They are instead talking about well, lets go after guns. Going after the guns does not do anything in this case, because usually when they are talking about going after guns they are going after people who are lawabiding citizens. Is that problem solved . 3 minutes, the most efficient way to go about solving the problem, look, you should be going after obviously illegal Gun Sales and all of this, but remember this is a president who instead of going after the Defund Movement decided to go after Ghost Guns. No. Go ahead and get those guns, but you have to make sure that youre going after the people who are using the guns and that means turning away from a light of crime on approach. It is hypocritical for this mayor who just a year ago did not want help from President Trump, who by the way i was not a Fan Of, need federal help from Joe Biden. Clearly the politics of this is more important to this mayor than saving peoples lives. Gillian what do you think . He is absolutely right, the reason they do not want to get help from Donald Trump was because they knew that the president had a different ideological perspective on going after crime. You know Joe Biden you are not going to get the same tough on crime approach, so it is politically a little bit easier, but thats why we are not going to see any meaningful results. You are going after a president for help as someone who does not believe in putting criminals in jail. You have a part of the democratic party right now that believes that the entire Justice System is racist, that it comes from a position of White Supremacy and has to be dismantled and then rebuilt. If you come from that mindset coming youre not going to utilize the tools that are there to go after these problems, this truly is not rocket science, we can figure out very easily what can be done today to go after these criminals, but they refused to do it, because it does not play into their beliefs. What they have been able to do is move away from the traditional curriculum of reading, writing, math, which we need to make huge improvements in those areas to reading, writing writing, and racism, thats not what we should stand for and thats why these parents are standing up and saying no more. Gillian richard, there was this Big Overarching Question here that i think its begging to be answered, and that is whether Teaching Americans to feel responsible for the errors and their sins of their ancestors is really a productive healthy thing that is in the interest of society in the long term or whether this just creates generations of americans who feel ashamed, who experience selfloathing, what is your take on that . Thanks for having me, gillian, and its good to see you, mercedes, i think the distinction between critical Race Theory, which we dont see at Highlevel Sociology degrees and the ideal of teaching the truth in our classrooms, because there has to be a clear delineation, if we want to live up to what our founders wanted to be a nation where everybody is judged by the contents of their character and not the color of their Skin And Everybody has the ability to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, it requires that we teach about the truth in American History and understand that parts of American History while they might be painful are littered with inequities, littered with inequality, and savagely littered with racism whether it was the employment of africanamericans, or the 100 years of jim crow, whether it was redlining, whether it was a failed war on drugs, over and over and over again, but you see the inequities in our system and its important that our children learn these things about the inequities so that they do not repeat them in the future and actually become a better country. Gillian so, mercedes, activists, certain activists are now calling the American Flag i hate signal, the Blm Chapter in utah posted this, it is a quote on their facebook page, we have pulled it directly social media, when we black americans see the flag, we know that the person flying it is not safe to be around. When we see the flag we know that the person flying it is a racist it is a symbol of hatred, what is your response to that . Look, i am so sad about it. The American Flag is a symbol of unity. Its what brings us all together, you know, the virtues of valor and purity, of perseverance and justice, all of those that are part of the colors of the American Flag, red, white, and blue, thats what we are aiming for and trying to achieve as a nation, and what is so sad is when you have the blm come this one particular chapter basically calling the American Flag a hate symbol, we have to come together as a nation, let me tell you something, our goal needs to be to fight racism, not to fight america, our goal is to ensure that we dont destroy this country, as richard mentioned, the foundation is they are, or unalienable rights that the government needs to protect, that god created, thats what all americans, and we have to address the inequities, we need to teach American History, but we cant put this in critical Race Theory, and we can to basically say that the American Flag as a hate symbol, it is a symbol of hope, a symbol of liberty for all, and we all as americans need to work together regardless of race, regardless of Ethnicity Ethnicity to stay strong as a nation, because let me tell you, gillian, Russia And China are looking at us and laughing, they are basically looking and saying, look at how divided america is, look at how much hatred there is in america, and that is what we have to work against, and thats why we need to work to achieve liberty in this country. Gillian richard, what do you say to mercedes point they are that especially when it comes to young children in this country its important that we teach them that racism is the enemy enemy, not to hit the united states. I think thats a good point, right, its also worthwhile to understand why there is a better relationship between some africanamericans in the American Flag, a lot of it has to do that for some people, its not that long ago, for some people their parents fought in World War i or World War ii and they came back home after fighting for democracy across the pond to a country that said they were not allowed their own democracy, its worth pointing out that in 1965 is when black people had the full right to vote, remember i am 34 years old and my mom was Born A Prethe Times that africanamericans were given the full right to vote, so we have to have a real conversation in this country that it was not that long ago that we had jim crow, it was not that long ago before we had real inequities and racism, mercedes is right, we should all see the American Flag is a beacon of hope, but for that to be the case it requires us to have a tough conversation to find out why there are people who are american citizens who have a bittersweet relationship with that flag.
