Congress. Heres their argument. D. C. Residents have been petitioning for Voting Representation in congress and local autonomy for 220 years. The house will finally address this injust, unequal and undemocratic situation. I have had enough of my colleagues racist insinuations that somehow the people of washington d. C. Are incapable or even unworthy. For my friends across the aisle saying this would lead to the addition of two democratic senators, so what . Martha so what says steny hoyer. Republicans say they want to make sure that they dont lose the senate and the two votes could lock in a lot from their agenda. If they do that, if they achieve that, you would see a transformation of a lot of things in this country. Here we are today pure Power Grab to give two Democrat Senators to the district of columbia. This is not about a balance of power, this is about more power. This is about governmentrun healthcare, a 93 Trillion green new deals, packing the Supreme Court and more government. They want to pack the Supreme Court, elimination election integrity, keep our borders open and prohibit debate in this very house. D. C. Statehood is the next step. Martha so theres the list. Lets get reaction now from Anchor And Executive editor, bret baier. Great to have you with us. Hi, martha. Martha when you look at this, these are exactly the things that we all discussed all the way through the election, right . If democrats did win all three branches of the house and the senate and the White House, they would push for these things. D. C. Statehood, puerto rico, packing the court. At that point all of those things seem far away and radical frankly. Were watching them tick off that List Or Attempt to one at a time. Attempt to. Thats the key here. Because it all depends on what the senate does. In order to get this through, again, youd have to have the filibuster go by the wayside. So far joe manchin, Krysten Sinema say they wont do that. Lets put that aside and say the senate does what they do. Right now its not realistic. The argument for d. C. To be a state and live in washington d. C. Has been around for a long time. It was voted through In The House last june, approved, but fell short in the senate. Theres been people in d. C. That say it is taxation without representation. Eleanor Holmes Norton is a shadow congresswoman, but she doesnt have a vote on the floor. She can be in committees. Theres no senators represented in the senate. They say its not fair to live here. Republicans say on substance thats what the founders wanted. Thats what they wanted to have, this place that was not a state to be the center of government. And as you point out there, they believe this is all about trying to keep hold of power for democrats that have a slim hold right now. Martha yesterday i put this question to scott bolden, the former head of the dnc. Watch this. If the district of columbia was overwhelmingly red based on everything about the need for representation, would you be on this program pushing for two more republican senators from the district of columbia . You know what . Thats a loaded question. Im an attorney. Martha its an honest question. I dont know what i would do. Martha he laughed, you know . Right there its clear what this is all about. They see an opportunity here, no doubt, to have that advantage. As you point out, the founding fathers had a different idea in the Wall Street Journal. They point out that many Hold Influence over the federal government obviously that live in washington d. C. , whether they work for the government or their contractor says theres this other proposal that would mean moving the 700,000 people or a good chunk of them back to maryland. Explain how that would work and is there any chance that anybody would be satisfied with that outcome, bret . No. I think theyre trying to figure out ways to argue around the edges here. The proposal is that youd have the federal buildings it would shrink, the d. C. Government would shrink. The plat of what was federally controlled would shrink. Basically d. C. As a state would be 66 square miles. It would be 1 18 the size of Rhode Island as a state. In population, it would be more than vermont and wyoming. So democrats say in population, thats important. I think that what youre going to run up against here is that this is the first in a series of bills that the house is going to move including hr1 to kind of Bombard Manchin and sinema that is preventing the filibuster from going by the Way Side saying youre not giving representation to the point that you wear them down and somehow some way they relent on some big bill. I dont think its going to happen, but i think thats the strategy. Martha of course, the whole like Big Kahuna is the filibuster. If they could wear them away and as you point out they seem to be holding steady for now, but the president seems to be have changed his mind about the filibuster. He once said that he would never want to see that overturned. Now hes on board with d. C. Statehood and he seems to be bending in that direction. How solid do you think that Sinema And Manchin are on the filibuster . I talked to them or their representatives a number of times. I think theyre solid. But you can hear by my answer that im not exactly sure that that holds the entire time. And so i do think that this is going to be a bombardment. Youre going to see a lot of arguments made by democrats about fairness. You know, when they brought Alaska And Hawaii in as states, they said that one was democrat, one was republican. That was balanced. It actually turned out that over time, they flipped. The republican and democratic nature of those states. This clearly, if you look at the Voting Pattern of washington d. C. Is about 93 democrat. Sometimes 96. So republicans are right. It would be two democratic senators forever. They think this is a Power Grab. Martha theres a question of puerto rico. What kind of impact that might have down the road. Thanks, bret. See you at 6 00. You bet. Martha speaking of taxation, bret has a new special on fox nation. The special is called the unauthorized history of taxes. Very interesting story. Encourage you to check that out. Thats money for Security Today and money for retirement tomorrow. Refiplus, its only for veterans and its only from Newday Usa. So this is quite a onetwo punch. Two requests of our foreign adversaries and maximum pain for american citizens. Martha senates top republican saying the green new deal, parts of the Infrastructure Bill will be very painful for many americans with regard to their jobs and their industries in a lot of cases. President biden pledged to cut Americas Greenhouse Gas emissions by half over the next nine years. Thats double what the Obama Administration said was feasible and doable. China is not backing off their stance on this and their agreement is that theyre going to hit their Peak Number of emissions or Peak Rate of Greenhouse Gas emissions somewhere near 2030. And then they say theyll begin the work of cutting back and get somewhere by 2060. So the president made a big announcement in front of a unique Zoom Call with 40 leaders including president s Putin And Chi of china. Mike emanuel has more. Good afternoon. President biden committing the u. S. To cut emissions by as much as 52 by the year 2030 laying out his vision earlier today. By maintaining those investments and putting these people to work, the united states sets out On The Road to cut Greenhouse Gasses in half by the end of this decade. Thats where were headed as a nation. Russian president Vladimir Putin saying moscow is interesting in galvanizing international cooperation. A leading Senate Republican said this is not just be the u. S. Taking unilateral action. You cant solve the problem unless India And China are involved. As for china, the vice Foreign Minister sounded skeptical. With 1. 4 billion people, these goals are not easily delivered. Some countries are asking china to achieve the goals earlier. Im afraid this is not realistic. Experts say achieving president s goal could require a major retooling of the american economy. Martha thats clear interesting statements from china about how theyre trying to get anywhere on this before 2030. Mike emanuel, thanks. Good to see you. Lets bring in general jack keane, chairman of the institute for the study of Water And Fox news strategic analyst. Theres a economic Warfare Element to this, general. When you look at the united States Posture on this and everyone understands the attraction of saying, you know, well go first. This is a noble goal. So were going to stick our neck out there and go first. But it has such an impact on our u. S. Economy that china is going to sit back in 2030 and just keep growing and polluting the way theyre doing. Yeah, you know, china as we speak are opening coalfired plants every single week of the year. Brand new plants. They are going to continue to do that actually for decades to come. Its actually true. What happens at these conferences is the united states and other countries establish these very aspirational goals and they frankly outdistance the reality in terms of what the actual outcomes are. China is a case in point. If were going to make rapid change in our attempt to achieve a worthy goal, im not submitting im not going to argue against making changes given what is happening to our climate, but if were going to do that at the expense of our economy, that is a national security issue. The united states needs robust economy to help keep the world stable and reduce the temptation for conflict and competition, which leads to strife. So yes, i mean, these are very serious issues. And national Security Community for years, republican and democratic administrations both, to include the Department Of Defense in our Intelligence Agency have cited the fact that Climate Change is a bona fide national security issue. Its something that we have to pay attention to. Martha general, i want to turn your attention to the movement that is said to be happening on the russiaukraine border. Theyre instructing the troops to pull back, a moment ago, we heard from the Chief Department Spokesman ned price on this. Watch. We made clear in our engagement with the russian government that it needs to refrain from escalatory actions and crease whats going on in ukraine including the military buildup in crimea. Martha so is this Move A Win for the biden administration, general . Well, i think Putin Right from the outside, his goals here, so our understanding strategically what putin has always wanted is a sphere of influence over the former Soviet Union states. Most are in nato. He still intimidates him. We have ukraine, not a part of nato but they want to be a part of the e. U. And nato. They have made overtures. The west has made overtures to ukraine. This is what putin is about here. He wants to stop ukraine from any integration with the west. He doesnt want to dominate and control ukraine by invading it. That will be a burden and far too great for him and he will get push back from his own domestic population. The movement of the forces was more about a coercive Military Demonstration to push back on europeans and by and large has worked. They have been quiet quiet. And to push back on the ukrainian president zelensky. He wants to get zelensky to make more concessions. Guess what . He just raised his hand and said i want to talk to you, mr. Putin. Lets negotiate. This is a pattern that putin uses often. Increase violence, the threat of violence to gain political leverage. Thats what hes doing here. Martha intimidation, trying to get them to back down. As you point out, president zelensky in a very tough spot here is wants to talk. General, thank you. Always good to see you. General jack keane. So the push underway by Mike Pompeo for a return to the Trump Administrations maximum Pressure Campaign against iran, which as you know has been coming apart. Thats next. This is wealth. This is worth. That takes wealth. But this is worth. And that thats actually worth more than you think. Dont open that. Wealth is important, and we can help you build it. But its what you do with it, that makes life worth living. Principal. For all its worth. Martha biden white House Signalling that its open to concessions to get iran back in to the nuclear deal that President Trump pulled out of. Meanwhile, former Secretary Of State Mike Pompeo is joining forces with some house republicans to return to the maximum Pressure Deal in allegelation called the maximum Pressure Act that would get back to the tough posture that the Trump Administration had against the iranian regime. One of the republicans that is spear heading this Effort Talks with us. First, Trey Yingst In Jerusalem. Hey, trey. Martha, good afternoon. The biden administration has reportedly signals a willingness to reduce economic pressure on iran as talks about the 2015 nuclear deal continue. Sources familiar tell the Wall Street Journal that the united states may ease sanctions on certain part of the iranian economy including critical Oil And Finance sectors. The timing of this story is interesting. The parties to the joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action wrapped up five days of meetings this week in vienna, austria. A representative of the russian delegation said a political solution is still far away but talks have moved to a green on specific steps. This is a delicate negotiation especially for the united states that faces immense backlash from ally israel. Security officials will travel to d. C. For conversations. Though a gap in views remains an issue how iran should be approached. Leadership is looking for a diplomatic Victory And Leadership In Jerusalem is continuing to act militarily against iran and proxies in the region. This is was on full display when israel launched strikes in syria. The syrians responded with antiaircraft missiles, which of which flew 150 miles in israel before exploding midair and raining down shrapnel. There was an Interception Round that missed its target. The Israeli Defense Forces struck where the launch originated. This gets to the core of the israelis. Near very concerned that the united states does return to the iranian peace deal. Martha thanks, trey. Republican Congressman Nicole Maliatakis joins me now. Thanks for being here. Friday iran announced that they had enriched uranium to the highest levels ever. So why would that produce a moment for the united states to say that theyre willing to back off on some of these sanctions if you are willing to come to the table . Thats right, martha. I think that everyone should be concerned that President Biden is looking to waiver on what was a maximum Pressure Campaign by the Trump Administration. We as members of congress want to make sure that were playing a role in this process and that theres some oversight. That is why weve introduced legislation that would require a return to the iran deal to be ratified by the senate in a treaty. This is something that we feel very strongly that the same negotiators that were the ones that negotiated the iran deal are playing diplomats and representatives for the biden administration now. Its deeply concerning that they would consider lifting sanctions without making sure that theres a number of concessions and particularly measures that we want to see put in place, that would include stopping funding to terrorist organizations, ensuring that we see the return of hostages, particularly mr. Namazi that they were supposed to return him after the last deal and never did. Theres a lot of issues here. Speak to our allies and speak to the uae or israel, they say they dont want to return to the iran deal. That is something that we need to be looking at. Quite frankly, this has weakened iran. It has sort of alienated them and were seeing the success from the abraham accords, new relationships for israel. Martha we saw a change in the dynamic when you saw countries that were not typically together on a Lot Sort of aligning themselves and even talking to israel. Really isolated iran in a very difficult way for them during the trump years. What role can the former Secretary Of State Mike Pompeo play in this and is there its pretty close between the house and the senate, republicans and democrats. Do you have democrats willing to sign on to this act . Seems that we may have support from some democratic colleagues. I think what the Secretary Of State can do is openly push this instead of doing it Behind Closed Doors as his predecessor had done, undermining him. Hes doing it publicly and making sure that we fight to ensure that we are getting these concessions much needed, complete access for inspections, including Ballistic Missile as well and all of that needs to be part of this discussion. Martha very quickly. Im out of time and youre short as well. But is there any suggestion that the Prime Minister of israel, Benjamin Netanyahu might speak to congress . It was uncomfortable for the Obama Administration but is that in the works . I hope he pays us a visit. Martha have you invited him . Im not invited him but i had conversations with him early on when i was sworn in, part of a bipartisan group. Weve had discussions to hear their concerns. Thats a good idea and perhaps i will extend that invitation. Martha thanks, congress woman. Good to have you here today. Coming up, Arizona Governor doug doocy. He declared arizona in a State Of Emergency based on the crisis there. Join us for his reaction that Vice President harris will travel to the region, to the northern triangle, but shes not going to go until june. One day Vice President harris is in charge of the border, then a few days later shes not. Refugees are encouraged and then theyre not. The wall is stopped. And then maybe not. President biden, we are getting whiplash out here from all the mixed signals youre sending. Heres exciting news for Veteran Homeowners who need cash. Refiplus from Newday Usa. [ Engine Revs ] for those who were born to ride, theres progressive. Martha its been 29 days since this. Ive asked her, the v. P. Today because shes the most qualified to do it to lead our efforts with mexico and the northern triangle. Martha so after declining invitations to the border by officials to tour the facilities, to get a firsthand look at the crisis ongoing there, the administration does call it a crisis, now the White House says that Vice President harris will go to invest great the Root Causes of the migration and will do that in june with a trip to guatemala. So today she held a meeting with several foundations, including the open society foundation, which was founded by george sorrows and the rockefeller foundation. She took no questions from the press. Arizona Governor Ducey is with us. What do you think about the fact that we have a plan, the Vice President will go but will go in june . Well, this is not a plan. This is no plan. Theres no sense of Urgency Or Purpose in this administration. Just yesterday i stood in front of a wide open border in yuma, arizona where Drug Cartels, Human Traffickers and Child Sex traffickers can stream across and take advantage of people in the worst possible situation. We need attention on this right now in arizona. I have two united states senators, both that are part of Vice President Harris Party that are also calling a meeting in the border, calling up the national guard to support ice, cbp and the border patrol. Thats what we need from the biden administration and we need it now. Martha youre dealing with it right now, as you said, day to day with the people that live along the border and the situation along the border. Shes going to guatemala. She sat down with a number of foundations and they had a discussion about the Root Causes. Why is it that so many people want to come to america. Heres what she said. Were looking at drought in an Area And Region where agriculture is traditionally the more important bases for their economy. Were looking at what is happening in terms of Food Scarsty as a result of that. In fact martha what do you think about that . What goes through your mind when you hear that . Let me be very clear. This is a Border Security issue. This is a federal issue and federal land. Border security is national security. It also results in public safety. This is not something that will be solved by talking to foundations and doing Zoom Meetings with people in the northern triangle. This needs the full Force And Support of the federal government. Its not only a border crisis, its a humanitarian crisis. Weve had over 170,000 apprehensions at the southern border. This is as bad as its been in 20 years. Theres 18,000 Migrant Children in the care of the federal government. The federal government is not a very good parent. The administration, the biden administration is giving off signals that is allowing Drug Cartels to take advantage of these families. Theyre often giving their life savings. The children make this dangerous journey, sometimes they die on the journey, sometimes they transport drugs. The young women are sexually assaulted. Its a Travesty And Anything but humanitarian. Martha its horrifying when you lay out what people are going through on this trip. Theres people sitting around a table talking about Root Causes. The one thing that i didnt hear brought up is the motivation, do you come to the united states because we are so generous that there will be healthcare and theres schooling, theres transportation in the place you want to go. Why wouldnt anyone want to come . When i hear people talk about drought and larger issues, i dont think theres a lot of mystery about why people want the Root Causes of the migration. Have they changed, the reasons that people come . President trump and the previous administration had done so much to solve and stabilize this problem. President biden raised his hand and said people illegally cross the border can have free healthcare. He changed the migrant protection policy, changed title 42. Hes provided incentives to make America A Magnet so the Drug Cartels can exploit these families and children. Martha thats why the president Of Guatemala pointed out the said things. President biden is called the migrant president and thats why theyre coming. Thanks, Governor Ducey. Thank you, martha. Martha coming up, Dan Henninger said today that President Biden is folding to mindless wokism. He says the country as a whole he fears is in deep trouble for a lot of reasons. Martha coming up, Mitch Mcconnell announced that South Carolina Senator Tim Scott will deliver the republican response to President Bidens joint session address, which is next wednesday calling him one of the strongest leaders in our republican Senate Conference and one of the most inspiring and unifying leaders in the nation. The president will make that address on wednesday night. Bret baier and i will be there to cover it. We know that senator Tim Scott will provide the response to the joint session address. Police releasing a frantic 911 call and the Body Cam Footage from a fatal shooting in columbus. Officer as arrived as the girl fell to the ground. The officer on the scene yelled at bryant who was pinned against the car before he fired several shots to stop her. Now theres criticism of this killing from the White House. Watch this. The killing of 16yearold Mikaila bryant impacts the black and latino community. Our focus is on working systemic racism and implicit bias. Dan henninger and a Fox News contributor wrote a moving piece in his Wonderland Column on this in the Wall Street Journal. Emily campangno. What does through your men when Jen Psaki talks about this . Its sad to hear the spokesman for the president of the united states engage in what i can describe as mindless wokism. By the time she said that, many people had scene the police footage, the Body Camera of what actually happened. It was clearly a situation in which this woman was trying to kill two people with the knife. The police had about 12 seconds to response after they got out of the car. It was a Case Study as the police were called to deal with a highly deadly situation. For Jen Psaki, speaking for the president of the united states to say this is an example of Police Abuse and systemic racism in society i think diminishes if idea of that. Many people are trying to address it in good faith. When she talks about something like this as simple systemic racism, it makes People Recoil and ask what is the president of the united states talking about. How detached from reality can they get . Martha emily, what is your reaction . I agree, dan. This oversimplification Knee Jerk Reaction from the commanderinchief frustrates all of the efforts by americans that are working for meaningful change and undercuts the millions that are supporting Law Enforcement. The prosecutor actually in the Derek Chauvin Trial did a good job of drawing that line saying this is not an anti police prosecution. He demonstrated the position that you can support Law Enforcement while at the same time being critical of bad behavior. Joe podesta said a, believe your eyes. That was the final admonition of the prosecutor for Derek Chauvin. And Jen Psaki, believe yours. Who will speak up for that defensive young woman in pink whose life that Law Enforcement saved. Who speaks up for those . Martha its a great question. I have to say, dan, i had one eye on duante wrights funeral. We all watched that story unfold last week. You see Al Sharpton and the parade of people that always seem to arrive when these kinds of tragedies happen. Today we looked up, theres 441 children under the age of 18 in this country that were shot and killed in violent situations just in 2021. Okay . So im asking where are all of these people . Where is Jen Psaki for those children, for these individuals . Theres a lot going on out there in this country. Were in very tough shape in a lot of ways as you write about today, dan. Thats right. The day of the Derek Chauvin verdict, a teenager was found dead, murdered in a house in minneapolis. The 21st such murder of the year in minneapolis. Theres been 100 in new york, 97 in los angeles. Yeah, the question is, where is the sympathy for whats going on there . This is one of the problems people are having with this argument about police brutality. Theres a lot of violent crime in the cities around this country. The critics of the police seem to be suggesting that if police practices changed or policing was even reduced that the left arguments that somehow this violent crime would diminish or go away. It seems illogical. So the question is what precisely are they preposing that the police do to end is this level of violence happening in americas cities right now. Martha its a great point. Feels like yesterday that we talked about how low crime levels were in so many places across the country. We had covid and now we have places where Homicide Rate is up 60 , 70 in our cities. There needs to be somebody talking about this. Addressing how much has degraded in our country over the course of this past year in so many ways, even beyond what has happened with covid. Emily and dan, thanks very much for weighing in today. Great to have you with us. Thank you. Martha so weve got a new up sewed of The Untold Story podcast. I spoke with leo terrell.
