Allow me if i made a step back for just a minute, the Health And Safety of our kids is among if not mime most sacred responsibility, as it is, by the way, for any governor. There are issues that are and must always remain above politics, and this is one of them. Anyone telling you that we can safely reopen our schools without requiring everyone inside to wear a is quite simply lying to you. Because we cant. I want as much, believe me, as much as Anybody Else in our state to see our kids smiles as they start their School Years, but i do not want to see it at the same time any of them getting sick needlessly or school shutting down again and go remote because of an outbreak, and especially because of a dangerous variant that is putting kids in its crosshairs. Our educational communities lost a lot over the past School Year, remote learning imposed intense challenges on educators trying to reach students without any real way of knowing if they were. It distinguished countless students from and placed an undue burden on countless parents. Remote learning is no replacement for the bond between educator and student, or for the support of socialization that our children receive from being among their peers. We are committed to rebuilding these bonds in the safest way we can. Today that means following the guidance of the cdc and recommendations from The American Academy Of Pediatrics. It means taking to heart the many conversations we have had with medical experts here at home with School District leaders, with educators, and with key stakeholders including parents. It means ensuring a layered approach to safety that brings together a host of strategies including masking to keep schools safe. And i want to make it clear that as soon as conditions allow, please, god, sooner than later, we will lift the requirement again. This is not permanent. And our requirement will have the same Common Sense Carve Outs that were in place the last School Year including for students with documented medical conditions or disabilities that make wearing a mask either difficult or dangerous, rigorous activities in gym classes, excessive heat, playing a musical instrument, or eating in a classroom or cafeteria. Nicole saphier, some good news and some not so good news they are. The good news is the governor says that the schools will reopen in the fall, that this is not permanent. He wants to prevent an outbreak, but one thing that i wanted you to drill down on, doctor, he said anyone who tells you you can safely open schools without masks is lying to you, what do you think about that statement . The one thing he did not mention is a new Jersey Mom of three which is why i have a massive opinion on what we just listen to. John we omitted that. Give us the opinion. I think that he is blessed with the gift of anita a lot of rhetoric. I think that they are missing the mark when it comes to school reopening, yes. First and foremost, getting children back in Person Learning fulltime is the most important thing. Absolutely, but i dont think that it is as blackandwhite as people want to see. New jersey is not where arkansas, florida, and other states in the Sun Belt are right now with low Vaccination Levels and high Case Transmission. Here in New Jersey we have a less than 5 positivity testing rate. To sing as soon as we are able to, we are going to take off the masks, what is that metric . We have to stop using the rhetoric and actually give some metrics to people know what we are working towards a towards. Dr. Fauci last summer said when we get to below 5 positivity, then school should be able to open up free and clear as long as they have Surveillance Testing Inplace and Contact Tracing available. Well, guess what, here we are, less than 5 positivity in New Jersey. We have one of the highest Vaccination Rates in the country, some of the lowest Case Transmission rates in the country, yet we are seeing that all Children K12 universally have to be masked. What they are missing here is the headlines continue to talk about how more children are getting sick with the Delta Variant, more children are hospitalized with the Delta Variant, but i need to drill home to people right now that there is nothing at this point to say that the Delta Variant is more severe in children, more children are being infected because adults are vaccinated and kids are together at camp, congregating indoors to gather, there is a lot of transmission in kids right now, but it does not seem thus far that the Delta Variant is actually affecting them more severely. We have to keep that in mind, so if we have low transmission, we have the adults vaccinated, the adults who are immunocompromised or vulnerable wearing masks, children should be able to attend schools without masks on. Anita dr. Saphier, you mention the high Vaccination Rates in the state, so why not allow some of the younger kids to go Back To School without a mask and have the teachers wear a mask, is that a concept . Ive been saying this for a long time at this point, apparently No One listens to me. But we have a lot of data, not just in the united states, outside of our country as well that shows young children in schools are less likely to transmit the virus to Each Other. It is the teachers and the staff that tend to bring the virus in the school and give it to Each Other or even give it to a student. The good news is, teachers can go get vaccinated right now, and even if they are still nervous, they can wear a medical Grade Mask in addition to protect themselves. So the children, we have to let them be children. I personally believe when you have low community transmission, the teacher should be vaccinated and masks and the kids should be masked list unless very specific situations. Anita dr. As long as this administration continues to make Border Security a political issue, as long as i continue to talk about root causes that exist in other countries instead of dealing with the root causes right here in the united states, we are going to continue to see these numbers rise. As long as we reward illegal activity, as long as we continue to release people into the united states under the Catch And Release program, we can expect these numbers to continue to rise and thats why we are seeing it even in the brutal months where the heat is just absolutely staggering. We are going to continue to see this trend go up. They just lose out on money if there is an Eviction Moratorium, but in the case of the 40 Billion program, that would pay massive corporations that are in charge of your Rent And Utility not your rent, but your utility is internet flexing her gas and your electric, it would use federal dollars to pay all of those bills, so a huge company would still get all of their payments in these troubling times. Landlords at this time, they are not getting their rent payments, and they have nowhere to turn to to get those payments. It just sort of its an interesting glimpse into who survives and who wins and who loses when these people take control over every aspect of peoples lives. From the denver post, from the local fox station, Denver Metro spends double on a homeless person than it would a k12 students. The numbers were gathered by health charities and a city homeless fund. Heres a snapshot. In the Denver Metro area between 41,104 is spent per person experiencing homelessness. An eyepopping range especially when you consider the city spends 19,000 per k12 student. The average renter pays 21,000 a year. Denvers department of Housing Stability is questioning the Studys Method pushing back in a statement. The study was done by the Common Sense institute. John now to a terrifying moment, a close call for a Sheriffs Deputy in california after getting too close to one of the most addictive and deadly drugs on the planet. Jonathan hunt has video of the rescue. Jonathan, walk us through this. John, we watched it play out on Body Camera Footage today. Its released by the san diego Sheriffs Department. As the deputy and his partner search a vehicle and find drugs. Its a pounder. Is it cocaine our fentanyl . The deputy got too close from a drug that can kill from a few particles being breathed in. He almost immediately collapsed. For him, the corporal recognized the effects of fentanyl and used the narcan spray, which can counter the effects of the drugs and saved his life. I went to the trunk and got the narcan. I did one nasal spray and then the other one. And then he overdosed moments later as firefighters pull up. The officer overdosed a third time on the way to the hospital but thankfully is alive today. The Sheriffs Department put out the video because they want everybody to see the dangers of opioids in general and fentanyl in particular. Remember, the deputy overdosed merely by standing close to the drugs in that vehicle. He did nothing wrong according to the sheriff other than getting too close to a drug that can be deadly when breathed in in tiny amounts or accidentally absorbed through the skin. According to cdc, there were 93,000 deaths from overdoses last year. A record high compared with an estimated 72,000 deaths in 2019. Thats from provisional Overdose Drug data released last Month And Fentanyl was involved in around 2 3s of the deaths. I dont think people realize the severity of just how deadly it is. Bottom line, john, in 2020, close to 60,000 people overdosed on fentanyl and were not as lucky as the deputy. John jonathan, it is extraordinary to see him get a whiff of that and he goes down. Thank god his fellow officer had narcan and knew how to administer it. Absolutely. Narcan is a lifesaver in this. One other thing i noticed in that is the deputy does not appear to be wearing gloves. Fentanyl can also be deadly just being absorbed through the skin. So that may have been a factor here as well, john. John a real Wakeup Call for everybody watching.
