You have would think by now he would know who the Associated Press reporter is or who is the pbs reporter is or who the nbc reporter is he didnt seem to know who the fox reporter was but he didnt call on peter doocy. Steve no, he knows who he is. Oh, absolutely. His handlers decided that of the 10 reporters that he would call on he wouldnt call on the highest rated network in cable. That makes a lot of sense, unless you are actually afraid of the question, which appeared to be the case. But, what i wonder here is, what actual news came out of this Press Conference, when you think about it. Okay, the big headline i guess is that a sitting president said that he would run for reelection, which is something that all president s do, right . When was the last one that didnt run for reelection i think it was lbj, right . Go all the way back to the 60s. On the border and taxes and spending and on Foreign Policy, particularly as it pertains to china, we didnt get any specifics. On the border we got no solutions in terms of that. Remember, the president , he appointed Vice President harris to handle the border, to fix that crisis. This is the same Vice President that as a candidate, when she was running for president , compared ice to the k can k. Said that Border Crossing should be decriminalized. And this is the person that you are putting in charge of this . That would have been a nice question to ask or as a parent go ahead. Just one more little thing here. As a parent, what people i talk to most talk about reopening schools fully and in person. Here you had a president that talked about listening to the doctors and the science and following the data. Yet, still, reopening schools is a big problem because he wont stand up to the teachers union. So, mr. President , you just passed this covid19 bill where billions are being spent to reopen schools yet, most of that money isnt going to be spent until 2022 when the pandemic is likely over . What do you say to parents that want to reopen now . Those sort of questions were not asked, guys. Steve i thought a very telling and it made News Question and answer was the fact that joe biden revealed that he thinks the filibuster is racist, essentially. So, was it racist last year when the democrats filibustered against tim scotts, you know, judicial reform crime bill. Was it racist back in, i think it was 2005 when joe biden joined the filibuster against sam alito . When, exactly, did it start being racist . That is a good question to ask, right . So, you could bring up the fact that barack obama did say that it was a jim crow relic but then you have to read back mr. Bidens words the way that tim russert used to do so well, mr. Biden in 2005, you said this was something you were most passionate about in terms of defending the filibuster. Read back the quote and say okay, are you that person or are you now this person . And why the change . How did you evolve on the issue which is the big word in washington . Yeah, that would have been nice to do for a press corps thats been doing this for a while, but, instead, we got not even softballs but mostly grape fruits tossed to the president yesterday with the exception of Kristen Welker who actually pressed him on allowing the press to see Migrants Facilities and asking him in a followup when will that happen and he said i dont know. Steve he is the president. He should know. I wont do it until i wont do it until my plan is implemented. I thought you brought up a great point, joe, about the schools. Because there were lots of things that werent talked about, the xl pipeline, jobs, businesses reopening. But the School Opening was a really important one. Chuck todd said there were no questions on covid because there is nothing negative to report. Thats what chuck todd said. And i kept thinking ask the parents. I mean, it was shocking to me. But i think what all of this tells me the things that werent talked about and the fact that so much was on the border, which they created this crisis, is that this administration is much more focused on creating new voters than they are in taking care of current american citizens. Thats interesting. How do you create a new voter. Maybe if a migrant comes to this country then you spend 86 million to put them up in hotel rooms for months, were talking about 70,000 per migrant. What do you say, mr. President , to all those Homeless People currently in, say, california, for instance, and los angeles, and San Francisco . Are you going to give them 70,000 as well to live in a hotel while you try to figure out a problem . These are very easy things to ask . And, again, the tone of this Press Conference, where there were times where joe biden was speaking for minutes on end and those interruptions that were so familiar over the Trump Administration and over his Press Conferences suddenly went away. They didnt they allowed this president to, ironically filibuster his way through a Press Conference at times. And, again, the optics, the fact that the leader of the free world needs to look down at not just like a note card with maybe a theme, just a bullet point here and there, but notes that go they look like cliff notes and he was reading from them directly at times. That does not reflect well to our adversaries in china and russia and iran that the folks that are watching this say okay, who are we dealing with right now . We are dealing with somebody that needs to have his answers written out for him at times and it was just it was a very uncomfortable thing to watch yesterday, guys. Will hey, joe, i appreciate what you said about the lack of substance. When it comes to anything related to important policies this country is facing, crises this country is facing. Back to that moment, again, whether or not there will be transparency at the border, i thought that was very, not just news worthy but news making to have the president of the United States say we will not have transparency essentially until im ready for it. Can you look at my house but not until i get it in order is quite a statement for the president to say when it comes to press freedom. But, joe, our colleagues in the media, took all of this into account, digested all of this and thought bra vo, beautiful performance by biden, watch. This biggest news was argue whether i in his opening statement, quite a contrast to the previous president who always wanted to be the center of attention. There is a sense of humanity that he is talking about here saying this is who we are. This is the america that we are. We are not going to turn these kids away. Instead that punditry that you saw emotion what President Biden projected to the country in terms of him being the consoler in chief. Sender set the tone for, this right . Then you talk to the president of mexico who says oh, no, no, no. Its because candidate biden said literally to surge the border when he was a candidate. Or you talk to migrants themselves in interviews that say yes, it was President Biden and then candidate bidens words that embolden us to come to the border. So, thats the funny part. When you talk to people on the ground even Texas Democrats or folks in border states like arizona, they will say things that are a lot different than the president was saying yesterday, but there you saw pundits yesterday on television, reporters, actually, taking everything that the president said hook, line and sinker in terms of being a moral, decent man, instead of a person that solves problems. And right now we have a big problem at the border and in many other areas as well in this country. I didnt get any solutions there. Rachel. Rachel he didnt know basic facts. So when he was asked about unity he said well what i mean by unity is that Republican Voters support me and democratic supporters support me, so, therefore, thats what im going to go ahead with in terms of nuking the filibuster and pushing everything forward on an infrastructure bill, for instance, that has very little to do with infrastructure but does have everything to do with free college and paid family leave and equity. So, thats what we are talking about here. Again, his basis of his foundation of fact is republicans support me, yet, 10 do in gallup or mostly every other poll. The big question is who is typing all this stuff out for the president so that he is saying it out loud . How close are the kids, the sleeping situation, describe that . I mean, they had the whole fema cots and agents are doing the best they can. They have 500 personnel working full time in this facility in dallas. And they are sleeping literally head to feet. The cots are just a few feet from each other. They are going around in pods of 50 to go get lunch to do their 5minute supervised shower. You know, and how these facilities dont become covid hot beds i dont know. I mean, but they are not designed to do it. They are just designed to help these poor children to survive. And the humanitarian crisis, again, on this administration created is absolutely heartbreaking. They have been told that the United States government will pretty much fly you anywhere you want to go in the United States just tell us where you want to go and we will make sure you get there. And, you know, we are going to get into some of them in this segment. Rachel i think one of the first lies that was told or maybe it was misinformation if he doesnt know thats really bad as well. He says that the border surge that were seeing right now is just happens every year. Take a look. Whats interesting is he called on 10 reporters during the transition and the campaign, they always had a list as well. And they only had 5. So now that he is president , he is taking 10 questions. So, you dialed up like 10 Different Things. The first one we want to take a look at is talking about the southern border which is a crisis. Joe biden who is denying access to the press to the southern border says he will be transparent just not right now. Watch the dial lines. The red is for republicans, the blue is for democrats, and the yellow independents. We will commit to transparency and as soon as i am in a position to be able to implement what we are doing right now. One of the reasons that i havent gone down, i have all my chief folks have gone down is i dont want to become the issue, so this is being set up and you will have full access to everything once we get this thing moving. Just to be clear, how soon will that be, mr. President . I dont know. Steve lee, hes the president. He is the decider in chief. If he wanted to go down last night he could have gone down last night. He sure could have. And he still doesnt know. And now, the truth is, democrats are giving him the benefit of the doubt and they are saying we are going to stand by him. They gave this a b. You can see independents and republicans have significant questions. Independents found this answer to be completely unsatisfactory. They want to hear what is going on. They want him to take charge and they want to know. This is, to them, a crisis. Its an important issue. He promised he was going to fix the border, and he hasnt. People are concerned about it. Republicans unsurprisingly are outraged. But i think really looking at those independent voters on their in particular is really significant. And its it [inaudible] independents supporting joe biden. Steve i have been watching online and seen a number of peoples regarding the president s demeanor. There are a lot of people talking about how he appeared confused at times. We have got a clip that you dialed up where he is discussing the filibuster and he just runs out of gas. Watch. Im going to Say Something outrageous. I have never been particularly poor at calculating how to get things done in the United States senate. So the best way to get something done, if you if you hold near and dear to you that you like to be able to anyway, i we are ready to get a lot done. Steve what i think is interesting about the grades and democrats gave tan a and independents a c, this is the only question where republicans gave him a d rather than an f. Is it because they felt sorry for him or what . I mean, republicans really look at at this as a gaffe. They looked at this as he was just wandering it off. The independents say look, is he getting stuff done but this isnt great, you know, it was seen more or less as a gaffe, nothing necessarily dangerous but people have questions about it. Will at least five people were killed in alabama. More than a dozen tornadoes have been reported. Steve senior Meteorologist Janice Dean joins us with the very latest. You have been talking the last couple of days about the potential for this and last night it happened. Janice yeah, unfortunately, all of the forecasts came true in some of the areas where we had that Bulls Eye Yesterday for the worst of the Severe Weather. We knew that there was the possibility for long track devastating tornadoes and as the sun comes up they are going to be assessing the damage. Yeah, over close to two dozen reports of tornadoes in just 24 hours and then we had this, you know, Tornado Outbreak across portions of Central Alabama into georgia and, again, the National Weather service will go out and put a rating on these storms but the devastation, obviously, is incredible and the loss of life is just tragic. The good news is the cold front that is moving across the southeast is weakening so we are not going to see the tremendous damage that we Saw Yesterday. We could see, you know, a couple of spots where we could see some large hail, damaging winds. Maybe a risk of one or two tornadoes, but thats going to be really tomorrow. Tomorrow is when we are going to see almost the same scenario that we Saw Yesterday and even last week with a bulls eye across portions of the mid Mississippi Valley and tennessee and ohio valley. So the forecast radar is going to show you that next storm system moving out of the plain states and there is that risk. So, an enhanced risk for parts of tennessee, certainly, down towards alabama and then up into portions of the ohio valley. So, know what you are going to do if there is a watch or a warning. Plan ahead as best as you can. Where are you going to go . Lowest portion of your home, interior closet, a bathroom, and have a way to get those warnings. Especially if they come in the overnight hours because thats when it is really dangerous. People are not paying attention. So the rest of the forecast today we have snow across the rockies, that next storm system comes out into the plain states, the mississippi tennessee and ohio valley on saturday. And then that cold front is going to sweep across the east coast. Meantime, very warm temperatures across the east. I mean, 77 in new york. Thats pretty significant. So, there is your silver lining, warm across the estate coast, the storms that brought the incredible damage across the mid south are going to weaken but we have to Pay Attention tomorrow and we are just starting Severe Weather season so really people need to be on alert and knowing what to do when those storms come into their area. Good morning, steve, good morning, will, hi, rachel. Rachel hi, good morning. Steve its good to have you. So you are taking some heat because, you know, you had previously said im going to sign that thing. And now you have backed away from that explain whats going on. No. Well, we all agree that girls should play girls sports. And im working every day to defend that did i not veto the bill, steve. What i did was ask for some changes and im asking the legislature then to sign it. I want to make sure that we can protect girls and that we only have girls playing in girls sports. So, this bill is very different, very flawed and i want it fixed before i sign it into law. Will governor noem i would love to ask you what those fixes might be but i want to pay you the respect of addressing the criticism directly and head on. The concerns out there are not about your principles. I believe most people think you are principally conservative. It has to too with strength whether or not threats from the ncaa forced you or encouraged you or persuaded you to back off of those principles. The question is whether or not you have the strength to stand by those principles. Well, i would just say look at my history. Years ago i fought on this issue. Years ago the federal government tried to force the sport of rodeo to eliminate girls and boys events and let all genders play in all sports. I was the only one that fought them. I stood without the help of any other members of congress, no other governors helped me. This is when i was in the house. And i won this fight with u. S. Da and allowed rodeo to still have girls be in girls sports and boys be in boys sports. I have proven myself on this issue and i have been working on this for many, many years. Also im surprised that people could think i could do what i did during the year of cody we went through and not be sprong. Im hillaryly the only governor of this country that never once mandated masks, never put anything on by people such as shelter in place. I did not close a single business. I didnt even define what an essential business was because i dont believe that governors have the authority to tell you that your business isnt essential. I went through that entire year being the only governor making the decisions that i was making and was Strong Enough to do that so what im doing here is trying to make sure that we have a victory. I understand getting into a fight but i dont want to fight just to fight. I want to fight to win. And i want to make sure that we really do push the ncaa down, push big businesses down and we really end up with a victory that allows us to really make sure only girls play in girls sports. Will governor, lets apply that strength if we might one moment to this bill. As i understand it there are two criticisms from your office on this bill one being that it is subject to lawsuit from people like or organizations like the aclu and the bill needs to be tightened up. I certainly understand that concern. But the other revolves around the ncaa and if they yank tournaments out of south dakota does that change your position . So what i want to ask you is this. If you resolve the style and form, if you resolve the lawsuit issue and all you are left with is the threats of the ncaa, will you sign this bill . Well, this bill is revisions and changes to several different parts of the bill. This bill is very different than the other bills that you see moving across the country. It has flaws in them that these other bills do not have. And it opens up people, families, School Districts to litigation into the future. I asked the legislature to change it to fix it, and allow us to go and fight with the ncaa and do that. Thats why im asking everybody to join my coalition, my compact of states its called defend title ix now. Com. Please. Defend title ix now. Com and join us. We need to put the pressure on them. We need to get changes. We need to do it in a way that really enacts change to protect womens sports at the College Level and to make sure that we are protecting girls sports at the k12 level as well. Rachel governor, you have done a lot to protect all babies, male and female with a bill that is coming forth right now and for you to sign in south dakota. It will stop essentially people from getting abortions based on a down syndrome prenatal dtion sis. Tell us about the bill. You know its dear to my heart i have little baby valentina who was with you when we announced when you announced the bill. Tell us more about the bill and where it stands and when it will actually be signed. Rachel, i actually signed that bill yesterday. So it is now completed and i have a ceremonial copy of the bill that im going to be mailing to you and to valentina because of your part in this important piece of legislation thats going to protect our precious babies. So two months ago you guys came to south dakota for my state of the state address where i talked about this bill being incredibly important to me and to our state. There are countries in the world that are basically eliminating babies with down syndrome. What they are doing is when they get a diagnosis in womb is that they are allowing abortions to continue based solely on that diagnosis. What i did in south dakota here is say that you cannot have an abortion based on a diagnosis of down syndrome. And the lemmings lay temperature agreed with me. We signed it into law and i want to thank you for your important part in that because your story is powerful. Everybody who meets valentina falls in love with her. She is incredibly special. We all recognize that every single life is precious and this bill is one more step to making sure we protect every single baby. Rachel thank you, i appreciate that we are talking about authentic tolerance. There is a lot of talk in our country about tolerance and diversity and here we are aborting those that are different. There are some statistics that tell us that two out of every three pregnancies that are a down syndrome baby get aborted today based on that diagnosis. So, incredibly important that we protect all people no matter if they are different, more special, have an extra chromosome that we make sure that we are protecting those lives as well. Interesting to watch the press not treat him the way they treated donald trump. That is a little bit to me like saying youre having a mostly peaceful protest with fires burning in the background, will joe biden be defined by his moment of clarity or confusion . It went beyond moments of confusion into moment of dishonesty. It is worse for donald trump has Getting Better when the numbers are as follows. Substantively, i wasnt asked if his answers were correct, only that they were coherent. Joe biden the substantively President Biden believes in a more compassionate approach to the situation at the border and in this case, good intentions and naivete have blown up in the face of america by his welcoming by the mexican president promoting joe biden as the immigrant for you to say this more compassionate, more humane than Donald Trumps legacy on the southern border, there is a Global Pandemic and the federal government over joe biden has children in Detention Centers and 1500 overcapacity. It turned into superspreader events. May be the intention is good but the execution is terrible because there is real danger at the facilities when it comes to covid because north of 10 of every kid coming in has got it. Absolutely true and that is the downside to his compassionate approach. He is using everyone understands President Biden is using title 42 which donald trump has promoted, anyone who arrives at the southern border without authorization gets turned out immediately. And with the exception of children under the age of 18, joe biden simply will not budge on children under the age of 18, the 40 sixth president of the United States believes American Values are such that we embrace youngsters accompanying them across the southern border. He wants those kids taken care of on the american side different from donald trump. Is that inviting other kids to come, is that exacerbating the crisis at the southern border . Probably. Hes the victim of his own good intentions. I think you need combination of his compassion and trumps hardnosed pragmatism to make the border a sane place but right now there is chaos. We have to see where children are being kept in cages, we have to make sure there is a system being developed to absorb these children either in the foster care system or other hhs facilities which right now if we were given access to these facilities i fear what we would see is chaos, children being abused. Not just there are poor conditions, i take issue with this idea of wrapping up the policy in humanitarian, and it is easier for children to get assistance and turned over to very bad individuals after they leave Detention Centers. This is not compassion. Yesterday, talked about a little boy who came by himself from honduras as a 9yearold and for those of us who live the lives we live to say that is okay, encouraging that a policy encouraging kids to come alone, he walked alone, a 9yearold. I just cant imagine. I am so confused by it and to say it is not a surge, it is under control, thats not true. He is calling up Foster Parents who should be taking care of american kids, telling people in the federal government to take a leave of absence and deployed to the refugee center, opening up our military centers for children so we dont open them up for our own homeless. This focus on the border when we should be focused on getting our country back, kids back in school come our economy back and our jobs back. Platform typical for biden under his Current Administration but let me handle this, it was very important. In terms of the 9yearold kid coming without any supervision by an adult, a kid who has been on his own for 1500 miles from guatemala all the way across mexico to the us border. He crosses the border and gets nabbed by the Border Patrol. I have 5 kids, weve all had 9yearolds and we know their capacity. Imagine the terror of the parents and the child in unleashing a 9yearold to cross the border on his own. A mexican and guatemalan, hunter runs and salvadorans love their children as much as americans. It must be horrible pain in their heart to set their child loose on the border. The president is probably right in my view that the 9yearold should be kept in the United States, find a facility for the 9yearold. The headline that i think is really underreported, under donald trump lopez obrador, the mexican president , did everything donald trump wanted him to do. He mustered the mexican army, he used the mexican army to keep the guatemalans in their own country, keep them from crossing into mexico. He was an obstacle to the entire trek north, with biden he says the smartest american liberal president who will fix everything with american compassion, the mexican army is not involved. Steve you are blaming mexico . South of the border, that is part of the story that has been grossly underreported. The Mexican Government and mexican president is upset that bidens policies and initiatives we had our own griff jenkins, this is a disaster here because of the surge and ruining Small Businesses on the border, crime has gone up, drugs have gone up, we are upset by these policies and joe biden is lying when he says Donald Trumps policies werent working, they were. We all used to say the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
