two women leaders, and their silence is deafening. it's an important conversation to have. and, joey, what's on tap? >> well, the grammy awards are tonight the, but some of music's biggest stars are setting it out. we'll tell you why. >> all right. thanks, joey. first, the president now turning to fee that to address -- fema to address the growing crisis at our southern border as house republicans get ready to travel to texas tomorrow to have a look for themselves. the biden administration enlisting the federal disaster agency to help manage the dramatic spike in unaccompanied migrant children entering our country. u.s. border agents detained more than 100,000 migrants in february alone, leading to overcrowding at government-run housing facilities. the administration referring to this dire situation as a challenge but stopping short of calling it a crisis, and that is not sitting well with republicans. >> it is a crisis. when a similar surge happened a few years ago, president obama himself called it a humanitarian crisis. >> it's the biden open border policies that are inviting even more illegal immigration and actually have created this humanitarian crisis. >> and our agency that's called the federal emergency management somehow doesn't have the word emergency when it's used for a crisis. by definition, if you call in fema, you have an emergency which is another name for crisis. >> so the question today is how important are words? white house press secretary jen psaki continues to push back on reporters' questions about this saying that labels don't matter. now they're sending in fema which clearly indicate cans that the response -- indicates that the response is elevating here. listen to what senator bill cassidy said today on "fox news sunday" about the fema move. >> the fact they're sending fema tells us that the 170% they anticipate growing to 350% or even a higher number. they're sending fema as reinforcements not for today, not for tomorrow, but for three weeks from now. and what is clear, there can be no equivocation when sending a message to people who are thinking of joining a caravan. it has to be our border is closed. you can't say in spanish one thing and in english another, one for the consumption of those in central america and the other for domestic consumption. it has to be the same message. they're not doing that. >> so, charlie, i want you to hit this off the bat here for us. i mean, how important are words, and what do you think is happening? what does this tell us about what's happening inside the white houses? >> well, you know -- [inaudible conversations] words are very, very important in terms of sending a message to south and central america about the fact that the border is supposed to be closed. and so much of the problem is a result of the fact that the biden administration sent these signals that clearly indicated and the message that a lot of -- that the border is open, and they want to come and take advantage of that. but, you know, in terms of what word we apply to it, i do think it's kind of ridiculous that the white house is spending so much time trying to bat down the idea that it's not a crisis. it is a crisis. it's a border and a humanitarian crisis. when you have this kind of movement at the border where people are coming, you wind up with human smuggling, you wind up with child abduction, far worse in terms of what happens to those children, what happens to women as they're trying to get to the border. it's some of the worst of humanity, the people who are getting paid thousands and sometimes $8,000 per person to bring people, to get people across the border. and these are the same cartels that also run drugs across the border. so any way you look at it, it is clearly a humanitarian crisis. the other thing that i think is just sort of amazing about it, why the joe biden administration chose -- obviously, this is a problem that has been with us for a long time, politicians all over the place, in particular congress' inability to get a grip on it. donald trump did a lot to bring some sanity to the border. why doesn't biden, in the first 50 days of his administration, why did he decide to undo all the things that were working and create this problem, create this nightmare for him, i'll never understand that. >> yeah. essentially wiping the slate clean and starting all over again which is pretty much what every administration seemed to do over and over again. very frustrating for a lot of people. lisa, i want to put up this graphic because i think the numbers are wild for the folks at home to take a look at this, how many unaccompanied minerses are coming across the border -- minors are coming across the border here. look at these numbers. reuters is now reporting on these wristbands, right? red, blue, green-colored wristbands. u.s. customs and border protection says, you know, this is basically indicating that there are smuggling operations, organizations underway, and this is how they're smuggling people in. this is clear evidence of that. what are you most concerned about, lisa? >> i'm concerned that the entire asylum process is broken, and it's being exploited. i mean, we see this time and time again. all you have to do is look at the numbers. you have about 90% of the asylum seekers that come to the united states pass their initial interview at the southern border, and when you look at the courts, about 88-90 of the cases are rejected because they don't show up to court or they don't have a case which is why the biden administration should reinstate some of the very successful programs from the trump administration, things that disincentivized central americans to try to make this case and exploit our system. things like the remain in mexico policy. and what that did was force central americans to stay in mexico as opposed to coming to the united states. so if they weren't really trying to come here for honest reasons, for actually truly seeking asylum, a lot of them decided to not even make the trip because they didn't want to have to remain in mexico. they wanted to come to the united states and to get lost in the sea of illegal immigrants who are living here. secondly, the agreement with the northern triangle countries, that forced these asylum seekers to first apply in northern triangle countries before coming to the united states to apply here. so these are things that the biden administration can do, two easy solutions, and then there's a variety the of loopholes that congress could fix. everyone knows it, everyone knows it's broken. they know what to do, but they won't take action. >> and, joey, you know, we've got this gop delegation now on the move, they're heading to the border. what do you hope comes out of that, what do you hope they see, bring back? >> well, first of all, sorry. i guess charlie sounds like joey today -- [laughter] >> it's okay. >> it happens to all of us, joey. [laughter] >> you're, we heard this -- you know, we heard this president campaign on unity, on bringing, i guess, this political divide together to say i guess they believe only started with president trump. so now we have republicans going to the border, and my question is what does it matter? what will nancy pelosi have to hear from kevin mccarthy and other republicans that she hasn't already decided she doesn't want to hear, you know? what is it they can say when they go down there, or are they simply going to say, listen, we've seen it with our own eyes, and when we vote against it, it's to let the constituents know. i hope that something comes out of congress that puppets this administration to the task of actually make an immigration policy that people can live under. you know, if this is -- if we want people to flood in from the southern border, then let's put it in legislation, open the borders up and make that what our country does. i don't think that's what the american people want. it's not what congress has said it wants, and i think it's pretty wrong for an administration to turn its back on what the american people have said. >> and just really quick, wrapping up the topic, charlie, obviously, a big week ahead. what do you think the headlines are going to come out of this? >> well, sadly, i don't think that certainly the crisis is not going to be over, and, you know, in a week. and, of course, let's not forget we're also still suffering under this pandemic, and the ability to detect people at the border -- you know, you can't go to your kids' little league game today without getting your temperature taken. and yet we have these migrants coming across the border. yeah, some of them get tested, but then they're just released into the population under a promise that they'll return for a court date that they often frequently don't. >> i am interested about this delegation and what happens and what they gather and try and expose down there. lisa, any thoughts on the gop delegation? >> yeah. i mean, they should continue to bring attention to it because we're going to have an administration that's trying to run from the crisis that they created, so republicans should keep beating the drum, keep drawing attention to it. and, again, there are easy fixes that congress can make. they know it. people have been sounding the alarm for a long time now, and congress refuses to do it, and now we have an administration that refuses to take action that could help solve or at least deter what we're seeing along the southern border. >> all right, thanks, guys. coming up, governor andrew cuomo says he will not resign despite seven women now accusing him of sexual misconduct or harassment. and while some in the party are calling for him to step down, house speaker nancy pelosi and vice president kamala harris are refusing to take a stand. >> to do what this will do in terms of generational impact, lifting half of america's children out of poverty? it's a big deal. so thank you. >> he may decide and, hopefully, this result will be soon. and what i'm saying is the governor should look inside his heart. he loves new york, to see if he can govern effectively. >> hmm. look inside his heart. welcome back to "the big sunday show." that's the speaker of the house, nancy pelosi, stopping short of calling on new york governor andrew cuomo to resign. on top of the covid nursing home scandal, the embattled democrat is facing allegations of sexual harassment from seven women, all of which he denies. as top democrats call on cuomo to step down, vice president kamala harris remains silent. here's judge jeanine pirro from last night. >> a real role model, ain't she? but remember, a woman who couldn't get 1% of sport in her party -- support in her party's primary, a woman who can't even answer a question about whether or not andrew cuomo should resign after seven women accused him of sexual harassment and assault. what is this woman afraid of? >> aisha, so i want to start with you. what sort of message does it send to cuomo's accusers when you have the two top female democrats in charge who were so vocal during the kavanaugh hearings to refuse to call on him to resign? >> yeah, i was actually going to bring that up exactly because i think everyone is watching and waiting for the vice president to respond to this directly through her own words, not through the white house press secretary, jen psaki. and it's interesting, right, it doesn't just impact new yorkers who are wanting to know what she thinks, but also especially the victims, the victims, the alleged victims, the women. every single word impacts them as well. one thing i want to bring up is i am surprised that no reporter yet has asked the governor the obvious of question, it has not come up yet, i'm waiting for it, will he take a lie detector test. i bring that up because that is exactly what he asked then-supreme court justice nominee brett kavanaugh to do when he was facing his own accusations. so i'm waiting for someone to bring that up. and let me just remind everyone for context as to what is happening in new york state, this isn't just about the allegations. there is a very important state budget that has to be passed in less than two weeks now. everyone knows, lisa, you know new york is at the brink. this is a make it or break it situation. and that's why you have some lawmakers that are now coming out and saying perhaps we impeach just to move him aside temporarily so that we can get this budget passed, and then we wait and see what the a.g. says. but that's neither here nor there, that's what's happening here in the state of new york. but your right -- you're right, i think especially for the women that have been brave enough to come forward with these allegations, they're anticipating, they're watching very closely at to what the vice president has to say. >> yeah. before those taxes get even higher there in new york. joey, she makes a good point. there's all these different political calculations at play here. the way i look at it, there's a lot of progressive democrats that have been the most zoningal call -- vocal calling on him to resign. do you think they want him out of the way? >> i think they wouldn't pick a more conservative, that's for sure. as i get older, i have epiphanies, right? i learn things that are just common. and one of the things i've learned is partisan politics and hypocrisy are synonyms. they mean the same thing. so what we really need to happen here is if one of these seven accusers, if this is an eighth accuser that accuses this man of maybe getting drunk when he was 15 or 16 years old and doing something then, then kamala harris will care. and then nancy pelosi will care. because, apparently, that's the standard that was sent with brett kavanaugh. unfortunately, all of these accusers are racist. and for some reason that means it doesn't matter as much as them or that it's easier to excuse. at the end of the day, they were calling for brett kavanaugh's career to be completely over, but they can't muster the courage and say andrew cuomo, innocent or guilty, may just be in the way at this point for a state that's hurting to heal itself and figure itself out. he needs to resign because new york needs to move on. >> well, charlie, one thing about kamala harris that i will never forget, she is no incredibly calculating. you remember during the campaign she basically said that joe biden was a racist, that she believed -- [laughter] women were accusing him of various things, and then when she was asked by stephen colbert about it, i mean, this woman is pretty terrifying, and her proximity as vice president to that president of the united states terrifies me. what about you? >> yeah. well, nobody's ever gone broke being too cynical about people's motives, motivations in washington. it is truly, truly incredible. and that is, of course, the problem. you know, people like nancy pelosi and vice president harris are, you know, they have been so vocal in the past that it is, as you point out, a deafening silence in this particular case. and i have to say, you know, i have a great reservation about doing this trial by media stuff with anybody on any accusations. i get very, very nervous about that because the media gets so many things wrong. but you're exactly right, it's the larger issue of the hypocrisy. and whether it's covid or it's the lockdowns or it's the border crisis or it's andrew cuomo, everything gets squeezed through the meat grinder of politics in washington. and it is so bad for the republic. and it's so bad for our politics. and that's the root source of why i think that it's so hard to come together and sort of a arrive at common sense solutions to clear an obvious -- to clear and obvious problems because so many people are so quick to try to take everything no matter how bad the crisis is and turn it into some sort of political cudgel that they can beat up the other person with or win political points off of. >> and, charlie, we share that cynical outlook. [laughter] we're not losing to china, we lost. the returns just haven't all come in yet. >> so, bill maher is so funny, at least in his own mind. lisa, to you first. you know, china has been a problem for a long time. joe biden has been part of washington for 50 years. are you kind of surprised, i was surprised in the first week of the administration to hear the administration talk about how what they needed in temples of dealing with chai -- in terms of dealing with china was strategic patience which means they have no idea what to do. should joe biden be maybe a little bit more on his fastball when it comes to china of after 50 years in washington? >> well, one would think, but that's the problem. washington, d.c. is broken, and he's been part of a broken system and has contributed to it for decades now. how can this administration hold china accountable when president biden's own son owes his livelihood to the communist party of china? how can joe biden hold china accountable when he potentially was trying to cash in on those deals as well? and bill maher cannot sit there as he does and decry cancel culture and then say, basically, that we should be more like china. i have concerns and he should too that we're becoming too much like china, too much like a totalitarian regime when you look at the authoritarian the nature of government over the past few years dictating to americans if they could open their own businesses, if they can go to church, if they can see their families, and on top of it, d.c.'s basically occupied by the military right now, national guardsmen vetted by the biden administration for their political beliefs. and you have the military on twitter attacking our own tucker carlton. we should be concerned we are becoming too much like a totalitarian regime. >> amen. or awoman. right on. [laughter] totally agree. does bill maher kind of have a point though? do we not spend -- you know, this is not a reflection of the rest of the country, i don't think, but when you look at the debates that we have in washington and the people things that -- and the things that get people hung up in washington, do we not get kind of mired down in some really ridiculous argumentsesome. >> well, isn't that just part of american life? [laughter] there's got to be something to talk about on social media, right? every day i'm thinking about canceling my twitter account. look, i think everyone around the world has been looking to china to take over the world for decades now. for some context though, to kind of push back on bill maher a little bit, china's gdp is still lower than america's gdp, and the u.s., i believe, last year it was or 2019 said china is manipulating its own currency to continue to have an edge, a competitive edge. and then you look at what's happening in india and pakistan with china's influence there, not a lot of people are paying attention to what's happening in that region. look, they're playing the long game, right? they think about what their plans are 50 years ahead. the u.s. doesn't do that. we play the short game. we play for the next 4, 8, 10 years, and that's because we have free and fair elections and we have a change in administration. and just a slight note as well just to get in there, maybe this is old school of me, but don't forget to pay attention to the navy too. china now has the largest navy in the world. maybe not the best, maybe ours is better. but definitely the largest. and i believe the saying goes whoever rules the waves rules the seas rules the world. >> good points. >> it's, yeah, it's truly terrifying. you know, one of the things that bill maher talked about in comparing china to the u.s. is that china has 40,000 miles of high-speed rail transit, and the u.s. has none. joey or when you get up in the morning, are youd sad about not having high-speed travel in america? >> i'm not going to rely on public transportation anytime soon. [laughter] i think bill maher's half right in the sense that we are not silly, but we are allowing ourselves to be distracted by silly things while china is not. i don't think anyone in china is having a big debate over how genuine meghan markle is, but we are. i don't know if anyone in china is allowing dr. seuss to become so controversial that it -- [laughter] has to be banned, but we are. and lisa brought up a great point, we have official marine twitter accounts, you know, disputing tucker carlson on a long diatribe. so we just take a big risk when we take power, and we have power in this country, so we as citizens need to be serious. that's the problem. >> joey, have you ever been on the subway? i love the subway. [laughter] >> look, guys, i've been talking about this. i'm so glad this topic is being talked about because i've been literally saying this all week long. i love oprah. i love oprah. i look up to her. i think she's a great interviewer. but to think that this was a journalistic interview is completely false. first of all, there was a massive conflict of interest, right? these two, they're neighbors, they're friends, she was invited to their wedding. it's not a journalistic interview for that very reason. and then, two, there was no news organization that was overseeing this interview. of this -- this was done by haro productions, oprah winfrey's production company. she was paid for this interview. she'd been pursuing it for quite some time, long before any of these accusations even would arise. so i think we need to break it down, first and foremost, what it actually means. it's not a journalistic interview. it was meant for entertainment, right? the same thing as turning on netflix. that's why people were so interested in it, it's actually just adding on to the tabloid fodder which is exactly what harry and meghan fight back against. that's all it was. of that's my take. >> it's not a bad take. my take is we simply care too much about what the royal family's up to, but maybe i'm in the minority here. lisa, we've got two cohosts of a show that apparently can't even get along for five minutes. sharon osborn is married -- sharon osbourne is married to a guy who used to bite the head off bats, now we're arguing over whether she's racist because her friend doesn't like meghan markle. is this racism run amok? >> no, i think it's about speech, and free speech is dying in america right now. it's not cancel culture, it's control culture. the problem we're facing as a society is leftists control all major institutions in the country. they control big option corporations -- big corporations, big tech, the federal government, education, and with all of that power, they are the ones who are establishing norms, establishing what acceptable thought process is in america, what acceptable speech in america, what is acceptable beliefs in america, and they control the flow of information to the rest of the country as well. and what happens is if you don't submit to that leftist belief, if you don't submit to progressivism, then you face books being banned, you face losing contracts, you face cancellation, you face being fired, you face naming and shaming. you face the destruction of your life. and what it all has is a really chilling effect on speech in america right now. and i wish that the rest of the country and so many people would wake up and realize what's going on because this is going nowhere good fast. and it's time for responsible people to step up and say, you know, enough with all of this. >> you know, charlie, i guess they're going to do an internal review and see, i guess, what actionable consequence could come from this. these are two cohosts that just didn't get along. >> yeah. you would hope that maybe people would learn to behave better, but i don't think that's -- i'm not going to hold out a whole lot of hope for that. but, you know, i think, lisa, you're right about this. there, it is such an attack on free speech. but it's also more than just that. of it's also a terrible way to address problems. and, you know, the worst way to address a race problem is to use it as a weapon against people that you disagree with. of you know, it's a good thing that being called a racist in this country is a bad thing. people don't like that. they don't like racists. they don't want to be racist. and anybody who's ever listened to sharon osbourne or listen to ozzy osbourne, and if you don't, i can recommend you should listen to everything he ever wrote or played, he's a genius, anybody that's ever listened to them knows they're the farthest you can be from being racist. it's absurd. and to use that as a weapon in order to shut people up, it's an attack on them, but it's also just a terrible way to address, you know, to have a conversation. that makes everybody, hopefully, better on the back end of it. >> yeah, probably shouldn't, you probably shouldn't live like him because he's lived a pretty hard life. [laughter] >> i'm shocked. shocked to find out that there's corruption -- >> i knew you would be. >> that's -- yeah. but, you know, i have to tell you, i feel like a cutting edge trend setter here because i've not been watching the grammyss for my entire life. [laughter] and i haven't9 been watching the oscars or the whatevers, the other things, i don't watch any of it. and, by the way, i don't know what the weekend is. the weekend is when i don't work -- >> stop it, charlie. [laughter] >> the only thing i know about these shows i know that they're usually kind of in the springtime because when i'm not watching them and i just hear noise about them, i'm outside and i'm enjoying the nicer weather. and so like i said, i feel like, you know, i feel like, you know, hollywood is finally, hollywood is taking a cue from me and following my lead. [laughter] >> i used to watch, well, joey, i used to watch some of this stuff until it became all political. we can't have nice things anymore. everything's made to be political, and everyone's like why we so divided? they were never motivated by awards and racked up grammys in spite of it. radio djs don't pick the songs that they play anymore. they're all thought of by one or two companies, and they program, is what they call it, program our music to get us to go shopping and do certain things. it's all part of the control and trying to get ahold of our dollars. independent music is where it is. i'm in the beautiful city of nashville right now, and i'm going to go listen to somebody no one's ever heard of tonight, i hope, and be entertained for once. >> who is it?
