Moments ago afghan president Ashraf Ghani vowed on not to give up over what he called the major achievements the last 20 years. Of the taliban have taken over capitals the last recent days the united states spent 80 Billion on the Afghan Army and officials say they have melted away. On the kandahar spiritual home. 3,000 u. S. Troops set to arrive in kabul to help evacuate thousands from the u. S. Embassy. Now destroying sensitive information that cost 700 Million to build. The pentagon insists the afghan forces still have the advantage. You said the afghan forces have the advantage. What proof can you offer . The resistance that they have faced has been insufficient to stop, to check those advances does not mean, lucas, that the advantages arent still there did. In recent days i have received numerous message from afghans desperate to escape as the taliban closes in on kabul. Will, rachel, lawrence. Will thank you for that we would love to ask you a couple of questions. First of all if, lucas, in fact the Afghan Army does have the advantage as you pressed and asked right there, why then is the resistance so futile . What answer are you given by the pentagon . Pentagon officials say the Afghan Army just has not shown the will to fight. A lot of people made the analogy that this is like the end of the vietnam war. I would argue that this is more analogous to iraq which when they left just a decade ago and remember who was the head of the u. S. Forces at the time general lloyd austin. U. S. Forces leaf iraq, isis will take over and called Auto Divide in iraq and they will metastasize. We are seeing that again right now in afghanistan. As soon as u. S. Forces left afghanistan, will, thats when the taliban went on the offensive. There is not enough u. S. Jets there is not enough troops on the ground the afghan forces have shown what officials say complete incompetence. Will so much attention now turns to kabul and what will happen in that city. But, whats happening in those provin shall capitals now that the taliban is taking over . Are we getting reports of what is taking place in those cities across afghanistan not just for the journalistic curiosity of what is happening on the Ground Today but sort as a predictor of what could be happening soon once american troops and troops, entire coalition leaves kabul, whats to be expected. Whats to be expected are war trials and sharia law. We are seeing in kandahar taken over the Radio Station and broadcasting. They are establishing islamic emirate. This is what they have been saying all along a lot of calls at the State Department the taliban are seeking legitimacy and how to recognize them. The taliban are not interested in international recognition legitimacy. They also believe there is a military solution. All wee are been hearing from the Pentagon John Care biff saying there is no military solution. Clearly of the taliban thinks there is a military solution. There seems to be division even within the White House. Senior officials have been tweeting and deleting tweets. They are saying that there is division right now between the State Department, the defense a second as well as senior aids. What do you know what are you hearing from your sources . Lawrence, remember u. S. Sources were supposed to have a complete withdrawal from the country by the end of this month. Now in an about face there is 3,000 u. S. Troops going to kabul. So i pressed John Kirby on that earlier this week. I said is the deadline to withdraw still August 31st in he said that timeline is still intact. Officials i have spoken to it the u. S. Military says the plan is to put these troops on the ground, get The Americans and also afghan interpreters and their families who helped america over the last 20 years in this war to get them out of the country as soon as possible and meet that deadline. At love people are dubious because as we saw here in washington, d. C. , you put troops anywhere and deploy them, its hard to get them out rapidly. Guys . What do you think the motive is behind it are the professors driving this kind of division. I think there is a really deep ideological group to see oppressor vs. Oppressed sort of Neo Marxist Breakdown of society that has allowed for a lot of the civil unrest and a lot of the really unfortunate new version of segregation that we have seen on campuses. But i can agree with you and happily report that the majority of people i know dont act that way and comport themselves that way and we still uphold Martin Luther kings vision. We see Each Other as Human Beings first and for most. Unfortunately there is still that small radical contingent and that ideology does run rampant on campuses, absolutely. Lawrence whats the vibe like on College Campuses now . It used to be the simple liberal vs. Conservative. Is it deeper now . I think there is an interesting sort of schism on the left where we have true Classical Liberals who want to stand up for Free Speech and open expression and the experience of colliding with different viewpoints and having that conversation and a very liberal left thats rising. And so now we are seeing that two thirds of College Students feel ideologically suppressed on campuses. And so, unfortunately, there is a bit of tyranny of the minority where the loudest voices and the most outraged and politically correct students on campus, unfortunately do hold the majority of power at times. But ultimately there is a plurality of students who want to stand up and speak out and hopefully more of them will continue to do so. Tell me your perspective as one who has given so much to fight for afghanistan to see whats happening now . Its not one of those things where i need to know that we have won that war to mean something. I know my sack faces meant the men around me survived and this country did better. We havent had a 9 11 since 2001. That may be the only thing we get to hang our hat on afghanistan. What bothers me so much to have a commanderinchief who comes out and displays not understanding the afghan Security Forces or the strengths of the talabani better or as well as i did as an e 6 on the ground taking bombs apart 11 years ago. I could have told you the minute they announced this that the Security Forces would not hold up and its not because they are not honorable or they dont have the training. Its those things, too. Its because they are not indoctrinated they dont have a national identity. They care about the area they are from not the entire country. They just dont have the same perspective we do. We talk all the time about how afghanistan may never about be this western democracy because they have a different culture Thats Part of it too. He talks about 300,000 troops. How many of those 300,000 troops have their families threatened. How many were two provinces away from where they are from and it Care Sitting in to fight as well as two countries away. Its not their home. Its a different culture. TO Say 300,000 afghan Security Forces have the same motivations at taliban thats a look last 20 years and close your eyes and ears. Will when you went toe afghanistan both you and your fellow comrade in arms. What was your understanding of the objective . Why did you go and therefore, in your mind. What is a proper ending to the afghan war . See, thats the problem. We started this war stating simply we are going to go kill the people that killed us and make sure they cant do it again. By the time i got afghanistan in 2010 it was, you know, make this place better for the women and children here. Listen, i have my flesh to make that place better for the women and children. Its not say i dont care about that. But to understand that even our leaders didnt understand what our ultimate objective was when President Trump started announcing to pull troops out of afghanistan. My sentiment was very simple. If you Cant State an objective and tell us how we are going to meet and it why the Blood And Treasure matters then you should pull them out. My thoughts were the 3,000 marines going there to do their job. Make no mistake. This is exactly what the Marine Corps is supposed to do. We are a light Weight Move fast quick in a hurry get something kind of force. The occupying manner we had in iraq was really not what the Marine Corps trains to do. This is the kind of thing the Marine Corps is made for. So i have complete faith they are going to go in and get the job done. The worry and this is not to kind of put worry into everyones heart. The worry is what happens if the taliban tries to target these marines and americans trying to pull out. Thats really The Big Question. Honestly, thats the first question that should be asked of Joe Biden as soon as somebody gets a chance to ask Joe Biden a question what do we do if the taliban targets marines or americans. Lets hope they dont. And i dont think honestly they will. But theyre also the taliban. So if something happens there and anyone is injured or you know, lost a life are we right just back in war again . Thats my fear. But im also worried about the morale of our military. They have been through so much. Well, there is two things here. Number one, the people serving right now today, not as many of them were fighting and leading in this war because it has been 20 years and relatively calm for awhile. The veterans sitting at home have a lot of mixed emotions. The Group Texts on my phone shows everybody from a rainbow to i hope they dont pull out of retirement to fix this for them and light hearted about it in that sense. The people serving now. There are 3,000 marines that are ready to roll. I can tell you that their morale is at the top. They are going to do their job. They are going to do it well and we are going to praise them for it as we should. Get the job done, i can guarantee you that. Will it is a political question but i dont think its a partisan question. Now our approach to afghanistan has spanned four different administrations. And more approaches, perhaps. Does it feel likes a we leave afghanistan to you, and i think i use that word purposefully. Feel like. Does it feel like your sacrifice was worth it . 9 11 happened in 2001. We havent seen anything like it since. We experienced this directly with the University Of Nebraska when the resolution was proposed the Chancellors Office the university of maybe put out a Statement Anybody helping the University Of Nebraska was helping the Ku Klux klan which basically means if you are opposed to the critical Race Theory you are either stupid or racist. What that is really about is trying to shut down the conversation. Will right recommendation thats the point of the resolution is to stop this shutting down and painting anybody who wasnting to have a debate about this is a racist. What this would have been is prevented interest it from being imposed upon the staff. Thats what we see across this country and not just as universities but in private companies that critical Race Theory is being pushed in training sessions and upon people at other different ways and so thats what we are trying to prevent here is you know, any time you see and, again, the Chancellors Office was the chancellor talked about his journey of Antiracism And Equity and those words all sound good but what they mean is pushing this critical Race Theory and, you know, for example, the Word Equity is about equal outcomes. Phil keating joins us live from marathon, florida with the latest. Phil . Good morning. After days of warnings, freds rains finally started hitting the middle keys early this morning. Right now we are in clearly a lull. Its really quite nice right now. Next heavy bought of rain is expected in about 90 minutes from now. We should be getting about 2 to 4 inches throughout the weekend here in middle keys. The tropical system has been a surprise the past few days failing to regain tropical Storm Status longer than expected. Staying very disorganized and yesterday moving westbound before it heads northbound across all of cuba. Meaning likely it will now move west of key access west. So instead of two florida land falls it looks like one on monday up in the florida panhandle, perhaps somewhere between pensacola and panama city. And look at the other system following freds footsteps directly footsteps. Thats tropical Storm Grace forming overnight with 40 mileperhour winds. That one could become a hurricane next week and, again, threatening florida. Fred is more than annoyance this weekend not too much strong for much worry but definitely a rainmaker. The dominican Republic Republican haiti have already seen what the storm is all about this wednesday. Rain, lots of rain. And a lot of Street Flooding on areas like South Florida that are already, well saturated. The Miami And Fort Lauderdale Area is no longer in the cone of concern but still with 3 to 7 inches of rain possible today and tomorrow, several sandbagging stations were set up from miami all The Way north to tallahassee for those worried about flooding. A tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for half of the florida keys. No longer all of the keys, it starts here in marathon, seven Mile Bridge and goes westbound through key west in the dry there was also now as of this morning a tropical Storm Warning for Puerto Rico and the u. S. Virgin islands, that is due to grace, all of South Florida this weekend remains under a flood watch. Back to you. Estimates say there could be thousands of pay they fatalities. The earthquake was 7. 0 and killed over 2,000 people in haiti. It was closer to portauprince in the capital where the population is. Theres still plenty of small towns in the area, haiti, one of the poorest nations in the caribbean infrastructure is certainly difficult and because of that poverty people dont have really kind of the means to protect themselves.
