The shooting happened at a Fedex Facility at an Indianapolis Airport and several people are being treated in the hospital for injuries. They say its too soon to identify the gunman who reportedly didnt talk to anyone before opening fire. There was no confrontation with anyone that was there, no disturbance or argument, he just appeared to randomly start shooting. Sandra Bryan Llenas is following this for us at this hour. Brian, what do we know . The metropolitan police say the shooter arrived at the Fedex Facility, got out of his car and started just shooting just after 11 00 p. M. Last night. In just 2 minutes a menace to kill eight people, including for people outside of the fedex Operations Center and then for others outside of the facility before shooting himself. Five people were transferred to the hospital and four had nonfatal gunshot wounds. The fbi is searching the home of the person they believe is the shooter and police have not identified him nor have they given a motive. We do not know if he is or ever was a fedex employee. A rifle has been recovered and investigators have yet to begin the process of identifying the victims who died to be able to notify their loved ones. In fact, families of fedex employees gathered at a local holiday inn. They have been heartbreakingly waiting hours for updates because most employees are not allowed to carry their Cell Phones inside that fedex building. They were able to give me that he was on The Other building when it happened, im so thankful. My heart goes out to all those people affected. Im kind of sitting here waiting in limbo to hear some kind of response. President biden just released a Statement Ordering flags lowered at halfstaff saying in part what a cruel weight in fate that happens every day somewhere in our nation. Gun violence is an epidemic in america but we should not accept it, we must act. The i mpd Deputy Chief said during a Press Conference a couple of hours ago that at this point its a safe assumption that all of those who are okay in that building have been reunited with their families. And what we learned he is the first lawmaker to publicly make this claim to make this push, we do know that privately democrats have been lobbying for this. I dont think that the court is going to respond in a positive way as an institution and im certain that Justice Breyer cannot be dictated to by the Freshman Congressman from new York City. There are various reports in the area that police are investigating the shooting on the West Side, at least for nearby hospitals have been placed on a modified lockdown. Police are responding to this in this moment and we are just learning more about this as we get new information and we will bring that to our viewers. John and update now, we are still watching the situation unfolding in San Antonio, where we are getting reports of multiple victims in a police involved shooting. According to some local affiliates there, by standard say that theyve heard as many as eight shots. This is occurring off of Penn Road near westfield, that is near joint base lackland. This comes just a day after a Mass Shooting at the San Antonio airport was narrowly averted when a Police Officer took out a guy who was firing indiscriminately outside of the airport. It was a parks Police Officer who was working overtime, according to the San Antonio police. We dont know if these two things are connected or not but what we are looking at now there is the corner of Penn Road near westfield where you see the police you see the police have got this area cordoned off as they are investigating, again, as many as eight shots that were fired in what is being described as a police involved shooting with multiple casualties involved in all of this as well. Sandra for those who know the area, some of the local reports on the ground say there are many schools in close proximity to where this is happening and four are being reported in lockdown right now, obviously with it being the middle of the school day. Police are telling people to avoid the area if possible. Right now, but all we know are multiple victims are involved. We are waiting for some sort of official statement from police but an officerinvolved shooting, we believe this to have happened about an hour and a half ago. As you continue to mention, we got the intersection and got the live shot up and will continue to watch this. John Ted Williams is on the phone with us. This didnt get a whole lot of play but this parks Police Officer who people say narrowly avoided a Mass Shooting at the San Antonio airport by taking down a suspect who was firing indiscriminately outside, again, it did not get a lot of play. But we dont know if what we are seeing today on the ground here in San Antonio is in any way related to this or if this is a separate Police Action . Are you hearing anything about it . I havent heard anything yet about it, im waiting for some additional information to come to me about it. But this again tells you clearly the danger of Police Work and why it is so significant and important to understand what Police Officers are going through. Police officers act in a manner that actually protects the public under the circumstances. Sandra we are getting another local report from the ground that there could be an update coming from the San Antonio police in about 10 minutes. We will look to confirm that ourselves as we still dont know much about this. Ted to come and take us through what is probably happening at an Investigation Level right now, knowing so far that there are multiple victims involved, that this is an officerinvolved shooting and that this is obviously a residential neighborhood where we are also learning that many schools are in the area. For many schools in the area, if they are students in their schools at this time, they are in a shutdown motive. The area in which the shooting has occurred would it be considered a Crime Scene. And so what youve got our detectives and Police Officers who are going through that Crime Scene to try to see what took place and how it took place. And that becomes really important. What we have is a Traffic Stop. There were three individuals in the vehicle, and the truck. The officer walked up to the vehicle and stood there for just a few short minutes having what appeared to be a casual conversation with the driver and im not sure why but the driver pulled a gun and started firing at the officer my understanding is once in the radio as well. He retreated backward, returning fire. Inside the vehicle, the passenger and the driver were both shot. They are both deceased and the third passenger was transported to the hospital, shot in the upper torso. Thats what we have right now. Thats all the information as i know it. Can you tell us how long hes been on . Hes been on for five years. He was transported to the hospital. What was the reason for the Traffic Stop. I dont know the reason for the Traffic Stop. Biko is of the officer that was shot . My understanding is he is talking and im going to go visit him now, but i have not spoken to him and i dont know his condition other than he was shot in the hand. Do you have a description of the deceased . Both male, appear to be in their 20s, may be midtolate 20s. The third subject, i dont know any descriptors on that person. We saw a woman being transported out. I could have possibly been that woman . Yes, im sure it was. Any other questions . Were there any other officers mr. Mike known. He was by himself and i will tell you again that he approached the vehicle, spoke very casually at the window for maybe a minute and a half or 2 minutes. Then all of a sudden, the gun was pulled and he ran backward, and returned fire and the result was two deceased on the vehicle and a third person injured from the gunshot wound. I will also say that the officer is very, very lucky to be alive at that close range. Having been shot in the hand and not somewhere else more vital. The surprising thing was the conversation at the door was very casual. When you say casual, how casual . There was no excited motioning with her hands or anything like that, it was quick, casual conversation from the appearance. So about how many shots were fired. We were hearing 20, not sure if thats true or not but i wanted to get an estimate about how many. Was there ten or five or lots of shots . I know there were ten shots fired from the truck but i dont know how many from the Police Officer at this point. There were multiple rounds but i couldnt tell you how many exactly. How long do you plan on being out here . Well be out here for a couple of hours. At what how hard is it to shoot its difficult, but my understanding is the Firearmd A Malfunction and he was actually able to reload in pretty quick time. Next question. Did you see the officer have any blood that i dont know. He was an Officer Patrolling here and a routine Traffic Stop that turned out to be not so routine after all. Thank you. The driver and the person in the front Passenger Seat are deceased. The officer was able to retreat and fired back into the vehicle. He has been five years with the forest and he is talking at the moment, the sheriff is off to visit him at this moment. He always have to be on alert. Its fortunate that this Law Officer is not worse than what weve been told. As i listen to the individual with that department speaking about what took place with this officer, the first thing i started thinking about was most recently what happened in New Mexico where we had a Police Officer on a routine Traffic Stop to stop a man. Police work is dangerous and i think that this is an example of what is taking place here today. How dangerous Police Work is.
