In Government Spending requests on unusual pet projects. Youd have to see it to believe it. If your money, we thought you should know. Free beer, free pot, money, gift cards. Its what you might get from the government if you get vaccinated. But how willow are those of incentives actually working . Where do they stand tonight and the effort to ban socalled woke curriculum. We start tonight with the president in louisiana today pitching has an arm a spending plan. White house correspondent kevin corke also tracking how some in bidens old party are worried that it could cause democrats at the ballot box next november pretty good evening, kevin. Good evening, shannon. It is one area where liberals and conservatives actually agree. And they cringe and they shake their heads in disgust. We are talking about the issue of earmarks. And that is when members of Congress Make Funding Requests and usually target projects are concerns that they have in their respective communities. It is money that you the american taxpayer forked over as part of big Spending Bills in washington. And if you thought d. C. Has had its fill of reaching for your wallet, well, think again. Speak of the way i can pay for this is the 40 billion, for example, just making sure the Largest Companies dont pay zero. To speak of all pitching is 2. 3 Julian Dollar American Jobs Plan in louisiana today, he pointed o The States Alien Infrastructure is just one example of how more washington spending can help us all. Its a couple hundred we can pay for these things. Im not talking about deficits. Much of what they call infrastructure frankly isnt, certainly not by traditional standards. Roads, bridges, and the like. They lend latest spending ask is part of a growing pattern of washington. Which returned to washington in late february. 1. 75 million to spruce up a Japanese Garden in portland, 81,004 afterschool programs that include social Emotional Learning and illinois. Until about 250,000 to expand the Michelle Obama library and california california. These are all examples of Community Funding project requests filed by federal lawmakers as earmarks. Despite their public pronouncements to the contrary, they are very popular on capitol hill bid democrats and republicans have asked for almost 6 billion in additional funding for local projects. And that is ahead of the upcoming federal budget. Including 400,004 toilets on a hiking trail. 6. 448 million Gandhi Museum and over 430,000 for meditation and restorative yoga in new jersey. And that is on top of 2 million for Planned Parenthood facility renovations. Over 740,004 inclusion and healthy discussions around difficult issues such as racism and gender in new york. And over 160,004 the development of an equity and Inclusion Program at lincoln university. Speak im not a fan of earmarks and in helping to lead the effort to suspend them, it gives us a time they are out of control. Moderates worry that the spending sprees could hurt their efforts to hold on to the house next year. That is really where the big battle will be in the days and weeks ahead. Now, to go big obviously democrats will likely have to go it alone using Special Budgets Rules in the senate to avoid a filibuster and convincing moderates to back the plan paid by the way, for the record, its not just democrats looking for big money. We are talking about these Community Funding projects, let me to share a couple that released it out to me. Chris jacobs of new york wants 1. 2 million for the canaday gut trolley. And alaskas don young is asking for 18. 6 million to rebuild a fire station in kodiak, alaska. Needless to say, when the 8 all available, a lot of people here in this town have their hands out, shannon. Shannon yeah, across the spectrum. People like to spend money in washington. We are going to keep talking about that and let them know a little bit more. In the meantime, a surprising revelation today from the White House Press secretary. She admitted that her team actually urges President Biden not to take impromptu questions from reporters but they dont love it when he does. Listen to what she said. He takes questions nearly every day beer that is not something we recommend. Hes going to do what he wants to do, because is the president of the United States. Spew on thats kind of a contrast. You think about the former president , trump, who was out there talking all of the time and the reporter constantly following him for they love to take the back and despite how things are for the current president. Its a smart policy when you think about it, because some people are more prone im not suggesting he is more prone than another president , but i think if you look at his history and in particular if you look at is performance, when hes off the cuff its actually good politics to short of sealed him. And theyve been doing this. They did it successfully because the media didnt really press to make sure they had the kind of access that obviously they were accustomed to having with the former President Trump. But i do think it a smart politics, but probably not in the best interest of the American People because, to be candid about it, i want to hear from the president when i have a question as a reporter and frankly as an american i would like to hear the president weigh in on some of these topics. I think for the most part, he tries to avoid doing that. Shannon yeah, i think we get the most from candidates when they are kind of unprepared and on priest and they are telling us what they really think about whats going on. He is the president. Hes going to do what he wants. You and i are going to talk soon we are going to talk some good news which we need a little bit later in the show. I will see you later. Spew On Park Police in san antonio catching a big rig. They say smuggling up to 100 illegal immigrants. As an officer approached the driver at a truck stop near interstate ten, the back of the truck opened up. We are told dozens of immigrants took off. Police did attain about 29 people, at least one person has been hospitalized. Its a developing story tonight and we will continue to monitor that situation out of texas. Following the rollout, vaccine supply is beginning to outpace demand in a lot of places. Leading businesses and local governments offering a little extra to go with their shop in the arm. Good evening, brian. Shannon, good evening. 45 of the total u. S. Population has received at least one dose of the covid19 vaccine. Experts say about 70 is needed to reach her at a community. And now estates are literally betting doll dollars to doughnuts at these incentives. The City Of Detroit is now painn people. To speak of oneonone conversations with your family, your friends, your coworkers is more impactful than anything else that you are hearing. West virginia has now giving young people aged 1635a 100 savings bond as an incentive to convince 275,000 of them to get vaccinated. All of this in an effort to boost vaccination rates. They are down 11 from the previous week and have fallen toabout 2. 6 million a day. Will free money work . Its good according to a survey of over 7200 on vaccinated people. 31 they were more likely to get the shot. For 100, 34 said they were more willing to get vaccinated. But is not just money either. Other states like connecticut and washington, d. C. , are offering a free Alcoholic Beverage at participating restaurants with a vaccine card. New jerseys Governor Offering vaccinated folks of free beer at some breweries. There is also free food, krispy kreme is giving out free doughnuts, budweiser, a free bottle of beer. Free hot dogs and juniors with free many cheesecakes. Im excited, i want to cry. You dont get anything free anymore. Vaccine has a nationwide is beginning to drop has more friends and Family Members get vaccinated. Meanwhile, here in new york city, they are looking to offer Tourists Vaccinations in an effort to jumpstart the economy. Shannon. Shannon bryan llenas for us in new york, thank you. As aggressive policymakers and berries Critical Race Theory, an increasing number of republican led states are moving to block or limit the controversial educational programs. Correspondent matt finn is looking into that for us tonight. Right now virginia is crafting its controversial new curriculum called social Emotional Learning. The state says it is designed to provide equity in education. They say they are trying to instill values in their children. Critics say its even a trojan horse for left wing ideas. For example, at the third or fourth grade level, students in virginia could be expected to learn ideas like, i could understand that people may face different barriers based on their identity and groups in society. And that is not fair. And at the seventh and eighth grade level, students may be expected to learn, i can recognize and describe unfairness and injustice in many forms including attitude, speech, behaviors, policies, practices, and laws. And in the 11th12th grade level, i can work to address my own conscious biases and implicit unconscious biases. There are parents welcoming while others are very concerned. And Public Feedback in virginia, Candace Poling wrote stay in your lane. Parents and legal guardian should be the only ones teaching our children about our personal values such as appropriate sexual relationships and how to treat others. When we group them, should be by structural not to further identity politics. Wrote everyone is equal in the eyes of god. The state of virginia tells fox news that standards are being developed according to a bill that went into effect this year and here is the president of the American Federation of teachers. If we have a freedom to teach and to relay our teaching civics, and frankly i would say science, in a holistic way so that kids can discern fact from fiction and that they can no all history with all its complications. I think thats we will be the better for that. States like idaho and tennessee have already banned schools from teaching Critical Race Theory. Republican lawmakers in texas are reportedly working on similar efforts and Tennessee Republican congressman mark green introduced a bill wednesday that would prohibit Critical Race Theory from being taught at u. S. Military academy. Shannon. Shannon all right, mad to fend for us tonight in los angeles, thank you. First up in tonights real news roundup, another brawl at Miami International airport. This was on tuesday. Police say it started aboard an aircraft where passengers were told to to plane because of an unruly women. In this spilled into the turn them all. At least one woman was arrested following this incident. All right, democratic michigan governor is set to receive a Profile In Courage Award from the Jfk Library Foundation for her actions during the pandemic. That is despite the fact that their aggressive lockdown measures through mixed reactions from president s questions about nursing home covid policy, being caught traveling to florida when she told the people of michigan not jail, and despite a coronavirus surge in midapril, when the state positively rate was over 40 . A new poll from the Atlanta Journal constitution shows that a majority of georgians are not happy with Major League Baseballs decision to move its allstar game over the states voting law. According to the poll, 53. 5 oppose the exodus, just under 37 support it, at about 11 on the fence. Msnbc Guest Making Headlines for his controversial comments suggesting that todays g. O. P. Is a bigger threat to the United States than the worlds most deadly terrorists and terror organizations. Al qaeda, usama bin laden, the taliban, the people who wanted to do harm to our nation and to our way of life in our democracy they got nothing on what this Republican Party is doing. Shannon a new orleans Zoo Canceling an event to celebrate police officers. The reason for the decision same residents were concerned it would be unintentionally divisive. We in the community have to continue to come together and to work collectively, not let the few naysayers dictate our actions. Because they are more supporters of the New Orleans Police Department then there are naysayers of the police department. Shannon a 4yearold boy made a pricey purchase using his moms amazon account. Thousands of Dollars Worth of Spongebob Squarepants popsicles. Amazon declined to refund the purchase, but the mom of three who happens to be an Nyu Master Student was able to recoup the money after a classmate a gofundme page for her. Watch your amazon account, parents. President Biden Provoking questions tonight. Hes the second catholic president in u. S. History and has become the first ever to omit the word god from his national day of prayer proclamation. Great to see you both tonight. Nice to see you, shannon. Shannon okay, so david brody tweets this. When the proclamation came out, he said joe Bidens National day of prayer proclamation has been released and it doesnt even mention god wants. How do you release proclamation about prayer and did not mention god at all. Truly, this is pathetic and not surprising be at chris, what you make of it . For a president to space a much of his identity being catholic, this is amazing. This could have been written at a berkeley tea party. Its just a sign of how far left President Biden will go to pander to his most extreme elements. Im sure hes sincere and has faith, but they are running the asylum here. The proclamation turned prayer into a selfhelp ritual. And according to polling, this is a country were still 80 of america believes in god. Its really a ridiculous proclamation that turns its back on the 4 out of 5 americans who believe in god and see prayer is something. Minorities in the party, they spent too much time reading instead of c. S. Lewis and the apostle paul. Shannon i heard franklin graham, a wellknown pastor and his own right, the son of billy graham, he said may be depressed and didnt even actually so much about the fact that he has the strong catholic faith. Franklin graham sort of giving him the benefit of the doubt thinking, i think may be some staffers who were trying to be pc wrote this. It doesnt necessarily reflect the president s view on the national day of prayer. What do you think . I think that most things that come out of the white house are not written by a president , whether its joe biden, barack obama, if we go back to washington or thomas jefferson. Joe biden sat at the end of every speech that he gives weather to congress, whether its to the American People. And may god bless our troops. Google it, look at all the videos, every time his last line, was a member of the military and may god bless our troops. Joe biden is a very strong catholic. But we have to remember, although many of us think that prayer and god are synonymous if you will or go together, there are some people that dont pray to god necessarily. They may pray to a different entity. So i think whoever wrote it and was in the spirit of inclusion and i dont think President Biden wrote it. I dont think any of the prize president s write those things. I just have to say, Frankly Graham and i agree i would agree with him on this. Shannon who knows, George Washington things may have been less complicated back then. Maybe he actually read it before it came out, i dont know. I want to get earmarks now. We talked earlier about how republicans and democrats do this. Its one of the things people say they dont like about washington. We are going to put up for you for things and ask you, i will read for them, what you think is real and not real. A 3 million bus tracking app, 2 million for a pickle ball court, 900,000 to implement cost efficient models of distant learning, and 1 million for relocation and renovation of a Planned Parenthood center. Chris, i will let you take the first out. Unfortunately i think they are all legit. Im going to say that the bus tracking app is not. Shannon leslie, do you want to take a stab . Im going to say the first three are legit and the Planned Parenthood is not legit. Shannon we were playing a little doublecross on you. All four of those things are real earmarks that either republicans or democrats have asked for. We included two for each party there. 2 million for a pickle ball court, that one is in california. 900,000 for cost efficient models of learning and 1 million for a planned Parenthood Health center. Final comments for each of you about these earmarks. You know, i think its another issue that is kind of been swept under the rug. Theres been so many of the things we have to worry about. Every time we look at the explosion of the debt, we have to go back to earmarks. Its too often we see things like you just pointed out that you could really make a strong argument that each one of those could be funded by local governments and dont have a place being funded by the federal governments. I think many of us remembers pigeons in space and we also remember toilet seat covers. And i think whether its a democrat or republican, the American People get tired of it. Weve all had to come especially this past year, tighten our belts and cut the pork in our own bank accounts, checking accounts, and households. And we expect the same with our tax dollars for our politicians. Shannon these are your tax dollars, make your voices heard. Thank you both. Thank you. An Opinion Piece at Northwestern University Student Newspaper sparking a new debate. Is this headline from Campus Reform sums it up, blaming jim crow says the way white people walk on sidewalks is too racist. Lets discuss it. Welcome back, jason. Im doing great. Shannon okay, i went to read this article because i thought i want to try to understand what this writer means here. This is the part of his Opinion Piece. He said after talking to my black friends about my experience the way that people were walking on sidewalks, they echoed it. People at this predominantly white school would not move out of our way on the sidewalk. He said white people came to expect the rightofway and public spaces and essentially every aspect of our society included the way we physically move through space has been shaved by a racist legacy. I was hoping for more details, whether people were standing side by side, i really dont understand what happened. But he said the way that white people walk on sidewalks is about them wanting to be predominant and wanting them to, you know, be the preferred person to move about in public. To the detriment of others. Yeah, you shouldnt expect any kind of detail. Frankly, i was willing to dunk on this piece after i read it, but then i walked home from work today and on the way home, every time a crosswalk light did not go my way, i realized it was antisemitic. It was coming against me because i am a jew. There are two types of people people who painstakingly dissect something they interpret through this Critical Race Theory lens and they put it into an editorial that masquerades as some sort of deep dive think piece that everyone is supposed to applaud is brief. And then youve got the people who try to decipher the stuff. Wondering if it actually has a point. It doesnt quite make sense on the surface, but its written in a way you wander okay, could he maybe have a point. But i, shannon, would like to pause at a third group of people. A third type. The type who just rejects these silly exercises. Just realize that everything in this editorial is just absolute nonsense. And we can sit back and just call it what it is. Crazy talk. Lets stop pretending that this is a legitimate editorial with legitimate ideas. It does not. People are being taught that everything is racist. And sometimes we need to just call it for what it days, because hes going to grow up and hes going to pretend that what he has to say is legitimate. And people are going to pretend what he saying it is in fact a legitimate going to grow up to be joy reid and we need less joy he reads in this world. Shannon he might get his own show on another network if that happens. I want to quickly ask you about this other piece. Duly noted. I want to very quickly come at the University Of Washington come on at the writer said that spring break reminded me that i cant trust white people. He goes on to say my white peers are disappointing me, following the footsteps of their violent White Supremacist ancestors. Quick comment from you on that piece as well. If you dont go to hawaii or mexico, then you are also called racist because why arent you going to hawaii or mexico . You are put in a position where you are literally if you do, if you dont. So just stay home i guess. And to be called the races. Now vacation is racist. Going places what are we supposed to do . Just give us the rulebook, just tell us what we are supposed to do and really what we are going to be told as just listen to us every single time and shut up. Okay, fine. Shannon okay, we will leave it there for now. Id love to hear from more of these writers if they see this on they want to explain some more. We are all ears. We dont want to hear from these people anymore, please, no. Jason, have a great night and a safe travel home to you and all otherwise. Thank you. Com promo shannon the head of the Justice Departments Civil Rights Division is looking into arizonas private election audits. Principal Deputy Assistant attorney general Pamela Garland setting concerns about Ballot Security and potential voter intimidation provided to the president of the Arizona State senate, past experience with similar investigative efforts around the country has raised concerns that they can be directed at minority voters with potentially implicating the antiintimidation prohibitions of the Voting Rights act. Lets talk about the recounts with article three project president , mike davis and former debbie assistant attorney general, john yoo. Welcome back, gentlemen. Okay, so i want to read something. This is an Opinion Piece. Laurie roberts wrote this in the arizona republic. Unfortunately the department of justice is now acting questions. They should do more than asked, the doj should get out here posthaste to protect our ballots from whatever the heck is going on. And when you come, bring the guys in the white coats. Might come a the feds interested in this . It appears to be a state matter. Its very interesting, we have this pam garland who is a former aclu attorney, former liberal law professor. She was a partisan Democrat Impeachment advocate against President Trump during the impeachment she got criticized for bringing in President Trumps 15yearold son, baron. She is now the top civil rights cop for the department of justice. And thats very interesting that she is bringing shes sending this letter. I was just asked, where were these democrats, where were their concern about Ballot Security for the election . This is arizona trying to do an audit and if theres no problems, what are they worried about . Shannon a couple of things she raises in her letter, the state senate has gotten involved, they are looking over ballots to see if there are discrepancies Voter Registrations for people who may not have actually voted. They are trying to go through and see. They may find nothing, but thats the purpose of this. A couple of things she said, one, they dont like that there are potentially other people outside of the chain of custody who now become a private entity is looking through these ballots. She said that could potentially violate the law. Part of what they are planning to do to either call or visit people to see if they match up with their voter registration, not to tell them how or ask them how they voted, but asked them if they voted. It may be focused on minority voters who then may be discouraged from voting in the future. What you make of her concerns . One thing youd did mention that was not in pams letter was the mention of the constitution. And the constitution come on like with house and senate elections, gives only two states and the State Legislature is the present. Of course, i think its good, common sense for a State Legislator to say hey, lets see where the election worked, maybe we should improve things, we should change things for the next election. The only way i think the federal government has any role at all is that for example a state of the jim crow era were to try to go and harass black or hispanic or women voters to try to get them up to show up. There is no evidence at all but this is going on in arizona and instead, led by a modern president Doug David Modern attorney general, is actually being run by people who see a race is every tree. Shannon i want to play something from a state rep out there in arizona. This is what representative said today. This is a sham. I will not put up for people coming in and in intimidating people in my community. If they are going to do that, they are not going to be met with open doors, they are going to get slammed doors in their face. Michael, we are told people wont cooperate with this effort and that they shouldnt and dig is about intimidation. What do you say . Welcome about is their choice but if they dont want to corporate they dont have to cooperate. Again, as the democrats were opposing this, what are they afraid of . Its an audit. If there arent any problems with the Arizona Election they shouldnt be concerned. Shannon final word to you, john. Im afraid that its a piece with a lot of other things going on with the Justice Department these days. Should have americans very worried. Everything seemed through a racial lens. Using its Constitutional Authority to pick the lectors. I think its actually insulting to the people of arizona and their elected representatives that washington, d. C. , thinks everything they do is racist. Shannon they say out there and arizona come of the leaders that are overseen thus, it will continue bear they are going to be thorough and publish the results that we will all see what they find. If anything. In the meantime, mike and john, thank you very much for being with us. Thanks, shannon. Shannon parents getting really heated over Mask Mandates for young students. Lets talk about masks, the effect of longterm longdistance learning on the impact, the Real World Impact of the pandemic on students with dr. Janette nesheiwat and the parent of two special Needs Children at arlington, virginia, read bushs back with us tonight. Welcome to you both, great to have you both back. Hi, shannon. Shannon read come i want to start with you. Please give us an update. We talked months ago, its all been months for your children out of school appeared how are they . Well, its been a rough year. Our son who is autistic really struggles with isolation. And in the fall, they opened up school in a virtual setting and he was unable to engage in a virtual setting. Combine that with that, he developed and created imaginary world with imaginary friends after a while he was unable to distinguish real from fake. And he started to hallucinate. By the fall he was having suicidal thoughts and now on his ninth birthday he said daddy, can i die for my birthday . Ultimately in november he was admitted to Childrens Hospital for four days pretty snow on six medications and hes doing a little bit better. They said he needs to have in person learning, thats really what he needs. Pure contact and learning. And ultimately the school said, we cant do that. They put them back in a classroom all by himself or what they call In Person Support where he sitting on an ipad with no the people around him except a monitor by his side. Shannon that is just that is a god raging, heartbreaking story. These are real lives, real children, im sure youve heard these stories over and over again. What is the long term real impact on the child like his 9yearold who want to die for his ninth birthday . When weighed against the risk of getting kids back into school and the real risk that does exist from a virus like this. This is just heartbreaking. Its important to understand that Mental Illness doesnt just affect adults. Children experience anxiety and depression as well. And its can be even ten times more stronger. And the impact can be more drawn to mental in the long run for children. Children require social engagement and interaction with their peers. This is what allows for growth and development mentally, emotionally, and cognitively. When a child is in the classroom, when a child is surrounded by their peers, when they are learning, they are expanding their horizons as weve all heard before. They are not just expanding educationally, but they are learning manners, their personality is being developed, their behavior is being influenced. So it can truly have a detrimental impact when we withhold the opportunity for fulfillment and enrichment for these children. Shannon i would expect your kids need engagement, they need things to move forward and not progress. What are your hopes for the fall and what may be waiting there for your kids . Well, for one, we need to get back to five day a week school. Right now, we are essentially limiting school to his home. Hybridenvironment. At least he can be fully engaged. He can come out of his sone hes been in for the last year. I hope that schools can remain open five days a week, but we are still his parents not to let the School System is actually going to live up to their word and saying that they are going to do that. Shannon you and i live in the same area and i hear from a lot of friends in the School District to have no confidence that in the fall its actually going to be five days. Really quickly, dr. , should schools be open . What are the cautions we should take . How do we make this balance, this decision . Absolutely. We have a multitude of data, studies, and trials that the less the transmission of covid between those in the age of five and 17 is extremely low. Its less than 10 .
