Rolling back the policies of separating children from their mothers . Make no apology for that. Is what is happening inside acceptable to you and when is this going to be fixed . Thats a serious question, right . Its unacceptable to me. Come on. Thats why well move 1,000 of those kids out quickly. Neil all right. President biden in his First Press Conference of his 65day old presidency. Questioned again and again over the crisis at the border even though he refused to call it a crisis himself. The ramifications of what he said and what he is signalling, especially with regard to blaming his predecessor for a lot of the problems that the country is facing right now. Were on on the of it all. Welcome. Im neil cavuto, this is your world. First right now from the white house, we have peter doocy who is i think the only reporter that didnt get a chance to talk to the president. Not one question. Im sure with us not anything personal. Peter . Felt like that. There were about 20 people that did not get to go. Im sure they were all just as prepared as we were. An hour and ten minutes, neil, the president remains vague about when it is the American Public is going to get a look at what exactly is happening in the Border Patrol process facilities as the New York Times is being jaillike and overcapacity and many children have been staying way beyond the 72hour legal limit. Given the conditions that were just laid out, at the Migrant Facilities at the u. S. Border, will you commit to allowing journalists to have access to the facilities that are overcrowded moving forward . I will commit when my plan very shortly is underway to let you have access to not just them but other facilities as well. How soon will journalists have access to the facilities that obviously have been allowed to be inside one . We havent seen the facilities in which children are packed together to really give the American People a chance to see that. Will you commit to transparency on this issue . I will commit to transparency as soon as we can implement what were doing right now. One of the reasons i havent gone down, my chief folks have gone down, i dont want to become the issue. I dont want to be, you know, bringing all of the Secret Service and everybody with me to get in the way. So about this surge of migrants, the mexican president says he thinks its happening because biden created the expectations minors wont be turned away. Biden is saying he doesnt think that abruptly rolling back tougher trump era policies as the border has anything to do with this surge that we are seeing. I make no apologies for any programs that did not exist before trump became president that have an incredibly negative impact on the law, International Law as well as on human dignity. I make no apologies for that. It did seem like immigration was the question that the ten reporters that had an opportunity to talk to the president went to the most. No questions about the issue that the president led off with, which is covid19 and covid19 vaccinations. Neil . Neil so peter, settle this for me. Looks like he had an index card or cards and the order of reporters that he would talk. That was what he stuck to. This wasnt spontaneous. No, it was not. He did have a list. Looked like it was a first name an an outlet. Thats not the only piece of paper. Looked like like jen psaki goes to the lectern or podium with a briefing book. He was referring to based on different topics to tabs that he had or pages about statistics, policies, plans. There was a lot of stuff up there. I was in the third row. I couldnt really see everything but he did come prepared. Neil all right. As did you. Peter doocy at the white house. As peter said, a big subject is what is happening at the border, particularly the 16,000 migrant minors. Most of them teenagers in this country and may be here for quite a while. Steve harrigan in mission, texas with how that is going. Steve . Thats right. 16,000 plus. More arriving, as many as 500 every day. Its a question of numbers. President biden tried to put the issue of Unaccompanied Minors in perspective. He said age 16 or 17yearolds make up more than 70 of the minors. Heres the president. Were not talking about people ripping babies from mothers arms. Its 1. 5 fall in the category of the very young. So what were doing is were providing nor the space, again, to be able to get these kids outs of the Border Patrol facilities, which no child, no one should be in any longer than 72 hours. So far were seeing two very different perspectives, two very different pictures how these children are being housed on the border. Yesterday an official tour with one camera allowed along in carrizo springs, texas. This is an Hhs Facility Which was in pristine condition, schooling, nurses, education, recreation. Everything involved there. Very different picture just 200 miles down the border in donna, texas. This is a customs and Border Protection facility. This time no cameras allowed in. The pictures leaked out showing overcrowding. More like a jail than a place to hold children. We learned facts about how to get children out as quickly as possible. The military says theyre opening a dormitory and land. So theres some alleviation in the short term. Neil, back to you. Neil thanks, steve. Lets go to The Border Union vice president. Chris, very good to have you back. Did anything you heard from the president , chris, ease your fears that this crisis, even though hes not calling that, will not worsen . You know, nothing i heard. I heard of a lot of the problems but none of the actual solutions. One of the things that i picked up on right away is they were talking about how when kids come in, theyll get these numbers called within hours and right now its been weeks or months. That couldnt be further from the truth. When our guys encounter and unaccompanied child, the first thing we do is pull the child aside, get the phone number and call the parent to let them know, give them some peace of mind to let them know their child is safe. That couldnt be further from the truth. Neil chris, the 16,000 that are there, largely teenagers, right . Is there a way to break it down for us . Theres a lot of teenagers. Quite a few 16, 17yearold males but a lot of 7 and 8yearolds. A big number of small, very Vulnerable Children out there. The scary part for me is these kids are making this journey by themselves. A 5yearold or 7yearold traveling in a pack of other children. Its just a very dangerous thing to do. I just i dont know how we can constantly continually allow this process to continue by continuing to let people in and reunit them with family here. Knowing theyre putting these children at risk through this journey. Neil i know you dont like to wade into politics much. The president said this spike at the border is not very different than spikes even in his predecessor experienced when there was a 30 increase in 2019. These things happen no matter what your stance on policing the border. What did you make of that . You know, i did see i noticed that. You know, while it is true that every voting cycle ive been through, since ive been in the patrol, theres some type of spike, i have never seen one to this degree. The other part of that is weve never seen it where were having mass numbers turn themselves in as well as huge numbers of people still trying to get away. So its busy on two fronts for us. You bring in the human smuggling, drug smuggling. Two months ago, it was quieter or not insanely slow but slower than it is right now. Its picked up significantly since the change of power. Neil chris, thank you. I know you have your work cut out for you. The Border Patrol union havent following on the developments. Well have more later and talk about some of the plans the administration might have to relieve those crowds here. So far were not getting any clear signals on that. Meantime any clear signals coming on cooperation on capitol hill, that is the administration with republicans. The president did acknowledge he has a tough time, but the republicans in the senate and the house. He doesnt have a time time with americans that voted for those republicans. Republicans in general, the president argues, they like what hes doing. Do they . After this. Mm. [ clicks tongue ] i dont know. I think they look good, man. Mm, smooth. Uh, they are a little tight. Like, too tight . Might just need to break em in a little bit. You dont want em too loose. For those who were born to ride theres progressive. With 24 7 roadside assistance. Okay. What i know i have now is i have electoral support from republican voters. Republican voters. Agree with what im doing. So unless mitch says the last thing i did is last piece of legislation is so far left, then he ought to take a look at his party. Over 50 of them must be over that edge as well. They support what i did. Neil all right. The president said he might not be having any luck with republicans on capitol hill, but he does have a Majority Support of republicans throughout the country. Lee carter crunches the numbers all the time. Gop Polster Extraordinaire and more. Lee, is he right about that . Yes and no. The truth is, the American People are reasonable people. Even republicans will occasionally support democrats despite the way our elected officials behave. They acted like its one way or the other. Republicans are saying, listen, the americans need relief, they support the 1,400 checks that everybody is getting, they support a number of initiatives but they dont support everything. Its somewhat misleading. Yes, 50 of republicans supported the checks and stimulus. They support an increase in minimum wage. They dont support the extent to which theyre talking about. Theres things that republicans and democrats can agree upon. But the bottom line, the republicans have not done a good job to make us understand why this isnt such a good deal. Why arent we talking about for the fact that every 5,000 that you give the american government, theyre going to give you back 1,400. Thats not a good return. Everybody is thankful for the check. Republicans need to be more proactive and better telling their story. Neil this occurs at a time when 120 million of these 1,400 Stimulus Checks have made their way out to americans. I dont know if they have all gotten them but theyre on their way out. That changes someones mood when you see a check like that or a deposit that is automatically done for you. Does it change the view of the guy who led the charge to give them that . You know, it gives them a little bit of a boost towards him. Makes them feel like his on their side. You know, theres a lot of partisanship in this country and a lot of back and forth. When you get something good from the other side, makes you feel good, a lot of republicans out there will feel good about this. But that doesnt mean theyre going to feel good about everything. They wont feel good about the tax hikes coming. They wont feel good about what will happen to companies when the Corporate Tax rate goes up. As much as the democrats are talking about increasing taxes on people that make more than 400,000, theres a trickledown effect. Theres going to be a number of changes that arent so popular. In the moment, yes, theres some good will. But i think theres a lot of questions. The border crisis has got people saying wait a minute. I thought you were going to be more humanitarian and fix this. Its looking worse. Its not all one way or the other. To the extent you get a check and you can do some repairs to your homes or save for a rainy day, people feel good about that. That will take them so far. Neil you know, obviously hes still in the honeymoon period as a new president comes in. How does he you can handle any question i throw at you. How does he compare to his predecessors a couple months in to his presidency . Listen, hes gotten a lot accomplished, a lot of executive orders, a lot of credit for the vaccine roll out whether its right or wrong. People think its accelerated. Hes getting redid it for that. Theres relief in that. People are feeling good about the checks coming into their pockets. But i think really it remains to be seen. Is he doing better than his predecessors . In some way, yes, he learned from the mistakes of barack obama. Barack obama said he couldnt have compromised so much and gotten things done in bigger ways quicker. More to come. Lets see what happens with infrastructure. See what happens when the tax plan is real. Whether you like it or not, theres a long list of accomplishments in the first days of office. Neil yeah, what is that line . You have a run at the table, the house, the senate and the presidency, might as well keep running it until you cant. Thanks, lee. Meantime, weve got the nih director with us, dr. Francis collins. We will by my 100th day in office have administered 200 million shots in peoples arms. Thats right, 200 million shots in 100 days. I know its ambitious, twice our original goal, but no other country in the world is coming close. Neil 200 million shots, 100 days in office. That would be some time the end of next month. Dr. Francis collins here, the nih director. Good to see you, doctor. Doable . The 200 million dose goal . I think its achievable if you look at how were doing. America is rocking this vaccine administration. We need to be. Were up to 2. 5 million doses a day. Were clearly on a path to achieve that. Keep the manufacturing coming and it seems to be in good shape now and get people to those sites and roll up their sleeves. We can do this. Neil what do you think of how its being handled by states . Some are very good and efficient. Others have vaccines that are piling on shelves and not getting distributed fast enough. What do you think . It is variable. Thats for sure. If you want to see the evidence, you can go to cdcs site and see which state is doing what. I was a governor, id be looking at that, too. Wanted to be sure that my production of vaccines in arms was measuring up well. Everybody has had a Learning Curve here. I dont want to be critical of what people are dealing with, figuring up this system and how to do it in a fashion that reaching out to the most vulnerable, the elderly, people from various groups that have higher risks of comorbidities. Thats a complicated thing to set up in a few months. Were hitting our stride. If you ask me what im worried about now, not that well have a shortage of the supply part, its will the hesitancy that is still there in a lot of groups mean that we have troubleg advantage of what we have to get for this hoped for herd immunity. People will say no, not for me. That could basically cause this pandemic to go on longer than it needs to. Neil that seems to be indicating a little bit what dr. Fauci had said about the need for getting the vaccinations out. 60, 70 of the population. I dont remember the specific number. I talked to dr. Marty makary that said you dont need to get that high of percentage of vaccinations out to still get herd immunity. This is dr. Makary earlier today. I want your thoughts. We want everyone to get vaccinated. Thats a universal consensus. You dont want to change the story to manipulate people to get vaccinated. I just think its dishonest. Dr. Fauci repeatedly says we have to vaccinate 70 to 85 in order to reach herd immunity. Its not true. Neil what do you think, doctor . I think what dr. Makary is saying, people that have been infected already by covid19 have a version of immunity also. So maybe we need to add them in as were figuring out whether were getting to that 70 to 85 immunity that is estimated to be necessary to get this virus out of here. Theres a problem though with that. We dont really know what proportion of the population has had covid19. Its not that high if you just document people that have had a positive virus test. The antibodies are not as reliable as you would like. Of course, the degree of immunity is scattered around the country with someplaces have being been hit harder than others. Theres very good evidence now that surprisingly being infected the natural disease of covid19 doesnt provide as much immunity of getting infected the second time. People that have had the disease ought to get vaccinated. Im sorry. I dont know why dr. Makary finds it necessary to turn this into a personal vendetta. Thats not happening either. Lets get the data together and see how to get our nation on the right path. Neil you did mention at the outset, doctor, whats going on in our nation is promising. I look abroad and see things in europe where theyre having a stallered rollout. In brazil where deaths are at an alltime high right now. In italy, theyre urging folks to stay indoors even up to easter sunday. So what is happening or how do you explain these bumps in certain countries and how sure are you we wont encounter the same . Im not entirely sure. A lot of this is driven by the new variants of concern, particularly b 117 that came out of u. K. Its spreading across the United States now. Were in a race against time here that is also causing increasing concerns for people like the head of the cdc. Look at michigan. Steep cases and hospitalizations. All the things we dont want to see in terms of another surge. Europe is in the middle of another surge. Unfortunately, weve been three or four weeks behind europe. I hope not this time. The vaccinations are so aggressively here, 70 of people over 65 have gotten at least one dose. Were in a better place as far as the immunity from the vaccinations than europe is. Were not out of the woods. So as much as people are tired of hearing about it, we have to stick to the Public Health measures to limit the tran mission of this highly infectious variant while we get the country vaccinated and maybe by the summer put it in the rear view mirror. Its name time yet. Neil by the summer can we get rid of the masks . Already you can get rid of the masks in your own home with other people fully vaccinated. Im happy to be able to occasionally do that. You can go see your grand children. If you the grandparents are fully vaccinated. Were going to do this gradually. Its not like one day everybody take off your masks and dont worry about it. Its step by step and more and more situations where its safe. Dr. Francis collins, very good seeing you. Thanks for your hard work. We have the National Institute director, francis collins. Be well, doctor. All right. What theyre doing right now to get those vaccinations out. Forget about the vulnerable population. How about the entire population in georgia, 16 and older now eligible for the covid19. Why the governor decided to do that after this. naj at Fisher Investments, we do things differently and other Money Managers dont understand why. Neil all right. Get the vaccinations out and get them fast. The reading from the president from the United States is about 200 million vaccines will be out to the American People before he wraps up his 100th day in office next month. Count georgia governor brian kemp. Hes speeding things along in the peach state by allowing all georgians 16 and older to get the vaccine. Governor kemp, good to see you. Good to be back, neil. Neil what is the latest right now, governor, on the number people that have gotten one dose . The last number i saw is about two million have received at least that. Where is it now . Yeah, its much more than that. I believe its closer to three. We have vaccinated 75 of our seniors, we vaccinated our first responders, healthcare heros, most of our teachers have now been vaccinated. We lowered the age a few days ago down to 55 and now opening it up to everybody. Neil why did you open it up to of . A slow go getting everyone in that population . I know you said 75 for the 65 and older crowd. Youre sitting on the vaccines and just wanted to get them out . What explains its just dealing with the situation that we have here in georgia and every state is different in a lot of ways. Were seeing tremendous demand in the Metro Atlanta area. Thankfully the federal government has increased the Vaccine Supply that were getting. We were 49th out of 50 per capita for the number of vaccines that we were getting, which is really holding us back. Even though we had great demand in the metro area, in parts of rural georgia, we started seeing the demand drop and started to see the number of appointments go up. So we felt like look, we need to open it up further, give Everybody Eligibility and get shots in arms. Neil governor, i know lawmakers are very close to imposing sweeping new restrictions on voting. That is what critics say, the restrictions on voting and that theyre meant to help republicans and hurt democrats. Is that true . Well, im glad you clarified the word restrictions. When you look at this bill and what i stand for and i have for over a decade, we need to have secure accessible fair elections. Weve done that in georgia. What this bill actually does is fight the rhetoric from those that are fundraising off of this issue and polarizing it to take away from the unconstitutional power grab of hr1 going on in washington d. C. Right now. It further secures our Absentee Ballots by mail by requiring a photo i. D. Requirement, which the vast majority of georgians support and adding days of early voting on the weekends. Were expanding the right to vote in georgia. Youre not hearing that from the other side. Thats what the truth is and thats what its doing, neil, as well as further securing Absentee Ballot boxes, which didnt exist before and completely contrary to what theyre trying to do in d. C. But doing away with the states photo i. D. Requirement, by, you know, doing away with it being illegal to harvest ball lots in georgia, making that mandatory at the federal level. I fought very hard over a decade now to keep our voter rolls in secure. When i was Secretary Of State and support that as governor. You wouldnt be able to do that with hr1. So i think the people really need to look at who is trying to restrict things as the democrats in washington, not republicans that continue to make it easy 0 vote and hard to cheat. Neil you mentioned democrats in washington. Probably the biggest one, joe biden, was not a fan of this type of proposal. This is what the president had to say about the kind of election changes going on in states like yours, this is from joe biden earlier today, governor. Are you worried that if you dont manage to pass Voting Rights legislation that your party is going to lose seats and possibly lose control of the house and the senate in 2022 . What im worried about is how unamerican this whole initiative is. Its sick. Im convinced well stop this. It is the most pernicious thing this makes jim crow look like jim eagle. This is gigantic what theyre trying to do. Neil what did you think, governor . Well, if he thinks expanding Weekend Voting is unamerican, if he thinks having a photo i. D. Requirement to go vote is unamerican, then perhaps we shouldnt have to go through the Airport Ordeal with all that to get federal benefits. He doesnt realize what is in the final version of the georgia bill. Hes probably been reading things on twitter for people fundraising saying were restricting or limits in georgia. Were securing the vote. I think most people want that whether theyre democrat, republican or somewhere in between. Everybody wants to have confidence in the elections. Thats what were doing in georgia. Were still waiting on the final bill to pass. Certainly the photo i. D. Requirement, you know, allowing flexibility and adding days of Weekend Voting to give hard working georgians an ability to cast their ballot but doing it in a secure way is the most american thing you can do in this country. Neil what do you think, governor, if this was in place in the 2020 president ial election . Would donald trump have won your state or do you know . He insists to this day he did. What do you think . I dont want to go back and revisit the vote count here. The issue is when you look we had a 351 increase on Absentee Ballot by mail. When you add the Signature Check Process that is in georgia, it became overly burdensome for the county election officials. Took forever. Created a lot of doubt. At times im sure it was arbitrary in places because of that volume. This photo i. D. Streamlines neil in your opinion, governor, do you think it cost donald trump the election in georgia . Well, i wouldnt want to speak to that. Im not the secretary state. The election was certified. You know, thats what it it is what it is. Neil the Guy Challenging the Secretary Of State there is saying just that. Im curious what your view is on it. Im not worried about who is running for Secretary Of State. Im looking forward to running for governor on the record that i have. That has been to make it easy to vote and hard to cheat. I believe that this photo i. D. Requirement will further secure Absentee Ballots by mail. But neil, it will streamline the process. You wont have this long, drawn out process neil governor, real quickly. Im jumping in on you. I apologize. You mentioned about running for georgian. The president said you should be primary challenged. How do you feel about that . Are you prepared for that . Neil, as we discussed last time i was on, i was a strong supporter of President Trump. His policies are right on. Were seeing that being undone by joe biden. Go to a place like Mcallen Texas and see people flooding a cross. Human trafficking victims being brought across. Look at what President Trump did to secure the border, what he did going after human trafficking. I worked very hard for him. You know, i supported his legal efforts after the election. I continue to be a big fan of his policies. Neil he doesnt seem to be of yours. Does that bug you . Well see. A lot of the things weve done are good. I dont want to speak for President Trump. Our economy is doing great. Were continuing to be the best state in the country for business. Im keeping my focus on things that i can actually control. Neil got it, governor. Thanks very much. Brian kemp, the governor from the beautiful stated of georgia. The peach state. Thanks. Good seeing you again. Thank you. Neil all right. Going to the south, in florida right now. You know, problems of course with miami beach and the parties that get out of control. A curfew that is supposed to be in effect a little little more than three hours of now. Will they honor this.
