It can cause inflammation, discomfort and in some cases internal bleeding. Its a common medical problem for many aging adults. The 84yearold attended the traditional Sunday Mass before the procedure started. During the mass he said he would go to hungary in september, and asked attendees to pray for him. The pope appeared strong and in good spirits. The vatican Press Office is expected to release a statement later today, updating the public on his condition after surgery. This does come after a very busy time period for the pope, just last week he met with u. S. Secretary of state Antony Blinken and held a large mass on tuesday. Alicia. Alicia Trey Yingst in jerusalem. Thank you. Griff. Griff alicia, the Blue Angels are celebrating their 75th Anniversary. Griff im so excited i jumped the gun on the Blue Angels, just talked to their commander in the last segment and they are celebrating their 75th Anniversary this Independence Day. The group is marking the occasion with a demonstration at the Kansas City Air show and that is where we find Fox Nation hoved and our proud american correspondence, Abby Hornacek who is in gardner, kansas. What is happening there now, such an exciting day. Reporter oh, my goodness. Griff, it really is. The Air Show is going on as we speak. And you knows what . Theyre performing in front of a sold out Crowd. 25,000 people yesterday, 25,000 people today. It is just a great show of patriotism. You know what . Its not just the fans who are showing that patriotism. Its the pilots as well. Well, you know, its a proud day to been an american, especially on the 4th Of July. To be able to perform on the 4th Of July is a dream come true, its awesome to be able to be in front of such an awesome Crowd and on such a patriotic day. Were here to uplift peoples spirits. Its been a tough year for america. The 4th Of July brings people together. Reporter you just heard from two Thunderbird Pilots as they talk about what this day means to them. E as well, the Blue Angels and the thunderbirds are performing at the kc Air Show which is a rare occurrence and a real treat to fans and its thanks to the thunderbirds last Minute Trip to kansas city. In addition to the fighter jets, the other aircraft that will be here, weve also been able to witness Ariel Demonstration teams like the leap frogs and the golden knights. The Staff Sergeant kicked off the weekend by jumping out of a plane with an american flag. He said it was amazing to fly the national colors ahead of the 4th Of July and i was talking to people ahead of the show, one of the pilots told me if you want to see patriotic people, come to an Air Show and he was absolutely right. Griff abby, hold on. Ive got for our viewers who may not have seen it earlier this morning you as well participated, you jumped and it was very exciting to watch. You tell us what happened. Reporter yes, i was able to jump out with a navy leap frog. It was an event of a lifetime, something i will remember forever. The crew is already annoyed with me talking about it because i wont shut up about it. They are incredible and a real great showing of the patriotism of our Men And Women who fight for our country as we celebrate this Independence Day, it reminds us that our Freedom Isnt necessarily free and what they do every single day is its unparalleled. Griff just very quickly, abby, the determination, the precision, whether it is the Blue Angels, the thunderbirds or the folks you jumped with, its really something to see in person, is it not . Reporter oh, it definitely is. You can watch videos all day long but when youre standing next to hem, you hear the engines, i heard you talk about the Super Hornet earlier, a lot of power with those planes and to know that the Blue Angels pilots dont wear g suits when they experience they forces, they have to manage their breathing while also flying close enough but not so close where they touch wings with one another, i have no idea how they do it, griff and you know, im just happy to watch. Griff i dont know how you do it. You did a great Job Jumping and jumping on our air to tell us about it. Abby hornacek at the Air Show in kansas. Thank you. Tune in tonight for our special Independence Day special, right here on the Fox News channel. All the fun starts right here at 8 00 p. M. Eastern. You dont want to miss it. Alicia. Alicia griff, turning to florida now, the death had toll sits at 24 with 121 still missing in that condo collapse. As florida braces for a tropical storm elsa. Crews in surfside are getting ready to demolish whats left of the partially collapsed condo complex. Colby carp joins us now. Thank you for being here. Via via question. Youre an i have a question. Youre an architect, you are experience with the creation of buildings. The mayor of surfside is saying theyre trying to bring it down in a westward direction. In your expertise, in your knowledge and youve been watching this since it happened, how does that impact the Debris Pile and further the investigation that needs to continue . So number one, please let me say that our prayers and our hearts goes out to the family and friends who live in the Building And Neighboring buildings in the community. The mayor is doing i think a phenomenal Job And Charlie burkehead specifically i think is on this and the controlled demolition is something we have done repeatedly in many locations and specifically here in florida. So hopefully everything will go well and that will move in a nice Westery Direction which is towards the public rightofway, its towards the street and away from where the Northeast Quadrant of the building failed and went down. Alicia this seems like such s an impossible prospect for all of the folks there in surfside and beyond, people watching and waiting for this because you have the tropical storm, you have the demolition and this hope by Family Members that their victims are still that their Family Members are still underneath some of that pile and theyre going to watch the demolition of something thats so not Del Kate and youre not delicate. Youre a resident. I know this is particularly difficult for you. What is it like for the folks there having to watch all of this converge within the next 24 hours, 48 hours . For me personally, it would be a lot of stress and did your, obviously and i think that what everybodys he focused on, they see it as an issue for the process to go forward. It needs to happen. So in order for it to happen, and to move forward correctly and obviously with the tropical storms and the tropical winds that are coming, thisecomes a greater liability, arguably extending out than it would be the collapse. The positive of it is that it has to be done. The reality is that if its not done, if it it becomes a greater issue of safety, therefore it has to be done and really its not an option, to do anything else but to go in that direction. Alicia i just feel for everyone there. Turning to the investigation into all of this, because that is continuing as well, the New York Times this weekend is reporting that there have been engineers on the ground there who have seen the area and there are those who looked at photos. From what it appears to some of the engineers is there was less reinforced steel, less reinforcement placed into this building than was originally part of the design. Is that something that changes often . Would this be something that should be alarming to folks . Or is this just a normal process of a Buildings Birth . So the report is quite comprehensive and good and, no, steel should not be missing. And under Todays Code Enforcement and inspections and record, we have an ability to arguably have a better Record And Inspection of the ongoing new construction that we do have. This is a point of concern. The Safety Factor, though this by itself is probably not the failure that has happened. The failure probably was a number of factors coming together, also what the report is talking about is where the horizontal steel meets the vertical and they see there being some missing and a weakness. So because the Safety Factor obviously is greater but the interesting thing is its been standing for 40 years. 40 years obviously is not a lot of time. Meaning i was in High School in 1981 when the building was being built. But its a rather youthful building. We have similar structures that are historic, like the versailles, the cadillac, the caribbean, theyve been built on the ocean with the same means and method of construction with concrete in the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60 s, this specific building. We go back to the buildings, we repair them, restore them, waterproof them. We take Take Care of the buildings. This specific building, built in the 80s, it looks like, yes, there are things as the report states about the maintenance and about also the construction, means and method about it. And i think that these things coming together, together as a compilation, together as a number of events specifically, you can see people are talking about the failure and the water coming in and theyre saying this has happened before but the lack of maintenance on an ongoing basis, it exponentially weakens the structure, exponentially weakens the steel and leads to a failure as we saw in the middle of the night when nobody was working on the building, nobody was touching the building, everybody was sleeping and thats when it happened. Alicia tell me if im correct here. What im hearing from you is that this feels much more or you appears at the onset to be much more isolated than it would be systemic in these types of buildings. Because youre talking about folks who also have been living in buildings that are years and decades older and theyre wondering if the floor is going to disappear deneat them. It sounds to me if that is true what youre saying this is more probably more isolated situation here. God willing, it is an isolated situation. And at the same time, what i am seeing is the community rising together. The inspectors, the building officials, the mayors, everybody, the governor, you know, theyre all coming together. De santis has been so proactive, the mayor, has been so proactive with the inspectors, with the officials. What is interesting, its becoming a new day here in florida. Similar to what we i experienced in 1992 with hurricane andrew. This changed the way we write our code, it changes the way we test our buildings. It changes everything we look at. The technology we have today, we have the technology. We can look behind the wall. We can see what the Steel Condition is. We can see what the connections are. We can see everything. There is no reason for us not to move forward in a positive fashion this. Alicia we really appreciate your time and expertise today. Thank you for spending extra time with us as we await the demolition of the rest of the building. Thank you so much. Take care. Happy 4th Of July. Alicia same to you. Griff. Adult population vaccinated by July 4th. President biden set the goal back in may. The cdc says about 67 of the nations adults have received at least one dose. Mark meredith is live at the White House. Hi, mark. Reporter alicia, good afternoon to you. Later tonight, President Biden will be hosting a big party at the White House for the 4th Of July. This is going to be one of the biggest events weve seen the president hold here since taking office and it certainly is a sign that the administration is trying the to embrace more of a post pandemic lifestyle. As you mentioned, though, the president had originally set that goal to get 70 of u. S. Adults at least One Shot of the Covid Vaccine by today. He admits he will be missing the target despite what many saw as a strong rollout early on with the vaccine. The latest data from the cdc shows as of today, 156 Million people are fully vaccinated. And that means about 47 of the total u. S. Population and then when we break it down further with adults 18 and older, were talking about 58 fully vaccinated. White house officials say they have to keep pushing the public to get a vaccine sooner rather than later. So were going to double down on our efforts to vaccinate millions of more americans across july and august, so people get that protection and can enjoy life returning to normal. If youre not vaccinated, get vaccinated. Reporter the president is facing political pressure to get the country back to normal quickly. Schools will restart within a matter of weeks and the president admits variants of the coronavirus do remain a real concern. I am concerned that people who have not gotten vaccinated have the capacity to catch the variant and spread the variant to other people who have not been vaccinated. I am not concerned theres going to be a major outbreak. In other words, that were going to have another epidemic nationwide. But i am concerned, lives will be lost. Reporter while the White House is certainly concerned about the delta variability, theres also been pressure from a bipartisan group of lawmakers to lift the Mask Mandate thats still in place when it comes if youre flying, taking a plane or a bus, thats not due to expire until midseptember. We have lawmakers speaking up, saying why is still in place, when flying or traveling. The cdc says at this point no plans to lift it, well see if that pressure builds any further. Alicia, back to to you. And happy 4th Of July. Alicia happy 4th Of July to you as well. Mark meredith at the White House. Thank you. Griff. Griff Pope Francis is at a hospital in Rome Today for what the vatican says is a scheduled surgery to Take Care of a narrowing of the large intestine. The announcement came hours after the 84yearold Pontiff Made A Public appearance before Crowds at st. Peters square, asking for them to say a special prayer for him. Dr. Jeanette nesheiwat joins us now. She is a Fox News medical contributor. Happy 4th Of July to you, dr. Nesheiwat. Hey, griff. Thank you. Griff tell me, the pope has this scheduled procedure. What do you know about it and how concerned should we be for the 84yearold . So, griff, what the pope is suffering from is diverticular disease, its common especially in those over the age of 50. Theres protrusions that come out of the inches tess at this Nail Wall Intestine wall. They can become infected, abscess can occur, even perforations. Sometimes you need antibodies. If you antibuy ott ex. Its very common. Hell be in good hands with amazing surgeons. It can be prevented with a low fat, hifi better diet, making sure you exercise and drink lots of water. Griff and when might we see, dr. Nesheiwat, the Pope Return to st. Peters square in whats the recovery for something like what hes going to go through. Thats a great he question. Everyone is different. Specifically, depending upon your age and any other Risk Factors you may have. If you have diabetes, if you are a smoker, if you have Heart Disease or poor circulation, so we have to take all those factors into consideration. But hopefully within the next couple weeks or so well be able to hear from our pope again. Griff our thoughts and prayers for him and his surgery. Let me turn the gears a little bit here, though. Let me ask you you heard Mark Meredith reporting from the White House, President Biden concerned about this dangerous Covid Delta Variant becoming now the dominant variant in the country. Do the vaccines work against it . You know what, today griff, is not just a day to celebrate Independence And Freedom of this country, but also to celebrate the tremendous progress we made the past year, specifically because of Operation Warp Speed and having over 300 Million americans who have been vaccinated and, yes, as it is right now, the Johnson Johnson, Moderna And Pfizer all three of them are highly effective against this new Delta Variant but the He Key is, when it comes to Moderna And Pfizer, One Shot is not enough. You must have both doses toss be protected against this Delta Variant and the latest studies that just came out with Johnson Johnson show that One Shot of Johnson Johnson will protect you from the complications of the Delta Variant. My greatest concern are those adults, especially with Risk Factors, who are unvaccinated. They are the ones that are most vulnerable to the Delta Variant that we know is more transmissible, more contagious and more likely to put you in the hospital. Griff you raise such a Great Point when we started this segment, dr. Nesheiwat, because you talked about the independence from the pandemic, but now this concern with this new variant for those that are unvaccinated. Behind me, both at the White House and largely on the mall, will be thousands out for the celebration tonight, the fireworks. If theyre not vaccinated, should they consider not participating . Thats a great question. Especially if youre in high risk categories. If youre a senior, if you have Heart Disease, lung disease, copd, cystic fibrosis, suffer from diabetes or of owe business at this, obesity, youre at higher risk. Its outdoor so that lowers the risk. If youre not vaccinated, youre vulnerable a. You want to keep that in mind and protect yourself. Remember, these vaccines can keep you out of the hospital and keep you off of a ventilator. Griff as we look at the footage were showing, You S Gry stores still here in washington you wear a mask. What do you say about whether or not we should continue to wear the masks as relates to this new variant . Should we be cautious . What is the guidance . Sure, well, the cdc says if you are vaccinated you are protected and you dont need to wear your mask. Now, if you are in a Crowded public area, youre not vaccinated, be careful. Wear your mask. Use common sense. There are some parts of the country, for example arkansas, missouri, louisiana, where theres a very low Vaccination Rate of about 30 . Low Vaccination Rates and were seeing spikes, outbreaks. So those are specifically the areas you really want to be careful. Be if youre for example in New York, where theres a high level of vaccination, 70 have been vaccinated, and youre not wearing a mask, then the risk of you picking up covid is still there but its much lower. So it really depends on the part of the country that youre in and your underlying Risk Factors. Griff dr. Jeanette nesheiwat, thank you for joining us. Have a safe and happy fourth. Thank you, you too, griff. Alicia my grants continuing to pour across the southern border. Were live on the border with the latest on the crisis, next. Advil dual action fights pain 2 ways. Alicia the July 4th Holiday Weekend is not slowing the surge of migrants crossing the southern border. Our cameras were rolling as some of them entered the u. S. Today. S live with more. Hi, bill. Reporter hey, good afternoon to you. Business as usual down here at the border today. Our Border Patrol agents certainly not able to take the day off because there is an ongoing crisis down here. Take a live look at our Fox Drone right now. You can see right here in la hoe ya, Texas La Jol la, texas. The migrants keep coming in the hot weather. Its surprising that anybody could make the trip. They come every day, they come here dripping with sweat, look like theyre in rough shape sometimes. Its only going to get worse as the summer months go on. Take a look at what we shot out here at the ballpark when we had a group of about 30 migrants come out of the brush here after they they crossed the rio grande. This is something we see every single day, every trip we made out here basically every day this happens like clock work, these are the Family Units who are not trying to get away. They cross the river, walk through the brush and present themselves to Border Patrol. Here at the ballpark here. Its not always Family Units. Take a look at the photo Border Patrol released yesterday. They apprehended this man yesterday, a guatemalan national. Hes got a second Degree Murder Conviction out of the state of north carolina. Thankfully, they they were able to apprehend him. But it plays into the bigger question that there are criminals who are coming over in these waves of migrants. Earlier today, former Trump Advisor Stephen Miller was on Fox News. He said President Biden threw Kamala Harris under the bus when he made her border czar. Take a listen. Because theyre throwing her under the bus, in all truth i believe the Biden Staff understands their policies are a political loser, they they felt they had to do it to satisfy the radical left base and want the Vice President to take as much of the political damage as they can. You know what, the buck stops with the president. Joe Biden Cant run away from this. Reporter and again, youre taking a live look at our Fox Drone out here in lajolla. Border agents have been telling us more and more of the migrants have been Testing Positive for covid19 when theyre coming across. We noticed the agents keeping more of their distance and wearing n95 masks. This is a dangerous job not just because of the Health Risk but also the physical risk. In laredo, two days ago Border Patrol Agents Reporting that one of the agents was hit in the head by a thrown rock from migrants who tried to cross illegally, then got back into the rio grande, started swimming back over. One of them through a rock and hit threw a rock and hit an agent in the forehead. He was injured. Tough work the agents are doing out here. They dont get a break on the 4th Of July holiday. Send it back to you. Alicia bill, thank you. Griff the Nypd Fanning Outs across the city for the July 4th fireworks. Stepping up patrols after the recent surge in violence and shootings, with pandemic restrictions loosening, big Crowds are expected to watch the spectacular lighting of the sky across the east river. Alex hogan is live in new York City with a preview. Hi, alex. Reporter hi, griff. Happy 4th Of July. The fireworks went on last summer without an audience. Today, macys says the 45th Fireworks Show will be the largest in the nation. It takes a year to plan for this event. It will take Place Tonight around 9 20. The show pays tribute to americans bravery and optimism. Organizers will set off more than 65,000 shells from five barges along the east river. We appreciate you being here today. Thank you, alicia and happy 4th Of July to you too. Alicia thank you so much. Can you tell me how the Army Field band will be celebrating or commemorating this 75th Anniversary. Sure. Our organization for 75 years has been honoring all of our soldiers, more than 1 Million soldiers in uniform, and thanking americas Sons And Daughters for serving their country in the way that they do. This year of course its amazeing that we are able to be you can see behind me the manhattan skyline. We are here to celebrate the big fireworks show this evening. We have a Team Up in boston, we have another group in philadelphia and one back in washington, d. C. So were really proud to represent our soldiers and continue the really deep relationship the army continues to have with the nation. Alicia i was reading some of the interviews that youve done on this and you were talking about the role that music plays, the very important role that music plays to bring people together and right now its a pretty important moment of. Can you discuss that with us . Obviously, everyone has been challenged over the past year. And Theres Nothing like The Power Of Music to, if you will, give voice to the hopes, the dreams, the spirit that built our nation. As we perform the sound track to tonights fireworks in new York City, were just thoughtful of all of those Men And Women who served and were able to kind of give them voice. Were able to give them the right representation and i think thats a really incredible privilege to be able to do. Alicia can you tell me, how is it that you pick what music will be played to meet the particular moment . Yeah, thats a wonderful question. The great thing is theres so many people who have written wonderful music over the years, the fact is, though, in a diverse nation and in an america that really everyone has a story, there is a way to pick music that is appropriate. I mean, tonight you will hear music and different sound tracks that will all be appropriate because they tell the story of the american people and they tell a story in a way that only music can. So we pick things we will be performing the national anthem tonight. Thats kind of the most important song. Alicia absolutely. Colonel tim keane, commander of the u. S. Army Field Band. Thank you for joining us and again, happy fourth. Alicia, thanks, and happy 4th Of July to you. Alicia thank you. So nothing can top that, sir. Alicia and mrs. Ross, i do have a question for you regarding flags, because now as you know we have them everywhere. Did you ever imagine that there would be replicas painted on trucks, that they would be Lining Lawns everywhere you go, especially on the 4th Of July to celebrate our independence . Certainly not. Flags are a military tool, so to see them everywhere would be quite unusual. Griff ben, let me ask you, because you did go to the great britains parliament, stand against the stamp act. Yes, i did. Griff what would you tell to youngsters now perhaps in Grade School about history and the founding of our country . What do they need to make sure they know . Whats most important . Well, i think one of the most important things is they need to know that we were just human beings. We were Men And Women, just as they are, and that we are not exceptional in that sense and they can also aspire to being instrumental and to being effective and accomplishing things. I believe thats the most important thing. They shouldnt treat us as statues and such, just understand that we worked very hard to get this done and its i like to say that we didnt give them the constitution, for example, as a gift. We gave it to them as a job. Its your job to keep it going. Alicia i have a similar question for you with regard to history and for the young people out there, how important is it for them to be learning the history of their country, to learning your place in history . Well, i think it is essential. For my own story, it would not be known if it were not for a legend about the flag that i have made, that has brought people to my story as a woman working and contributing to the revolution and there are many people who may be invisible if people do not keep digging into history so i think it is essential that children keep digging and finding those people who would be invisible otherwise. Pictures of the Betsy Ross house from where youre coming to us live. That is a very special place and has an important place in history. My question for either betsy or ben, why is Betsy Ross house so important . Do you want to take that . Certainly. [laughter] well, it is a place to learn, one, about the history of flags and the way flags have changed over time. As you said, theyre everywhere now. That was quite different then. And so the significance of the flag has changed quite a bit over time and i think that has a lot to say to how our country has changed over time. And also i believe that people just need to realize that this country was built not just by people who perhaps became Household Names but by the people, the women of this city, for example and of this country. My daughter who makes shirts for the soldiers. Griff Great Point. Ben, weve got to leave it ross. Happy fourth. Alicia, it was great to be with you. Happy fourth to you.
