Buckingham palace. The 99yearold husband, of course, of Queen Elizabeth Stand Ing beside her as they parented four children together, eight grandchildren and then welcomed ten great grandchildren, many of whom will gather to remember him today. He was born a prince of greece and denmark, gave up those titles when with as a young Naval Officer he caught The Eye of young Princess Elizabeth and married her at the age of 21 and served her and the United Kingdom for the rest of his days. His proudest association was with the british military, a member of the greatest generation serving in World War ii in europe and in the pacific. He was actually in Tokyo Bay On The Last Day of World War ii to witness the signing of those documents. Today more than 700 members of the british Armed Forces are honoring him with their participation in his funeral. Correspondent David Spunt has a look back at Prince Philips extraordinary life. Reporter for seven Decades Prince Philip was seen as the rock to the worlds most popular monarch, exemplified by a life of loyalty, service and duty. Behind the scenes his royal highness, the Duke Of Edinburgh, held a more important title, devoted husband and father. As you can imagine, my family and i miss my father enormously. My dear papa was a very special person. He meant so much to so many people. Reporter Prince Philip traveled the world carrying out some 300 public engagements a year. As a Royal Navy officer, he served in the second World War and was in Tokyo Bay when the japanese surrendered in 1945. We didnt have a all these little things built up to suddenly feeling life was different. Reporter two years after the war ended, philip married Princess Elizabeth at westminster abbey. She was 21, he was 26. After the death of King George vi in 1952, elizabeth was crowned queen with philip by her side. I think we owe him an enormous debt of gratitude really for the very great help he gave the queen. Reporter Royalty Ran in his blood. He was born on june 10th, 192 is, as Prince Philip of greece and denmark. His father was greek, his mother british. He was a stable figure in the United Kingdom, but his popularity grew internationally including in the united states. He had relationships with most u. S. President s beginning with harry truman. During this visit to the White House in 1951. His portrayal in the popular Netflix Series the The Crown shows a softer side, rarely on public display as it was in 1997 after the death of Princess Diana. Prince philip promised his grandsons if they walked behind their Mothers Casket, he would join them in support. Prince william wrote i will miss my grandpa, but i know he would want us to get on with the job. Harry added, he was authentically himself with a seriously sharp wit and could hold the attention of any Room Due to his charm and also because you never knew what he might say next. In 2017 at 96, Prince Philip retired from public life as the queen continued her public engagements. He spent a month in the hospital earlier this year. He died at Windsor Castle friday, april 9th, after almost a century of life and a marriage of 73 years. The main lesson that weve learned is that tolerance is the one Essential Ingredient in any happy marriage. It may not be quite so important when things are going well, but it is absolutely vital when things get difficult. And you can take it from me that the queen has the quality of tolerance in abundance. [laughter] reporter and, martha, im right now in wilmington, delaware, with President Biden who praised Prince Philip. He had a lot of nice things to say about him. Prince philip would have been 100 in june. Meanwhile, his widow, the queen, Queen Elizabeth 6 00, shes 94. She will be 95 years old this coming wednesday. Martha . Martha David Spunt, thank you very much. On the righthand side of your screen, you see the Long Walk which proceeds from Windsor Castle and, as i said, its a beautiful, sunny day in the United Kingdom. Im joined now by Greg Palkot who joins us live from his Post Today at Buckingham Palace. Good morning, greg. Reporter hi, martha. I can confirm that it is a beautiful, glorious, warm, sunny day here in the u. K. , and those can be rare. Beautiful blue skies, a great day for celebration of a great man. Youre right, im here at Buckingham Palace, thats the London Residence of the royals about 20 miles away from Windsor Castle where most of the action will be today the, but even here there are flowers being brought and respect being paid to this great man, Prince Philip, and his passing. This was in the early planning, martha, for this funeral, this was going to be the start of a 22mile Procession from here to windsor for the funeral. Included in that was a special Land Rover that was designed by the prince, a Land Rover hearse. But as weve been telling our viewers, covid19 restrictions has collapsed everything or, and so everything will be conducted inside the walls of Windsor Castle. Were also reassured it will be moving as if it was a large event. A private photo was release by the Royal Family overnight of the queen and the prince. Weve been hearing all this past seven days, march that, about the ad my ration people have admiration people have for what the prince has done for charity, being a representative of this country, but what we kept hearing again and again and again, that he was there for the queen. He was a rock for the queen. That was his most important job, to support the queen through, yes, decades and decades of service, and the queen certainly appreciated it. Now, there are other Side Dramas going to be playing out Here Today, martha, that well all be watching. Probably the biggest one for american audiences and others is whether theres going to be any kind of reconciliation between Prince Harry and his brother, Prince William, and his father, Prince Charles. This is the first time they have been together since that infamous oprah interview. In the ceremony itself, we learned the two of them that is the, williaming and harry, and charles for that Matter Wont be standing together, wont be walking together. There will be separation. Whether thats just coincidence or on purpose, we dont know. We with also know theres got to be Sidebar Conversations in private and perhaps, again, maybe some kind of reconciliation. The Funeral Set to start in the coming minutes really, the procession first and then the funeral. According to Prince Philip, this is low key. Of its not just about covid19, he didnt want a big, staged funeral, so this is called a royal ceremonial funeral. There will be no sermon, there will be no eulogy, there will be no readings of prayers by Family Members. This is strictly by the book, a strong religious ceremony, a strong remembrance of what hes all about as well as his allegiances to all the various arms of the military. I think thats going to be the most impressive part about this. I want to hear The End of the funeral though, martha, when the bugles are blasted and the whistles are blown9 and the marines and the naval as if we were on a ship. But right now, again, were outside Buckingham Palace. What happens at Windsor Castle is happening in the coming minutes and hours. Mourners are gathering, and we are getting ready for quite an event. Back to you. Martha Greg Palkot at Buckingham Palace, and just to take a moment and take in the scene, lets take a shot of the interior area of Windsor Castle. And we have just seen a stunning display, a procession that went through the grounds of windsor and now is inside the area of Windsor Castle which is, obviously, a very large enclosed area. On some of these shots, you can see the keep in the background which is that large Round Tower that you think of when you think of Windsor Castle. But this is really home to Queen Elizabeth. He has said before that Buckingham Palace is the office, so to speak, and Windsor Castle is home. Its about 22 miles, as greg was saying, from London Central and from Buckingham Palace. But this is where the Queen And Philip have spent most of their married life when they werent traveling, always looking for opportunities to get to windsor and, of course, their other palaces, Sandringham And Ball moral up in scotland as well. St. Georges chapel is the chapel where you will see Funeral Service this morning which is part of the complex At Windsor. I want to bring in nile gardiner, former aide to former british prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and director of the center for freedom at the heritage foundation. Nile, great to have you with us this morning. Your thoughts as you watched this early part of the Ceremony Today which is just a stunning display of military Outpouring And Precision as always. The british are known for their ability to carry off events like this in a great way. Nile . Good morning, martha. And what an incredible day in london. And incredible scenes from windsor just outside of london. And today, you know, we remember and celebrate the life of an extraordinary man, a great War Hero, Prince Philip. And also, of course, the man who was at the side of Queen Elizabeth for 73 years. One of the greatest love stories, i think, of our time in many ways. And Prince Philip was a hugely popular figure with the british people. He was in many ways the heart of the Royal Family, the rock of the Royal Family, and he was someone who was greatly loved and cherished by the british people. And we see that reflected today. And we also, of course, see today a very strong Military Element to todays services. And Prince Philip was a War Hero in World War ii. He fought in numerous naval battles. He represented that great wartime generation that stood up to tyranny, that freed the occupied territories in europe. The generation an understated affair. He designed his own hearse which were going to see shortly are, a Land Rover. It is a very straightforward service. Ive gone through the service, and as Greg Palkot rightly points out, there will not be a eulogy or sermon. It is a very straightforward religious event that were about to see. Yes, thats absolutely right. And Prince Phil inwas in philip was in many ways a very humble man. He was a low key figure in every respect. He did not want to have a estate funeral. He wanted a more low key ceremony, and thats what were seeing today. And he was in every respect an officer and a gentleman, a warrior, a prince who really lived his life for the british peoplement so this was people. So this was a life of service, a life of dedication, and this Ceremony Today was actually poland by the prince planned by the prince with real militarystyle precision. It has his imprint, his spirit, his heart in every aspect. Martha nile, thank you so much. Nile gardiner, well be back with you in a moment, and were going to take a quick break here as we watch special coverage of the funeral of Prince Philip continues as we we await the departure from Windsor Castle of the members of the Royal Family which will happen right after this. Martha welcome back, everyone, to our special coverage of the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke Of Edinburgh. You aring looking at the Land Rover vehicle that was designed by Prince Philip himself to carry his coffin throughout the course of this ceremony. Were watching all of this. We just saw a moment ago his carriage. He was a Carriage Racer with two ponies, his two fell ponies that were pulling that carriage, and on the seat was his hat and his gloves folded next to the driver of that carriage. It was a moving scene. It was something he loved to do. He didnt start racing those carriages until he was about 50 years old. But a moving moment as that carriage came in, and now we see the hearse as it is stationed outside of this gate at Windsor Castle, and we expect that that part of the procession will begin shortly. I read this morning that he changed the color to a dark green, a sporting green recently, and he was involved in all of the smallest details of the construction and the design of that vehicle including having stops put in place in the back of it to secure the coffin. His coffin is made of wool from a company Called Hainesworth in that he discovered years ago. Hes an environmentalist, and he wanted to have natural elements to his service. Its an electric vehicle, but by The Way by The Way. Joining me now by phone is our foreign Affairs Correspondent based in london, Benjamin Hall, whos live at Windsor Castle. Benjamin, good morning to you. Your thoughts and the feeling in windsor as we get started this morning. Reporter morning, martha. Its quite remarkable. This is a wedding a funeral, rather, that has been planned for decades. Prince philip has had a hand, it had a code name, and suddenly it changed. What we would have expected to see here in windsor is tens of thousands of people lining the streets, the parade coming all the a away from london and the procession. Instead our [audio difficulty] everything is happening inside, and the police and the Royal Family have urged people to stay at home and watch this on the television. If as such, its very much going to be [audio difficulty] quickly put together in the last few weeks so that people can safely adhere to covid restrictions. But more than anything else, the people here all remember Prince Philip as a man who was very traditional but also very progressive. They remember him their whole lives because [audio difficulty] there martha all right. Unfortunately, you can hear Benjamins Phone Line is breaking up. But were watching some of the people who will be attending this service. Only 30 people will be in attendanced today, probably the most Exclusive Royal Gathering that weve seen in A Hundred years due to covid, and well go through the individuals that are part of this in just a moment as we get under way here. You can see the interior of Windsor Castle as we get ready for the beginning of this funeral. Martha were going to pause for just a moment here to let our Fox Stations join us this morning. This is a Fox News special, coverage of the funeral of Prince Philip, Duke Of Edinburgh. Im Martha Maccallum in new york, anchor of The Story. Thank you for being with us this morning. Joining me now is Louisa James, Royal Correspondent for good Morning Britain and a fox royal contributor. Louisa, thank you so much for joining us this morning. As we have said, it is a stunning morning, a beautiful Spring Day in the United Kingdom as we watch the Military Procession which has been just a beautiful sight to see as they are in windsor in the interior area of Windsor Castle this morning. Your thoughts as we get started today, louisa. I think as weve been saying, the strange thing is weve been planning this as broadcasters and the Royal Family for decades because, obvious, the Duke Of Edinburgh lived to 99, an incredible age, and he himself taken such a hand in planning every detail of this. And thats what were beginning to see as we start to see the pictures come out of windsor, particularly his association with the military is represented. There are only 30 guests, as you said, but there are more than 700 members of the Armed Forces represented whether they are firing guns, whether they are on horseback, whether they are gathered on the grounds of Windsor Castle, and we just saw a glimpse of what is the hearse effectively today, but it is not your traditional hearse because Prince Philip wasnt a traditional man. He did not want a fussy bentley, he wanted something practical, a something sturdy, a vehicle that he used to drive. In fact, he was driving a rover when he had that accident at Sand Ring Ham sandringham. It is painted in military green and will be followed by members of the Royal Family in procession, and we should start to see that within the next half an hour or so. Martha louisa, were about to see some of the Family Members gather. We know that different sections of those who are attending are going to be entering from different gates, and the queen will enter from a separate gate as she is brought into the funeral. But, obviously, you know, The Main Event here is the funeral and the remembrance of Prince Philip, a man who has had an extraordinary career and been an extraordinary touchstone for all of the people of the united King Tom for so many years. Kingdom. But the rest of the members of the family are also going to be watched closely today given the complicated past that weve seen over the course of this year. Your thoughts on that. Yeah, of course. And, i mean, as much as everybody, the Royal Family in particular, want this to be about The Duke of edingen burg, and it will be about remembering a muchloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, the grandfather of the nation, as hes been describedded, of course there will also be attention on other members of the family. In particular, i think, Prince William and Prince Harry who have had a muchpublicized rift over the last few years which, of course, has been deepened by Prince Harrys decisioned to do that interview with oprah winfrey. And, in fact, the first we will see of them is following that coffin up to the chapel, and they will be in presession behind it with eight well, there are nine members of the Royal Family, interestingly, normal its just male members of the family, but she apparently asked her father whether it would be okay, and he said yes. But Princes William and harry are in the third row, and they are not shoulder to shoulder. They are separated by their Cousin Martha if i could just interrupt you, this is Princess Beatrice and her husband a arriving. Were seeing some of the members of the Royal Family who wont be marching behind that procession who are starting to arrive now. Sorry, go ahead. Yeah. I was just going to say that the members who will be marching behind the coffin or proaccessing behind the processing behind the coffin, William And Harry will be separated by their cousin. And, of course, that has led to lovely family photos. Much has been said about Prince Philip, and he was an Alma Male in a beta role. Very strong, Naval Officer as we pointed out, but found his place, you know, behind the queen in an incredibly supportive role, and No Doubt one of the things that attracted her to him was his strength. I think it is his strength allowed him to create that role for himself because its no secret that he a caricature, and i think weve all learned a lot about him in the past week. The thing that came out most of all was his incredible sense of humor. And thats not just a Character Trait which i think was appreciated by those around him, but actually became crucial to that role as support for the queen because meeting new people and being in a room of strangers perhaps didnt come as naturally for her but came extremely naturally to him. He was able to make a few jokes and put people at ease, and that was invaluable to her in her role. And that is what she will really miss. And we will see that today, the first time we will see her alone, sitting alone because of covid restrictions, and i think that will be a very poignant and enduring image of the queen as she continues the last years of her reign alone. Martha louisa, so well put. Thank you. So much. Stand by as we watch this procession. This is god of all you praising, a hymn that you hear at all of these royal events. Lets just listen to this for a moment. [background sounds] martha lets bring in Patrick Justin who is watching with us, chief of staff to Princess Diana. Thank you so much for joining us. Your thoughts as we watch this already very moving morning. Well, youre absolutely right, martha. I think we have to be prepared for an extraordinarily motionallycharged emotionallycharged occasion. And it seems that because this has been more of a strippeddown ceremony, far more reduced to the basic elements, i think it gains in some Way Pathos from that. It has even more emotional impact. I think the music, the military dignity, the he wanted to try and make things better. But unfortunately, she interpreted them as being rather more critical, and i think that just underlines the risk of miscommunication between people of such different generations. Martha its, you know, i think about William And Harry. When you talk about diana and the awkwardness that has existed over the past year in their relationship and what Prince Philip may have thought about the things that transpired over the last few months. There was a lot of criticism, patrick, for Harry And Meghan even going forward with the interview they did that was so public and so damaging to the Family Relationships while Prince Philip was so ill. Well, Prince Philip had a very clear view of royal with duty. He made it quite clear that the people are not there to serve the monarchy, the monarchy is there to serve the people. And the monarchy and all the people associated with it exist to serve the queen, to support the queen. The queen is the center of it all. And Everybodys Job is to support the queen. And anybody who fails to support the queen, in many respects, can be seen to be failing in their duty. Now, what we have heard about William And Harry and the interview and so on may all be true, but with it wont be the whole truth. Therell be more of The Story that we dont know. Ive learned this working for Princess Diana for many years. What the public see of internal problems is never the whole story. It may be roughly accurate, but there are many more pieces to this puzzle than weve seen. And we can just hope that a funeral can do, thisll bring the family together. This is the a family occasion, after all, and funerals may be, this funeral may be a good place for a resumption of affectionate relations between the brothers. Because, No Doubt, their mother would have been extraordinarily upset that they should find themselves at odds like this. Martha patrick, thank you. Stand by with us, if you would, as we watch the music and listen to it thats being play. Every one of these pieces was personally chosen by Prince Philip. He was 99 when he passed, and he took great care to organize a service that would reflect the beautiful things that he saw in life, in music, in the military, in nature, in the environment. All of those things coming together to be a fitting sendoff for Prince Philip. I want to bring in Richrd Ard who has covered the Royal Family for more than 40 years. He now writes for the montecito journal, so he is well placed to cover the Prince Harry and meghan part of this story in their new hometown in southern california. This is a unique week for Prince Harry. He has basically been in isolation due to the quarantine i just want to point out for a moment, this is the cap and gloves of Prince Philip on his carriage. You may have seen photos of him riding on this carriage. There was a beautiful picture just this week of little prince george, william and kates son, alongside him on that carriage which you see. At the lower righthand side of your screen. Its been an unusual peek for harry. He has not seen his family, as far as we can tell, and he has been holed up at Frogmore Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle, but were about to see him shortly. Its obviously a unique week for everybody. I mean, Prince Philip put his imprint on this funeral, and hes been resting in the private chapel At Windsor which he helped design after the catastrophic fire in 1992 that almost burned the castle down. But only, they were hoping that this moment because of its historic factor, that William And Harry would somehow come. To but it doesnt look it. And the fact that, obviously, Princess Annes son, Peter Phillips, the cousin, is standing between them is very symbolic and probably indicative of what is happening to the two brothers which is very saddening for everybody martha the coffin being with brought out by the pallbearers. Well come back to him in just a moment. [background sounds] [background sounds] martha i just want to briefly mention, you see the flag that is Drape Thed over the casket, and it is philips standard. You can see on the left that is edinburgh castle, his title. On the opposite side of that, you see the national flag of greece where he was born and was sixth in line to the greek throne, and then on the opposite side of that danish Coat Of Arms representing his ancestry as well and representing his mother, prince alice, both sides of the Queens Family and philips family as well. [background sounds] [inaudible conversations] [background sounds] [background sounds] [background sounds] [background sounds] [inaudible] martha so, obviously, just want to point out quickly Prince Phillip and the queens four children, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, and then you see Prince Andrew and prince edward, those are the four children of the Queen And Philip. And then just behind them, obviously, President Of The United States harry to your right Prince Harry to your right. In the center is Prince Philip, he is the son of princess and. She has two children, Zara And Print Peter Phillips and thenwomen yall to the Lefthand Side William to the lefthand side. Everyone is in mourning suits rather than military regalia. It avoids a potentially awkward situation. Both Prince Andrew and Prince Harry are no longer to wear their regalia because they are no longer Senior Royals due to their situations in the past couple years. Obviously, that is something that would spare them the embarrassment of being the only ones in regular suits. And we just see Queen Elizabeth traveling with her lady in waiting as we get closer to the entrance to st. Georges chapel. Martha want to bring in Neil Shaun Here For A Moment whos been covering the Royal Family for decades as we see this moving tribute to Prince Philip. Its an 3minute Journey 8minute journey to the chap el. Your thoughts as we watch this unfold. Well, good morning, martha. So far a wonderfully i Motive Service that they are providing. Let me tell you something, we were filming out of Windsor On thursday for the rehearsals of this, and it was the equally emotional then. And we saw grown, you know, people, part of the military, in tears. So for them to show such restraint at this particular moment is very hard. I can only imagine, you know, when youre looking at this, it involves so many memories for people who have been in a similar situation due to the terrible Pandemic Weve had this year where lots of people have gone through this. But, of course, the Duke Duke of edinburgh, whatever people think, was very much loved worldwide. He was an individual character. He would find this, martha, let me tell you, highly amusing. He wasnt big on Ceremony And Sort of a lot of, how shall we say, showy things. But what it does show ising exactly how british this is and what a wonderful symbol of britishness around the worlded today. Martha and we see William And Harry and, obviously, it voces the message of them walking behind their Mothers Casket. Harry was just 12, i believe william was just 14, possibly 15 by then. Neil, theres a lot, theres a lot of background here. Well, im glad you said that, martha, yes, a lot of background. And i think the feeling over here, let me tell you, as you know the battlal this week about military uniforms, who would walk with who, whether they would walk next to Each Other, there was a lot of sympathy for Her Majesty the queen because it really isnt about such petty things. It should be about celebrating the life of a wonderful character, you know, a wonderful man who did a lot for this country not just here in the United Kingdom, but worldwide as an ambassador too. I think its quite sad that all eyes will be looking at these two brothers and whether they will i mean, if anything could reconcile this, martha, it has to be such an event like this. And i have to say also i wonder whats going through Prince Harrys mind right now, because hes flipped back to a life he hatchet been involved with hasnt been involved with, and i whether he misses the closeness of his own Original British family. Martha perhaps. Perhaps, neil. We just saw zara fill hips and her his, mike tindall, who is a former football player, and that is Princess Eugenie and her husband. They were just married recently in Windsor Castle as well. For so many people they have seen weddings and beautiful events At Windsor over the course of the last several years, and Today Everyone pauses to remember Prince Philip. Neil, you think about what would have been in the Streets Of London that is Princess Beatrice and her husband, theyre recently married as well. She is the daughter, obviously, of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson who is not in attendance today, but the grandchildren bowing as their Grandfathers Casket passes, neil. Yeah, i mean, sadly, because of the situation that in, it is sad that more people werent allowed to celebrate. But we are all watching this televised event. And i think out of respect for Her Majesty the queen lots of people have stayed away from windsor, from Buckingham Palace. They have had to remove all the Transcribe Biewpts so that people didnt congregate as what happened with the likes of the late, great Princess Diana. But again, you know, it just shows how much the british Royal Family are loved. People did want to come out, you know . I think we feel slightly cheated that we cant do this because we all wanted to pay our respects. And for those like myself who were lucky enough to meet the Duke Of Edinburgh, he would find this quite strange because we all got told that he didnt like a lot of martha just want to jump in Here For A Moment. We see Queen Elizabeth greeted by the archbishop of canterbury. This is the first time weve seen her since she lost her husband. Well just watch her as she walks in. [gunfire] [inaudible] [background sounds] [background sounds] [background sounds] [background sounds] [inaudible] [background sounds] [inaudible] [background sounds] [inaudible] [background sounds] [inaudible] [background sounds] lift. [inaudible] [background sounds] [inaudible] [background sounds] [inaudible] we are Here Today in Georges Chapel to commend into the hands of god the soul of Prince Philip, Duke Of Edinburgh. We remember many ways in which his long life has been a blessing to us. We have been inspired by unwavering loyalty to our queen, by his service to the nation and the common wealth, by his courage, Fortitude And Faith and encouragement that he has given us, his kindness, humor and humanity. We, therefore, pray that god will give us grace to follow his example and that with our Brother Philip at the last, we shall know the joys of life eternal. A reading from the book. Look at the Rainbow And Praise its maker. It shines with a supreme beauty, rounding the sky with its beaming Arc A Bow by the most high. His command speeds the snowstorm and sends the swift lightening to execute his sentence to that end, the houses are open and the clouds fly out like birds. By his mighty power, the clouds are piled up and the hailstones broken small. The crash of his thunder make the earth rive, when he appears shake the hills. At his will, the south wind blows, the north, he scatters the snowflakes like birds, they settle like a swarm of locus, The Eye is dazzled by their beautiful whiteness and as they fall the mind is Entrance And Spread like salt and though the water were putting on a plate. It consumes the hills, Scorches The Wilderness and with grass, light fire. Cloudy Weather Quicks pulls all and dew welcomes after heat. By the power of his force, he tamed the deep and planted it with islands, those who sailed the sea tell stories of its dangers which astonish all who hear them. In it are strange and wonderful creatures, all kinds of Living Things and huge sea monsters. By his own action, he achieves his end and by his word all things are held together. A reading from st. Johns gospel. Martha said to jesus, lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. And even now i know that whatever you ask from god, god will give you. Jesus said to her, your brother will rise again. Martha said to him. I know that he will rise again in the resurrection. Jesus said to her, i am the resurrection and the life. He who believe in me, though he thy, yet shall he live and whoever livers and beliefs in me shall never die. Do you believe this . She said to him, yes, lord, i believe that you are the christ, the son of god. He who is coming into the world. Let us pray. Remembering the life of Prince Philip, goodbye to do Duke Of Edinburgh as witness in a stark, quiet, small family remembrance. It was quite moving to see the members of the Royal Family seated alone in different spaces around the casket Prince Philip, we saw the queen several times with Head Bent over in prayer. This was a religious, faithful service. There was no eulogy, no sermon, it was very straightforward, very beautiful and the music that was performed in separate of st. Georges chapel because of the environment of the pandemic really with all the more stark and stunning i thought as you heard the voices resonating in the historic beautiful chapel. He was remembered for his unwavering loyalty to our queen, courage, fortitude by the archbishop of canterbery and it was an absolutely fitting, beautiful ceremony and poignant moments in nearly empty chapel by 30 members of the Royal Family. We saw Prince William with his wife, the Duchess Of Cambridge. Prince harry alone and Prince Andrew alone. Prince edward there with his family. He will eventually become the Duke Of Edinburgh and take the title himself after his brother Prince Charles become the king of england and, of course, the queen about to celebrate her 955 birthday lost her husband at the age of 99 and we watch how the family exits and Queen Elizabeth leaving st. Georges chapel. Lets watch. [inaudible] [background sounds] [background sounds] [background sounds] moment there that i think everybody watched quite closely as we saw Prince William and his brother Prince Harry, there they are from behind walking together and chatting. Duchess of cambridge, kate on the other side of them. She was walking along with them. We saw the 3 of them together so many times before harry was married, very close. Obviously they have been through difficult times in the past and a lot of hope this there might be some reconciliation in the course of this intimate Family Gathering that we have seen and we also saw Prince Charles and the duchess of cornwall, wife camila as they left a very moving ceremony and a window, i think, into a family thats a family like everyone else when they go through the moments and say goodbye to a beloved husband, grandfather and great grandfather. Now the camera over windsor, beautiful place. Philip called home for 73 years of marriage to Queen Elizabeth. I want to bring gerard baker. Jerry, good to be with you today. What are your thoughts as you watch this beautiful Ceremony Today . Martha, i thought you captured it very well actually. Two things that will dwell in the memory, one is obviously the small scale of this event. I mean, we are used to the Royal Family, the British Monarchy does these affairs, events of state extraordinarily well usually with great Pomp And Circumstance and ceremonial and crowds of worshipers or mourners or celeb rants and because of covid low Key And Family event and many of us have been to funerals not quite like that but at the same time it managed to capture the ceremonial with the presence of the queen and the and some of the service itself. The other thing you captured, martha, well, was very striking and i found this very striking repeated image was a reminder that the queen is alone. You know, we have seen so many of the events over the years, weddings and national celebrations and the queen is always there with Prince Philip. He has been at her side for 73 years. Hes been as much of a fixture of the british establishment as the queen herself. And it was very striking to see her there alone on one side of the stools in Georges Chapel as you said head bowed in prayer, no one anywhere close to her. I thought that was a very powerful reminder of the personal the personal sadness and hes lived long and productive life but shes now alone after 73 years with this man by her side, through what have been a lot of challenging times for the queen. You are reminded of that too, looking at the family and how the family fractured has been and recent attention on on Prince Harry, but if you look to those mourners there, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Princess Anne all had failed marriages and all on all gone through divorces. The families have gone through a lot of fracturing and now shes alone and i think that will be an interesting, that will have interesting consequences for The Way the british people really revere the queen and have i think seeing her alone now will intensify the warmth they feel for her so a very powerful set of images. So well put. You know, i was struck by this pandemic environment, as you mentioned and it reminded me in some ways of what we saw in World War ii. You know, empty spaces, you know, the bombing of london, of course, the blitz and you think about the fact that philip is the last of those who will remember what that was like for the United Kingdom and his sense of duty and that sense of his and of so many young men like him that there was something larger than themselves at stake in the world, that they were there to serve and i think, you know, now only the queen remembers those days, and what she went through with her father, King George v and her mother and with Prince Philip. Thoughts on that. Absolutely, the lost generation, theyve been called in this country, the greatest generation and i think its an apt title and with that service and we shouldnt kid ourselves, the queen and Prince Philip had an extremely privileged life in many ways, but they demonstrated, many of our World Leaders frankly around the world today, that sense of selfless service and i think its pretty picture of Prince Philip. Prince philip met Princess Elizabeth many years ago and quite young. The queen, the Princess Wasnt expecting to ascend to the throne at any early time and he got sick, died at a very young age, King George and she was queen extremely young age and terminated whatever plans Prince Philip may have had. Prince philip was a successful Naval Officer and he loved the life of the navy and traveled around everywhere he had, a frankly, a wonderful life as you would expect of a young man having gone through a fairly harrowing very young life from very early years, but when he was first married, he could look forward, to years, perhaps of being a prince, the kind of life that we think of as a prince, with all of the advantages and blessings, and suddenly his wife becomes the queen and hes forced to be that second in command, a very distant second, somebody, as the vicepresidency of the united states is seen as kind of a meaningless job and described as such many times, four or eight years, but this man did this second in Command Job with no constitutional responsibility, no real significant role in british political life, hes done it for almost 70 years. And he did it uncomplainingly and set aside his by The Way he was an outspoken man and could get himself into trouble and good at saying things and sometimes we need someone like that, but it was basically of service to the nation, to the queen, to the commonwealth and he did that, you know, for a man who could have achieved all kinds of things in his life, he accepted the role and he got on with the role and its exactly as you say, martha. That generation, second World War and people from that generation and did what they had to do uncomplainingly and didnt see themselves as victims, didnt see themselves as hard done by, they just got on with it, they did their job and accepted it and that is a generation, im afraid, with the exception of the queen and other people are pretty well past. Unfortunately the values, i dont want to sound too much like a grumpy old man, but the values we operate in our Society Today are not really the values that i think sustained britain at that time, the united states at that time, so many of these great countries, i think those values and that generation have passed. I couldnt help, but hope what you were talking about was sinking in during this service, not only, obviously, for the family, but for Everybody Else who was watching this from the outside and the humility you talk about with Prince Philip, he had a Cutting Sense of humor , he offend the people here ab there and could say what was on his mind and you wrote a editorial, Prince Philip is gone when america needs him the most, but i cant help, but be struck by, you cant help, but think of the funeral of Princess Diana, so different. This is stark full of Humility And Hers was grand in a sense, there was a huge outpouring of emotion all over the Streets Of London, her brother gave a very, you know, very cutting, but nuanced, slightly nuanced stab at the Royal Family from the pulpit and you had Elton John Sort of performing, so its very, very different in terms of these two experiences. Jerry. Youre right, i was going to say Sir Elton John did his performance, Candle In The Wind and youre right, without Princess Diana was in many ways an extraordinary and remarkable woman, youre right she did represent a generation, i think where perhaps the values, the oldfashioned values of Service And Humility and, you know, just plowing on and getting on with, you know, Soldiering On as the british would say, those values dont, arent really reflected and seeing that again, not a moment to reflect on some of the recent controversies weve seen, but whether its with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle or the sort of Celebrity Dimensions to the modern Royal Family and The Way it often seems to be about them and their lives and whats wrong with their lives and how they could be much better off and them lecturing people how they could be better off. Prince philip and the queen, the simplicity and the formal nature of that service, no flumere, no eulogy, nobody outside of the family and interesting, there were a couple Prince Philip comes from a long line of european royals, some of his sort of European Cousins and second cousins were there, too, a very oldfashioned, Form Affirmation of what you were talking about. And thank you about your remarks for my column, that he was the kind of when i say that Prince Philip is what america needs right now, i dont mean they need to go back to the monarchy, dealt with that 250 years ago and quite well without it, but what Prince Philip was good at puncturing the world of political correctness here and god knows its dramatically worse the last few years where its impossible to say certain things and Prince Philip would say what he was thinking and realized one of the great advantages of his status, he could say whatever he wanted, he couldnt be canceled. Prince philip in an era of cancel culture. So true. Cant cancel the monarch. And good heavens, we need someone who can say things frankly unsayable, whether its the kind of things were talking about, around values and what really, you know, we should be pursuing in life and by The Way, also, the greatness of the civilization that we that britain and in america has come to stand for. Its very hard to talk about those things these days. Prince philip was never afraid to talk about it and i think that many british and americans should learn from that lesson and quite happy and talk about many of the great things their societies and civilization stood for. Wellsaid. I thought it was interesting that Prince William talked about duty and how his grandfather would want them all to get on with their duty and continue their duty and he always strikes me as looking the most like philip in many ways, i think that Prince William looks a lot like his mom, but has the stature of Prince Philip and a shade of his File And Outline of his face in his grandfather as well. Jerry baker, thank you. Thank you. From the Wall Street Journal with us. Id like to bring in our Foreign Affairs columnist, benjamin, welcome back. Your thoughts on what you observed. I think as youve just been saying, martha the perfect balance between the personal and ceremonial and how little we saw of the Royal Family once inside The Church. When you look at these events as they do in the u. K. , they often focus on members of the Royal Family and get their feedback. But you didnt see that, it was focused on the service, very small and tailored down of course because of covid, but thats how Prince Philip wanted it. He had a big hand in creating this, chose the Hymns And Psalms and the focus on his naval career and throughout it, there were these nods toward it and it started with his Admirals Cap and sword and those stayed throughout. Some of the psalms. Talks about the Sea And Sea monsters and the songs there, specially commissioned by philip. If you go back to 1952 and one was commissioned to commemorate the earl of mountbatton and those were about philip. You think about the naval and something throughout his whole life he missed. He was so attached to t one career before marrying the queen. And he was asked how difficult that was to give up. He says i dont know how difficult, but the setting is just so relevant and perfect. This is st. Georges chappell, yes, its called a chapel, but, its a small cathedral and it has royal connotation, 44 monarchs have been buried there including henry the viii. We spoke about his coffin, its lined in lead and it will be dropped down into the royal vault and his body, his casket will stay there right up until the queen passes away. And at that point, after her funeral, they will both be moved together to the grounds of Frogmore Cottage where Queen Victoria is buried and other members of the Royal Family. And hell wait there for the queen. And symbolic of that relationship. 73 years of marriage came across in that and the sight of her sitting alone there was quite stark, quite amazing. Other thing is how simple this was and we know that philip wanted the simple funeral. He had said that as a joke, many years ago, he said put me in the back of a Land Rover and drive me up when im gone and thats what happened. He had designed that Land Rover by himself and he went up in it and again, the earl of Mountbot Ton so close to him was carried to his funeral. As to living to 100 Prince Philip was asked about that, living to 100, i couldnt think of anything worse, he said. Two months before his 100th birthday, he passed away. He got the funeral he wanted, Parred Down, emotional, it wasnt over the top, it was perfectly him and perhaps one Thing Everyone was looking for, that talk, that little chat between William And Harry. Maybe that was the thing that Prince Philip might have wanted the most and saw it at The End. All in all, a beautiful piece, perfectly sent off Prince Philip and we know that the nation, the u. K. , commonwealth and the world would have had a good insight into Prince Philip and what he would have wanted and his choices and the thoughts with the queen and see how she gets on with her life, how soon she reemerges to do public events and she has released a statement in public and did that yesterday. And giving her best wishes to the people of st. Grenadine and st. Vincent. And Prince Philip would have wanted her to Carry On and the spirit he evoked his entire life and we saw today. Thank you so much at Windsor Castle as we take a look at the exterior and the beginning of the Long Walk there At Windsor. As i said this is about 22 miles outside of the center of london and has always been a haven for Queen Elizabeth and for Prince Philip. Id like to bring in richard fitzwilliams. Were going to take a moment as we move on this morning and we see the Royal Family paying homage and final respects to Prince Philip. Our special coverage of the funeral continues. Please stay tuned to Fox News channel and this Fox Station for continuing coverage of this story. Im Marsha Mccallum in new york. Now were back with our continuing coverage at Fox News channel and now id like to bring in richard fitzwilliams, Royal Commentator and whos who, has a special section on the royals of course, and Neil Shaw is going to join us as well, u. K. Royal correspondent. Richard, let me begin with you. Your thoughts on the service this morning. I i think that it was deeply moving. It had a powerful intimacy about it and one of the things that, of course, The Duke, who planned it, every part of it, the minutia, couldnt have foreseen the pandemic and certainly there was a certain starkness and the wearing of masks and so much smaller, but that did give it an extra dimension because there were times when i felt that, i was watching, so to speak, a Family Grieving and apart from the clergy with only 30 allowed in the chapel, it was there was something very spiritual about it and also the environment in which it was held is so historic because Windsor Castle is the worlds oldest, most inhabited castle and it is the base for the order of the guard, of the st. Georges chapel is the chapel of the prevalent order of chivalry in britain and the banners looked absolutely magnificent. And also, we have this future which was obviously attached to the limitations imposed by the pandemic, but there was a choir of four. But there was something very uplifting about this. I think its deeply moving and obviously we must stress that throughout this was a funeral for a warrior, his links with the military were stressed throughout. Thank you, richard. Stand by, if you would, as we continue to watch this and seeing some images in the upper box there that we saw moments ago of the family inside the st. Georges chapel during the course of this funeral. I want to bring in Neil Shaun, royal reporter, has covered the Royal Family for 20 years. Neil, id like to just go back to that moment outside of windsor and we saw, i thought a very poignant moment of just a chat between two brothers, William And Harry, at one Point Kate in between them and as ive said weve had so many memories of seeing the three of them together, very close pals in many ways and obviously that has been very strained. Indeed, martha. Im glad you mentioned that. Weve seen History In The Making Today and also, you know, what a wonderful display that the military and all of the Armed Services have put on. I thought it was just magnificent, so emotional in fact. All eyes, as you rightly say, martha will be on that little chat. As we discussed on your excellent podcast earlier in the week, we were saying if there was anybody that would cement this relationship back, it would be kate. Now, as we know, kate or katherine as we call her here, is one of the girls that really can cement things, can smooth things over. And i thought it was very telling, martha, that she was the one that instigated the conversation. You could see that, i felt, that william still seemed a little ill at ease, wasnt that keen to get involved in the conversation, but i would suggest that now theyve moved back inside, it will be katherine, kate, who is instigating further chats. If she can do that, that will be wonderful, but as we always said, once Prince Harry returns back to the united states, if any of this is mentioned or leaked out or put out on another media channel, i think that would be the sort of The End of all sort of communication because that particular forget the interview, i think it was the Breakfast Tv Show host, we wont mention her, who then discussed that, that really hurt the members of the family over here because simply because it was a very private thing that shouldnt really have been discussed and i think that really impaired the balance of it all. Lets hope some positivity. Its a great point and im not sure that the people on the outside of the family understand just how sort of sacred that bond is and to start leaking things about conversations and sort of putting your own side of the argument out there isnt always very wellreceived because obviously, they get sort of attacked from all sides. So, it was, i think, a moment and you know, i think weve all had the feeling when youre sort of walking and theyre outside and all eyes are on them, oh, are they going to get closer, exchange a few words and we saw satisfies exactly what happened. And going back to you, neil, before i let you go. Alone in that moment in the Chapel And Grieving the loss of her husband, and as weve said, she will get bah back to work and shes gotten back to work and well see members of the Royal Family by her side more often. Explain that to everyone. Well, this is kind of a you know, people are asking, well, what now for the queen . And again, as we discussed in your podcast, we said the question was asked, you know, would the queen abdicate, would she step down . That will never happen, but what you have to see, because of the wonderful age that Her Majesty has now reached its a natural progression that Prince Charles would take on more of the responsibility and certainly Prince William and katherine, and particularly Sophie Wessex and someone who has a close and bonding relationship with Her Majesty, None Other than Sarah Ferguson, hes been strength to her. Theyve met and chatted on the phone and people are reading too much into the fact that she wasnt invited. Its not about that, its about what happens in these situations after the event, the Support Group that you have. So moving forward, i believe Her Majesty the queen will thankfully Carry On, we want her to kwar Carry On forever and ill see more involvement with Prince Charles. Weve got the opening of parliament and things like that, and Prince Charles taking more of a lead, but the queen is a very stoic lady, will not really want to relinquish too much power because of course, its her royal duty as she said all of those years ago, however long, however short my life may be, shes a reigning monarch and will continue to reign until sadly we lose her. And demonstrates what it means to be a Senior Royal. Its a job, and there are a lot of appearances that are part of that. It can be tiresome No Doubt for some of them and looking at the numbers, Prince Philip carried out thousands and thousands and thousands of speeches and cuttings of ribbon, all of that. And largely what Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle decided they did not want to be a part of in terms of the Senior Royal duties, youll watch these individual by the queens side. And i want to bring in dominic covering the royals. Great to have you with us, and your thoughts on the Isser Have is today . Well, martha, i thought as Prince Philip was a Sailing Man he choreographed that beautifully. And we saw the Royal Family passing through The Eye of the hurricane when you think of the drums and cannon in the earlier stages of the ceremony and the eery peace and silence. And the sight of two brothers together, exchanging words again, which is an astonishing thing. And what happens to them from here, of course, everyone will be watching very, very carefully. The queen, obviously, alone for the first time, already beginning to pass on more and more of her duties to Prince Charles, and of course, Prince Philip would have obviously have wanted everyone to pull together at a moment like this and harry, of course, is on his own path already and you have to wonder how quickly there will be a divergence. Regardless of whether there is Leaking Or Gossip and so on, the simple facts of it might actually push him further away as the Royal Family charts a new course. You know, when you look at them, the future, obviously Prince Harry is well down the chain at this point in terms of who takes over. You have Prince Charles first in line of course and then Prince William and then his three children so just by nature of the succession, those individuals, theyre the ones who will have the largest role, right . Thats correct. Thats absolutely correct and i dont think Prince Harry would want them to do anything less than that. I think the difficulty that he has had extracting himself in terms of he would like to live on, the Royal Family itself as we saw today, a group of ordinary people caught in an extraordinary situation and the code of duty and getting on with it, which of course Prince Philip exemplified and a way of going forward. This is an astonishing moment and astonishing era in all of these lives. Dominic, talk a little about the popularity of the Royal Family right now in the United Kingdom. There are those who look at these moments and you know, theyre not all that interested, and people here in the united states, who wonder why theres such a fuss over these individuals. How popular are they right now in the United Kingdom . At the moment the popularity of the queen in particular, of the Royal Family in general is extremely high. They are seen as having done the right thing and jobs. And for many of us are in fixtures in our life and hardworking presences and so on and everybody feels we know that, whether we actually know them is another question, but i dont think theres any doubt that if the monarchy does its bit then the british people will be very happy to have the monarchy forever. It seems when you look at the rankings, Prince Harry was higher up before this Interview And Everything that fouled and william and the queen continue to be very favorable. Do you expect that that will be changed at all . Yes, i think thats going to sharpen, if anything. I think the more they pull together, the more their estimation will rise. And harry has his own charitable ventures he wants to work on and perhaps he can also create something like that role for himself in the united states. But certainly, in britain, i think that the possibility that he may well simply be forgotten about almost in the sense that people forgot about Edward The Viii after he left the family and forgot he was there. Dominic green, thank you so much for joining us. Im going to bring in our senior foreign Affairs Correspondent Greg Palkot standing by at the palace where you would expect to see enormous crowds and outportion for events like this. What is the mood tHere Today . Enormous crowds you would expect, no, small crowds for a variety of reasons, but strong emotions, were about 20 miles away from Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace is the London Residence of the royals. The funeral of the funeral felt strongly, the Union Jack at Half Mast and the flowers being laid. They said not to do that, but there as he too much love. There were people who knew him well, and some met him a few times and i think this funeral would match the expectations of the prince. As weve been saying its no frills. No nonsense. Meticulously planned in part due to the covid19 restrictions, but also because this is The Way that Prince Philip wanted. We talked about his military background, the playing of the pipes and bugles, and felt you were at sea at points. You talked about his Engineering And Design skills, with the Land Rover hearse he spent years and years designing and the Horse Carriage with two of his favorite horses out there. We heard a lot about the Horse Carriages and the neighbors told he was by their house every day up until a couple of years whenever he was at Windsor Castle and fence mend and maybe at a distance he was doing that a little, too. It started out with Prince Harry and Prince William separated by the custom of the funeral. As you were saying at The End they were together, they were chatting. Maybe the prince had a hand in that, too. Lets pause for a moment and well give you an idea what they felt about the man. Hes so much for the country, really. I mean hes been he stood back and working paddling hard underwater, like a duck. Sometimes cantankerous . Yeah, be your own self and be a character. And i think the fairest thing to say. Held in high regard . Yes. Held in high regard, and yes, that sense of humor, i guess looking back over the funeral and the procession, thats maybe the one thing that we were missing, that sense of joy, that rye and sardonic sense of humor, we heard story after story about that and i bet now Behind The Scenes as the royals gather and talk, inside Windsor Castle, we might be hearing a few wry stories, maybe not for the public. After the funeral the family gets together and maybe have a couple of cocktails and talks and tell stories and i imagine there will be some of that this afternoon for the family as well. Thank you very much. I want to bring in Louisa James for britain and so good to have you for us this morning, your thoughts on this service, on the family, on the moment that we all watched between William And Harry. Whats your takeaway . A couple of things that stood out for me. First of all, i think The Enduring image of the queen sitting on her own. We knew because of Covid Regulations we wasnt going to have anyone with her, really she looked very isolated sitting in the pews there, in the Setting Weve been seen her before surrounded by family and friends for weddings and so on and i think that will be the image that stood out for me and especially as one of your other contributors were saying, her head was bowed, and perhaps by design, a hat that allowed for her to have some privacy in a very public moment for her, her grief played out for the country and the world and i think it was interesting that you didnt see closeups of the Royal Family. In fact, there were moments when the cameras actively cut away from them when the bagpiper playing, for example, the queen was given a moment to herself in front of the coffin before it was lowered into that vault and i think the sense this wasnt a moment for us to observe a family in mourning, but teleadvising the funeral about the people who couldnt go to windsor and line the streets and file past the coffin like perhaps in noncovid times. It was for us to be able to watch it rather than for us to see the family in mourning and people tried as hard as they could to enable it to be a private moment for them in a difficult time. We were looking at the wreath on top of the coffin and we saw his Military Hat and the sword arranged there and then a card with some writing on it and i think it reminded everyone of the wreath on top of Dianas Coffin and the Word Mummy written on top. Were you able to learn anything about that note or what it said on the front of that envelope, louisa . I was trying to find out what it was. And some on Social Media said it said i love you. And i thought, but that was a display in public because that was from the queen herself, that was on the floors on top flowers on top of the coffin. And yes, reminded us of Princess Diana and the young boys following their coffin, and it was the Duke Of Edinburgh who convinced them to do that and william was reluctant and apparently he said to william, if i walk will you walk with me . And they scooped them up to balmoral and looked after them and after the service i was struck by that, it looked to me perhaps it was done deliberately, just because of The Way they walked out, you saw harry kind of speed up, i think, to be alongside William And Catherine and catherine move away to give them time alone. I wonder if it was done deliberately to show that theyre talking to Each Other and instead of talking about the supposed rift, we were focusing on what was important and thats remembering the Duke Of Edinburgh, i wonder if it was deliberate to try to take attention away from that. And i dont know if it was preplanned or deliberate, i would imagine there was some thought in their minds about wanting to have that moment, we understand there was a Phone Call, a brief Phone Call when harry arrived for the funeral between the two brothers, there has been a lot under the bridge, shall we say over the course of the past few years and when you talk about them walking behind their Mothers Casket and the moving scene that we remember so well, the boys, i think they were 12 and 14 or 15 at the time, and i never would have imagined, louisa when they were doing the same thing behind their Grandfathers Funeral there would be a separation between these two young men. I dont think any of us who cover them over the years would have ever anticipated that it would lead to that. Yeah, i think it would have been unimaginable, even a couple of years ago, because the brothers have always been so close, and i think like you said, weve seen so many images over the previous years before harry got married of him with William And Catherine and then the foursome together after he got together with meghan, the duchess of sussex and i think even then, it would have been hard for us to imagine the two brothers so close, always by Each Others side, united in that grief they felt when their mother was taken from them so young, to see them to be asking the question whether they would be speaking to Each Other and day, another day that is so sad for them today. So for many of them, a wonderful moment to see them chattingly so casual seoully and casually and easily and whatever was going on for them for their grandfather. And there is indication Meghan Markle would like to see some sort of Reconciliation And Something along the lines shes willing to forgive. Any chance they would come back together for that event . I think what might make that difficult is the timing of the birth their daughter. And the baby is due in the summer and why shes not here now. She apparently wanted to be here, but on the advice of doctor she didnt come and she instead watched a live stream and a handwritten note to the queen today. Its the timing that might make it difficult and if she didnt want to come that would give her an excuse not to, but if she does want to come it might make it a bit difficult. I think perhaps the death of the Duke Of Edinburgh who harry was very close to is a moment for the family to reconcile and come back together, and you know, with a bit of time passing between now and i think its july when they were you due to get together at the unveiling of the statue of Princess Diana, a lot of people are hoping it will allow them to come together in some way even if not in person. None of us can read minds, but of Course Everybody was watching harry at moments at the service and here he is on his own back in his Home Country surrounded by his family and surrounded by talk about that sense of Duty And Humility and putting other corpse for Prince Philadelphia, the queen before everything, putting his country before everything and you just have to wonder what goes through his mind. What Prince Philip thought about the interview. And at that time that harry made the decision, that was hurtful to the queen and the Duke Of Edinburgh he didnt want her to be upset and he removed himself from sandringham. And his sense of duty was impeccable and advised his family if they were going to give interviews not to discuss themselves and what is talked about less is the relationship between those two and actually what they had in common and it was in a way their mischievous sense of humor and in particular their desire to go their own Way And Harry said about his grandfather, the Duke Of Edinburgh like a Fish Swimming up the river doing his own thing and going his own way. And i think that the Duke Of Edinburgh would recognize in harry the desire to go his own way and do his own Thing And Respect living his own life even though the details of that he might have disagreed with. Thank you so much. And now with us, a former aide to former prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and director for Margaret Thatcher of freedom and your thoughts on the other side here. Well, i have to say what a stunningly beautiful service and Ceremony Today At Windsor and i thought it was an absolutely impeccable service. It was an immensely powerful service and a reminder, not only of the greatness of Prince Philips life, but the monarchy itself and the important role that the monarchy plays in the United Kingdom and the service had been watched all over the world possibly by billions of people and i think that this is a powerful reminder of the hugely important role that the monarchy plays not only for the United Kingdom, but the commonwealth as well, which has over 50 nations and the british empire, today the commonwealth and british people and people across the world celebrated the life of a truly great man, a selfless man who lived his life for the sake of the United Kingdom for the commonwealth and for a greater, higher purpose and there was also, of course, an extremely large, religious element to this service, and a reminder as well of the tremendously important part that religion plays in the role of the Royal Family and in the life of the british people as well. Now, i have to ask you, because of your work with Margaret Thatcher, im sure that there are many people who tune in today who watch The Crown and even members of the Royal Family suggested that they see it as a, you know, it doesnt bother them all that much that there are some depictions and presentations they see some similarity with the actual life of being in the Royal Family. There was an episode with Margaret Thatcher that depicted the Royal Family as really sort of being great hard on her and making her feel awkward when she came to visit and i wonder what your thoughts were on that. Yes, i did watch every episode of season four of The Crown and i have to say while The Crown is great entertainment it is often lacking in historic accuracy. The reality is Margaret Thatcher had a tremendously warm relationship, actually, with the queen. They greatly admired Each Other. They respected Each Other. In fact, i met the queen and Prince Philip at the 80th Birthday Celebration for Lady Thatcher back in 2005 and the queen made a point of attending Margaret Thatchers Birthday Celebration. She very rarely attends celebrations for politicians and of course, also the queen attended the funeral of Lady Thatcher in 2013, the first time she attended a funeral of a politician since winston churchill. And the relationship between the queen and Margaret Thatcher was an immensely powerful one and a very strong partnership between the two most powerful people in the world at the time, and in many respects, you know, both Margaret Thatcher and the queen were leaders of the free world and their partnerships, while an immensely successful one and very powerful one and i dont think the Crown Series on netflix fully reflected that, and in reality, there was great admiration on the part of Margaret Thatcher for the queen and the queen greatly respected, i think, the tremendous role that Margaret Thatcher played in restoring british Greatness And Lifting britain back up again as a truly great nation. So interesting. Obviously they had different things in common and other people, other women, their friends, could never understand the burdens on both of them. Wonderful to have your insight from your perspective having worked with Margaret Thatcher. I want to bring in patrick, author of shadows of a princess and the meghan factor, welcome back, we did see the two brothers have a moment of chatting outside of st. Georges chapel. What went through your mind and what do you think their mother would have thought of that . Well, as you said, martha, next week is the queens birthday. Shell be 95 and i Cant Think of a better Birthday Present for her than the thought that her two grandsons William And Harry were back on good terms because no family, particularly no head of a family likes to think of there being unhappiness and rifts across the width of the atlantic ocean. Lets hope the funeral had a healing effect. Agreeing with jerry, the extraordinary thing about Prince Philip he couldnt be canceled. He was authentic, the real thing. Can you imagine being a spin doctor, trying to spin Prince Philip, it would drive you man. Im here in washington d. C. And one they think i noticed about this wonderful service, particularly the naval elements which brought a lump to my thought, there were no politicians, not one. And the prime Minister Boris Johnson reportedly save up his seat so that another member of the family could attend. And as niles said, what we saw there was really in sense the great significance of the British Monarchy, it has no power, but it has immense influence and great, great soft power, no it has no hard power and the Armed Forces are under the nominal command of the queen and owe their allegiance to the monarch, there was no politician there, we saw extraordinary display of influence, history, great strands of national identity. Im a naturalized america now, and swore allegiance to the flag and the constitution, what we saw tHere Today is what a british Person Thought of as patriotism, The Crown, the Armed Forces, The Church. The patriotism is in the people and when the people arent working right then the country suffers. When the people work together, when they follow this great, great advice of Prince Philip to serve something bigger than themselves the country benefits and the wider world benefits. Everybody watched the queen right now alone in her pew at st. Georges and she obviously will Carry On. She appears to be in very good health. Shes going to be 95 this week as you mentioned is her birthday, but when you look beyond the queen, hopefully years away when that mantle does pass to Prince Charles, a lot of people will wonder what will happen with the Royal Family and who carries on that kind of regal torch and that symbol for the nation that has been so unifying. It is a big question. And while our attention is focus on the extraordinary beauty, the spirituality, the simplicity, the dignity of today, tomorrow will be a new day. The queen is already as benjamin said, shes getting back to work and there will be a new era. Queen elizabeths reign will eventually come to an end and what an extraordinary life she has given. And the heredity provide add answer, Prince Charles, and a spare, the next in line, Prince William. A fact that what britain can look forward to now is succession of elderly, white, probably bald men as head of state. When the queen came to the throne, she was a glamorous 25yearold young woman with a handsome husband by her side. The prospect for the house of windsor is not nearly so easy to see. Its not nearly so easy, i would think, to sell to a younger generation who is adds jerry pointed out, has been brought up with a different set of expectations about duty and service, who are being encouraged to put their own feelings ahead of their obligations, where saying the right Thing And Signaling the right thing is almost more important than doing the right thing. What we saw today was a great exercise in doing the right thing. Well said. Let me bring in Benjamin Hall on the grounds of Windsor Castle for us today. Benjamin, as we think about the future and look ahead and some people might say, well, people will be very excited about william and kate, catherine, the Duchess Of Cambridge and the future they might represent. Theyve done a stunning job, i think by most accounts of not putting a Foot Wrong and having had a sense of duty, but of course, Prince Charles will come first in line after Queen Elizabeth, as i say, Queen Elizabeths mother lived to be 102, 103, but we will expect that she will be healthy and reigning for quite some time, but your thought as inevitably thinks about the future eventually. And you couldnt help, but notice that throughout the funeral and as we heard one of your guests earlier, it felt like the start of a new chapter as they walked into the sunlight, but for a long time the future of the monarchy was defined as William And Harry, modernizers into the new Generation And Chatter in the tabloids and newspapers how maybe the Queen And Philip represented the old monarchy so loved because people in the u. K. Didnt know any other royal and after her passing would it be as easy to galvanize the public affection the same way and William And Harry were going to do that and kate as well. With the split will are concerns who would take that on. The popularity of the royals is incredibly high at the moment and i think theres great respect for catherine, Kate And William and seems strong. And the eagleeyed royal watchers have already been looking through the funeral and picking out various points and there are references that some of the people and attendees were wearing. For example, kate was wearing diamonds from the Queens Collection as well as a wellknown Pearl Necklace which diana wore and the duchess of cornwell wearing from the princes regiment and Meghan And Harry left a wreath outside of st. Georges chapel and in true meghan fashion, who made it, what it entailed and we dont know the message, the flowers and what they represented and seems like Thats Something that no one else in the Royal Family probably would have done to signal, so obviously, what they had done and the wreath they left and what size it was and the flowers in it. And yet, meghan, over in california seems to have just done that, shes released details of her tribute and were hearing from friends of hers how sad she is. You talk about the royals and how Parred Down this service was and pared down and simple it was and now we hear about this wonderful Wreath And Everything about it outside of the chapel, but that news just breaking at the moment. But the future of the Royal Family at the moment i would say is strong. You speak to most people here, they understand what it stands for i dont know in america it feels the same. Its probably hard understand particularly with Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. We dont know anything else, its a frightening thought of the queen not being here. But what a sendoff from people around the world and talking about, World Leaders, it wasnt just allies, but it was President Putin and president Xi Jinping and President Biden said what a heck of a guy he was and President Trump saying that Prince Philip with the quiet fortitude in the United Kingdom and like The Story that Prince Philip was viewed as a god in an island. And who will be the next reincarnation of Prince Philip that he was the reincarnation of a god who left to mayor aqueen. He was a man with a sense of humor, and sense of duty very rare, he gave his life to duty and gave up his career for duty and the queen will be missing him terribly. He was the only person, only person in the world who called her by her first name and so, that reason and so many others, its clear she will be feeling such great Sadness Today and over the next week and we did see that from her and her son charles. Spot on. Benjamin hall, thank you for that and amazing to think that there comes a time when theres only one person and then no one who calls you by your first name in your whole world. She lost her mother, lost her Sister Margaret back in 2002 and now her husband who has been at her side for 73 years, who she fell madly in love with with as a teenager, and parents maybe thought it was too young. And philip, the dashing young naval office and great, greatgrandchildren of Queen Victoria, descended from the same line. And bringing in, the Media Correspondent and reporter, neil, whats on your mind . What was interesting and i thought was sweet today. At the service there were three relatives of the late duke who were not allowed to attend the queen and dukes wedding because it was seem illadvised because of the connection. And how sweet all of these later they were allowed. And as you touched on, what a really romantic love story, 13 years old, she says this man, falls in love, and truly never looks at another man again and he really becomes her Prince And Night in shining armor and i think what weve seen is a wonderful woman, a truly unique lady who has led this country and the commonwealth for so many years and i just hope she continues to do so for many years to come. A great point. Philip had four sisters, he jo ut lived them all and he invited some of their children, grandchildren, to be part of this Ceremony Today. He wanted you know, he was very involved in this in terms of who would be able to participate and you know, Queen Elizabeth, obviously, begins a new life as she looks ahead in these days to come, neil, and we see the photo of her i think youre going to see a lot of over the course of today and in the coming days of her alone in the chapel and alone in the back of that car. Final thought, neil, before we say goodbye . I think that everybody here who has been watching this around the world wishes Her Majesty the queen well and thank you, martha, for supplying wonderful commentary and Fox News for representing great britain, United Kingdom so well on such a special day.
