Despite the absence of wholesale changes to policing there have been smaller changes to Policing Policies over the past year both here in minnesota and across the country. There are ongoing efforts towards other Police Reforms. What has changed in the last year are the conversations surrounding racial Justice And Policing practices. In other words, they can put rivera at the beginning of this crime and certainly put him at the end of this crime but the middle is still murky. In other words, the authorities could have found the evidence some other way, then typically that will come in and the Miranda Warning Violation wont matter much. In this case there is a hybrid of that. The judge did rule that part of the confession was suppressed but the balance of it could come in. She didnt call the police or activists or politicians. She called the people there to protect and serve and weve already seen bigger cities trying to reverse course right now because theyve seen the disaster when crime increases because you have less officers on The Street following this radical idea of defunding police. Bill what do you think the last 12 months has taught us . A couple of things actually. Number one i think it has brought to the fore for all of americans that reforms are needed. The second thing is that we have to such as what reforms would you support . Some of reforms getting more data on no knock warrants. I dont support banning them. You have to understand the implications of why officers use it. I think when you want to look at use of force issues, there are situations where officers need more training in that and i support that. One of the things i think also would be important is that you have officers get continued psychological training and evaluations. It is a tough job. They are in Harms Way every single day and we want to make sure the mental conditions of our officers get all the help they need. Those are reforms i support. A lot of americans would support that. So again there was a lot of Virtue Signaling in the process. This notion we were going to come together. We did that as a country but this notion that we were going to invest more into communities. The majority of them are good and thats where the conversation should be going. But he was only able to do that because he had those conversations before tragedy and on the local level.
