Very glad to be back and on top of these rapidly changing developments. Lets go to Casey Stegall right now with the latest in dallas, texas. That state is handling things and how it feels right now about how the president is handling things. Hey, casey. Hey, neil. Good to see you. Plenty of bed space is open here at the Dallas Convention center. This is the spot where near 1,500 or so migrant teen boys are being housed with the overall capacity of this particular Overflow Facility all the way up here in dallas sitting around 3,000. This is to help take some of the pressure off of the facilities and Holding Centers along the border there like this one in particular in donna, texas. That happens to be the same place where the texas congressman snapped these photos of conditions inside that facility that have gone viral. Showing crowded and unsanitary conditions while he was on a tour of that particular spot. So meantime, the special Assistant To The President and coordinator for the Southwest Border ambassador Roberta Jacobson travelled to mexico yesterday to meet with Government Officials there where she was joined by Senior Director for the western hemisphere, Juan Gonzalez who then went on and traveled to guatemala to meet with his counter parts there essentially working with those countries to try and close the flood gates. The team is finally going to mexico, central america. You had an agreement with those countries. Otherwise, you play defense on the one yard line called the u. S. Mexico border. Thats not good defense. Meantime, the opening of additional Overflow Facilities already in the works. Just in this afternoon from the pentagon, now the Hhs Requesting Space for Juvenile Detention Facilities to be opened at fort bliss and joint base san antonio. Those are both military installations here in texas and also this afternoon the governor of the state, greg abbott, has sent a letter to the white house asking for President Biden to declare a crisis along the southern border. Neil . Thanks, casey. Want to go to peter doocy at the white house. The big question right now seems to be the administrations reluctance to show what is going on in those facilities. What is the latest . The latest is that for the first time this afternoon were getting a sense of how it might work if the federal government decides to let reporters go in to check out the facilities where migrants are being processed and the facilities where theyre being sheltered. On the way to columbus, ohio, jen psaki said this afternoon well get more details soon but access would open up to a pool, a small group of photographers and reporters would go in an Capture Images and take questions on behalf of all of the networks and share that info with the networks. Its the way the white house can keep the footprint small. Right now they want you to take their word for it. Everything in there is okay. Cedric richmond said theyre doing their best to make sure the children are treated in a fair and compassionate manner in an interview on root network. Ted cruz, republican of texas said the feds are denying a chance for him to bring press. We all share that goal to treat them humanely. Unfortunately you cant treat them humanely when theyre packed in like sardines because theres so many of them that the Border Patrol cant process them. Getting an open and free press in to these locked down facilities is one of the rare issues facing this administration where they are really hearing it from members of both parties. Neil . All right. Thank you, peter. Peter doocy. Theyre hearing it from mayor rigs as well. Hes kind enough to join us. You declared a State Of Emergency in your town. How bad is this getting . Effective tonight, at our council meeting, Emergency Order will become official. After yesterdays drop, it really showed that we do not have the resources to handle all of these people being dropped in on us by Border Patrol. We need help. I have requested multiple times for information for assistance. Im not getting it. So the only other alternative i have is to declare an emergency and force peoples hands to provide me with the resources that i need for what the federal government is doing to us. We do know, mayor, that some Administration Officials are making their way down to the border. But you say its got to be big people, even the president himself. Have you heard anything back from the white house on that . No, nothing at all. I dont hear from the administration. I know they talk with the mayors of mesa and phoenix. But as far as the border mayors, i havent heard anything from them. So i doubt any of the others have either. Neil so when you declare an emergency, what does it mean for your community . It forces assistance from our state and county governments that im failing to get right now. To give you an example, last night one of the drops, we were unable to get transportation to take these people to a shelter. We had 16 of them here in our community. The only option that i had was either set up tents in my park and let them stay there for an indefinite period of time or to try to find some way of transport. We ended up, i borrowed two vans because our town insurance carrier wont let us transport them in our town vehicles. So i literally borrowed two vans myself, my wife and two other volunteers and drove them to the Welcome Center in phoenix. Neil so mayor, what happens to the migrant minors that are ushered in to this country and were told will make to it several facilities across the country . Do you ever expect them to go back or are they here . What is your gut telling you . I would suspect theyre here to stay. Neil understood. Mayor, thanks very much. Mayor chris rigs declaring a State Of Emergency. Not hearing much from the white house how to deal with this crisis, whatever you want to call it, the semantics dont matter as much as the real problems do. Were still trying to find out as well on a separate story a tragic story of the colorado shooting in which ten people died at a grocery store. A 21yearold shooter and what he was thinking. So much we dont know. But alicia acuna who has to cover these type of stories in colorado with the latest. Hey, alicia. Hi, neil. The suspect has been booked in the Boulder County jail after being treated for Gunshot Wound at a local hospital. 21yearold ahmad alissa is charged as a chilling and chaotic scene that unfolded at the King Soopers Grocery store. Witnesses told police the suspect shot someone in their vehicle and also shot and killed another before continuing on inside the supermarket where eight more people were killed. According to the police commander, the only Person Injured was the gunman, which means that every other shot that landed killed. Heres video of it as it happened. Theres an active shooter somewhere. Theres an active shooter somewhere. Could it be in the store . He went in the store. Also killed, 61yearold Kevin Mahoney whose Daughter Tweeting im heart broken to announce that my dad, my hero, Kevin Mahoney was killed in the king soopers shooting in boulder. My dad represented all things loved. I so thankful he could walk me down the aisle last summer. Also killed, 25yearold rikki olds, the store manager. This witness did what they could to console a grieving community. Neil alicia, im sorry there. Thanks very much. Youll keep us posted if they find out anything more. Just a mystery. Why that store and why those people. Was it deliberate . So much we dont know. Stay with us. Youre watching your world. Bo. When you have a twoinch lift. When you have Goodyear Duratrac tires. Anyway, thats how you let yourself woah save 40 on hotel and ticket packages right now. Not later, like right now. Neil and you thought the Stimulus Package was big. Adding 50 to that. That have the figure the administration is kicking around for a huge infrastructure but not just infrastructure megaspending projects. One that could total 3 trillion. The dirty details are you plan for that and pay for that and whether youre going to get republican support for that. Tom devin from Real Clear Politics on this. I know theyre kicking things around. I know, tom, as well, this is not all for infrastructure. What is that about . Yeah, it looks like its going to be for infrastructure, but education, some other Green New Deal projects. This is going to be multiple faceted, sweeping spending programs. Theyre talking about 3 trillion. Obviously the big question is, how are we going to pay for that . Neil so how do they . I was listening to janet yellen, jerome powell. They were asked about more stimulus. They both indicated that, you know, this would be a constructive development, no play on words there. But janet yellen held out the probability of additional tax hikes that go beyond the president already telegraphed like raising the top rate, raising corporate taxes. What do we know . Yeah, joe biden is talking about raising the corporate rate, the top bracket of the incomes bracket. Progressives are suggesting that this wont need to be paid for because Interest Rates are scheduled to remain low for the foreseeable future and therefore its okay to just go ahead and pile on more deficits. So to the deficit. So theres a chance that they might push forward with not having this paid for. Republicans arent going for any of that. With the margins the democrats have in the senate, theyre going to need joe manchin obviously to get anything through. Even if they try to move it on reconciliation and in the house, Nancy Pelosis majority is razor thin. So she could potentially lose a couple of progressives not to mention the moderates in the house and do them in. So it would be a heavy lift in both houses of congress to get anything through. Neil you know, always been as you pointed out over the years, bipartisan support for infrastructure work. Republicans might balk at these noninfrastructure items. They will also balk at the tax increases. If this were going to be happen, another lopsided oneparty affair . Absolutely. Again, it would have to go through the senate with Kamala Harris breaking the tie and going through reconciliation. Would have to go through the hours of representatives on a party line vote, which would be very slim. I mean, theres general agreement that we need bridges and roads and to upgrade our airports. Theres buyin from industry on things like raising the gas tax to the federal gas tax, which hasnt been raised since 1993 to fund this stuff. Again, whenever you talk about any tax hike is toing to alienate somebody. Right now the margins are so slim that boy, its just doesnt seem like its possible, neil. Neil all right. Tom, these are big numbers. My senses just dull when i hear trillions on top of trillions. Its money, i guess. Tom bevin from Real Clear Politics. Where were you 40 years ago . Neil its too early to say in miami whether its a Super Spreader event but a problem for that citys mayor who joins us and wonders what is it with kids. After this. Start with all the nonsports dads. Narrow it to the ones whose kids who can catch almost everything. Especially a cold. Meaning, you. Youre the one we made mywalgreens for. Join and get 30 minute pickup at walgreens. Com motorcade arrived. I met the president at the limousine. His person aide. Led them up to the door. For the journalists along the rope line, it was the scene of any given day for the u. S. President. Reagan walked in, looking president ial in a smart crisp suit. The first lady had just gave it to him. For the regular folks in the crowd, it was a new glimpse at the leader of the free world. And then this face, odd, perhaps but intent. The same face from jimmy carters event. John hinkley traveled 1,600 miles from colorado. He was three feet from the president. This time he was armed. Neil those are among the incredible nuggets in a fox Nation Special that looks back at that Assassination Attempt on Ronald Reagan. I cant believe its been almost 40 years. Rick joins us, the white house Advanced Planner for Ronald Reagan. Very good to have you. So much that is coming together now. I had forgotten even about the attempted assassin who had tried the same and been scouting out jimmy carter and had gotten within feet of him, within feet of Ronald Reagan. Just incredible. Good to have you here. Thank you for having me, neil. Neil what are your memories of that and what happened later . We didnt appreciate how close Ronald Reagan had come to losing his life. But what do you remember about it . Well, thats true. I was not aware that he had been wounded. None of us were. I devoted my time and attention once the limousine left with the president to rendering first aid to jim brady. A Washington Police officer was wounded. Policemen were there to take care of him. A secret Service Agent was wounded. Secret Service Personnel were there for him. I was left to care for my well low white house staffer that was gravely wounded to the head. All i had was my Pocket Handkerchief and some given to me by people in the crowd. When we arrived at the hospital and we had a major battle in the ambulance about which hospital to take jim brady too, we pe veiled over the Fire Department and they brought him to George Washington hospital where we saw the president ial limousine. It was only after we went in to the emergency room, jim went into one Treatment Room, i saw dave fisher and they said the president was in a Treatment Room and they didnt know what his condition was. It was the truth set up upon me that the president of the United States was in danger. Neil you never know in retrospect, he walked himself in to the hospital and chanced once indoors. He didnt want people to panic. He would later joke about it going under the knife, telling the doctors i hope youre all republicans. How did he keep that composure . Well, thats just the way he was. Its a true story. I heard him saying that as well as saying to mrs. Reagan, im sorry, honey, i forgot to duck when she arrived. He had a deep one of my former colleagues pointed out yesterday, he had a deep and abiding love for god and the american people. He wanted to put everybodys minds at ease. I think that was truly what he had in mind when he said those things for public consumption. Knowing that they would eventually get out to the public. Neil you know, there was a great wave of sympathy and relief when he overcame that. I remember his Joint Address to congress. Then he said it helped, you know, get a ground swell of sum port him that never wavered. The Tax Legislation would come later. But it didnt rally republicans and democrats that even though they werent fans to chuckle and laugh at his good spirits and the way he approached the whole thing. What do you remember the most when all of that was over, when it was done and he was back and working at the white house and safe. Obviously affected nancy reagan deeply. He argued she turned to astrology more because she was so panicked about what happened to her husband. What do you remember . It had a profound effect on all of us that worked at the white house in terms of number 1 appreciating the fragility of life. Number 2 Secret Service dramatically changed a number of their tactics. Once the president recover, he wanted to get Back On The Road and speaking to the american people. The first two events he did, i was the lead advance representative. Commencement at notre dame and commencement at the Military Academy at westpoint. Those are the first timed that we used magnetometers for the crowd. It was quite an experience, a Learning Curve as to how many people could pass through them. Everybody is used to doing it now when they go to the airport or go to any president ial or most Vice President ial events. But it was a new concept at that time. It made provided a number of new challenges for those of us on the staff side and those on the security side. We worked very closely together on the details of every visit as you know. Neil yeah. Think about it. That all started with that. The heightened sense of urgency for which weve only doubled down in the years since with Terrorist Attacks and the like. Theres Spring Breaks and theres, well, the kind of things that happen in miami beach, florida over spring break there. The crowds that just got Out Of Control and a mayor trying to get back some sense of control. Genuinely concerned about Super Spreader events the likes of which we might not know for a will. Heres the mayor here with me. How are things right now, sir . Thanks for having me. Things are tame right now. How they typically are. A lot of people at the beach and last night was a much easier night. The problem has been that this really isnt spring break the way we might think of spring break from our youth. Theyre College Juniors letting off steam after finals. Its really some of the people that were coming, not all of them, not most of them. But some of them were coming to create problems and chaos. Some had guns. So for us it was an unacceptable situation where we felt like we didnt have the ability to assure safety for guests and residents and had to declare an emergency for some of the days of the week and limit the folks coming over the cause way to the island city. Neil looked like from the beginning people were not honoring that or respecting that or following that and hence what looked like mini riots developing. That part i would imagine has died down. Yeah, i mean any time youre trying to move Tens Of Thousands of people the situation the reason its so hard to michael jackson, think about Tens Of Thousands of people in an open block party. Its a small area of our city. People think, you know, theyre everywhere, everything going on. Riots. Its not the case. Its a small entertainment area, you know, 10 by 5 blocks really. Thats where its going on. It attracts a lot of attention. Add night it was Out Of Control. Neil you know, seems like miami was particularly hit. There were large crowds in florida in almost all locations. Particularly miami. You mentioned at the outset, mayor, this wasnt all just college kids and the like. Can you explain who they were . Well, theyre older. We know from the arrestees where they were from. One of the problems, florida is totally open. People are coming down here. Air fare is very cheap. Theres not a lot of other destinations open like our city. So were getting an enormous crush of people coming here. Among the people coming to love the beaches and the great restaurants i sound like a Chamber Of Commerce ad but among that is people coming here to cause problems. Our license plate readers, which we have on the cause ways, we caught about 100 guns in the group. Usually you get them from cars that have a warrant for them. The drivers have warrants. People shouldnt have a weapon. So it was very much a concern to us. Our City Leadership decided quickly once we saw that, were not going to hope that we get through it or pray. Were going to do something so people feel confident that they can be safe in all parts of our city including this part. Neil you know, florida opened sooner than most states. Texas maybe opened up a little more since. Theres mask requirements but no one arrests you on the spot if youre not wearing one. How would you describe the state now as far as keeping folks protected and balancing it out with keeping the economy going . Well, i think listen, i dont think weve done a great job statewide. Ive had some criticism with the governor. Recently he sent us two dozen florida Highway Patrol to help that. I appreciated that. In terms of the pandemic, i think and i understand. We want to open all of our industries. Its premised on gathering. What we didnt do well enough is really preach to people with one voice that they need to wear a mask and be smart. There was theres so many different voices coming. When a hurricane is coming, when the governor says do something, the mayors say do the same thing. People hear precisely the same thing from everybody and they know to do it. But they were not getting that here and they were getting mixed messages. I think that hurt us. We still are having over 1,000 infections alone in just dade county every day. Today about a dozen people died and about 1,500 will be in the hospital. We still have the pandemic even though weve done a decent job of vaccinating people. Were still in the middle of it. Were on the 15 yard line. But we have you dont spike the ball before you get into the end zone. Neil well see what happens there hopefully. Looks like things have calmed down. Well keep an eye on it. Mayor dan gelber of miami beach. Thanks. We have a lot more coming up including reference to masks the mayor made. Its become a source of great contention for senator rand paul. Back and fourth on that same issue with dr. Fauci. Rand paul is here. Did you know Liberty Mutual customizes your Car Insurance so you only pay for what you need . Just get a quote at libertymutual. Andy and i made a good plan. Find your own andy at schwab. A modern approach to wealth management. Neil all right. Its become a big issue right now. The issue over masks. Dr. Fauci says you should wear them. Rand paul, the senator says dr. Fauci has gone overboard here. Im probably putting a kinder spin on it. They got in each other faces. The senator joins us right now. Senator, your view on the mask thing is when youve said of dr. Fauci, its not about science. Its about submission. What did you mean by that . You know, i think the burden should be on government, if the government is going to tell you cant go anywhere if youre wearing a mask, they should tell you why and present the evidence. So for example, we have about 100 Million People that have gotten the vaccine now, maybe a little shy of that. We have about 30 Million People that have been infected. The government needs to prove and show me a study that says that those people are still transmitting the disease and that theyre a problem to public health. What dr. Fauci said is they might be. He sort of, what if they could spread the disease . That sounds like conjecture. You can look at dr. Fauci what if the spanish flu comes back . Shouldnt we do that every day . Thats fear mongering. Dr. Fauci needs to put up or shut up. Show us the evidence that its a problem after youve been vaccinated or gotten the disease naturally. So far theres no evidence that theres widespread disease happening from people that have already had the disease or already been vaccinated. Neil some cases you cant tell, right . Someone that has been vaccinated might say i dont have to wear a mask now anyway. Others might get anxious. Where as as a doctor yourself, where do you stand on the the use of masks at this stage . Im unequivocally for freedom, for a free society. Each individual would make their own decisions. If you have cancer, you might want to continue to wear a mask for all of the time. Thats the way it was in the past. Those at risk did wear masks and those not at risk didnt wear them. So people would make that decision. The thing is no matter how much of these Nanny Staters want to tell us what to do, you can see it in peoples eyes. I meet them all the time in restaurants. 75 years old. Im two weeks out, finally free and im going to restaurants again. I say good for them. Im going to go to church again. Dr. Fauci doesnt know any of this. Hes Making Conjecture saying what if. What if the South African strain is the vaccine doesnt work against them . What i say to dr. Fauci is show me that the variants are escaping it, show me theres this Mass Contagion going on for people being reinfected or vaccinated. Ill reassess. Ill reassess and consider the data, but so far all hes telling me is his opinion. Really their opinion is look, they had another one of these Vaccine Doctors on television. Oh, its about civility. Civility is not science. For goodness sakes, show us evidence to back up the mandates. Neil so what do you do when you and your wife go to a restaurant . They have a mask policy. You can take them off when you eat . We do what were forced to do to live in dr. Faucis world. Somebody has to contend with him to show him his edits are not based on science. How much people have walked in to a restaurant, put their mask on for ten feet and people not Wearing Masks in an enclosure breathing. You think the ten steps means anything . Its nonscience. Its someone expressing some form of civility but doesnt have anything to do on science. Youre on an airplane. You have a mask. Youre sitting this far from people. And then they say were going to get off six feet apart now. Ive been sitting next to this guy but now were going to use science and he has to use six feet to get off the plane. Its not based on science. Were going to be here forever if we listen to these people. The simple fact is if youre vaccinated, two weeks out, throw your mask away and do what you want. Dr. Fauci is overkill on all of this. Neil you dont like dr. Fauci, do you . No. I think hes a government bureaucrat. This is a guy that spent his life working for government. Hes never met an edit. Hes a popular guy now. I dont know how he gets any work done. Hes on television nonstop. All he wants to do is tell you what you cant do. You ask him for the science and he says what if. He says maybe. One of these variants might not respond. Understand the out the preponderance of evidence shows the vaccines do cover the variants. The rare occasion when someone has gotten sick, theyre asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic. Dr. Fauci and his ilk need to show us, if they show us Mass Hospitalization and mass deaths from people that have been vaccinated or for people that have had the disease again. Until we see that, everything is not consistent with the science. He walks to walk around like a zombie. Theres no study on wearing two masks. Theres studies showing cloth masks dont work. He doesnt say that. The one thing he wanted to do is to help the one Public Service announcement, mono clonal antibodies work. If you get them in a certain window, they can save your life. If you wait too long, you can die. Theres a window of time when they will give you the mono clonal antibodies and a time when youre too sick. Nobody talks about that. Its dr. Fauci wearing three masks. And the mono clonal antibodies an neil got it. I thought you didnt like him because hes an italian american. The former president said youre one of the very good republicans, maybe possible 24 republican candidates. Youre up there with ron desantis, ted cruz, josh hawley, sarah sanders, kristi noem. How do you feel about being on a list like that and would it influence whether you run for president if he runs for president . You know, i dont know. Im not made any decisions about myself personally. What i can say is, we have to figure out how to get more votes. That sounds simple. Donald trump brought a lot of new people to the party. Working class people. People, the salt of the earth. Some people left the party. He did get more votes in 2020 than 2016 but we still have to get more votes. So we have to get we have to take the base that trump built, the party that trump has built and make it even bigger. So whether that is donald trump or somebody new, it has to be we have to bring in more African American voters, more hispanic voters, asian voters. We have to try hard and go after many of these different groups and show them were a welcoming party. I think that theres a huge potential untapped. Particularly among asian americans. Asian americans in general. Be you put them in one group, two out of three vote democrat. Certain pockets from Different Countries were doing better with. As a category, we should do a lot better. Theres a lot of things that we have in common with many of these first, second, Third Generation to our country. One of it has to be that we have to show a more welcoming side to immigrants in general, particularly those coming into our country lawfully. Neil were you surprised mike pence wasnt on that list . Far be it from me to figure out that. I think that if donald trump runs again, its going to be a field that he will at least in the very beginning dominate and who knows what happens. If he doesnt run, it could look like 2016 and i was there in 2016 and it was a melee of 16 to 20 candidates. Neil your decision wouldnt be influenced whether donald trump is in the race or not . Youd make that then . Im up for reelection in 2022. Thats all im concentrating on now and wouldnt think of anything beyond that. For me, its also there needs to be a voice in our party and actually donald trump shared some of these views that i have, that we shouldnt always be at war, we shouldnt be in afghanistan for another decade. We waste so much money. People are ripping us off. Im one of a small handful in the senate and expresses those views that we dont need to always be at war. Donald trump did. That voice needs to be represented. Makes a difference to me whether or not theres anybody on the stage that will be the candidate that is for less war and for Smaller Government and for getting rid of deficits for balanced budgets. So there arent that many voices in that sort of niche within our party and there needs to be. Neil all right. Well see what dr. Fauci thinks of that. Senator, very good seeing you. Thank you. Thank you. Neil senator rand paul. Stay with us. Youre watching your world. This isnt just freight. These arent just shipments. Theyre promises. Big promises. Small promises. Cuddly shaped promises. Each with a time and a place theyve been promised to be. And the people of old dominion never turn away a promise. Or over promise. Or make an empty promise. We keep them. A promise is everything to old dominion, because it means everything to you. If these beautiful idaho potato recipes are just side dishes, then im not a real idaho potato farmer. Intuit quickbooks helps Small Businesses be more successful with payments, payroll, banking and live bookkeeping. Neil interesting with rand paul making that shortlist. Republicans considering running for president. The g. O. P. Stars and potential candidates. What did you make of that and the list, that if the former president opt not to run, its going to be a trump loyalist who does win. What do you think . Most likely somebody who has been in tune with the president and his base. Whether rand paul is on that list or whether anybody is on that list, it depends on what the president ultimately decides to do, the former president ultimately decides to do. From the Career Standpoint of all the candidates are mentioning including rand paul, hes a bit of a spoiler. They cant do anything until theres a definitive decision by former President Trump whether or not hes going to run. They cant run if hes running. Youd be political very difficult for them. If he were to signal early on that hes not going around, then i think the field is wide open. Neil i wonder. I get the sense that a Chris Christie or Something Like that would run regardless. Thinking that lightning wont strike twice. Theres a lot that could happen. Whats the risk in that . It depends on which way the Republican Party is headed. If its headed more towards the trump ethic and rand paul was trying to articulate that and say he is very much a proponent of that or whether the Republican Party says, the leadership of the Republican Party, im not sure who would make this decision and how you would galvanize, decides that the loss of key elements of the traditional Republican Party, the suburban voter, the woman suburban voter, women voters in general, that that was too big of a risk going into 2024 to lose again. Chris christie might be attractive. Hogan, governor of maryland might be attractive. Rand paul, josh hawley, tom cotton, nikki haley. I think they are counting on something else. I think they are counting on the continuation of the sort of new sentiment, the new trump affected sentiment of this new Republican Party. Neil the stimulus measure, we dont have much time but i want to get your thought. Stimulus two. Its a 3 trillion plan thats going to cause some more tax hikes. Where do you think its going . The Stimulus Plan is going to really rev up the economy. Thats what i think that youre seeing reflected in some of the economic numbers coming in for the second half of the year. 5 and above growth. Whether or not that leads to inflation. Powell says, the fed chairman says hes keeping a close eye on whether that affects it. Its also going to do things like expand the Affordable Care act. More people are going to have access to Cheaper Health Insurance which i think will be a kind of key element for the public. Neil all right. Sorry to pounce on you like that. Thank you very much.
