posts years ago. saying they don't reflect her views today. apparently that was not enough. the "new york post" said no sin is ever forgiven in the brave new woke world. she is just the last in a long list of victims. to dr. seuss books and looney toons characters. even former president trump was banned from twitter. christina coleman is following the story. christina. >> hi, yeah, she has apologized over and over again for some of the things she tweeted a decade ago when she was just 17 at the time. but still because of those years-old tweets she will no longer start as editor in chief of teen vogue next week. it sparked outrage from some of teen vogue staffers and readers because of the homophobic and anti-asian tweets she posted a decade ago. the owner of teen vogue was aware of the tweets. the company's officer sent an email saying she was straight forward and transparent about these posts during our interview process and through public apologies years ago. they say she has done remarkable work in journalism elevating the voices of marginalized communities and looking forward to welcoming her into our community. so they go on to say that but mchammond has now resigned. she released a statement yesterday saying in part quote, i became a journalist to help lift up the stories and voices of our most vulnerable communities as a young woman of color. that's part of the reason i was so excited to lead teen vogue team in its next chapter. my past tweets have overshadowed the work i've done to highlight the people and issues that i care about. issues that team vogue has worked tirelessly to share with the world. we have decided to part ways. she also goes on to say she wishes teen vogue the best moving forward and she is rooting for them. she still is staying positive despite the fierce backlash she is facing for tweets she posted at just 17 years old. >> harris: it is so interesting. more people will know her name now than ever. she has a future ahead of her potentially and why taking the high road might be easier than you might think. power panel. guy benson, host of the guy benson show on fox news radio. can't wait to hear what he has to said and richard fowler. gentlemen, the cancel culture. this is a wider situation, though. this is a journalist who has been speaking out for other people in different cultures. richard, your first impression? >> i think what we see here with this story is that vogue made a huge mistake here. the mistake they made is they didn't give her or the staff of teen vogue a chance to actually have a say in how they pick the editor in chief. they made an executive decision. didn't get staff buy-in. as a result she has become a victim of real cancel culture. she sent out these tweets when she was 17 as a high schooler and never really basically what we're saying is black girls don't get a chance to grow up. the famous best selling author wrote about it in a tweet talking just about that same thing that in this story it talked about how black girls aren't given a chance to grow up because you are blamed for a tweet you made when you were 17 years old. >> harris: richard, i have to slow you down. this is not just about people of color, though, right? this is not just about as you say quoting someone else black girls don't get a chance to grow up. did you see the list of people that we told you about that have been canceled? this is part of our culture now. guy. >> this is not a debate about whether those tweets were good tweets. they weren't. they were derogatory, right? she was also a high schooler and teenager when she sent them. has apologized for them. the debate is whether or not someone should be hounded out of a job over a decade old tweet they apologized for. no opportunity really has been given here for grace, for growth. and i think if that's what we want to be as a society, we will be in a miserable place with the mob going from one sort of scalp opportunity to the next. and there is no satisfying them, right? the blood lust to cancel people is real. people feel very indignant and righteous when they do this and it reflects very badly on the health of an organization and the health of a society. unfortunately it is taken deeper root in our society. either we'll stand up to it. 80% of us think it is ridiculous. either we stand up to it and change the rules or cower and live by the new rules. >> harris: no matter what we look like. >> i want to stand up to them. >> harris: no matter what group we're in and what we look like. axios's jonathan swan worked with her and is weighing in. >> i worked closely with her. there is not a racist bone in her body and a real advocate for anti-racism. it is a very stark example of if we can't allow ourselves to forgive people when they did something and said something and tweeted something when they were 17 years old and there is no indication in their current professional lives that they harbor these views, not a single indication, i don't know what we're doing here really. >> harris: richard, a quick response to that and i have a follow up for you. >> sure, absolutely. i think jonathan swan is correct here in saying we have to give people the ability to grow up. to your point earlier i think there is a clear double standard and it exists beyond political lines. look at the governor of virginia. we're not sure if he is one in the black face or clan outfit but the governor of virginia. alexei is not the editor in chief of teen vogue. that's a double standard. it is not about party, though. >> harris: would you not say there are more woke folk in the democrat party than in the republican? do you not think that? >> my point here is this. there are comments made by folks. we can go over numerous examples, marjorie taylor greene sitting in congress after her ridiculous comments and alexei is not at teen vogue. black girls can't grow up is the point i'm making. >> harris: joy reid does a good job on msnbc. let's not forget the lgbt terms. she had the f.b.i. look to see whether her twitter had been hacked and she had said those things in fact. so when you say that this is all about race, that is one black girl who got to grow up. those were not made when she was a teenager, those things that were anti-lgbt. she is still on television. you can make everything about racism i guess if you want, right? you can drill it down to that. but what this really comes down to is who are the deciders and why do they get to decide and who got so woke and richard, if you agree on where we are today with mchammond can be cancel the cancelors? >> i hope you can. when you think about where she was going to work, teen vogue magazine for teen beauty and beauty magazine and it has a history of excluding women of color from the conversations around beauty. let's have a larger conversation of cancel culture and how it affects people of color and we can't look at it in a vacuum and say cancel culture is a problem. >> harris: i want a larger conversation of cancel culture and how it affects americans in general. >> i have never been a subscriber to teen vogue. it may shock you. this goes far beyond this particular situation. what's so frightening to a lot of people it gets to a point in a question you were asking what are the rules, who makes the rules, how are they applied? it would be one thing if they were evenly applied woke cancel rules and it is unhealthy even under those circumstances but it feels like it is ad hoc, capricious and random and whatever people decide to be mad about and make a stink about in certain quarters online. doesn't matter what is in your heart or who you are as a person or what you've done with your life. what matters is, it has been reduced to this one thing and there is immense pressure brought to bear and people cower in fear and wonder if they will be next and stays silent and it keeps happening and no rhyme or reason it to. it has to stop. this is madness. >> that's what i agree with. >> harris: they are afraid of who is going to come for them. you guys are in agreement with that. my next question and nobody can answer this. how is a teen magazine canceling a woman who said something when she was a teen? why not have that as a jump out and ask questions about discussions you want to have. >> a great point. >> great question. >> harris: great to have you on a friday. >> they heard from the administration. you no longer have to remain in mexico. president biden when he was candidate biden in june told them immediately surge the border. when we walked by and saw one family from honduras how long had they been the hike. 22 days. 30 days prior president biden told them to come. >> harris: republicans are out of patience with president biden over his border crisis as homeland security secretary mayorkas is finally going to the southern border today with migrant crossings nearing a two decade high. the biden administration is continuing to deny media access to border facilities. however, fox news got a firsthand look at the crisis. griff jenkins is here to tell us how that happened. he is near the border in el paso, texas, where the secretary is headed today, griff. >> he is indeed harris and i want to tell you where i'm standing right now is just a little bit west of el paso. we're in sunland park, new mexico. i came here since our last report because i wanted to show you this is the area where we were able to ride exclusively along with senator rob portman, ranking member of the homeland security committee as he got a tour of this area where the national border patrol council who were in their union uniforms showing us around. it was a busy, active night. we witnessed more than 25 apprehensions adult single males mostly. we talked to senator portman afterwards what he was seeing and about the visit with mayorkas today. here is what he said about what that will entail. listen. >> we'll be looking at some of the issues including this huge problem with unaccompanied kids coming across the border. those numbers have increase even more dramatically. we have a true crisis in detention facilities. there is not enough room for them and appropriate places for them to be held. >> this area we were walking with portman and the border patrol union vice president and people on the other side apparently didn't come over because we were standing here. when we left we found out later they did indeed come. one of the migrants who was apprehended lived in chicago, deported, picked up last night. i asked him a question and here is what he had to say if he was heeding the white house message. listen to this. >> do you think more will come under the new administration? >> >> 635 apprehensions in the el paso sector in the last 24 hours. up 141%. we reached out to d.h.s. to get a statement or details about the secretary's visit today and they haven't responded. >> harris: i could miss what the guy you were talking to, he was laughing at smiling. it is not going to stop. they will keep coming. griff jenkins. thank you. the white house is still pointing fingers at the trump administration for the border crisis unfolding. former trump administration acting secretary chad wolf is here to react to all of it and then there is this. >> vladimir putin is a hostile foreign actor when we should all be concerned about. now he is literally openly mocking the president of the united states for his own amusement. >> harris: sean hannity's strong words about russian president vladimir putin challenging president biden to a live debate. we'll have a little revolution here next. refiplus from newday usa. it lets you refinance at today's record low rates plus get cash. with mortgage rates low and home values high refiplus can help you lower your rate plus turn your home equity into an average of $50,000. money for security today. money for retirement tomorrow. refiplus from newday usa. if you're 55 and up, t-mobile has plans built just for you. get 2 unlimited lines for only $70. and now get netflix on us with your plan. and this rate is fixed, you'll pay exactly $70 total. this month and every month. plus, switch today and get a free smartphone for each line. the best value and award-winning customer service. only at t-mobile. ♪ limu emu & doug ♪ liberty mutual customizes your car insurance so you only pay for what you need. thank you! hey, hey, no, no limu, no limu! only pay for what you need. ♪ liberty. liberty. liberty. liberty. ♪ it all starts with an invitation... ...to experience lexus. the invitation to lexus sales event. lease the 2021 is 300 for $359 a month for 36 month's, and we'll make you're first month's payment. experience amazing. >> the situation on the ground is certainly challenging in part because we inherited a dismantled system not prepared for processing asylum requests. we're conveying we're less than 60 days in. we are working to repair what has been unprepared and disman tld system that will take time. >> harris: they continue to blame the trump administration and can't clean up the mess. republicans aren't having it. lindsey graham called on mayorkas to change course or jobs. warning the situation at the border will only get worse. i want to bring in chad wolf former acting homeland security secretary under president trump and heritage foundation visiting fellow. chad, good to see you today. first of all, when you hear the words it will only get worse. what does that mean? we'll move on quickly after that. >> absolutely. we're in february. we're in march. the latest numbers were in february and those were over 100,000 illegal apprehensions. what we mean by getting worse, not only getting worse because we know historically the highest number of travel in illegal apprehensions occur in the march, april, may, june and july time frame and know the policies and procedures aren't changing as well. those pull factors and incentives for individuals to come illegally to the country continue to be in place. you will continue to see those high numbers. >> harris: i don't know if you caught reporting -- great reporting from griff jenkins in mexico talking with border patrol down there and gaining the kind of access that the white house won't give any other journalists right now. we have to do it on our own outside the confines they would rather have, i'm sure. the "new york post" put it this way. it's the cover pointing blame at biden for this crisis. biden said he would help and then griff jenkins interviewed someone who just had been apprehended and this is what that man told him. >> do you think more will come under the new administration? >> harris: it's funny and they are never going to stop. chad. >> i think you have two things in play here. not only the messaging that has been a disaster but the policies that they have tore down from the trump administration and the ones they've put in place. from a messaging standpoint their initial messaging and message continues saying you can come, just don't come now. that nuanced message won't resonate with those folks south of the border. you will continue to see this increase. they have also torn down a number of policies that made that border very secure not only stopping construction of the border wall system but title 42, mpp and international agreements. we had a strategy in place to end that catch and release program which we did and the biden administration has torn that down and replaced it again with a failed catch and release strategy. >> harris: you know, just quickly i want to pause and ask about national security issues now. when you hear there are some magnet turned on, never stop coming and a big smile you talk about a preach in national sovereignty by definition and you don't want the media to show the world it's happening. it feels like we're in a different country. where are we in national security with this issue? >> what we always said over the last four years is border security is national security. it needed to be treated that way. we did that. i think you have a different approach now. instead of securing the border, holding people accountable that break the law, unfortunately this administration is treating this crisis as though it is a capacity issue. they are surging resources to the border simply to process more people. the goal should actually be to stop individuals that are trying to get into the country illegally first and then provide them a pathway to claim asylum if they want to. instead it's the opposite which is going on today. as far as national security we saw earlier reporting a couple of days ago about known or suspected terrorists within this flow. any time you have a surge of individuals to that border you have to be concerned about criminals and potential terrorists or known or suspected terrorists or also another entity which we call special interest aliens. those individuals that have travel patterns like terrorists but perhaps are not on the list. there are a number of things going on. the most concerning thing is they're having to pull border patrol agents off the line to care for these thousands of individuals that they have in their stations. instead they need to be manning the line in that national security mission. >> harris: i want to get to this. dhs secretary mayorkas on migrants released and some have covid-19. let's watch. >> there were times earlier when individuals were apprehended and we sought to expel them and we were unable to expel them and we were compelled to release them and didn't have the opportunity to test them. we have addressed that situation. >> harris: excuses, what was that? what really are we facing here? >> again, i think the american people and viewers need to understand this is a crisis that they created. he is talking about not using authorities that they have. title 42 authorities not only with uacs but families and not being able to remove them quickly. so they have to release them. they are choosing to do that. they are expelling or removing folks back to mexico or central america in lower numbers every single month. instead they're releasing them into the community and as you indicated they can't verify whether or not they have been covid tested. he talked about a policy of making sure they are tested. a policy and a goal is very different than insuring that 100% of those that are being released are being tested, are being negative or being quarantined. there is daylight between all of that. >> harris: no doubt. i talked with plenty of leadership in cities along the border saying it's our budgets that will have to pay for the testing. it is all of them who have to deal with the people who are positive. they can't unleash them. you know, unleash the virus, i would say. real quickly senator lindsey graham called for mayorkas to step aside and do a different job. if you can't do this one the way it needs to be done move on. is he right or wrong? >> we could be getting to that point. i think the missteps the biden administration and d.h.s. has had since inauguration date they have miscalculated this enormously and taken a number of steps without understanding the consequences and ramifications. that's unfortunate because we told them. we told them during transition. we told them this is what would happen if you took away mpp and all these things. these are the types of numbers. this is the strain it would put on the system not only border patrol but h.h.s. they had all the facts. i really do think there needs to be an understanding and perhaps and investigation of why weren't they more prepared? we're now eight weeks in. why weren't they more prepared to address this surge than they are today? they had the facts, they simply didn't do it. is there another goal here? what is going on at the department? >> harris: you had the job. you are saying the man who has it now we're getting close to the point where senator graham might
