But there is an old expression, you cant talk yourself out of something you behaved yourself into. The administration behaved itself into this . They have a delicate assignment ahead to get americans and afghans helpers out. One of the generals said it was an emotional time. Im a professional soldier. I will contain my Pain And Anger and continue to execute my mission. President biden is set to deliver remarks about Hurricane Ida later on today. Nothing about afghanistan from him since tuesday as dozens of americans remain in kabul. Sandra. See if that changes today. Bill want to bring in dan crenshaw, former navy seal. Good morning to you. A couple of things i want to go through. Washington Post Reporting we left 100 governmentsponsored journalists behind, wow. All kinds of reporting out there from our correspondents At The pentagon and politico. Majority of the sivs did not get out. The brass came out to answer questions. They took a speech each and took a Grand Total of three questions. Here is one of them. Watch. I can tell you from personal experience thAt This is a ruthless group from the past and whether or not they change remains to be seen. Any possibility of coordination against Isis K . Its possible. I would not want to make any predictions. I would tell you that we are going to do everything we can to make sure we remain focused on isisk. Bill were you satisfied with that, sir . Well no. One of the questions that keeps getting asked is how are we going to deny terrorist Safe Havens now . Over the Horizon Ops you keep talking about are all nonsense. As a Guy Planning those kind of operations, Counter Terrorism operations throughout my career there is no such thing as these hollywood over the Horizon Ops. Look at every big mission that weve had thAt The public knows about for the last decade or so. Bin laden, soleimani, baghdadi. Everybody likes those. A lot of the people who think we shouldnt be anywhere in the world except on our own shores say see, we can just go do that kind of stuff and we dont have to have a forward presence . I suggest you figure out what you know what you are talking about. The only reason we were able to do those things because they were forward deplayed. Networks in Place And Intelligence collection and people on the ground forward stage so they could do those missions. We have no ability to do that anymore. No ability to keep americans safe. Here is what makes me mad about that Press Conference. Joe Biden Isnt at it. The Department Of Defense is trying to take orders. They are taking orders. Should they have pushed back more . I wish they had. Right now theyre taking orders and not throwing their boss under the bus when thats whAt They should be doing. Bill Nancy Pelosi has a Press Conference later today to talk about build back better. You can see the pivot thats already underway in this administration. I apologize were short on time. A lot of Breaking News. Hope you come back. Dan crenshaw, thank you. An out of Control Wildfire triggering new evacuations out west. The conditions crews are up against At This hour. Bill President Biden under fire for abandoning u. S. Sponsored journalists in afghanistan. A reporter who narrowly got out. Well talk about the dire situation for her stranded colleagues. The u. New Evacuation Warnings as that Caldor Fire bears down on Lake Tahoe. Some relief may be in sight. Winds tamper down. You need that. William La Jeunesse on his post south Lake Tahoe. What has changed in 24 hours, william . Its good news, bill. I want to give you perspective. The lake itself is 300 yards in that direction. South Lake Tahoe, a lot of resorts and businesses and thousands of cabins. The fire is three miles in that direction up heavenly mountain where the gondola starts. The Firefighters Goal is to keep that fire from coming down here. This town south Lake Tahoe is dependent on people visiting these areas. If we were to lose heavenly, it would be horrendous. So were going to do everything we can to keep the fire from getting into the cabins and keeping it from getting into the structures and the chair lifts. Were concerned about every aspect of the fire getting into the resources that people are dependent on for their livelihood. The firefighters made good progress yesterday. It only grew by 4,000 acres during the day. Containment increased to 23 . 20 helicopters, three tankers stopped the fire from entering christmas valley. They saved a Ski Resort and echo summit lodge. You know, they are setting a lot of backfires and firefighters are using fire is like a jigsaw puzzle. It will grow depending on the winds. The other thing is the concern is the lake itself. So you have dozens of Streams Feeding that. All these watersheds are fed from the natural forest. They want to keep the debris out of the lake from polluting it. The winds ended Last Night around 11 00 tonight. One firefighter got burns but they are treating him now. For the size of this fire 220,000 acres theyre doing really good. Back to you. Bill thank you. William La Jeunesse. Back in the northeast want to bring in a mayor from New Jersey. Can you hear us okay . Tell us about conditions At The moment and well get more details what happened overnight. Were presenting dealing with the aftermath of The Storm. We have 60 individuals in City Hall we evacuated because of their proximity to the river. We got them home. There are still a few streets that are flooded in our city. So were diverting traffic to alternate routes. Right now were beginning efforts to search for two individuals that havent been accounted for since we received reports they may have been swept into our brook and possibly into the river. So we have our Fire And Police and divers meeting right now to determine the best course of action in order to assess whether or not there are bodies there or not. Sandra were also getting word at least one person killed in the Flash Flooding there in your city. It was an elderly man in his 70s. He was riding in a vehicle that was overtaken by water. Are you seeing other scenes like this still this morning . What can you tell us about that man and the incident where he passed . He was in a vehicle with two Family Members. His wife and son. As a result of the heroic efforts of our Fire Department, the two Family Members were rescued. Unfortunately as you stated the car was overtaken by water and got to the point firefighters lives were at risk as they were trying to save this individual. Again unfortunately we lost this individual, tragic loss in our city. Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family and as you mentioned, we continue to assess situations around the city. Were looking for all the abandoned vehicles owners trying to match vehicles with passengers and owners. Well do this for the rest of the day. This morning as i mentioned earlier we had 60 individuals in City Hall and we go through the names of individuals that needed to be sheltered to see if they were owners of any of the vehicles. As of right now we only have one confirmed loss of life. Bill lets hope it stays there. Were looking at live pictures from Bridge Port and another City Northeast of where you are. Some of the aerial pictures. Does your city look like this city looks . Our city was under water Last Night. It devastated our area. We prepared on monday. We took all of the pragmatic steps you are supposed to take. We cleared our drains and had resources ready. Put barricades up. No one expected the impact of The Storm to be this bad. The intensity of The Rain, the amount of rain that occurred in such a short period of time resulted in these conditions that ended up tragically taking a life and many people being injured and displaced. By The Grace Of God and efforts of police and responders, it prevented more tragedies while people stayed home and watched these images. I think it had a huge impact disincentivizing people from going out in The Storm. Sandra our best to you as these Recovery Efforts continue and you assess the damage on the ground. Thank you for the update. Bill the river there is very high approaching what could be historic levels whAt Theyve seen in their lifetimes in that part of the country. Back in a moment in New Jersey. Also outside philly today. Sandra historic rainfall unleashing deadly flooding in the northeast and in new York City, parts of it waterlogged shutting down the entire Subway System. Well have another update on the conditions here coming up. Plus the botched afghanistan withdrawal leaving journalists stranded. One reporter who barely made it out in time will join us live next. Well keep a close eye on all the happenings with this storm. Bill one of the militarys top brass now saying we could one Day Partner with the taliban in the fight against isis. That stunning assessment from general Mark Milley amid reports the taliban going doortodoor killing some civilians. New video now. Also showing the group parading in The Streets of kandahar with a military equipment parade. Dozens and dozens of humvees, loaded down with taliban fighters for that parade. Trey yingst back in qatar to bring us up to date with the headlines today. Good morning. We have a little bit of good news. The qataris and turks are working to open the airport in kabul. They confirmed it today saying officials in doha are helping the taliban to get the airfield up and running again. It comes as the new rulers of afghanistan are continuing their victory lap. Yesterday in the second largest Afghan City Of Kandahar The Group held a Military Parade of u. S. Made equipment. One video showed a Helicopter Flying over dangling a taliban flag. Reports of plans for a massive ceremony At The president ial palace in kabul when the new government . Place. In the Capital Today taliban fighters held an Independence Day sal braition and in other parts of the country theyre executing military and political opponents as americans remain trapped in afghanistan and the pentagon is leaving open the door to working with the taliban to combAt Terrorism. Yesterday general Mark Milley told reporters it is possible they would work with the taliban to fight the remnants of isisk. They do remain in the country and there are numerous international players concerned about this trying to open Land Options for their citizens to flee afghanistan, a more risky option than that of flying out. Qatar will continue to play a very critical role in all of this trying to get those remaining americans out of the country along with vulnerable afghans. They have a unique leverage over the taliban thAt The biden administration simply does not have. Bill Trey Yingst back in doha today. Sandra President Biden facing backlash after his failure to He Vac Watt journalists from afghanistan. Hundreds of reporters and families remain stranded where they face threats of violence from the taliban on a daily basis. My next guest was fortunate to evacuate kabul last month. She is with Voice Of America and talks to us now. You were barely able to get out. What has life been like for you since you fled two weeks ago . I am safe but im in touch with the journalists who are still in kabul and in parts of afghanistan and many of them are in hiding. Many of them are hiding in the houses of relatives. Some hiding in their own houses and afraid of going out. Especially the ones who did television because their faces are recognizable. Women can cover their face but men its more difficult. They are trying to grow beards and trying to make changes to their appearances whenever they can but im in touch with almost all of them daily and they would like to get out soon. Sandra they were told they would be aided in getting out. The last american troop has left the ground there. Do they fear they will be able to evacuate at all . I mean, they are concerned. They dont want to be left behind. What i know from talking to multiple embassies and Media Organizations working in the region is that north american and European Organizations who still have people on the ground are still trying to find ways to get them out. They are still looking at multiple options including waiting for the Airport At Kabul to reopen or other Land Routes and they are just looking for whatever way they can to get these people out but yes, these people tell me almost daily they would like to get out as soon as possible. I message with them every morning asking for updates and when they will get out. Sandra quoting a journalist in kabul. It becomes a Black Hole as more journalists have fled like yourself. What is the future of journalism under taliban rule . What does it mean for telling the stories of these afghans who are left behind in the Country And Face this fear . If all journalists leave afghanistan it will be a big Black Hole. Even if there is some international media will pick it up. For now and again its a wait and see situation. For now international media is in kabul. We have bbc teams there and other media, several freelancers including americans working in kabul. The problem is the other provinces and other cities which dont have so much international media or even local media. I know that as taliban advanced around the country even local Media Journalists evacuated to kabul. Those parts are more of concern to me right now because kabul is still under the international spotlight. We no less about what is happening in other cities especially the smaller cities. Sandra when it comes to the americanfunded News Organizations and journalists left behind what do they think about this administration and the promise to get them out safely, not just them but their families as well and seeing it didnt happen before the deadline and before the last u. S. Troops left the ground. They were hoping that it would happen before the troops left the ground. They are still hoping they will be helped. I talk to them almost daily. They are still looking for help and saying we want to get out. So right now they are still in that mode where just looking for help. You know sandra are they in touch with the administration and can they reach them . I dont know if any of them have been in touch directly with the administration. I know a lot of the Media Organizations are in touch with the administration and so the journalists just want to know when they will get out. A lot of them told theyll be helped and they just want to make sure they arent forgotten and want to make sure the world doesnt move on and forget about them. Sandra absolutely. Thank you for joining us and keep us posted as more journalists try to get out. Bill so many, remarkable stories. Back to the flooding on the phone from bridgeport, pa is the mayor, mark barbe. You are in Montgomery County Suburb of philadelphia. The a. P. Has a line here that is stunning. The remnants of Hurricane Ida caused multiple fatalities in Montgomery County outside of philadelphia. Can you confirm that, mayor . I cant confirm it collectively only because i dont know the numbers in The County at large. We dont have any fatalities in bridgeport. We do have some probable. That may the case but were working hard to recover everyone. Unfortunately i dont have the figures for Montgomery County. Bill well wait on that information and hopefully it is not true. City officials there on thursday predicted, quote, historic flooding as the river levels continue to rise. What are your circumstances now, sir . Were still very much under water. Our front street, the lowest elevated point, weve evacuated at least 50 people from their homes on front street. We are working with Fire Companies throughout The County getting boats. Mission barbecue with getting meals out to those in the community. Being in small boroughs. Were connected to the community and theyre reaching us directly and calling us directly. Were working with everyone to make sure they get whAt They need. Bill we are looking At The Standing Water, smitty. Mayor, can you even get around your town or are you stuck because of the water . Im stuck unfortunately. Yes, everyone thats a lot of our situation depending on where you live. Sandra it is hard to prepare for something like this how can you . It reminds me of covid in that way, you just do the best you can in the moment. Bill we are reading about major flooding along the Schuykill River. Is that what youre dealing with . Yes. We are right along that river and that is absolutely where the water is the highest. Bill can you say youll break historical records because of this or no . We expect to. I cant confirm it definitively but my expectation is yes, these will be record numbers. Sandra what is your protocol now for residents that might be dealing with lack of Electricity Or Radio and they need help . Is your Emergency Services able to respond to calls At This moment . We have been. We have been. We feel very confident thAt Those who are in need of help have the access to get to us. If not a neighbor will let us know on their behalf. Were checking on one another. There is a lot of that going on as well. Right now were pretty much advising people not to travel and let us know if they need help. Bill we were talking to another mayor in a city well north of you in New Jersey an hour by car maybe further. But he told us they had ready to this by Draining Sewers and other protocols. What did your community do before . That sounds like a good idea. I dont know we did that. Its possible we may have. I know the Police Department didnt. We as a Police Department didnt make those efforts. Its possible but i dont know. Bill i know youre busy and have your hands full not just today but for days to come, what do you want us to understand about what you are going through now lean on your community. Im seeing more of thAt Than im seeing Anything Else. There is so much people. There are so many people advocating on behalf of their neighbors. It is so much of that and it is so important thAt There are so many people we would not be getting to and would not be receiving the assistance had it not been for a neighbor calling on their behalf. Check on your neighbor. Bill thank you, mayor. Good luck. Well check in later with you as well. Bridgeport, pa. Sandra neighbors helping neighbors. We got a tour of the Army Corps of engineers to get a birds Eye View of the hurricane damage. Casey stiegel is live in st. Francisville, louisiana. Hi, casey. Hi, good to see you. This was an exclusive invitation with the u. S. Army corps of engineers. Went up in a Blackhawk Helicopter Yesterday and flew to the hardest Hit Areas to show top brass with the u. S. Army corps of engineers who are in the region working, to let them see the damage firsthand. Theyve also been meeting with local leaders, State Officials and military counterparts. This aerial survey of louisianas hardesthit communities gives them a better perspective the work needed to be done, the equipment needed and best meet the needs of victims. Top priorities getting rid of Standing Water in many places. There are other places where we need to go south of New Orleans where well go in and cut a levee to help the water get back into the river and then well patch it up again. The destruction gets worse the further south we flew in that blackhawk. Grand isle and others with tremendous wind damage. Communities south of Lake Pontchartrain still contend with flooding. Were flying over the badly flooded area and these are the scenes right now. When you look out the window you see Standing Water. [[inaudible] but it will still be several more days before its out. A pretty surreal experience getting to see from that vantage point. It really puts the scope of this disaster in perspective. Sandra remarkable look At The damage there. Thank you. Bill . Back with covid headlines. Two fda officials resigning in anger after the White House allegedly got out in front of other plan to authorize Booster Shots for the vaccinated. Whats up with this . Dr. Marc siegel is breaking the story down. Whats up with the rest resignations and what is the rub here . The head of the Vaccine And Review division and she has been there over 20 years. A combination of things. The messaging is coming out of the White House and not out of the fda and also out of nih. Dr. Francis collins and fauci said we may have the vaccines for the 5 to 11yearolds in a couple of months. With boost steers the president said theyll get boosters in a month. Fda said wait, we havent reviewed the data yet. There is a lot of confusion there and finger pointing. My source former Deputy Commissioner Peter Pitt says that Janet Woodcock is under attack. Joe manchin accused her of presiding over the opioid epidemic. Her temporary status will run out. It is a mess for the administration right now. Bill confusing. Has delta leveled off in a way that was predicted, doctor, in a way that happened, i do believe in india and the u. K. At one point . It is starting to level off but over the last 24 hours there were 200,000 new cases. In the u. K. An upswing again. The good news that applies to the boosters, by The Way, where the squabbling occurred. In israel were seeing a study that shows 70 decrease in cases two weeks after getting the booster in israel. It is starting to look like even if the administration was ahead of their skis we may be heading for boosters in the next month or so and called it right. Good news coming out of israel boosters appear to do something dramatic. Bill our numbers were going up and seemed to hit a plateau. Are they still there now or they are going back up again but hospitalization numbers, what i look At The most, have plateaued at around 100,000 around the united states. Thats whats most important. Can our Hospitals Function . Can they see other paishents besides covid . How full are the icu . Ive talking to people in florida, alabama, mississippi, these states Got Hit really hard and theyre getting control of it in the hospitals. Thats improving. Thats a big improvement. Plus and most importantly huge Vaccine Uptick in those states is helping enormously to dampen the curve of delta. Bill Scott Gotlieb used to run the fda. He says get the vaccine, the immunity may not last so even if youve had covid, still get the vaccine. Does that make sense to you medically . Yes, completely i agree with scott on this and know him well. It is because all of this attention to natural immunity you know, bill, ive been talking about this for months and months. The government has been overlooking the power of natural immunity. The problem is we dont have strong data beyond six months. It varies from Person To person. What we do know is that if you get a shot of the Mrna Vaccine on top of that natural immunity you get a durable immunity with 10 times the amount of antibodies that you had without it. Its The Way to go if possible, at least One Shot. When they are talking about Vaccine Passports theyre making a mistake because they arent factoring in if you had covid and have antibodies to show you wont infect anyone. Bill they did a survey. 52 of the companies say they will mandate their employees to have the vaccine. What do you think of that . Well bill, ill tell you, im not against companies deciding they need to do whAt They need to do to stay open and safe. Im against the government doing that. Not against private businesses doing that. I would caution the point i just made. What about someone are you going to let somebody not come into your establishment who has immunity from having had covid or got One Shot and has partial immunity . How are you going to do that . Im not against the idea of everyone being vaccinated. I want everyone vaccinated and i want businesses to have control over that not the government. Bill interesting story crossed overnight. Bob boon, major League Baseball leading executive for the washington nationals, he resigned and walked away said im not going to get the shot. The team required it for him and he said no thanks. Well be tracking these stories and bring you back to talk more about that. Maybe frequent testing may be the answer to that point. Frequent testing for people who wont take the vaccine. Bill thank you, dr. Marc siegel, appreciate it. Man oh man, thats a subway in new York City at Rush Hour Last Night. You will never see an image like that. The remnants of Hurricane Ida now raging through the region bringing historic rain and deadly flooding and major disruptions to the roads and mass transit. Not over yet. Standing water from the overflowing rivers throughout pennsylvania and New York and beyond that. Welcome back here, ida has left deadly mark for so many. Im bill hemmer. Dana has the day off. Nice to have you back. Sandra good to see you. Im sandra smith. New Jersey Governor Phil murphy is setting out to tour some of the devastation. When that happens well bring it to you. It has been a horrific scene this morning. Youve seen it here in new York City, the flooding happening in the new York Subway systems. Thats completely Shut Down right now. Some of the devastation from the tornadoes that ripped through New Jersey shocked so many of those residents there to have that happen and Power Outages that are across the country right now, New Jersey about 100,000 without power, New York about 50,000, connecticut out of power, pennsylvania, there are a lot of folks that will have a hard time getting out of damaged homes especially when you lost power, Cant Drive a car through flooded areas. It is a horrific scene for so many. Bill for the confluence of events in New York and New Jersey this was as we pointed out Rush Hour. Everyone is On The Roads and the water starts rising. You dont want to drive through Standing Water and you alone come into Work Today saw how many cars on the side of the road . Sandra i think i saw over 100 stranded, abandoned cars. You go back to some of the mayors we talked to this morning saying theyre searching for the people who abandoned their cars. Where did they go . If you get out of your car because the flooding is so severe you either just went through and see it ahead and dont want to drive through it. We know of one story, an elderly man tried to go through the floodwaters and was swept away and killed as a result. Right now the search is on for a lot of folks deciding to ditch their vehicles. Sandra im 30 miles north of new York City and saw 100 cars and several pileups. Bill the post said were swamped in the northeast. Bryan, hello again. Bill and sandra, good morning. The governor of New York and Bill Deblasio are going to speak soon. They were multiple deaths in this torrential historic rainfall including two people here At This home, a Mother And Son who died when floodwaters came rushing into their Basement Apartment. You can see the gaping hole. The water was about waist high if not higher. 22yearold And 43yearold were in here. There was a family of four. The Mother And Son reportedly went back to unplug things and grab stuff and it was too late. You can see some of the stuff and the debris here. This is the whole block is like this as people are now Cleaning Up and coming to grips with really what happened Last Night. It happened so quick within a matter of minutes the Flash Flood that kept people from being able to grab their stuff and get out. 2yearold Boy 10 miles away from here in queens, New York as well. The National Weather service issuing a Flood Emergency for the first time In The City. The entire Subway System Shut Down completely Last Night and there is a Travel Advisory now warning people to stay off the roads if you dont need to be there. This is an ongoing situation particularly in New Jersey where the rivers are cresting still into the afternoon which means widespread flooding is still a possibility. We know that one death, that 70yearold man but theyre searching for at least two others. There are reports of multiple other deaths as this water as rising quickly Last Night. Again were talking about, bill and sandra, 10 to 11 inches and a foot of rain in the matter of several hours. Well know more coming up. Bill you had Tropical Storm Henri go through here just a few weeks ago. Sandra the Record Downpour we experienced In The City Last Night, it just broke the record from a few weeks ago, last week i should say from henri. That record was 1. 9, Last Night 3. 15 inches. Incredible, david lee. What is also incredible now is yes, The Storm is over, sandra, but the Pain And Suffering is not. It will continue for some time to come. Look behind Me And You can see The Street that runs adjacent to the river. It has overrun its banks and trying to salvage some of the cars that are at least partially submerged. Another disturbing sign as we look over here you can see the Sewer Drain and the water is now backing up through the sewage system. So this is an ongoing problem that is only getting worse this morning and it is not expected to really be resolved for what could be several days. As we heard Bryan Llenas report at least nine deaths if New York and New Jersey. New jersey has been especially hard hit. Several rivers from overrun their banks and caused massive nraongd. One death in passaic, possibly others. Firefighters tried to rescue the October Pantsz of a submerged car. Two saved, one swept away. They had more than 8 inches of rain during The Storm. The flooding was worse than superstorm sandy. Statewide there was flooding at newark airport. Veteran facility. One hospital, countless homes and as youve been talking about with bill, countless cars abandoned along the side of the road with many streets impassable. Doortodoor evacuations are taking place in trenton as the Delaware River overruns its banks. Some of The Streets were so impassable there were six feet of water in some locations in passaic. In new York City alone the situation very dire as many as eight deaths there. Major roadways were impossible. Subways were flooded, dozens of planes stuck on the tarmac at Jfk Airport and lastly as we were talking about power, more than 100,000 in just New York, New Jersey, pennsylvania customers without electricity. As were told some of the rivers arent expected to crest for what could be a few more days. Sandra. Sandra he referenced back over the 100 cars i feel i witnessed coming in stranded on the side of the highways. I dont think ive seen anything like that. The news doesnt stop hurricanes and blizzards weve seen a lot. I feel like ive never seen it before and were left wondering where the people went. My sister chose to get out of her car coming home from work Last Night. Sedan, she feared she wouldnt be able to make it through the floodwaters, that was a case where somebody was preventive measure. I dont know how many people went through floods and couldnt make it any farther. Bill its not a commute you expect. Kathy hochel is the new governor of New York. President biden facing harsh criticism from an unlikely source over that botched exit from kabul. His own White House staff. Administration official telling politico they were appalled and literally horrified. Thats a quote. That americans have been left behind. Jackie heinrich live At The White House to start her day with us. Good morning. Good morning, bill. The State Department has begun its Afteraction Review of issues getting americans and refugees out. One State Department official told fox that you were haunted by choices they had to make and people they were unable to help, among them the translator who rescued President Biden when his helicopter went down in 2008. He was on Fox Friends this morning by phone. Hello, president. Do not forget me and my family. At the moment in afghanistan just giving him a hello and telling him, do not let me and my family behind. Thats okay. The White House maintains Nobody Saw the Taliban Takeover Coming as quickly as it did. The leaked Phone Call between president ghani and President Biden from July 23 Shows Biden was at least aware of the public appearance it could happen. Afghan president ghani told Biden The Country was facing an invasion. The president said ghani needed to project an image of strength. I need not tell you the perception around the world and parts of afghanistan i believe are things are not going well in terms of the fight against the taliban and there is a need, whether it is true or not, there is a need to project a different picture. Was the president in any way pushing a false narrative in that call with the afghan president . I think its pretty clear. I wont go into details of a private conversation but what we saw over the course of the last few months is a collapse in leadership. WhAt The president has conveyed is you need to stand up and lead your country. Members of congress have a lot of questions. The answer how they will be able to fight back even though they werent winning then. Now we are getting reports it could be true that President Biden pressured him to give a false impression that could have been giving congress a wrong impression. Well see the president this morning for remarks on Hurricane Ida. Dont know if he will take any questions. Sandra State Department tasked with bringing Home Hundreds Of Americans and all aisles left behind in afghanistan. It is unclear whAt There plan is to get them out from the talibancontrolled country. Griff jenkins is live At The State Department as we await to learn more. Good morning. It is not just taliban control, it is also Isis Infested and with the Kabul Airport closed the dangerous ground routes are really the only option At This point as the State Department wont say exactly if any american has gotten out since the last flight out of kabul. Now, youve still got the 100 to 200 americans and Tens Of Thousands of afghan allies including the majority of Siv Applicants those left behind including the interpreter we just heard from jackie, mohammed. Talking how he is pleading with the president to save him and his familys life. Meanwhile yesterday americans stranded, the plan is unclear. I was able to speak yesterday At The briefing with the State Department spokesman ned price pressing him a little bit about exactly how now americans or afghan allies will get out. He said there wasnt just one plan but they are crafting many. Specific individuals in afghanistan to include american citizens and others who may have recently decided they wished to leave the country or were unable to leave the country during the evacuation or might decide tomorrow, next month, next year they wish to leave the country they will receive specific tailored messages from us as we develop and start to operationalize these plans. The State Department has a dual message. Now resettling and vetting the refugees amid growing concerns that individuals or isis elements could slip through the cracks. Now, sandra, well see the Secretary Of State blinken at Dulles Airport late this afternoon. A major Arrival Point for the refugees. Not clear whether or not he will be speaking but certainly another part of the story. Sandra we have not heard from him too much or that much throughout this debacle. Griff, thank you. Bill State Department revealing most of the afghans who worked for the united States Mill Taefr and applied for special visas to get out have been left behind. Matt griffin, welcome to our program and good morning to you. We have spoken many times over the past 2 1 2 weeks. What did you think of the Pentagon Brass finally speaking yesterday, each one took time to deliver a speech and took a Grand Total of three questions. What did you think of that . I think all of their speeches are just a Copy Paste rearranged of their previous speeches and burning up the clock and not answering the Questions Everybody needs to hear. We get hundreds of emails every day from Siv Applicants that are now trapped and have no way out. It is disappointing and disheartening. 100 governmentsponsored journalists were left behind and 500 Family Members. Theyre still there as well. Here was dan crenshaw, veteran himself last hour on the whole Pentagon Thing that went down yesterday. Watch. The Department Of Defense is just trying to take orders, to be honest with everybody. Theyre taking orders. Should they have pushed back more . I wish they had. Right now theyre taking orders and not throwing their boss under the boss. Bill the Boss Isnt taking any questions, either. Weve seen thAt Time and again. Here is the story. The White House is boasting about this airlift which was an emergency that you could argue was of their own making. And you had 122,000 people evacuated. Amazing thAt The u. S. Military was able to put thAt Together but of the 122,000, only 8500 were part of the special visa afghans helping us. Only 7 . How do you rate that . The math doesnt make sense to us. Weve been in this minute by minute and have an entire team monitoring things. We have american citizens 50 yards outside the gate and they had to fill out a State Department form and that had to be cleared by somebody there and farmed back to somebody in the united states for approval before somebody can fetch them outside the wire or meet them At The gate. The through put doesnt make sense. Im a Systems Evening engineer. A lot of planes didnt leave as full as they said they were. The numbers made zero sense to us given the amount of information we were getting and requests were getting from afghanistan right now. Bill august is over and later today, if the schedule holds, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will hold a Press Conference on the build back better program. Do you see this administration shifting away from afghanistan and trying to get the trillions of dollars theyre proposing to get passed . I think they are just going to try to get the american public to forget. Football season is almost here and they will continue eating up the clock on every speech and continue using the sacrifice of the Marines Loss there to eat up more of the clock which is disheartening to the military community. I am betting well forget. Thats what i think theyre trying to do right now. Bill well be here. Matt griffin. Thank you for coming back. 17 past the hour. You want to hear kind of whAt The feeling of freedom sounds like . Earlier today we were on the air and in touch with a woman i want to play this for you. She is safe and she is okay here in the u. S. And this is how she talked about it. I cant tell you the moment how i felt when i was able to hug my children because i wasnt sure if i was going to see them again. And that was the best moment of my life. I am still sad and heartbroken for the people who were left behind and i do have some questions for our president. The first one is what has happened to the Deadline Extension . Thats how freedom feels. We wanted to share that with you. Sandra serious questions the narrative President Biden was pushing. You go back to the Phone Call with biden and ghani. Psaki did not deny the conversation did happen. Lets go to Governor Murphy in New Jersey giving updates on The Storm damage. If you want to get a sense of how it could have been and as Steve Sweeney said if you look at other side of the path of this you have houses to the left and right which are largely intact, if not completely intact and yet you have houses right in the path that are destroyed. Up north the story was less tornadoes but overwhelming flooding. And largely the big roads are open, although 78 and 280 are still works in progress. And there are a lot of off ramps and other Road Challenges that we still have before us, but it was largely a storm with tornadoes being the big story in the South And Flooding being the big story in the central and northern part of the state. This is going to take us some time to dig out of, no question about it. I want to just say on behalf of all of us we are going to stay here and be by the side of the residents and Small Businesses that have been impacted so severely. You barely if you are a Small Business youre barely getting on your feet from a pandemic and you get whacked by this and you ask yourself rightfully life is not so fair sometimes. But i promise we will stay with everybody and it wont be a short road but well stay with them on that road to recovery. I just got off which is why im a few minutes late with the Fema Administrator chris well. I said to her and she has been terrific and her team has been terrific well send in a major Disaster Declaration Request today. I will speak shortly with the president and reiterate that and thank him for his support and help. And that will be a Game Changer if thats accorded in terms of our ability to get individuals, families, businesses, and our Infrastructure And Cleanup back to where it should be. Transit is a Work In Progress on the Rail And Bus side. Somewhat depending on where you are in the state versus the Atlanta City Line has been clear sailing which is good news. Thats not a case for most every other line in the central and northern part of the state. As i mentioned, the highways a Work In Progress. The Parkway And Turnpike are wide open north to south and thats good. A couple of challenges on the interstates and off ramp issues that will take time to fix. We have had fatalities. We have had them in the central and northern part of the state. Please keep those folks in your prayers and as we get more specificity on that well let you know. Sadly, more than a few folks have passed as a result of this. I think thats it as a general matter other than well stay At This as long as it takes. I will likely be doing some more stops later this afternoon, probably in central and northern part of the state and those will be largely getting a handle on the flooding impact there. Again, we keep all of the victims, both individuals, families, Small Businesses on Main Street in your prayers and we will stand by the sides of everybody who has been impacted by this in New Jersey until we get back on our feet. I guess i would close with a pretty obvious statement but the world is changing, right . These storms are coming if more frequently. Steve and i were on the phone on this topic. Coming in more frequently and with more intensity and as it relates to our Infrastructure And Resilience and mindset, playbook we use, we have got to leap forward and get out ahead of this. Any Infrastructure Money a lot will be put into resilient infrastructure. Thats exactly what you need when you are the most densely populated state in the nation with our extraordinary location, second to none. I think any amount of investment we can make in the years ahead in resilient infrastructure will be investment to help us. If we have to deal with things going forward in the years ahead. Anybody want to Add Anything . Thank you governor for being here. Steve, the legislative team for New Jersey and commissioners and everyone. Im looking across The Street and that could be any of our closets. The shoes are there. Behind me a Swing Set that children could have been playing on. The fact that people were not killed or seriously injured is just amazing. When we look At This and we were in washington Last Night monitoring. We were in session until 3 00 this morning. We jumped on the train and i got stopped in delaware because we couldnt get to philadelphia and above as you know. This is a problem thats going on. But we never had tornadoes of this nature when we grew up. Occasionally a small one. What we see behind here is change and you mentioned the infrastructure. Thats exactly what were working on. Luckily well bring that done and bring the muchneeded resources to what we have today. Fema, we spoke with them. This storm was supposed to go out to see by North Carolina and south carolina. As we go into Labor Day weekend i want to say thank you to all those who labored to help the people behind us. Whether you are the Utility Or Electricity and neighbor helping them pull out. Thats what makes New Jersey a great state. We help each other in times of need. Well need more help. If youre having trouble give our office a call, certainly the legislators, certainly we want to be there throughout. I want to start with thanking the First Responders. They come out to the Front Line of defense and do a hell of a job for us and put their own safety at risk. The county is outstanding the coordination. Everyone helping things work. I was talking to the mayor and the governor Last Night. I asked him for some help. Help came Last Night. Because we have a lot of trees down. You are seeing Property Damage here, as you travel through this county it looks like a Bomb Hit in some places. Getting the trees cleaned up is critically important. Governor, i want to say thank you for stepping up once again to help the citizens of this county and state. Look, anybody who is a global Warming Denier Look at what is going on around. You might have had an occasional storm and it wasnt anything. These things are getting stronger and there is more damage. We have to do something. Its too late now. Governor, thank you. Thank you, steve. For families waiting for the fema funds, is there State Funds . How do they get help right now . Well be putting up a whole lot of information on where people should either go websites or calls or Phone Numbers to go to and it will be a combination of state, federal and third parties like the Red Cross and depend whether you have a structure like this versus whether its water damage, etc. I want to reiterate before we take a couple of questions the points these guys just made. In particular First Responders. I was in a room this morning At The statewide Traffic Management System with the Colonel And Dan and nobody in that room i slept a couple of hours. Lou, i suspect you didnt sleep much Last Night. Nobody in the room had slept. The electric team to dep, county, bob, to you and your colleagues At The county, the state police, the local teams, oem, cant thank you enough. Im the board of directors. We have all these cameras here, easiest way to get out to people. Anyone affected by this storm in Gloucester County the Red Cross is set up At The Gloucester County institute of technology and will serve you. Thank you, everyone get that . We have a lot of cameras and lets take advantage. Do you and the legislature, the speaker have started a fairly ambitious course against climate change. Does this youve said several times theyre becoming more intense, The Storms, more frequent. Does it suggest to you we need to accelerate the efforts that are already underway . Unequivocally yes. I dont know where donald went. The federal Infrastructure Bill that is being debated, god willing voted on sooner than later, should say bills. You have two different buckets there. Any amount of that will be of huge help toward our efforts. I want to make sure this isnt i believe this may be the president. I will just take this and make sure. I think i missed that. The answer is unequivocally yes. I assume you all would agree. State and federal. But there is only we will put State Resources into this as we have done and will continue to do but the Game Changer here is the feds and the work that were doing with federal dollars. We talked to some victims in the neighborhood. They said the alert they got from the Weather Service came quick enough to get to their basement and saved their lives. Flood emergencies for up north. Yet a lot of people were trapped in their cars and died in their cars. Dont know how many Water Rescues there were. Is there a way to improve to get people off these roads when these Flash Flood emergencies are issued before the inevitable happens . Thats a great question. We had this very conversation this morning. Thank god the alerts worked in this case. As bad as the damage is behind us im told that family was in the house, they went to the basement and theyre alive. You said you went to the basement. People did the right thing. This is a personal opinion. Im not sure. Well look At This. Im not sure if it is a difference of the alerts. The alerts went out. I got them on my phone. People hear Flooding And Tornado and i think perhaps they put them into a different category and sadly we cant do that. People paid with their lives as a result of that yesterday. But we will look At The entire system. There were too many cars On The Road and too many cars thank god most were abandoned and people got out safely. That was not the case for everyone sadly. For the mayor. [inaudible] sure. This is an unprecedented event for us locally and even regionally. I was impressed when i arrived At The Fire Hall and office of Emergency Management at 6 45. At thAt Time there were four of us. I watched the process coordinated by The County. I want to give The County their due, and thats The Way it is supposed to work. Everything is coordinated through The County. I watched It Crystallize in front of my eyes over the next 30, 40, 50, 60 minutes and everything was coordinated. Nothing was dispatched. We had people filling the room ready to work. Thats the other part of this. The support from our neighboring communities and from individuals just showing up in the middle At That point a torrential rainstorm after the tornado left and filling our firehouse ready to be dispatched but not doing anything based on the local Oem Directive that we have to hear from The County first. They did a stellar job. Thank god and only by The Grace Of God was there no loss of life or serious injury during the first hour and 90 minutes. When we got through thAt The coordination was like Clockwork And Something to behold. I was just watching it all happen. Incredible. Where we go from here is its a focus on our residents and their Health And Wellbeing first of all and therefore if there is a sheltering need or any type of support thats coming to us in spades where we are just getting so many offers for that. That will be our focus and we have that coordinated locally from a Township Perspective and homes and the damage to them and the digging out, Cleaning Up and rebuilding and look, thats where americans, people from New Jersey, come together and we saw it Last Night and seeing it now. Everybody supports one another. The help will be there. Well clean up, well dig out and rebuild. I want to make one final comment. The governor i cannot thank enough the fact thAt The level of support from all levels of government. I got my congressman from a different district. I have my district legislative district representatives here and Senate President Sweeney and the governor comes down. That support is incredible. But At The end of the day whAt The governor said it is residential impact and business impact. Locally we were lucky enough that not many of our businesses were physically impacted. However, the last comment i want to make a put a light on it. We had our Farming Community affected. And that is they are the foundational pillar of where we are and have been for generations. One farm is gone. He had his Farming Community family50 plus cows were told At This point they have lost as much as 100 of those cows. It is devastating to that business and to that culture. We want i want everybody to keep them in your thoughts and prayers now. Bill well said. You make a very important point. Its farms here and then if you go into the central part of the state, northern part of the state its Main Street businesses. I saw a video of mill bourn, a raging river in town and the Small Businesses are crushed and farms are crushed and homes all over the state. Take one more. The commissioner was down in [inaudible] senator helped set it up and asking for storm litigation. He left without committing anything. He is doing a lot in fairness, the d. E. P. Put out a big report with the Army Corps of engineers, a preliminary report but a Big One as it relates to resiliency against storms. That is more focused on the shore. The shore largely came through Last Night okay. Most of what were dealing with bill thats what happening in New Jersey. A town is 20 miles south of philadelphia and where thAt Tornado ripped through. While that was happening in elizabeth, New Jersey, northeastern or eastern part of the state around newark they report five people dead in a home in elizabeth, New Jersey, which would bring the Death Toll from ida in the northeast to at least 14 if you add the others that we lost here. Sandra a lot of the deaths from flooding are happening in basements in new York City. All eight people who died died in flooded basements influencing a family, 50yearold man, 48yearold Woman and 2yearold Boy. Their child. They were found dead in their home in queens as we learn about more tragic stories from this brutal storm. Bill the water came in. Many could not get out. Another Breaking News story. Governor will brief in a moment in New York. Want to take you to a place called farmington, connecticut near the capitol of hartford. It is happening now and we have the first images in. A Plane Crash earlier today into a building in farmington. Police confirming according to the a. P. The accident did not immediately provide any details about the size of the plane, who was on it, whether there were injuries or where they were going or whether they were landing or taking off. They are evacuating the air hyde road. Wanted to share that with you and come back to New York with the governor. Good morning. Want to thank the individuals who joined us here this morning. Senator schumer, mayor Bill Deblasio, congressman meeks, our president Jonathan Richards and the Borough President. A devastating storm that shocked the people of the city and even the morning after were still uncovering the true depths of the loss. The human loss, which is hard to imagine that people simply in their cars, in their homes and their basements succumbed to the ravages of a brutal storm. To all the families we offer our love, our condolences and our wishes for their healing and well be there to support them. This is all precipitated by Last Nights recordshattering rainfall. What is so fascinating the records that were broken in Central Park, for example, 3. 15 inches in one hour, it broke a Record Set one week earlier. That says to me thAt There are no more cataclysmic unforseeable events. We need to be prepared for these in advance. We learned a lot of lessons from sandy. We built back resiliency, coastal shower lines are in better shape they had been. Where we have a vulnerability is in our streets with the higher elevations now, with the Flash Floods that were unknown before. This is the first time weve had a Flash Flood event of this proportion In The City of New York and in the outlying areas. We havent experienced this before. We should expect it the next time and that means we have to continue investments in Infrastructure Working in partnership with the federal Government And Support from Senators Schumer and President Biden who are working so hard to get the Infrastructure Dollars back to our states so we can build this up. Working in partnership with the mayor and other officials to work collaboratively and get this done so we can take care of the Drainage Shortcomings in our streets. When The Streets get flooded what happens next . The water rushes down and finds its way to penetrate the Subway System. As a result what happened yesterday trains were Shut Down, people were stranded, the fear thAt They must have experienced when this occurred i cannot imagine. I dont want this to happen again. So what were doing is preparation we directed all of our State Resources to be prepared, our d. O. T. , freeway authority, mta, port authority, all of our First Responders embedded with the local teams and throughout Long Island, Nassau And Putnam we wanted to make sure our crews were on the ground. We have Pumping Systems taking care of the subways removing the water physically. I want to thank everyone who was involved Last Night but our Transit Workers are heroes. Especially all the Bus Operators who had to be deployed to literally take people from stations to where they needed to go. It was an extraordinary Rescue Operation just a few short hours ago. Moments ago i was on the phone with the White House, President Biden called offered any assistance. He repeated any assistance the state of New York needs. I told him well take him up on that. What happens next well be doing on the ground assessments of the damage with the fema teams and get a true accounting of the loss. He promised that he will guarantee, he said i guarantee you will i approve any declaration you need, Emergency Declaration so we can get the money flowing to New York, to our municipalities and cities and citizens, the businesses affected and certainly to the homeowners. Also with respect to the homeowners who have experienced the flooding in their own basement ive directed the department of financial services to be in contact immediately Wl Insurance providers so they get people on ground. Show up in the neighborhoods, get your claims adjusters, let them start filing to get reimbursed for the damages. We have mobile units on the ground to send as well. We still have a limited services on the subway. Ill be heading out to Long Island to see damage out there shortly. Metro north, lair and Subway Systems arent fully functioning At This time. Have people follow the information and stay safe. I want to conclude by saying once again New Yorkers show whAt Theyre made out of. The collaboration and constant communication between our teams is something you perhaps you dont see in the public and it helps save lives. I want to thank our partners At The State Level. State police and rescue teams. They had to rescue over 100 people in Westchester And Rockland county alone. This is the scenario as we speak today. I will give continuing reports. What i want to do first is assess where we are today. My next question is where are we going next . How do we prevent this from happening and get money and resources to the places we can build up the resiliency in streets before we worried about the coastal areas, now what is happening in The Streets. Drainage systems that need to be enhanced and the resilience. Because of climate change, unfortunately this is something well have to deal with with great regularity and assure all New Yorkers were prepared and do everything we can in our power to protect Human Life and property. With that i would like to introduce Senator Schumer, very engaged. We spoke this morning already. Thank him for his partnership. Thank you, governor. First my condolences and heart and prayers to all of the families who have lost loved ones. Imagine the horror of sitting in your own Basement Apartment and the water just floods in all of a sudden with no notice and you struggle to get out but you cant. Its an awful, awful situation. Our hearts go out to them. I, too, want to thank all of our New Yorkers At The city and State Level as well as the other low kalts. The one thing weve learned through the emergencies in the last decade is how strong New Yorkers are and how much our public servants want to go all out and risk their lives to preserve other peoples lives and we thank them. I want to make two points here. Number one, we will do everything we can to get all of the federal aid that is needed. We did this after sandy. Weve done it after many other storms. Upstate the governor knows when we worked together on these storms upstate. And i spoke this morning to Fema Administrator, the good news is you know what her job was before she was Fema Administrator . The citys oem commissioner. So she knows New York well. We will fight and make this make New York declared a disaster area, spoken to the White House as well. And that will mean money. Money for homeowners and individuals, money for Small Businesses that may have been lost, and money to our city, state and other local governments for the amount of Money Theyve had to lay out to deal with this crisis. And i will make sure as i have in the past that no stone is left unturned and all of the federal government, we know when a disaster hits one area the whole country comes together and helps. And thats what we will ask here for New York just as we are helping in california with the fires and out west with fires. It relates to my second and final point. Global warming is upon us. When you get two record Rain Falls in a week it is not just coincidence. When you get all the changes that we have seen in weather, thats not a coincidence. Global warming is upon us and it will get worse and worse and worse unless we do something about it. And thats why it is so imperative to pass the two bills, the Infrastructure Bill and the budget reconciliation bill. The second deals with climate change and will reduce the amount of carbon we put in the atmosphere by 50 by 2030. The first bill deals with infrastructure and built into that infrastructure is something i started fostering with sandy. We dont just build Infrastructure But Resilience infrastructure so when floods or fires or Anything Else occurs theyre much more resistant. You saw results of that from the sandy money. We need more of it. Woe is us if we dont recognize these changes are due to climate change. Woe is us if we dont do something about it quickly. Both in building Resilience Infrastructure and going to clean power, whether its in homes, in electricity, in transportation to stop the global warming or at least reduce its awful effects on this country. I want to thank the governor for being here right on the spot. I want to thank the mayor, he is always available. Our Borough President and greg meeks and everyone who is here. Now its my honor to call on mayor deblasio. Thank you, senator. Senator schumer is right. Were in a whole New World now. Lets be blunt about it. We saw a horrifying storm Last Night. Unlike anything we have seen before. And this is the reality we have to face. Unfortunately, the price paid by some New Yorkers was horrible and tragic. We have now lost nine New Yorkers to this storm. Nine people who were alive At This exact moment yesterday. No idea that such a horrible fate could befall them. Families in mourning now. We need to be there for them and for all the New Yorkers dealing with the results of this storm. Senator schumer will get us the maximum federal aid. Homeowners and Business Owners need it. People are going through hell right now and need help. I thank President Biden and Senator Schumer for helping. We spoke this morning. Thank you for your leadership and The Way the state of New York responded. We are truly all in this together and storms affect all of us. But what weve got to recognize is the suddenness, the brutality of storms now. It is different. A Record Set two weeks ago, another Record Set now. Rainfall like we havent seen ever before. This is the biggest Wakeup Call we could possibly get. We will have to do a lot of things differently and quickly. But what is a constant is our First Responders. I want to thank the men and women of the ems, nypd, environmental protections. All the agencies out in force Last Night rescuing hundreds and hundreds of New Yorkers. So many lives were saved because of the fast courageous response of our First Responders. People helped out of a car and the subway. It happened hundreds of times Last Night. God bless our First Responders who were there. Got a lot of work to do right now to help New Yorkers recover. But we also have a lot of work to do to change the very approach. I agree with the governor. It is time for an entirely different approach because we are getting a signal here. It is not going to be easy. Well need all the help possible from the federal government. But in our time we have to make this change. Weve gotten the message we have to make a change to protect the lives of the people of this city. Thank you and now i would like to call on someone who has been tremendously helpful and make sure we get help in the City Congress Member gregory meeks. Let me give my condolences to the Family Members, to the friends, relatives, the neighbors on this block who have to be devastated. One day its a beautiful day and we know that in queens neighborhoods are families. Block associations, working together. Neighbors protecting neighbors homes. This is absolutely devastating. And my heart reaches out to each and every one on this block and in this family. A mother, a son gone from us because of climate change and these record storms. Storms that were once in 500 years im told. Now that we have to look At Them to be storms that come in a regular manner, more intense as indicated. So i want to thank i spoke to Speaker Pelosi to make sure that we work very closely with Senator Schumer so there is no separation between the house and the senate. I think all of the members of the united States Congress and bringing the resources here to the city of New York. Let me thank the mayor and the governor for their working on this instantly. Bill it turns political quite quickly. Didnt take long to put the focus on quote, unquote climate change in New York. In the meantime were dealing with at least 14 people who have died between New York and New Jersey based on the reporting were getting now. So well watch it let you know what happens here. Meantime we have the story in connecticut. Roll it smitty. Well talk about it. Farmington, connecticut. A small Plane Crash into a building near hartford. It happened around 10 00 a. M. Local time. 53 minutes ago. We dont know a lot, whether it was taking off or landing or who was on board or how many. Sandra we dont know the size of the plane. Police confirmed it happened. It appears they are confirming it as an accident. We have no idea the size of the plane and do not know if there are any injuries At This time. But they had to evacuate the area where the accident occurred and still asking people to stay away. This is central connecticut about 10 Miles Southwest of the State Capital of hartford. Were getting some images which did include, bill, plumes of black smoke and local witnesses on the ground say Theyve Seen Pieces of debris, part of a fuselage. But this is just the early stages. Bill two more bits that might give us clues. Apparently the location is only several hundred feet from a small airport in the town of plainville. The airport is called Robertson Airport so its possible this plane was coming in or taking off from that local airport as opposed to hartford several miles away. Witness at a nearby company telling the local affiliate wtic television thAt They heard a loud explosion and ran out to see the smoke outside. Sandra we are also told that firefighters are still on the scene where you can see the black smoke coming from the building there. They say there is a charred side of the building where the Plane Hit and the firefighters are currently extinguishing the fire and pouring water on the building. Bill one more note from the witness he saw pieces of debris, including what happened to be part of a fuselage in the roadway and what may have been the Planes Tail protruding from the building. Thats how the a. P. Is writing it up right now. Whether they had an issue in the air clearly or whether or not this breakup of the plane happened upon impact or even prior to that is something we dont know. Sandra this happened apparently the crash happened just before 10 00 a. M. In farmington. We got word of the Plane Crash we wondered if it happened during The Storm. That doesnt appear to be the case. Interesting tidbit, a small Plane Crashed in the very same area in 2017. One person had minor injuries from that crash. So we can tell you what we know At This time. Bill same place. Sandra according to this in the same area in 2017. Bill thats happening in connecticut and really a lot of our news has been centered in the northeast with regard to The Storm, new Jersey And Pennsylvania and New York. With us by telephone now is mayor pete osheller. You do. Youre in phoenixville. Tell us where it is and what youre dealing with. Were right outside of philadelphia 45 minutes. It has been a very challenging evening for us. We are right on the Schuykill River that flooded and we had significant flooding from the french quick. Some of the major areas and historic downtown have been impacted from flooding and a lot of residents trying to clear out trees and empty out flooded basements. Sandra these are shocking images that continue to come in. Tell us a little bit about how the residents are faring in that area. Flooded basements, abandoned cars. What are stories you are hearing now . Absolutely. Its challenging. The office of Emergency Management has been incredible and theyre all volunteers. Our Fire Department and Water Rescue have been out all night. A big shoutout to our First Responders. Out all night trying to get people stuck in cars trying to keep abandoned vehicles safe. It has been a really challenging time for all of our residents. Fortunately weve been able to keep many people safe but we had a number of residents from Philadelphia And Other Places in the region who got stuck here. Bill one point were making. If you arent from the northeast, the timing was really bad because it is 4 00, 5 00, its 6 00 and rush however. Was that your experience . Absolutely. It was Rush Hour and it happened so quickly that people were just going about their normal lives and going about their business and suddenly they were stuck in places they never anticipated to be stuck in. A lot of small back roads and a lot of trees. A lot of historic roads and buildings which just added to that mess. Sandra our best to you and the residents of your town. We wish you the absolute best as you try to recover from this. Hoping for safety of those all involved and still trying to get out of what is clearly just a mess across the Tristate Area in multiple states dealing with this now. Bill as we wait on more news on this two things happening here. You have the Flash Flooding that comes in. The water comes with it and then oftentimes it quickly leaves and weve seen that in other parts of the country. Houston, texas comes to mind immediately. Lowlying area where you get Flash Flooding and it stays On The Roadways and it dissipates. What janice was telling us two hours ago there are a number of rivers in this area that could continue to rise. If thats the case well be dealing with this for several days before you see the water go down. Sandra its what weve seen from state and local leadership telling people if you dont have to leave your house remain at home. Stay in place because some of these rescue vehicles need access to the roadways and waterways to get people out of dangers way. Bill were at a count of 14 fatalities between New York and New Jersey. We hope they dont go any higher. Thanks for making us part of your day. Back again tomorrow and well see what we get. Sandra more coverage on america reports at 1 00. See you back here tomorrow. Julie fox news alert. Historic flooding paralyzing the mid atlantic and claiming the lives of at least 9 people. Im judy banderas. Thank you for joining us. In Pennsylvania Rest highways and a baggage claim area and sparking a tornado that caused widespread Damage And Power ouge
