What all is going to come from this is something we will be tracking. But a hurricane, possibly a Tropical Storm, jon, and it will be Making Land Fall tomorrow. Today warned people not to travel to Kabul Airport because of, quote, potential Security Threats from the islamic state terror group. We begin at the White House with Breaking News about the State Department being hit by A Cyberattack, the story you saw first on fox. Jackie, whats going on . Thats right. Im told the attack on the State Department has not impacted the departments ongoing efforts to evacuate americans and allied refugees in afghanistan. But we broke that news just a couple of hours ago. The State Department has been hit by A Cyberattack. Notifications were sent out from the Department Of Defense Cyber Command. It is unclear when this breach was discovered, but its believed to have happened a couple of weeks ago. Under federal law, when an agency determines a breach constitutes a major incident, they are required to notify congress within seven days. The extent of this breach, the investigation into who is behind it, any efforts taken to mitigate it, and any potential ongoing risk to State Department operations does remain unclear, not to suggest the State Department doesnt have that information, but they did not readily share it with me. A State Department spokesperson tells Fox The Department takes seriously its responsibility to safeguard its information and continuously take steps to ensure information is protected. For security reasons we are not in a position to discuss the Nature Or Scope of any alleged cybersecurity incidents at this time. Just this month, the Senate Homeland Security committee raided the State Departments overall Information Security Program a d, thats the lowest possible rating in the model, calling it ineffective, in four of five function areas. It says the department failed to Fix Vulnerabilities in a timely fashion, with tests of ten systems revealing 450 critical risk and 736 high risk outstanding vulnerabilities. The report notes in part, the Lead Agency for Foreign Policy at the State Department has a wealth of sensitive national security information, like names, birth dates, Social Security Numbers used for Visa And Passport vetting. On the national security side, states blue Lantern Program monitors technical data, Defense Services and brokering activities exported through commercial channels. The program is designed to minimize misappropriation of u. S. Defense articles. Congress has pushed the biden Administration Or Congress rather and the biden administration have both pushed to firm up defenses against cyberattacks at the State Department and other agencies. The State Department was one of nine federal agencies that was hit by the solar Winds Attack believed to have been perpetrated by russian hackers last year. We are awaiting more detail on exactly what occurred. We know notifications of a possible serious breach sent by Cyber Command about A Cyberattack at the State Department. Jon . Taliban fighters just outside. According to reports on the ground, firing into air, and a number of people injured today as the Press And Crush of people up against the wall where u. S. Soldiers are standing, continues. Now, today we did have an opportunity to speak with some of the evacuees who have made their way to doha, qatar. They said they are extremely happy they are in a safe location, but extremely worried and frustrated they had to leave their families behind. Here are five University Women we spoke with earlier today and what they had to say dont know whats going to happen because right now the taliban are trying to show a good faith, a good picture, but we know that outside the media, there are other things going on. People are scared the americans completely leave them, the taliban true colors are show. Thats why they are desperate to get out of afghanistan. I asked those women what was next for them. They didnt know. They dont know where they are headed. They dont know if their families are safe. But they are here, in qatar, where they are able to relax and at least have some time to reflect on such a tragic and difficult experience for all of them. Jon . Were fighting against both time and space, the race were in right now, and were trying to do this as quickly and safely as possible. Im not going to speculate about whether windows are closing or opening. Were focused on accomplishing this mission as fast as we can. Earlier today the u. S. Embassy in kabul issuing the following warning telling americans not to go to the airport. Officials say the warning is due to a new threat from the islamic state and other Terrorist Groups but declined to give details. Quote because of potential Security Threats outside of the gates of the Kabul Airport, we are advising u. S. Citizens to avoid travelling to the airport and to avoid Airport Gates at this time, unless you receive individual instructions from the u. S. Government representatives to do so. Just yesterday, President Biden aid the evacuation was going well and said americans are having no problems to get to the airport to escape. Law makers on Capitol Hill said Bidens Defense Secretary said some americans have been beaten up going to the airport. It was so dangerous that late friday it launched a Rescue Mission to grab 169 americans just 200 yards from the airport using three massive helicopters. Two days before kabul fell to the taliban, John Kirby said there was no imminent danger. Saturday he was pressed to admit he was wrong. In the moment that i said it, based on what we knew at the time, it was a true statement, and yes, two days later, things dramatically changed. I readily admit that. Things moved very very quickly, lucas. 17,000 people have been evacuated from afghanistan in the past week, including 2500 americans. Jon . Jon Lucas Tomlinson, thank you. Give us your take as you sit here tonight what do you think about the way that the administration handled the u. S. Drawdown of forces there . Well, jon, its unbelievable. This is just an unmitigated disaster. It is a disaster of our own making. When i say our, i mean the biden administration. They could have handled this A Thousand ways. I saw a four Star General talking the other day, made a great point, he said he could have given this job to any Junior Lieutenant he had on his staff and they would have done better planning this than our Top Brass at the pentagon and the State Department have done in this. It is unbelievable. We are in a position where we have 2500 out of potentially 15,000 american citizens that are stranded essentially Behind Enemy Lines with the Taliban And Isis roaming the streets looking to kill people. They are stranded there and essentially hostages. There are going to be some people who will die from this, from the president s inability to make a decision. We do not have a commanderinchief right now. We are in a Crisis Right now. It is a national crisis. It is a big national Security Issue for us. It is going to haunt us for years to come, with our reputation, and i fear it is going to get much worse before it gets better, jon. Im worried about what we going to see here. Jon one of the frustrations many americans have had with the administration is the inability for them to give straight answers. President biden said he was unaware of any americans who havent been able to get to the Kabul Airport, when in fact, there are dozens of cases that have come to the surface, and that is probably only a small fraction of those who would like to get there. Then there was this conflicting exchange, the president s assessment of the situation versus that of his pentagon spokesman. Listen. Lets put this thing in perspective here. What interest do we have in afghanistan at this point with Al Qaeda gone . Why did we have troops there for 20 years if theres no national interest in afghanistan . We had a significant interest in being afghanistan to our national security 20 years ago. You have heard the President Talk about this. The goal was to defeat, decimate Al Qaeda, also to prevent Al Qaeda from Launching Attacks on the homeland from afghanistan, and we did that. Jon we did that, yes, for 20 years, congressman, but what happens now . Al qaeda is back in afghanistan. Al qaeda is. There the talibans there. Al qaeda is there. The talibans there. Isis is there. There will be all kinds of terror groups that will gravitate to this area. We will see americans that will be held as hostages for ransom. We will see americans that will be killed because thats what these terrorists do. It is going to be horrible. I have citizens from my district that are trapped over there. I have a mother and three children that are trapped over there right now. Im not the only one. Im talking to congressmen and congresswomen in the republican conference all day long every day, scrambling to try to figure out how to get our citizens out there. There are people all over this country that are putting together flights with Extraction Teams and trying to get them over there, private citizens to do the job our Government Cant do. We have been struggling with that today too. You cant communicate with the State Department, with the Department Of Defense. You Cant Figure out if you get an aircraft and you have the money and the crew to get over there and pick some people up and get out of there, how do you get approval for them to fly in . It is unbelievable. It is complete chaos. This cyberattack, jon, the State Department cant afford for this to be happening right now. Was this coordinated . I know it happened a couple weeks ago. What information did they get . Did they get information on the special Immigration Visas . Do they have these peoples names now . Do they know the american citizens . God knows what information they got from this or how this will play out to continue to make the situation worse. The State Department, the Department Of Defense, and the biden administration have failed miserably, miserably, and when i say that, i want to point out that i absolutely respect the job that the american military is doing over there. It is not the Military Members that have failed. It is the leadership that has failed. Theyve failed the Military Members and failed this country. Bracing for Hurricane Henri, the category 1 storm is barrelling north, set to make landfall tomorrow, likely on new yorks Long Island, where evacuations are underway in some spots. We have fox Team Coverage. Alex hogan is live on Long Island, but we begin with Meteorologist Adam Klotz who is tracking the storm in the Fox Weather center. Adam . Adam hey, jon, the Storm Henri currently sitting a couple hundred miles off the coast of virginia with winds at 75 milesperhour. We could see this get up to 80 or 85 milesanhour overnight, moving to the northeast at 18 milesanhour. You start to notice some of those very front outer bands of Rain Beginning to work their way up along the new Jersey Coast and approaching Long Island. Things will deteriorate as we head through the overnight hours, but again, a landfall, and when we say landfall, were talking about the center of the storm. Thats probably coming closer to midday tomorrow, but by early in the morning, you are really going to notice things getting rough out there, so do think of early Sunday Morning as a time when things should deteriorate in a big way, even though you may begin to notice some rain overnight tonight. This is what it might look like, your center of Circulation Running over Long Island and then getting up into the Hudson Valley and slowing down a little bit. Thats where it becomes more of a rain issue. This is slow down and weaken rather quickly once it gets on land, but it will bring a lot of moisture with it, and i think flooding could continue to be a problem. As it moves that direction, it is going to bring a wall of water on the high end. Some of these storm surges, as high as five feet, but you see a very wide area here along Long Island, and then across southern New England where you will see two to four feet and three to five feet at some of the higher locations. And then i did mention of course that rain. You start to see some of these red thats going to be easily three to six inches, but there are definitely areas where we will see ten inches of rain. This is one possible Forecast Model. I will bring in another Forecast Model here, and you are seeing fairly similar location, so maybe new York City getting close to that, but not right on it. Those deep reds on Long Island getting up to 10 inches to a foot of rain. That could run up into the valley. I think flooding will be one of the major concerns with this, jon. Thats something that even though we talk about landfall in the morning, that could linger late into the day, even monday. Thats something we will watch. Jon Adam Klotz, our meteorologist, thank you. Long island is expected to take the brunt of the Storm And Landfall here touchdown, something thats not happened since 1985 in suffolk county. People are opening shelters not only for residents but also pets, urging everyone to evacuate, warning that the ferries to and from land to the island will not run tomorrow if they dont leave the island today, they will be stuck on the island. We dont know what kind of conditions they may face. Hurricane henri is expected to make landfall Sunday Morning in Long Island. The governors of northeastern states are urging their residents to make Family Arrangements and prepare for possibly dangerous impacts the state police will have approximately 1,000 personnel who will be on duty in the affected areas. Weve got 200 guard who have been activated doing everything we can to make sure the lines of communication are clear. We do have the potential for significant Power Outages across the commonwealth, and people should plan accordingly on that. And while the weather did cancel a major Bike Event in new York City, some Music Festivals are still going on, like The One here at Jones Beach, where 15,000 people are expected for the event that starts at 7 00 tonight. This is the tunnel to towers event. It is the concert that is called never forget. It begins in less than an hour. It pays tribute to those who died in 9 11, raising money to provide mortgagefree homes for Family Members of those who were fallen. Tragically he died this past monday, laid to rest yesterday. He worked out of the station here in the Rio Grande Valley. Border Patrol Hasnt officially stated his cause of death yet, but numerous sources within border tell me he died of complications from covid19. He was only 33 years old. Again, he died on monday. He had been with Border Patrol for 12 years since 09, was a Family Man as well. It just goes to highlight the ongoing risk our Border Agents are taking every single day out here as this surge continues. To that point, if we can pull up this Video Right here, we recently went on a ride along with La Jolla police. This is a tiny Police Department out here in the Rio Grande Valley. La jolla is one of the epicenters of the Rio Grande Valley because of tun finished border unfinished Border Wall in the area. The small municipal Police Departments have had to step up to the plate and do the job of the government at times because Border Patrol cant be out here everywhere at once. We rode along with the sergeant, nighttime, daytime, have to go down to the river, patrol for migrants just coming across the border. While we were that sergeant, there were Family Units coming across, Incluing A Woman who came with her young children and was in horrible health condition. She was severely dehydrated, needed a lot of help. That sergeant had to take her a Border Patrol processing area, potential saving her life. They know they see the help. Its its a sigh of relief for them, just to see the smile on their face. You saw it earlier when they were getting water from the unit, they were very grateful. This is a group of 173 migrants they have just apprehended, the biggest group they have seen since october of last year, this entire fiscal year. A lot of those children that we evacuated out came back and helped us in the northern alliance. And they are there today. Theyre tenacious fighters, and again, we cant we Cant Look at all afghanis as taliban, and we need to help them. In terms of what i would say to veterans is that we did what we needed to do.
