Accusations against New York democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo. A State Attorney Generals Investigation has unveiled an array of accusations with specific and luring details of cuomos alleged comments and actions. The governor quickly issued a lengthy rebuttal in which he attributed the allegations to misunderstandings, misinterpretations and politics. Still prominent democrats including President Biden are calling for his resignation. Correspondent Bryan Llenas has been following the story from the start, joins us live from New York. Hello, brian. Shannon, good evening, Tonight A Stunningly Detailed and damning report from independent investigators finds, in part, that Governor Cuomo groped an Executive Assistant inappropriately touched a state trooper, and unlawfully retaliated against an employee who spoke out against him. The independent investigation has concluded that Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women and in doing so violated federal and state law. New York Attorney general latisha james making a stunning Announcement Today that an independent investigation by her office found Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed 11 current and staff and employees. These interviews and pieces of evidence reveal a deeply disturbing, yet clear Picture Investigators released a 165 page public report including testimony from the 11 accusers. Interviews with 179 current and former employees of the governor and 74,000 pieces of emails, texts and pictures. The report concluded Cuomo Foster add toxic and abusive workplace where he inappropriately touched women and made sexual remarks. Some suffered through unwanted touching and grabbing of their most intimate body parts. Others suffered through repeated, offensive sexually subject Tia Or Gender based comments a number of them endured both. Charlotte bennett tweeting resign. In a message Governor Cuomo denied the allegations. I never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances. Cuomos lawyer released a 85 Page Rebuttal to the independent investigation. The vast majority included page after page of dozens of photos showing Cuomo Hugging and kissing people and politicians, claiming his accusers are unfairly characterizing and weaponizing his everyday interactions. I am 63 years old. I have lived my entire adult life in public view. That is just not who i am. And thats not who i have ever been. Cuomo then characterized the investigation as a political witchhunt. Politics. Bricks and bias are interwoven throughout every aspect of this investigation. Undermine and politicize the investigation offensive. I support their work, will defend their work, and i believe he is hands in the democratic controlled assembly looking into possible impeachment. And i think hearing karl Hasty Say what he said this evening, i think we are down to a very short period of time for Governor Cuomo. Shannon so he had a rebuttal ready. He has also gone point by point talking about some of these allegations and these women and saying he never did anything inappropriate touching inappropriate conversation. The governor also engaged in a widespread pattern of subjecting women to unwanted hugs and kisses and touching them in ways that made them uncomfortable. Conduct that is not just old fashioned affectionate behavior hes and some of his Staff Members would have it. But, unlawful sexbased harassment. Shannon thats something different than what we saw from the governor when he played this which i personally as a former shower. Attorney found a little bit bizarre this Video Montage of Him Hugging and kissing people. Jonathan, lets talk now about the other side of this, not political but the legal implications. Well, whats fascinating to me is, he may have locked himself into a defense at trial. Some of these statements could be admissible for purposes of impeachment or rebuttal. He is responding to an official report. He is explaining his conduct specifically with regard to people like bennett. And it will not play well, this idea that im old and a little Bit Gropey is not something that the jury is going to take well. But the other interesting aspect is that the opposing counsel could juxtapose the statement. He actually comes out and says that he was trying to engage in a type of therapeutic conversation with bennett because she is a former, you know, she is a victim of prior shower. Now, if you juxtapose that position, that statement in trial, with the statements of these women that they were groped and they were subjected to really creepy and offensive statements, it will not be a good moment for the defense he talks about welcoming the Judge And Jury in the case. He may just want to welcome the judge. Because im not too sure a jury is going to that be welcoming of this defense. Shannon andy, you know New York better than i do. You were a prosecutor there how is thiS Playing . It sounded like to me in the Governors Rebuttal to me was a little bit of victim shaming, of continuing to question these women, seeming to suggest that he was just trying to be a nice guy and throwing these women under the bus suggesting this waS Political in nature but, you know, short of impeachment, i dont know how he goes anywhere before his term is up. Yeah. Well, i think, shannon, that the Weather Vane here is Karl Hasting because he is actually very close to cuomo. And the thought here in New York was that as long as hasty was at the helm in the assembly, that cuomo would be fine. The thing is everybody always knew this Investigation Being Run by Leticia James who may also have aspirations to make a run for the governorship. Everybody knew this was the Time Bomb and i think by virtue of the fact that hasty Doing A 180 On Cuomo this afternoon, that shows the way the wind is blowing here in New York. This report had as well about information within the Governors Staff about attempts to potentially put together a coordinated effort to discredit some of these victims, allegations of retaliation, harassment, of trying to silence people. What Potential Liability would aides, people within his office who knew about these things who may have been taking part in the alleged retaliation, what worry should they have at thiS Point . Also, if you are coordinating or allowing a Campaign Retaliation through state officials, you are really in Core Territory of impeachable, you know, conduct. This conduct extends to both criminal and civil allegations. Now, as to the staffers, they can be accused of creating a hostile workplace. The key here is that at least one of the 11 women is described as a current staffer. That can help them get around statute of limitations on the State Side which is shorter.
