In other cities protests against the taliban erupted. Flags were pulled down and replaced with the afghan national flag. Local media reports three people were killed and a number injured when the taliban fired into the crowd of these demonstrators. Chaotic scenes are only whats being captured by Local Media or civilians. There are reports of assassinations and beatings in numerous cities across afghanistan. Dangerously close to becoming prisoners of war. I think there is a tendency because they are now giving Press Conferences for people to think that the taliban is this monolithic governmental entity. It is not. It has competing factions. All It Takes is one are those factions to do something stupid and we could see bodies being dragged through The Streets. The fact weve painted ourselves into the corner dependent on the goodwill of the taliban is embarrassing for the united states and unacceptable given the danger american citizens are in trapped Behind Enemy Lines. I think the fact that the Biden Administration has so cavalierly dismissed that and are now making threats against the taliban if they provide a Safe Haven for Al Qaeda suggests they dont understand whats going on on the ground at all. Bill Jessica Weve seen pretty horrific images already today of women and Kids In The Street bleeding. Obviously victims of some level of violence leveled by the taliban. This could be just the beginning of it. Who knows whats happening in the countryside. How are we to interpret the future for Women In Afghanistan after this departure. The future is extremely dire. What we saw in kabul was the taliban going on an offensive. The world is watching now and they were saying all the right things. Well let women work and study. But everything that were hearing from the ground contradicts that. Were Hearing Reports of women getting beaten for trying to access the airport. Women beaten for filming. Hearing a lot of abuse, girls being turned away from school. It is difficult to make sense of the early reports i think the talibans Words Yesterday have so far not been matched up with reality. Dana tom, you studied Al Qaeda, the terrorist movements across the world. What do you think is the next phase here for the taliban . Well, i think the bottom line is just as steve said people have really misunderstood the taliban Al Qaeda relationship for 20 years now. One of the great deback also in all this, one of the Greater Yors the u. S. Hasnt understood who it was really fighting. I run a website and produce facts on the Al Qaeda taliban relationship going back many years now. A victory not just for the taliban but Al Qaeda. Al qaeda is going nuts now on Social Media launching new sites as we speak declaring victory and releasing footage of fighting in the taliban takeover. We have many pieces of evidence from Al Qaeda of their operations in afghanistan over the last year. They put out a newsletter every week which were the only ones reading it. They were actually talking about their march to take kabul over. So the bottom line here is that the u. S. Never really understood who it was fighting. We heard President Biden this week say Al Qaeda was degraded in afghanistan. You can go back and find similar phrases used by american officials for more than a decade saying over and over again Al Qaeda was on the path to defeat. They said this so often they never got around to defeating Al Qaeda. So the bottom line here this is a stunning example of american incompetence and a victory for Al Qaeda. Bill if you were able to and we could rewind the decisions of time over the past week or so. If you were to fast forward three months from now, tom, would it have been any different if the Withdrawal And Security of those that really belong to us had been taken Care Of first . Would it be different or still this celebration that you describe . Well, the only Thing G different at this point would have been the evacuation could have been done differently. It is inconceivable that we would have seen the united states scrambling trying to cut Side Deals with the taliban just so we can get americans out. It is inconceivable you would have had a spokesman for the president of the united states saying in effect yeah, we dont know if well be able to get all the americans out. Well try. They look at that, our allies look at that and say this is not a reliable ally and not somebody we want to be lined up with on the battlefield and maybe diplomatic situations.
