Graphic shots horrific aftermath after the incident. It happened before 7 30 this morning solo, a town 180 miles northeast of phoenix. Its unclear if all of the victims were cyclists. About 250 people from volunteers to the cyclists were at the Bikes Race when this happened. The suspect driving this truck when he blued straight into the crowd and then led officers on a 3mile chase. Officers say they tried to stop him and he was shot by authorities outside of a nearby hardware store. The suspect is hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Details on the 35yearold Suspect and the circumstances regarding the shooting have not been released but what is clear is the Heart Break and the sadness of this close Knit Community as victims of this Tragedy Fight for their lives. There is a huge outpouring of sympathy and prayers and thoughts and concerns for all of the victims. Everyone is praying. Everyone in our community is praying for the victims. Everyone wants all of the victims to its a horrible event. Its a tragic event. Now its unclear whether the suspect was under the Influence Or Targeting someone in this event or if he is known to police. There is a lot of questions here. So you have got these different pieces moving through the senate and the house right now all trying to reach a place where they can find a proposal. The biggest problem for the bipartisan issue is paying for all of this where you generally have democrats calling for Tax Increases on corporations and wealthier people. On the other end you have got republicans pushing to use unused Covid Relief funds. Also on this there are some concerns about inflation. And this is something that the federal reserve came out with the latter part of last week saying that inflation. Its forecast is for higher inflation than its initial forecast was. There are some polls out now as to how this all ties together with the federal government spending more money, what that could do for prices for americans. And Monmouth University has asked in a poll here how concerned are you that President Bidens Spending Plan could lead to inflation in the result of that, 47 say they are very concerned. 24 say they are somewhat concerned. 17 say they are not concerned. And 11 say not at all concerned. Now, the White House has addressed these issues with inflation before. And their argument is this. They say that the economy is just getting started again after all of these Covid Shutdowns and that that is what is leading to these price spikes, they say that is transitory. We have seen some of the most recent things occur with the pipeline, with the Meat Factory and Others Meat plants and others, so we have got to ensure cybersecurity is included in that infrastructure discussion. This week the Supreme Court sided with the social Service Industry with the City Of Philadelphia. The city had banned the agency from foster program for excluding same sex couples from consideration as foster parents. The case was argued successfully by Lori Wyndham senior council at the Beckett Fund for religious liberty. She joins us now with insight into the ruling and where she thinks future Court Decisions could land. Its not all that common to have a 90 ruling in the Supreme Court. You must have felt good about this one. You know, it was a very exciting day and especially exciting day for my clients who were told by the City Of Philadelphia that they could no longer welcome foster children into their home just because they partnered with Catholic Social Services. The win 90 was huge. Jon what was the Citys Problem with Catholic Social Services . Well, there was a Newspaper Report saying that Catholic Social Services because of its religious beliefs will Marriage Couldnt certify an uncertified or same sex couple, if any had ever approached them. None h they would simply refer to one of the other two dozen agencies who could help them complete that certification and become foster parents. This wasnt, in your view, discriminatory against foster parents. It was just that the Catholic Social Services was because of its religious orientation because of its religious beliefs, it was not going to certify same sex couples to be foster parents, for instance. It wasnt going to make a certification against its faith. There are different agencies who have different specialties and this merely allowed the Foster System to continue to work. They have been doing this work 200 years finding homes for children. They want to continue doing that. So, by unanimous Supreme Court decision, the Supreme Court carved out some relief for religious organizations to express their faith. Its a big victory for religious organizations, what the Supreme Court said unanimously is that philadelphia didnt have a compelling interest in doing this they didnt have a good reason. For taking out Catholic Social Services. In fact, there were more homes for children when Catholic Social Services are to help those in need. Jon it has been suggested that federal officials or government officials, i guess at every level because this is a city case, sort of tried to Weaponize Antidiscrimination Laws and use them against religious organizations like in this case Catholic Social Services. Do you see it that way . I think this was an attempted cancel Catholic Social Services because they have the wrong set of beliefs. This is an agency that served children regardless of their race, their religion, their sex or sexual orientation. They have been doing a good job of that and they want to continue doing so. It was simply unnecessary to try and kick them out of foster care. Jon you know, at the heart of this, as you mentioned, you know, are the children who, i mean, there are hundreds, thousands, perhaps, who need foster parenting who want to be in a home and this was an organization that was trying to make that happen. Thats exactly right. When the city did this shutdown, they actually left beds empty and homes. There are 250 kids waiting for family homes. They were stuck in institutions and group homes. The City Of Philadelphia said no, we will not move these children of homes of people who partner with Catholic Social Services. It was completely unnecessary. I think thats why we won it 90. Jon is this a rebuke of sort to people like Senator Ed Markey of massachusetts who wants to expand the Supreme Court it seems . He calls the Supreme Court illegitimate. Listen to what he had to say back in answer. Im disappointed to say that too many americans question the courts legitimacy. The consequence is that the rights of all americans, but especially people of color, women, and our Immigrant Communities are at risk. We have a stilted illegitimate 63 conservative majority on the court that has caused this crisis of confidence in our country. Jon but, again, this was not a 54 decision or 63 decision. It was 90 decision. Thats exactly right.
