Reporter we are about 14 hours from the storm made landfall we still have a hurricane on deck i keep looking over to see if any changes to downgrade the wind still 75 mileperhour sustained wind and that happens because it came im sure so strong that is the strongest storm we have ever had to make landfall in the us during recordkeeping time and that is by wind not necessarily by lower pressure or meteorological definition so that ties by the way with Hurricane Laura that Made Landfall Southwestern Louisiana Last year two years and were on in a Row Category storms Making Landfall very unfortunate for louisiana it came on land that Port Fourchon 183 miles per hour Grand Isle just east at 146 so where it came on sure at Port Fourchon is about 16 percent of the Countrys Oil Production coming through their obviously all of these oil rigs 16 percent goes through that spot and it fortifies that to withstand Hurricane Conditions so it will be interesting to see what happens to make sure everything is okay and then that is the worst of the Storm Surge and because of that , that will have wiped out anything on stilts most of evacuated but it will be a while before they can get in there im sure by Tomorrow Afternoon to fly over there and get a sense of the damage and pictures coming in from. We will continue to see the storms pull up eventually further into the east for places like pensacola well see some big storms but as long as he have the motion we will see the Storm Surge that is continue to be pulled in and not allow that to drain back down so we will have raising Water Levels again so to take you through the other things noticed right now have a moisture to the north of Lake Pontchartrain and then the Mississippi River that is where all the Levee Systems are going on but what you will notice the rain for the most part is over may be a a few bands can move through but for the most part the Heavy Rain is done and they will be lessening which is good news so that said going to the North Side of Lake Punch a train some cases falling two or 3 inches per hour and then go again up to the east michael, Biloxi Towards Mobile is that a very Heavy Rain to continue right now. This came on sure at Port Fourchon anywhere to the right of that Grand Isle or Plaquemines Parish where the Mississippi River exits to the golf a lot of water being pushed up into the river this is the worst of the Storm Surge we havent seen many from that area so that is this storm. No katrina came a little bit different it came up across Plaquemines Parish and then made landfall in mississippi so that had 30 feet of Storm Surge wiped out the mississippian part of the Alabama Coastline Everything there was fully flattened i went there one year later there was just labs where the homes had been but just Concrete Slabs and nothing else was left it was all washed away. But in that case but that counterclockwise motion pushed all of the water across Lake Pontchartrain and back towards New Orleans. And the levees were not sure that and that Levee Failure is what then allowed all the water in Lake Punch a train to drain because the levees have failed you cannot get the water out of their. That is outside of the Levee System of New Orleans. So the floodgate was very serious water is rushing up highway 23 are also earlier in the evening we had some information that water had overtopped the levee. So Theres Trouble in documents period. Also in the earlier in the evening a number of barges got loose the report is one Barge Hit a bridge and have made impassable we dont know the extent of damage. But nobody can cross it therefore leaving between 30400 people stranded on the other side of the bridge according to the mayor. And those to rescue those people that the conditions were too bad we havent had an update since that time to see if those rescues are underway but we know a number of people are trapped as far as the damage here in New Orleans all of the power is out so it comes to recovering you know there are 1 Million people without power in the greater Louisiana Area all of New Orleans is without Power Power Cruiser at the ready but when they start working out when The Sun comes up they will have a very big job ahead of them. You are talking about the floodgate that failed. Did they expect that to withstand or did they say . Obviously they expected the floodgate to withstand the incoming water but they knew it would be under a great deal of pressure.
