Fair enough griff this after we showed you yesterday the administration releasing those empty pictures of the Donna Facility which even some democrats called misleading. Now, if you look at our fox Drone Footage of that area you, which just a few months ago it merely two tents, you are looking right now at five new additional tents built to house the overwhelming number of migrants that are surging. Its unclear if cameras will be allowed inside there today no. Cameras were allowed in the walk through they did yesterday. And thats part of why texas Lieutenant Governor dan patrick says we are just not getting the whole story. Biden administration is totally concealing all information coming out from the border. Griff information we do have dhs daily unaccompanied children from yesterday showing 2 thousand 848 kids currently in hhs care shelters. Its been kind of deceptive what the administration has done earlier in the week as you pointed out. They show those empty pods where hey, look, all the kid are gone. As it turns out they moved them from one tent that was being soft sided facility or whatever the government calls ainsley cuellar calls them tents. Steve the government wants to call them soft sided things. So there was one facility where the kids were being processed and then they moved them out next door to another tent. The picture on the screen right is what they showed everybody but thats because the situation is expanding into other tents. So its not like the kids are gone, theyre on the property. Griff right. They could have been moved to another sector because, remember taxpayers are paying to fly migrants, including unaccompanied children, to other locations. And i think the point you are making, steve, is so important because that number we keep showing the daily number over 21,000, 22,000 ranging from day to day is showing that they are just moving them around. Its like the shell game you see on the street, we should finally point out that the actual sight that was constructed temporary outdoor site of apprehending the migrants right where we showed you mcallen, texas on the river thats Still Standing and they are not allowing the cameras in there either. Now, he may have said a lot of things that you know, he knew how to pull at the heart strings, but, remember, democrats called him the deporter in chief because he has such a hard approach on the border. And then they are going to have to acknowledge that this is a crisis. However, the state Health Department is suggesting that the schools keep the mask mandate in place and that is the problem. So, monica, why were you at that meeting and what did you want to tell the people in the school board . Well, i was at that meeting because kids have no voice of their own. I felt that mine and other parents legitimate concerns over their kids social learning and health needs were totally being ignored. Steve for instance, with your children, how is this mask mandate in the schools not a good thing . Well, first, steve, we have had Health Difficulties due to the masks, one of my children has a deviated septum. So his Oxygen Intake is already significantly reduced. Many deters his ability to concentrate and sleep. We also have another child with speech recognition problems. And his speech sounded makes communication difficult. You can imagine how thats made worse with masks. Steve sure. And appearingy, you were not allowed to speak at this particular meeting, but, if you were, what would you have told the School Board Members . I think i would have told something very similar. My children have also suffered medical conditions, they have gotten headaches, they have gotten dizzy. I have had two pediatricians tell me its because they are wearing the mask. I think that, you know, my children have developed some fear and zoit over this. Steve absolutely. And what was so frustrating to so many parents and thats why they erupted, angie, was the fact that as soon as a State Senator spoke and praised the teachers, then they said okay, were all done with the audience participation part. And that was so frustrating because you wanted to tell your familys personal story just as monica did, right, angie . Thats correct. I mean, we that was the most frustrating thing to us, i believe. I think the school board didnt want to hear from us. They allowed one parent to speak and parent are responsible for Making Choices for their children, not the school board. Steve right. And, monica, ultimately, its frustrating for you as a parent because, you know, its like they have gotten rid of the mask mandate across the whole state except seemingly only in the schools. And its like wait a minute, why is it okay at the Department Store but its not okay at the school. Right, steve, we are not in a State Of Emergency or even close. And, yet, the state extended the mask mandate for schools until the very end of the school year. And we still have no guarantee that they wont reinstate masks under the pretext of Public Health at the beginning of the next school year. And so we feel thats fundamentally unfair to our children. Yeah, the School District put out a Statement Granite District fundamentally believes in a diversity of opinions when shared in respectful and civil manner and will continue to encourage civil discourse as a model for the children which we have stewardship over. So, angie, it sound like they want to hear your opinion but everybody has got to be civil, but, when you are talking about your children, sometimes you have to raise your voice when they say sorry, we dont want to hear from any of you. Thats correct. I mean, you know, studies have shown fear, anxiety, depression, Suicide Rates have jumped and, you know, they dont want to hear about it. And we are their parents and understand things might have gotten a little heated but, you know, all we wanted to do was to be heard and they denied us of that you just heard right here lot of people watching. Now, we cant show you the video because the neighbor doesnt want their home identified but we can play the audio. [bangs] jillian police havent confirmed the sound in the Surveillance Video. What do you think it is. We took that video and audio to the forensic people that the federal government uses, u. S. A. Forensic. They confirmed, first of all, that its gunshots, that they were inside gunshots. Jillian thats not the only sound captured that night, right . There. Was an argument about a divorce. There were gunshots and All Of A Sudden the children are outside alone playing in a cold 42degree Weather School night at 10 30 at night. What is your understanding of the events that happened that night leading up to this . We were all together new years weekend. We were out camping. Thats what we love to do. And during that weekend, she did warn us that she is going to file for divorce. She said its going to be a nasty divorce. We know that she did contact the divorce attorney. We have the intake form. We also know from larrys own mouth that there was an argument after that. She talked about his desperation to keep the marriage together. Jillian is myas husband larry cooperating with the investigation. He stopped. Initially i dont know if cooperating with the investigation but he spoke to me when i went to the house. He spoke to the police. He has spoken to the media at times, at least early on. And then he shut down. We have had word that he has an attorney. Jillian one of the last development to come in this case was on april 1st when police served a Search Warrant at the home behind me. Thats where larrys uncle lived. In video taken from the neighbors property can you see a Massive Police presence. Since then neighbors tell us things have been quiet. When you look on the street corners you see a lot of missing person signs. Right now we just kind of focus on finding our sister and find answers to gain justice for her. Its like almost a fulltime job just to put things together. Separate from the police investigation, people from both near and far who didnt even know the family prior have formed groups where on a regular basis they come tout remote areas like this to search for any sign of maya. Earlier this week they got together to rally support in their search efforts. [chanting bring her home] we have done 11. We currently have 1,000 members. I have so many love for her family. We are going to continue searching until we find her, until we have justice for her. Police have remained tightlipped as to not compromise the ongoing investigation. But we spoke with jeff feign from the cold case foundation. She is acting as a liaison between police and family. More than 55 tips. 23 Search Warrants executed. What does that in itself tell you. That they are doing a lot of work. The case has Gone National so you can imagine with a missing person people are calling in from everywhere. Reporter good morning President Biden long said he hopes to re unite unaccompanied children who have been separated from their parents, but now we are hearing that dhs effort is a lot bigger than that. They are trying to piece back together or reunite entire families. We are very much focused on providing stability to the re united families. Its not something we can guarantee at this point in time. Reporter theyve got their hands full. Sources in the Rio Grande Valley sector tell our colleague, Griff Jenkins, there have been a 450 increase in unaccompanied children at the border. Last year, 5,200. This year, 28,000 so far, and so far, the costs to taxpayers to shelter and care for the un accompanied kids at the border has topped 3 billion , according to the associated press, but white house officials believe much of this attention is mediadriven. What we had to be focused on was like what we were going to do and to us, that wasnt really a crisis. It was a huge challenge, but really a big driver was we understand and know the nature of some components of social media and media these days, and we just didnt want to feed into that. Out in Southern California at cypress college, we ran a clip of a student who was standing up for the place, called them heros the topic was cancel culture and how they tried to cancel paw patrol, the kids show. We played this sound bite last week, since then, apparently, this professor has been fired for anybody who missed it, here is the dialogue between the professor who says she would never call the cops and a kid who thinks the cops are heros. I think cops are heros and they have to have the difficult job but we have to have all of them . Saying Police Officers should be viewed as heros . They belong on tv shows with children . I think they are heros in a sense because they come to your need and come to help you. Who we call when were in trouble when someone has a knife or a gun. I wouldnt call the police. I wouldnt you call the police . I dont trust them. Who would you call . Professor, who would you call . I wouldnt call anybody. Ainsley and then, geraldo the faculty said because this teacher was fired that had a Chilling Effect on workplace safety. The failure to issue a clear and strong statement of support for faculty under the existing circumstances is a failure to be antiracist. It is a failure to protect our most vulnerable faculty, the poor handling of this incident, by the district, has created a Chilling Effect that compromises Academic Freedom and the safety of our workplace. But what about the students, geraldo . Geraldo whether or not this professor should have been fired, she is a knuckle head for suggesting, particularly to female students that they be better off fighting off an armed intruder in their homes than dialing 911. This takes antipolice hatred to a new extreme. If her students were to follow this advice, i could see down the road some tragic crime happening because the student will be in indoctrinated not to involve the police, and whatever it is the emergency. This is more evidence of the fact that the culture war, and cancel culture, that battle is being fought out more than any place else in academia. Schools are now very dangerous places lawrence but geraldo what about the freedom of the students . I covered this for years on college campuses. It is that thought process from the professor that suppresses the students point of view. Its all about her and not about the people that should be learning geraldo lawrence, good point. I thought that the kid here, the student here was brave, was resolute, was reasonable, was a person who understood the importance of the cops and he busted the professor and i thought he said her off her speech, her rhetoric, her rail ing against cops, i thought the kid did a good job. The problem is when you have a powerful professor, a popular professor, in these classes, they really have sway over their students, and my fear is that theyre generating a whole closet industry that is anti police, antisocial, pro anarchy. Lawrence theyre not closet ed they are very clear on what theyre saying. Geraldo its not cool anymore for a professor to go down that road. If the professor is so anti police, then let her state so and let her students have their own opinion, but i think that this represents far too broad an example of where College Professors heads are at these troubled days. The family says they were booted at the captains request over fears that their son might take off his mask due to a sensory disorder. Here to explain what happened is the colorado mother who was sitting right there next to her son, caroline scott. Good morning, caroline. Good morning. Thank you for having me today. Ainsley youre welcome. Tell us what happened. So we were taking a trip to go visit my 94yearold grandmother for the first time in almost two years because of covid. We were super excited. I called the airline ahead of time because my son has something called sensory processing disorder, which is something that he feels sensations more intensely than others would, so for example, sight, touch, things like that, so wearing a mask is challenging but he can do it. Hes been working really hard with his occupational therapist, with his doctors, with us as his parents, and so id called the airline ahead of time just to let them know my son had sensory processing disorder and that we didnt need an exemption he can wear his mask and he will but if he had any frustration or difficulties that we as his parents had the tools and skills we needed to help him to cope with that and to keep his mask on. So when we got to the airport, Southwest Airlines had told us when i called them ahead of time there be no issue and they would just add that information to his ticket. So that was a totally different story when we got to the gate. When we got to the gate to get a stroller tag, the gate agent noticed a note on his ticket and said we need to get a supervisor to approve you all to fly today which was confusing because southwest told me there wouldnt be an issue. So the supervisor arrived and walked us down to the plane, where we were met by the pilot who was super nice and friendly. He gave my son a little set of wings and said you can keep your mask on right, buddy and my son said yup and showed him his spiderman mask and then the captain arrives and walked right past us into the cockpit and the supervisor went over there to talk to him and he was not explaining things correctly. He said something to the pilot of, you know, this kid has some kind of facial issue where he might not keep his mask on. And i tried to interject, i tried to tell them thats not the situation, he can keep his mask on i have doctors notes, supporting us, but they wouldnt listen to me or talk to me. They wouldnt look at the notes so we were walked off of the jet way, the supervisor then said can you 100 guarantee your son will keep his mask on and we said yes and he can do it with our support. So then the trip was back on, we were excited we get back on the plane, my son buckled his own seat belt, mask was on, no issues of any kind, and you could see the captain in the cockpit and he was saying i will not make any exemptions. The rules are the rules, and so were sitting in our seats, then we get paged overhead, and it says that our family needed to press the call button. Ainsley but the rules are if your kid can keep a mask on which your son was doing, then he can fly on the plane. So he never even took his mask off. You know this is just one of those stories. Depends on who you talk to on the phone, sometimes its yes, sometimes no, call back and get someone nicer the next time with any company, but you were just trying to be honest and it backfired on you. You told them the information. Were discriminated against so the supervisor in front of a plane full of people said im sorry your family needs to get off the plane. The captain does not feel comfortable with your family on it today. Ainsley my goodness. We were deplained not for our behavior but disclosing my sons disability which is discrimination. Ainsley its so stressful any way, to fly, before covid. Now you have to worry about the mask thing and were also scared to say anything on these planes because if you arent super nice or you dont stay quiet i feel like they will throw us off so its just so stressful anyway. Im so sorry this happened to you. Did you hear a response from the airline . So southwest has sent me a blanketed statement of a specialist will be in touch within 30 days but thats been it and families are going to be traveling this summer so this is not the first or the last time its going to happen and i dont want this to continue to happen. Ainsley did you get your money back . There might be a refund processing, but the ticket for southwest was less than five times the amount that we had to spend on new tickets on a new airline. Yeah, theres a lot to celebrate this month, a rich history, contributions to americal society but also a time of reflection with the recent rise in antiasian violence. The Asian American, native hawaiian and Pacific Islander community have come a long way each with their own cultural distinctions but all contributing to americas long colorful history. Starting in the 1800s, the first settlers from the asia pacific were sailing across the oceans to find riches in the California Gold rush. More than 20 million Asian Americans today traced their roots back to 20 countries in east, southeast, and south asia. They really have contributed to make this country what it is. Including the trans continental railroad, built off the labor of thousands of chinese immigrants, working dangerous backbreaking jobs, to combine americas two tracks. There are passages you can read of chinese laborers helping dig tunnels through mountains in the bitter winter, and bodies were found, dead. Despite their cheap labor helping build the economic artery across america, chinese immigrants were the first and only ethnic groups to be banned by law from immigrating to the u. S. With the 1882 chinese exclusion act. That may have also foreshadowed a dark period awaiting japanese americans. More than 120,000 were locked up across 10 camps in multiple states during world war ii, after the attack on pearl harbor most of them, american citizens, born on u. S. Soil. During world war ii when japanese americans were inturned the same thing did happen with the German Italian americans. The boom in the Asian American population only started after the 1965 heart seller immigration act that gave preference to highly skilled workers and helped launch the model minority miss. People see asians in general as high earners, highly ed ed educated, disciplined individuals but we also have our new immigrant families who are coming here. Donald moy came here during that time and says he now lives the american dream. Hes owned misam tea house in new yorks chinatown for more than 50 years. There is nowhere better than america. Its a dream. But the recent rise in anti asian attacks has many wondering if theyre welcome here. You worked really hard. Activist don li says Asian Americans today have the opportunity that their ancestors did not. The chance to seek justice. People are afraid to leave the homes, but we are having the opportunity to speak out. Asian americans currently makeup 6 of the population today, but the Fastest Growing group across america, and also a crucial swing vote in future elections. You have to remember that one third of the population voted for President Trump in 2020 thats up from 2016, and also more important, down ballot as well. Weve had six kids under the age of 10 years old get killed. That shouldnt be. Theres some of my kids that have gotten killed. One of them was one of my eighth graders, and he was shot two weeks after he graduated. Kenari was gunned down while playing basketball. Daunte died, right here. Walking home. Easy to just get numb to the headlines, a 12yearold shot, 7 yearold shot, 14yearold shot. When you know these families, when you know these names, and you know their families and their struggles, its not a headline anymore. These are real lives that are being slaughtered on the streets of chicago, by bad policies, inept politicians. Lawrence do you think leadership is doing enough to solve this problem . No, no, i dont think so. Lawrence the Mayors Office no. Lawrence the da . No, people make decisions from up here but they need to come down and really look at whats going on in the neighborhood. All of these programs and all of these are fine, but what are we doing to help the people . Theyre too busy playing politic s. Our biggest problems here in chicago is that you can get caught with a gun and tomorrow youll be out. Within hours, youll be out. Theres no consequences. You know, they got the ankle bracelet but they are still dealing out there. Id like for them to tell my family how its okay for someone who has multiple gun charges together back in the neighborhood, shooting again , they need to start seeing reality of what they do from the eyes of the people most impacted. Lawrence youre a democrat you dont care about the partisan politics. I get a lot of grief from my own colleagues in city council, my kids that are dying because of the games politicians play, and if that means that the democrats im the odd man out, so be it. When theyre getting 33600 guns off the streets within five months, we got a problem. We dont want to address that problem, its going to get bigger. The problem is not the police. Lets go to the root of the problem. You want to fix something . It all starts in the house. They dont start that way. I think a lot of times, its the support that they dont have in the home. Lawrence what age do you normally see a change starting to happen . Im going to be very honest. Right now i have a first grader. Lawrence no way. A first grader hanging around with 20yearolds. Whats he going to pickup from there . Politicians with police can be partners but at the end of the day it has to be the person in the house with their families saying this is our block and this is how we want it to be. When people rise up and take ownership of their own neighborhoods and say i want better and they work for it, thats how you end the violence. Lets talk about this mayor because i think its one of the most powerful ive ever seen in my life and it reminds me of something my parents always said they would say the street life, it leads you to three destinations. Youll be in jail locked up, you got cook county right here, guns , youll get shot, or youre going to be in the grave in chicago, this is what were sigh seeing. This is what were seeing and what were trying to do now is to get them to that side of the wall. To give them hope, education, something that theres more to life than this. Lawrence we reached out both to the Chicago Police department and the Mayors Office for a statement but we never heard back. Guys, we focus in this package on the root causes, so often im on the ground and im talking with the people that have been impacted by it the most and i really wanted to get to how we can improve those environments but we cant leave without calling people that are responsible for keeping these cities safe. The mayor has done nothing lori lightfoot, you got kim fox, the da, whose a progressive came in with this wave of das that George Sorros is funding and they are letting offenders right back on the street and using these kids as shields. One of their main tools they use for recruitment is they want people that are minors because they know if they put a minor out there with the gun, to deliver their drugs, then they will be right back on the street and there is no accountability and im sure many people are saying look, thats chicago. Thats not my city. Its happening all across the country. New york, who i interviewed a year ago, when you go to la and gascon, gal class is dallas is getting ready as well, hes running all of these das and they dont care about public safety.
