He said tuesday if you get vaccinated, doesnt mean youll be able to hug your grandkids but do more sooner. Now we know. Take a listen to dr. Walensky. Anyone fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small without wearing a mask or physical distancing. If youre fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic. Dr. Walensky warned if this all doesnt go the way the cdc hopes, they could reneg these new freedoms at any time. Listen. This past year has shown us the virus can be unpredictable. If things get worse, we could make changes. Earlier this morning, the head of the covid response said not everyone necessarily wants to get vaccinated right away and thats okay. Listen to him. You shouldnt take your mark but what you see in the oval office. If youre indoors around other people vaccinated, the cdc says its okay. You should listen to the cdc on that. That message is in contrast with dr. Walensky just said. The science is also very clear about unvaccinated people. You remain at risk of mild or severe illness, of death or spreading the disease to others. You should get vaccinated right away. Looks like the cdc has to coordinate with the White House on how much the biden administration wants to pressure americans. Its a liberation day. I was going to start with that. Maybe it will be an incentive we need for unvaccinated individuals to say okay, it gets me something. Now i can throw away the mask. Now i can do that scientifically. We have known for months now from Israel Studies and the united states multiple studies have shown marketed decrease in decrease in transmission and marked inability to carry the virus once youve been vaccinated. Theres a psychological part of this that is troubling. I got vaccinated in december. Beginning of january, i got my second shot. Its taken me weeks to feel like i wasnt naked if i didnt have my mask on even though i knew i couldnt catch it, i wasnt spreading it. I had to try it out. I went to michigan when there was an outbreak there. I kept learning i didnt need the mask. Thats what people will have to go through now. Martha its a great point. The psychological implications of this, marc and people hunkering down and not wanting to go Back To School and work. The Fear Factor has been enormous. As a nation, how do we move beyond that . Well, we move beyond that by embracing the science, by absolutely doing what were saying today, which is take off your mask outside, take off your mask inside unless you in a close quarter like a bus, like a plane. It makes some sense. The idea that it will decrease the amount of circulating virus. The reason theyre making this decision, martha is because 58, 59 of adult americans have already had one shot and theyre worried they wont get to 12 to 15yearolds to agree. This is to cause some momentum. The fact is that what we accomplished is getting most people vaccinated at this point. Thats why they reached it. The problem is, its too late in the game. It should have been done weeks ago. Its easier say should have, would have. Its not too late but should have been done weeks ago to send the message that vaccines work. These are incredible vaccines and they worked better than anything we imagined. I just watched ted cruz. He said its great but its about damn time he said. A lot of people feel that way. What about those vaccinated, dont choose to be vaccinated and for many of them they had covid and they feel they have antibodies so they want to know why they need antibodies and a vaccine. What would you say to them . You know, you read my mind again. Thats the group i want to talk about. I believe we have to find a way to document. Theres spike antibodies they have. I dont want people that just got over covid to have a vaccine. Down the line get at least one dose. One dose of a Pfizer Or Moderna may be enough for durable immunity. Moths after covid, you wont reget it and wont spread it. They dont need masks inexcept in close quarters. Martha so we have your Vaccine Card. I have a Vaccine Card that shows i got vaccinated. Shouldnt we have a national Antibody Card . If youve been tested you can show that as well . Completely agree with that. Thats what israel has, by the way. If you go to israel, they test you for Spike Antibody if youre immune. We should allow for cards that show antibodies and T Cells to prove that. That is expensive. You should show you had covid, you got over it and you have natural immunity. That absolutely works. Those people should not be confined to any mask. I say remove the mandates period. What is your reaction to what we just learned . It sure is and im glad the biden administration is finally following the science. The doctor just said, weve known this for quite some time. The problem with it is that youre not incentivizing those people that are reluctant to get the vaccine to show Theres Something in it for them beyond being told by some folks from the government its good for you. You dont have to wear your masks anymore. You can conduct your life the way you used to prior to march of 2020. This is where the president himself wearing masks outside, wearing masks around vaccinated people was sending the wrong message. So glad this message was sent today. It needs to be clearer and louder in the same way that putting the mask on was a loud message. Martha masks have been such an important message. Theyve been a message of controversy the whole year. You were very sick with covid19 at one point. Hospitalized. You came out and talked about the fact that you didnt have a mask on in close meetings at the White House. You regret ed it. What reflections on that at this point . I think it was absolutely the right thing to do at the time. This is prevaccine. So i think it was absolutely the right thing to do to not only protect yourself but to help protect others. Were in a different world now when the vaccines were approved in november and started to be distributed in december, those that became fully vaccinated, the whole idea was that you were 95 not to get the pfizer vaccine. Not to get it. Just about the same amount is proven in israel to not spread it. If thats the case, you need to let people to go back to their normal lives. Some of the government, particularly ones in states like mine in New Jersey have been much to controlling about this and not following the science. We need to follow the science. Well, martha, i gets its never to late for someone who has been wrong to redeem themselves. So im glad that randi has had a change of heart. The reality is, it was the Union Bosses keeping kids out of schools and schools closed. So now shes realizing The Public Trust has been lost and trying to regain some high ground in it. The reality is, kids have been hurt. Her solution is to reopen schools, but schools that arent serving kids well to begin with. So she sees that the move to giving parents and families more options has become a momentum that will not be stopped, must not be stopped and more and more families must be able to exercise their control over their Kids Futures. But again, im very glad to hear shes finally trying to get in front of the parade now where they should have been a long time ago. Its a great way of putting it. I think a lot of people have been pushing for this for a long time. The science has dictated that the kids should have been back in the fall or absolutely by the spring. But we have got to ensure that parents have more options other than just to go back to the schools that were failing them before. Reopening them and sending kids back into the same environment now more than a year behind is not the right solution. I would just say this Policy Suggestions that randi proposed are ones that could have been conducted well before pandemic or even in this last year. These are not new ideas. These are ideas that have been championed by myself and many others for more than 30 years. The difference is that mrs. Weingarten wants to have all of them through government controlled unionrun and operated schools. We started to narrow what our definition of physical structure is as republicans and have the president to react to that and vice versa. He was very open to suggestions as were we. I think its the beginning of a good jumpstart. We have already passed a water bill, which is one of the parts of a physical Infrastructure Package that we think is important. We promised to come back with another offer that he will react to and counter offer. We did what we intended to do, which is get next steps, be very cordial and ready to deal. Martha with regard to what peter reported, the president has said if i can get it done without republicans if need be. So i guess the question is he negotiating with republicans or a couple of democrats who he might need to offer a lower number to to get in through on reconciliation and not need any republicans . What is your sense . Quite honestly i think hes a former senate himself. Hes made a lot of deals through his many years in the senate. I think we all felt that he was an honest broker here in terms of wanting to actually do something together that weve traditionally not done together, which is infrastructure. And i didnt i didnt have a feeling and i i dont think any of my fellow senators did that this was an end around play. I think were still in motion here and thats the good news. Martha so yesterday when Mitch Mcconnell came out and kevin mccarthy, the minority leaders, they said that they wanted to redefine infrastructure for the president. Obviously they have all of these things in there, a small percentage of the 1. 9 trillion is roads and bridges and things that we think of, airports. Did you get anywhere in explaining your Perspective Ant what actually infrastructure is . Yes, i think we did. I think he understands that. Martha really . Yes. Im not saying he agrees with it or with everything. Thats the point of a negotiation here. He understands why we knocked some things out.
