How does raising the corporate Tax Rate that was lowered under the Trump Administration, how does that make us more competitive on a global scale . A, it doesnt and b i think mrs. Yellen is contradicting herself. Think about this. Shes trying to convince other countries, some of them socialist countries to raise their taxes. Why . Because if they dont raise their taxes and we do, well lose our competitiveness. So on one hand she says we will gain competitiveness but shes saying we wont. So what economics 101 book she was reading but she needs to start thinking the opposite. Taking money out of corporations hands after a pandemic or in the midst of one just is crazy at this point in time. Sandra can you explain it, hall . Absolutely. Shes just incorrect. Everybody knows that when you tax something, you get less of it. When you tax corporations, you get less income, which means they have less money to pay employees, less money for capitol to expand. There was a legislative analyst that did a study for the sugary Drink Tax in california a couple years ago. The two benefits that they found from taxing sugary drinks, you get revenue for california and less drinks sold and increase the health of the californians because of the tax. The democrats know this. When you tax something, you get less of something. Youll have less money for corporations which is bad for employees. Sandra we know that it was lowered to 21 from 35 under president trump. Joe biden wants to raise the rate back to 28 . Combined total Tax Rate for many of these corporations, its going to be the highest in the world in many cases. Does that make us more xet competitive . Itsment to curb profit sharing. We should be discussing Bidens Infrastructure Plan and how the Buy American Proposal would incentivize manufacturers to hire more americans to create products sold here at home instead of shifting them overseas, which is what many corporations are doing now. Sandra you took a page from the Trump Page Book with that buy american slogan. Gary, i want to ask you about this. The connecticut governor is saying his state will pay 1,000 bonuses to the first 10,000 longterm unemployed workers that land a job. This is coming off lots of businesses that say the federal Unemployment Benefits are keeping potential workers at home. Gary, look what connecticut is doing to get people through the door a plying for jobs and hopefully get a job and get off of this government assistance. First, we have actual businesses competing with Government Tax dollars being handed out to people that decide to stay home. Now you have to have a state compete with the federals on how much money is being put out by taking another benefit to replace the first benefit. What connecticut should do is like 20 other governors have done and get rid of that benefit. In those states, employment will pick up in a big way and all of these restaurants and Service Industries that are dying for employees right now will get them again. Simple rule, connecticut dont give out another thing to get people back to work. Sandra we know people needed help during the Pandemic And Help was there. At this point, to garys point, 22 states have decided, governors, have ended the federal Unemployment Benefits. Businesses were complaining that they couldnt get anybody to come back to work. Well, the government, the federal government needs to raise the minimum wage. 7. 25 is it doesnt work. The math doesnt add up. When people think about going back to minimum Wage Job and a single parent is thinking about putting their kid in child care, how they can compete with unemployment and sitting at home and making money that way while watching their kids or doing whatever they need to do. The math doesnt need to add up. The companies need to raise the pay and the federal government needs to raise the minimum wage. Sandra 20 seconds to respond to that. Its an example of more Micro Management by the government. They need to get out of the way and stop competing with private businesses. The governor makes no sense. The governor is saying if youve been unemployed for 8 to 12 weeks you can apply for it. If youve been unemployed for six weeks, youre going to stay unemployed for the eight weeks and then get a job. If you leigh the job youre getting paid up front. Youre going to go back and get the money . They cant do that. This is just another basically gimmick, quite frankly, that wont work.
