If we know that right now covid19 is not more deadly than the seasonal flu, what is the argument behind having masks for schoolaged kids . At least its physically speaking it seems to be on par with that. Never done that for the seasonal flu. Why now and what can we do if your parent to get your kids in school safely . Death in the pediatric population from covid fortunately is not common. We have several hundred deaths. One death is one too many but we need to do is we need to look at the data. If you told me a month ago you need to wear masks in schools when we have such a low prevalence in the community, i wouldve thought you were crazy. The differences right now is the Delta Covid Variant is actually impacting the younger population. Right now we do have an increase in pediatric hospitalizations. It has doubled. We are hoping in the next few weeks we will see the current Surge Fizzle out and then hopefully we can resume a normal lifestyle without having all these mandates. But right now for example if you look at whats happening in mississippi, they are opening up a field hospital. Louisiana has zero icu beds. And we see the governor ivey, she declared a State Of Emergency in her state. Currently right now, kevin, we have over 10,000 students, staff and teachers who are in quarantine.
