Aaa expecting about 37 Million americans to travel to some destination, possibly some coming to new jersey this weekend. Many of them are being told to pack their patience because the ongoing Worker Shortage is expected to impact the Travel Experience this weekend with longer lines at the hotels waiting to get your rooms, longer lines at the restaurants for a table, possibly shortage on rental cars. Might not be any available left in week fend you havent booked one already. We talked to restaurant owners. They say they feel the strain of this Worker Shortage as well. Watch. We have one cook in our mexican restaurant when we normally have five. A lot of people left the industry a lot of people are still on unemployment. We have money to be made. Theyre a little run down right now. We would need about eight to 12 more people. We could hire them on the spot if they showed up. You know, you can see the weather is really not optimal conditions for a memorial Day Weekend holiday. Many people wont let that stand in their way because theyre so delighted that the mandate for indoors masks is being dropped for fully vaccinated people. A lot of the people here at the beach are headed inside to the restaurants and the bars to enjoy eachers companies and relax. Neil a great scene behind you, lydia. A lot of the passengers i talked to said they feel like traveling before the pandemic in Hotel And Air fare. Theyre getting closer to prepandemic levels as well. The Travel Booking App hopper says youll pay 12 more in may for your tickets compareded to a month ago. Ticket prices are expected to go up another 4 and peak next month. The travelers that we talk to say theyre not bothered by the higher prices. Theyre happy to be traveling again. I booked this flight about 1 1 2 months ago. Really shocked. Looking at other places, other times, a lot cheaper, this weekend i paid more. Theres more people, more cars. Seems like almost back to normal. This is time for us. Weve had enough of staying indoors. While Mask Mandates have been lifted in most places on the ground, theyre still required in the skies and at airports. This altercation where a passenger is seen repeatedly hitting a Southwest Flight Attendant is the latest over that requirement. The f. A. A. Youre reporting, were seeing airplanes that are full and airports that are full and its a great sign of the improvement the country is making. Case counts are down. Vaccines are up and confidence is growing to travel again. Neil how do you advise travelers . Weve heard of the incidents. Theyre more anecdotal. They happen. People fighting over whether its a Snack Table has been raised or someone is wearing a mask or a kid is wearing a mask. How do you advise people to deal with these things . To your point, neil, the vast majority of people that travel are very polite and they appreciate the work that they get from both tsa and our Flight Crew members. To be clear, if theres an assault on either a Tsa Employee or a member of the Flight Crew, we are talking a Zero Tolerance policy. Odds are when that plane lands, youll be met by Law Enforcement and placed under arrest. You face Tens Of Thousands of fines so the message is clear. Treat people with respect, pack your patience. We want to see full planes in airports. We all have to pack patience as volumes return. Neil its interesting. You think about it. Some of the incidents happened when airports were a lot less frequented. Im not saying back to 2019 levels, but close. Where do you see this going this summer . I think theyre going to continue. What weve seen really starting mothers Day Weekend, a steady increase throughout the summer. So well see what this weekend looks like. Were anticipating a very busy start of the travel season. I also think its important to recognize, if were going to be busy through the summer and the fall. Tsa made a priority getting our folks hired. Over 5,000 applicant as week for folks that want to work for tsa. We hired 3100 officers this year between now and fourth of july. We expect hiring of 1,000 more. As we get closer to labor day, well be closer to 6,000 officers that weve heard this year. So tsa is ready. Make sure that people get through our airports in a safe and secure manner. Neil administrator, it took a long time for a lot of people. Many of them probably forgot what you have to go through when you go through the tsa line. So theres going to be delays on lines and thats where the Forecast Administration can start. What is your best advice for those that have to get on a plane in a rush and how soon they should get to the airport and all that . Get to the airport early. As you pointed out, a lot of folks have been, you know, sitting at home and having to travel nor awhile. Airports look different. All of the officers will be wearing masks, passengers will be wearing masks. Youll see shields throughout the airports. So check with the airline and make sure your schedules are current. Evil. 6 Trillion 6 Trillion that is the budget of the united states for the next year. It has never been so big. Spending has never been so much. The Tax Increases to come, never so high. These are some blistering numbers here. Whether it all goes through, theres a couple of features in there that would worry investors. Well get to that in a second. Bottom of the line, its as big as they get. So far a collective shrug in the financial community. Maybe they dont think it will come to pass. Blake burman, what is in there . A lot of things, i guess. A lot of zeros, neil. Put that graphic up there. 6 Trillion. Over here at the White House, the argument that theyre making is the president s economic plan and economic vision is working, they weve. So they say more spending is needed down the line in terms of the american families plans, jobs plan, which is part of this budget. Theres certainly spending in the first proposed budget that the president will be sending to congress. The headline, 6 Trillion for fiscal year 2022. Theyre projecting a deficit of 1. 8 trillion because of it. That would be about 7. 8 of gdp. The acting omb, the director, describes the White House thinking this way. The decades long global Trend Ohio declining Interest Rates as debt has increased gives us the Fiscal Space to make necessary up front investment. Thats part of how the White House views this. Neil, theyre also projecting huge deficits. 7. 5 trillion the next decades. Double that 14. 5 over the course of a decade. Republicans say this is a no go. The Senate Minority Leader Mitch Mcconnell said just to give you an idea, neil, as to how the White House views potential spending down the line in 2031. A decade from now. It calls for a possible 8. 2 Trillion in government spending. Neil . Neil 8. 2 Trillion. All right. Thank you. That is it. Im done with dr. Evil. Thanks very much. I did notice by the same 2031 to which you heard blake allude, at that point our debt to gdp ratio, the debt will be 117 . We will owe more than were worth. That is scary. It is scary. This is something that they clearly buried on a friday because they didnt want the comprehensiveness of their fiscal picture to be added up before the american people. Trillions of dollars in debt and deficits that well have a hard time paying off. Neil all right. Lets talk about how they want to break it down. They are really prioritizing nondefense spending. That will go up 16 . Defense spending, a little more than 1 . What do you think of that . Yeah, its an example of where their priorities are out of whack. The one police that i would propose to have an increase would be in the area of defense and not to have excessive increases for Education And Commerce and Health And Human Services. Were getting out of the response to covid. Covid has been given everything it needs to fight that battle. Then to just continue to grow government. Look, the answer is easy. We need to stop Spending Money that we dont have. This budget is more of the same. I think the interesting part about it, this would have been an opportunity for the administration to pull up a little bit with high inflation that those skeptics are being proved right to some extent. We had the announcement, the highest increase since 1992. Interest rates are going up on treasury bills the last several months to the Acting Director says this would give us a window of time, that window has vanished. Now were looking we have to secure the country. You give us a budget that is 6 Trillion and underfunds defense. Its not fit for the economic times that were in. Neil all right. Might be the case. I know you hear the rap from democrats saying the republicans are the fine ones to watch deficits that grew under your boss and the president before the democrat and the republican before him. So this does seem to be a trend that no one can get a handle on. What happens if we dont . Well, im encouraged this this might be the moment where we have a bipartisan interest in getting after our fiscal health. I think one of the reasons why they dont have the Votes Neil i dont see any of that. Where are you looking where theres a bipartisan effort to get this under control . Well, right now they dont have the votes right now to have to pass their infrastructure bill, the 2 Trillion bill. The next package doesnt have a prayer at this point. They dont have Democrat Votes. Some of that is the opposition to the Tax Increases. I think theres increased concern about inflation and the economy. To the extent they dont have Democrat Votes and republican votes are going to be vanishing at this Point Season if they continue to negotiate in that direction. I think we have a shot to stop the bad bills from being tacked on to our debt and deficits. Neil all right. House republicans launched an investigation into a federal grant to echo Health Alliance which awarded Taxpayer Money to the Wuhan Lab to study the coronavirus in bats in the early 2000s. They want to know whether the lab was conducting research outside the grant that could make a virus deadlier. Two bipartisan bills were introduced in the house this morning. The first it would strip china of sovereign immunity. The second bill would establish a bipartisan commission modeled after the 911 commission that would focus on covid origins response. Lets talk about the elephant in the room. Lets talk about bail reform. The decision that some of these judges are making to release violent predatory criminals back into neighborhoods. Thats a big issue. When you see violence going up all over the country, what is the common denominator . Yeah, we can talk about the pandemic. What about what is happening in the courts . What about is happening in the look at the l. A. Prosecutor. You know, wanting to close reform prisons. So theres a lot of common things that are going on today that some are just not talking about. Its not getting better. Neil all of this Defunding Movement as well, right, chief . Now a lot of the same cities and municipalities that have been cutting funds are now coming back and increasing funds because theyve been dealing with spikes in crime, the looks of which they have never seen. Well be getting some examples. Its a trend now, to reverse that. Its a trend and reversing but the damage is done. Let me tell you what. So we talk about defunding. Lets back off defunding. You want to end qualify immunity for Police Officers. They did it in New York. So what does that do to the psyche of a Police Officer . Im not supported. Why should it put myself at risk if nobody is going to stand up and protect us . Fortunately here in detroit, theres no defunding talk. I mean, theres a few that talk it but the leaders, the people that are leaders dont want defunding. Who is talking to those that live in a vulnerable community . They dont want defunding. Who does it mostly impact . People of color. So its shameful when these conversations are taking place and not taking in consideration who is most impacted by that. Then the other thing, neil, we shouldnt forget, along with Police Officers not feeling supported, now what . Do they shut down . Do they do what is Call Depolicing .
