But it was incredibly unclear by what means he intends to do that and if it will involve american troops. President biden said he is considering Rescue Operations to recover americans and afghan allies stuck behind taliban checkpoints and seemed to open the door to using american troops. This Evacuation Mission is dangerous and involves risks to Armed Forces. I cannot promise what the final outcome will be and what it will bethat it will be without risk of loss. But as commanderinchief, i can assure you that i will mobilize every resource necessary. Fox news confirmed thursday the State Department was looking to nonmilitary ways to Reach Americans and allies stranded beyond the airport perimeter. And the President Said there is a reason troops havent been sent out yet. Its likely to draw an awful lot of unintended consequences. In terms of people who, in fact, are not part of the taliban. The president claims so far the deal with the taliban promising Safe Passage For Americans has been working. We have no indication that they havent been able to get In Kabul through the airport. Thats not what Defense Secretary Lloyd austin standing by the President S side when he made that statement told House Lawmakers on a call about a half hour later. Multiple lawmakers on The Call tell Fox Austin said there have, in fact, been reports of americans beaten by the taliban In Kabul. The president also claims there has been no challenge to americas credibility on The World stage. As a matter of fact, the exact opposite i have got. The exact opposite thing is we are acting with dispatch. We are acting, committing to what we said we would do. The u. K. s Daily Telegraph reads Parliament Model the president in contempt, condemning the dishonor of bidens withdrawal. Still, biden took responsibility for his decision admitting he took action based on what he called Consensus Opinion despite warnings, including the confidential State Department Dissent Cable in July Telling of a potential rapid collapse. Correspondent Benjamin Hall shows us tonight from london. The Kabul Airport is totally surrounded. Thousands of desperate people are begging to get, in begging for help, but it is overwhelmed. As you can see there is a lot of people here. We need support. I mean, we all need support. Please come help us. And this is what we should deserve after serving you guys for a while. Is still relying on the taliban to provide safe passage to the airport. But, with no idea how many americans are left in afghanistan, no idea how long the deal with the taliban will last, things are looking bleak. Taliban will kill You Becausage [inaudible] and you are a woman and you are working national tv. Outside kabul there is more brutality and oppression. Reports indicate the militants are summarily executing people who helped u. S. Forces. Despite this, a remarkable scene, Brave Afghans in several cities still defiantly carry afghan flags through The Street until the taliban opened fire and killed some of them, too. Of and we have heard from the State Department tonight that 11 countries have agreed to act as Transit Points flights leaving kabul that will really help with processing some of the people. Among them germany, denmark, uzbekistan, u. K. And turkey whether or not that can get people out in time that still remains to be seen. Bret . Bret Benjamin Hall live in london, thank you. We have no indication that they havent been able to get In Kabul through the airport. We have made an agreement with the taliban thus far. They have allowed them to go through. But we have the President Of The United States, the commanderinchief, saying no alqaeda in afghanistan. We have a Press Person saying well, theyre, they are there. But they are not as much of a threat since 2008. You got the President Saying that americans are getting through, no problem. You have the secretary of defense saying that they are getting beaten at taliban checkpoints and you have the commanderinchief saying our allies are saying no big deal. No problem. You have the british parliament, condemning the biden administration. And successor saying this is the biggest in natos history. I Cant Think of a time in modern history where we have looked more feckless and beat and im in touch with special Operation Range they are ready to go get our americans their hands are being tied behind their back by this White House. Bret i want you to take off your republican Congressman Hat that obviously politically hitting this administration and democrats are doing it, too. And i want you to put back on the Green Beret and say what do we need to do as military . Can they draw up a planned say, mr. President , this is what we need to do . What militarily do we need to do on the ground . Well, first of all, we need to get the force in place to go get our americans Behind Enemy Lines. Thousands that are Behind Enemy Lines and from a negotiation standpoint, you know, there just seems the fear of what the taliban will do or some type of escalation. We need to put the fear in them, period. Right . That its in their interest and not touch a hair on a single americans head. And guess what, taliban, we are coming in with force, if necessary, to get them out. We dont even know how many are inside kabul vs. Out in the hinder land. Hundred hinterland, taking bagram back Air Base East of kabul and making it clear that were going to be there as long as it takes to get every single american, No One left behind and our interpreters and their families. From the State Departments standpoint, bret, there are literally a dozen congressional offices that i know of with all hands on deck, congressional offices with their staff fighting through the bureaucracy to help people that have reached out [inaudible] these are people that stood with us. I Cant Think of any other immigrants that deserve to be there more than they do. And the State Department needs to streamline that process rapidly. Biden needs to take a step, a page from fordS Playbook. Administration to get the South Vietnamese out and put everything and every asset into it. Some of these tastes are alqaeda Big Wigs i tracked the presence of alqaeda and affiliated groups in 18 of afghanistans 34 provinces from November 2020 to april of 2021. In june the u. N. Security council reported that large numbers of alqaeda fighters and other foreign extremist elements aligned with the taliban are located in variouS Parts of afghanistan. In addition, a significant part of the leadership of alqaeda resides in afghanistan and pakistans border region. In the spring, the Defense Intelligence Agency reported that the taliban has maintained close ties with alqaeda. In january, the u. S. Treasury department reported that alqaeda is gaining strength in afghanistan while continuing to operate with the taliban under the talibanS Protection. Lastly, alqaeda capitalizes on its relationship with the taliban through its network of mentors and advisors who are embedded with the taliban providing advice, guidance and financial support. This is a guy who knows this stuff. You were on the ground in afghanistan. How can the President Say that alqaeda is gone . Again, either lying or clueless. Im not sure. But bidens own Intelligence Community briefed us, briefed the and said that alqaeda and the taliban are married at the hip. I am convinced i have been saying for years that if it happens alqaeda 3. 0 will come roaring back. It is heart breaking to see this on the eve of the 20th anniversary of 9 11. And when you ask people do you want the troops out of afghanistan . Of course the numbers are in the 70s, 80 . I want us out of afghanistan. Every veteran, everyone does. But when you ask the question do you want us out of afghanistan if it means alqaeda 3. 0, or 9 11, San Bern Teen Know and The American homeland is at risk . Should we stay on offense vs. Defense in the answer is very different. But thiS President didnt bother to explain the real choices to The American people. And, bret, we have just learned New Details after being told all day that u. S. Troops were not leaving the airport. Did not have permission to go and Rescue Americans Inside Kabul or outside of kabul. We have just learned from the Pentagon Press Secretary that three Chinook Helicopters carried out a Rescue Mission about 200 yards from the airport where 169 americans were stranded at a building. They rescued those 169 americans and brought them into the airport. They are now safe. Back to you. Bret jen, quickly, you know, we saw Defense Secretary austin, i guess, wednesday say we dont have the capability to go out and collect up large numbers of people. Is it possible that it may start happening and we dont know it . Well, you always have a possibility of Mission Creep any time you have u. S. Forces on the ground. What we are seeing is that there are cases and when you have troops there and there are calls for help, its going to be difficult for them to say no if theyre american citizens. Bret exactly. There are indications that not only is alqaeda continuing presence on the ground in afghanistan. Its likely to grow. We saw with the prison releases that the taliban prison releases, many alqaeda fighters being part of those. You have seen history of alqaeda leaders being killed in afghanistan in recent months and if you listen to the Jihadist Message boards and posts on social media, it sounds like they understand that afghanistan is likely to be an even friendlier safe haven than it has been now with the taliban in control. So he is vastly understating the operational risks here in addition to all of the assessments that he has misassessments he has made over the week. I think the most alarming thing from my perspective is that Joe Biden looks at whats happened over the past week and says validation of his strategy. That is just so at odds with reality and what everybody else is seeing it. It does make you question his fitness to continue to make these judgments. Bret yeah. Bret juan, what do you think is really going on . Is It Staffing . Is it the president . Whats really happening . Juan well, obviously, i think the evacuation has not been orderly. President biden could have handled it better. I think that he is sticking to hiS Principles and i think the good news there is, of course, that for all the back and forth, i think this week we have seen 13,000 people evacuated. The White House says 18,000 since The End of last month. So thatS Pretty good. But on the ground, you get these inconsistencies, different points of view. But, to me, thats not the Big Point. To me the Big Point is after 20 years, after four President S, that were afraid of this kind of political static for saying we need to end this war, after that theory, we finally this week ended the war in afghanistan. I mean, to me, this is an incredible moment for america. We stopped the use of afghanistan as a Terrorist Prime Spot for 20 years. Bret back to the question. Thats the question. I mean, is it the Forever War just going to come back in a different framework now with the taliban with billions of dollars of u. S. Military equipment, mark . And, you know, you can say it was right to pull out all the troops. The Trump Administration wanted to do that, too.
