We know the group thats it really has struck here in the united states, devastating impact, older people, people that have obesity issues, all of that. Is that the same kind of profile in india . It seems theres more than attack on younger individuals, although older people are very high at risk. This is a variant where we know the actual letters of its genomic code and its different than the others that we dealt with in the u. S. Its called b 1617. They all get numbers. This has several mutations in it that youd predict would make it more effective in getting inside your cells if you happen to get exposed to it. We dont have rigorous data to say whether it is more contagious, but its plausible that it would be and also plausible that it might be more severe for those that get infected. Martha, the reason you start to see a spike in gun violence when the weather gets warm in chicago is because people leave their houses. Hanging out on the streets. The hangouts are social gatherings complicated by social media and perceived insults and this endless cycle of vendetta. The gun violence in chicago is up significantly from last year. Judge last weekend, starting from friday at 6 00 p. M. Till midnight on sunday, there were 36 Shooting Incidents in which 47 people were shot and seven people died. Two people were stabbed during the same time frame. Four months into the year, according to numbers from chicago police, theres 900 Shooting Incidents, a 33 increase from last year, same time frame. The number of shooting victims is over 1,000, almost a 40 increase. Murders are up 22 with nearly 200 killed as we just got through april. Predictably, the gun violence happens more late at night and the Data Shows Gun Violence reaches its peak in the summer months. The worst is concentrated in the trouble areas to the west and south of the city. A positive note, if you will, over the winter we talked about a spike in carjackings. I know the reporter talked about the wormer weather. In chicago, doesnt matter if the weather is warmer or colder. Youll still have incidents of gun violence. In chicago, we have to change the Mindsets Ofdown people in chicago on a regular basis. Right now a lot of groups of young people that are chasing clout. Theyre trying to get more views on their social media in the bloodier they have become, the more views that they may reach with their social media. The majority of the violence is interpersonal conflicts and revenge. We have to do more work on the front end before somebody is shot or killed. Martha i know we talk a lot about root causes. You work on the root causes of why you say that so many young people dont abide by any code. Explain that. There used to be rules in the 80s and the 90s. Some crimes you couldnt. A lot of people dont want to hear this but if they were to implement the Penitentiary Code on the streets of chicago, they would eliminate 70 because people would be locked up.
