Covid isnt crushing the economy, government crushed the economy. Those of you who dont know, south dakota is the only state in america that never ordered a single business or church to close. Welcome, everybody. So good seeing you guys all across the country just like america and our audience members. Ive got to ask you guys, im going to go to sean first. Cpac, so much energy, such a clear message from the movement. A lot of talk about the civil war within the republican party. Ill pose this to you, it seems like the civil war is amongst the leaders, not the people. Seems like theres a concise message. What to you say, sean . I think youre absolutely right. And last time i was at cpac, i was with Andrew Breitbart a long, long time ago. But youre right, i think we have a few leaders in the house and the senate that dont like President Trump, but if youre at cpac or if youre in wisconsin, anywhere, you know that conservatives, republicans and the Conservative Movement, their heart are with President Trump, they love him. Donald trump is people power. You had technology and media and intelligence, they all canceled donald trump, but he has so much sway and power with the American People because all of these grassroots folks around the country love him and love the America First ideology that he brought to the presidency, looking out for them and not for big Corporate America and their financial interests. Yeah. Thats absolutely correct. Gillian, you are on the Ground Reporting everywhere, and when i talk to the people that are here, they talk about the issues. And there was this narrative in the past election about tone, right . Obviously, between the different candidates and between joe biden and President Trump, tone very different. But what i hear from people here on the ground, theyre saying, well, a lot of these Policy Choices have hurt us. The energy policy, the border policy, and theyre frustrated with that. What do you hear . Lawrence, i will say ive now watched more of these speeches on tv over the last few days, so i have a really good sense of what the key players up on the big stage are saying, not as good a sense of what folks on the ground are saying which im going to ask you about in just a second. My big takeaway so far is that there is a return to the sort of core, principled conservative message from everybody from senator mike lee to secretary pompeo, even ted cruz. You know, he made that gesture and that exclamation about freedom that nows has gone viral on social media, but all of these people are saying its time that we remember sort of what brought us together in the first place which is being against big government, big against a government that becomes too powerful. And were seeing in the wake of all the upset the partys been through over the last couple of years a return to these kind of grounding principles. Thats the big message, i think, more than the socalled Cult Of Personality surrounding President Trump. This is what were seeing here at cpac. The other big messaging im really hearing coming out of folks on the stages is that its no longer up to them about conservatives versus liberals, its about conservatives versus the left and big tech. The message were hearing over and over and over again, is that the left is teaming up with social media and big tech to censor conservatives, to put the brakes on what different people in america are allowed to say. Thats the other big message im taking away are from this. If i could throw a quick question back at you, lawrence, im really interested to know if youre when youre talking to folks there, the attendees . Not the big wigs, the people that are there to support the party right. Gillian are there views reflected on the stage for the most part . Lawrence they are, and the people that would have typically reflected the views that arent with them didnt get invited to cpac, and that was very clear based on the agenda. The people that are on the stage are what they consider their conservative heroes, the people not so much elected officials, although there were some that were a part of the Freedom Caucus and have been really out front fighting for that America First agenda, but the social media stars, the pundits that fight for that agenda, theyre here too. And even people like our own dan bonn geo, really bongino, really give that rallying cry. Interesting, the amount of young conservative leaders that have been here on the ground, you know, this is not the party and movement of just old white men anymore. These are diverse voices, these are former democrats that decided to be republicans in the trump era. They call themselves [inaudible] so theres diversity in the way that people look, but also in ideology as well. But i have to get lisa in here because, you know, we could talk about the speakers thatd be nice. [laughter] but, you know, everybodys expecting one person, the big man, donald trump, who they call the boss. What do you anticipate from his speech tomorrow . Lisa well, look, i think theres a lot of fodder for him. I mean, the first few weeks of the Biden Administration has been absolutely terrible. What has he done . Hes prioritized illegal immigration, hes killed jobs for Hard Working Americans with the stroke of a pen. Were talking about those Keystone Pipeline jobs. As well as job building, you know, the wall along the southern border. So i think theres a lot of opportunity for President Trump to take biden to task. But look, lets all be honest, the republican partys still the party of donald trump. The grassroots are with donald trump, and theyre at odds with the establishment leadership in washington, d. C. And we saw that play out with people like liz are cheney voting Liz Cheney Voting to impeach donald trump. And then what did we see . We saw the wyoming gop vote to accept sure her and call for her resignation. Censure. I predict a republican landslide and, two, a lot of republican incumbents are going blue. But thats okay because we saw that play out in the 2010 midterm elections. A lot of incumbents lost, and republicans picked up 63 seats. So, you know, i hope if im right we can play this, you know, after the midterm election, and then if im wrong, we can just never speak of it again. Lawrence sean, ive got to bring you in on that because theres some real info that lisas given, because i hear that on the ground too. This formation of another modernday tea party movement, right . And we awe this when the republicans didnt do what the people wanted. These were small businesses, moms and dads that were upset with government just like a lot of these folks that are here that are upset with how the pandemic has played out and government shutting down. They want a new tea party movement, and theyre going to target republicans. What do you think . Sean right [audio difficulty] the tea partys going to be activated by people on the ground. One of the things i picked up at cpac was how sick people are are of being canceled. And i think the message and undertone from this event is if youre canceled, republicans and conservatives, they actually have to stand up and stand together. So if one of your conservative brothers or sisters is canceled, dont walk away. Actually stand up and defend them. And if you do stand together as a movement against this liberal woke mob, what youll recognize is that you are actually in the majority, and the woke mob is in the minority. And thats the only way you can beat them, is standing together and not leaving one person to stand by themselves and let the woke mob eat them up. Lawrence well, there is a unified key movement when it comes Conservative Movement when it comes to the peep here. So much energy. Look what happened this morning at two a. M. Nancy pelosi put about a 2 trillion bill in. There was a vote on the floor the, she put a tunnel in Silicon Valley that has nothing to do with covid into the bill. Back to work, back to school, back to health, pelosi wants to put more tunnels, more waste, and the democrats voted for it. Gillian lisa, im going to come to you first. If it was your bill, right, and you had to choose one line item in it that you could pull out no questions asked, what would you choose . Well, i would focus on the money directed towards people who need it who have been without a job because of liberal policies. And as kristi noem had said at cpac, its not coronavirus that shut down the economy in so many states and cities, its democrats, its government. Government is what shut down economies that denied people the ability to open up shop, to earn a living for themselves. So now were stuck in this mess. And what do democrats do . When you have a terrible bill you know this from covering d. C when the vote is at two a. M. And you cannot get a single republican, not even a moderate, to vote for it. And i think a lot of americans are saying, okay, youve got Health Care Subsidies for illegal immigrants, nancy pelosi gets this 100 billion tunnel outside of Silicon Valley, blue state who created the mess were in with her lockdown policies are getting bailed out. And whats in it for the American People . This has been the m. O. Of democrats the entire time with the coronavirus because nancy pelosi admitted that she denied the American People relief just to stick it to President Trump before the election. Gillian i mean, well said. But you still didnt exercise your magical power that the i gave you. [laughter] if you could choose one thing lisa i dont know if i heard you correctly. Wait a minute, i thought [inaudible] gillian what would you pull out . Lisa oh, my god, i mean, everything. Its a garbage bill which is why not a single republican you know what . Ill get rid of Nancy Pelosis stupid. Tunnel because shes terrible and she doesnt deserve it. So your tunnel, gone, pelosi. Thats what i would do. [laughter] Gillian Lawrence . Lisa also, thats a fun game. Gillian im going to ask everybody if we have time. Lawrence, one of the ideas among republicans here thats been circulating, i think pat toomey really led the charge, is that the problem with this bill is not so much what is in it, but because these kinds of line incomes that are political favors to powerful politicians leading the way is an effort to legislation that comes in and out of capitol hill. But the real problem is the Stimulus Payments are not necessarily going to americans who have lost wages or jobs or businesses or homes or loved ones during the pandemic, its going out under these Blanket Terms without salaries which doesnt include anything having to do with a familys gross income or businesses. So the problem here is making the legislation essentially more targeted. This wasnt done in the first round of stimulus, its not being done now. Congress has had nine months to try to figure out a way to do it. Do you agree with that . Lawrence lawrence well, theres some truth to it, you know . This bill is full of pork. Im a texan, i love pork, but not this type of pork. [laughter] theres a lot of pet projects and going to states that were already in debt, and so that frustrates a lot of americans because it seems like in washington they literally dont get it. But you know what i hear on the ground here at cpac . They talk about just open up the country. I mean, obviously, they cant take care of the American People appropriately. Give them a shot. And theres this theme of americas above when it comes to desantis. They feel vindicated, the conservatives that are here today, because there was a lot of talk about the states not being so good, that that cuomo was the gold standard. And now as we get more and more revelations on how he managed this pandemic at nursing hopes and then he got folks that didnt get the proper ppe, sent ventilators back, didnt use the ship, and what theyre saying is look at florida as a model for the country and let people decide their own destiny. Only they can do that and, look, floridas come back. So if you just want to look at it from a numbers standpoint and a success story, maybe cuomo wasnt really the gold standard. Maybe desantis is. Gillian and what would you take out of this bill if you could choose anything . One thing, anything in the entire bill to make it a little better . Ill take away all the state funding. Gotta go. Gillian thats billions right there. All right. Lawrence thats exactly right. Gillian under this plan, sean, to highlight my point, in this bill a 60yearold couple with two kids making 200k a year would receive 12 grand under the legislation as it now stands. Is that what we need . Sean sean look, i think the one side of the bill, gillian, people actually like. They want money to flow during a pan pandemic. I dont agree with it as a conservative, but people want to see the 1400 in individual checks, they want to see money going to families with kids, they want to see money go to vaccine distribution. Those are all the positive polling things that come out of this bill. What they dont like, however, is they dont want social justice farming, they dont want to see money go to Planned Parenthood which, by the way, that is the one issue i would pull out. I dont think conservatives should have to fund the killing of babies in a Stimulus Bill. I think the last point lisa made in the last segment, what happens in the next election . I can speak cheerily to this, because in 2009 i ran against the author of the Stimulus Bill. He was a democrat who was in office for 42 years. I was a prosecutor, ran against him. When he passed the Stimulus Bill in 09, it was very, very popular. However, a year later the American People found out what was in it, they knew that the economy was actually growing at the time they passed the bill, and it was wasteful spending. Again, it was the Money Grenade that went off and just shot cash everywhere. And we picked up 63 seats. Republicans picked up 63 seats in the house in 2010. To lisas point, that same thing is going to happen in this next election because americans are going to hate when they find out what is in this bill. Ing. Gillian folks, weve got to leave it there, but coming up next, they got it wrong, we got it right. Thats Governor Ron Desantis praising his state of florida as an Oasis Of Freedom during the pandemic, thinks florida can pave the way for other states. Is he right . Well debate next. Saying its fine by me if you never leave and we can live like this forever, its fine by me lisa welcome back to the big saturday show. 9 so florida is paving the way for america to survive the pandemic as states like new york and california struggle even after extreme lockdowns. Schools are open here, the economy is rising, and covid19 cases are dropping in the sunshine state. Quite a different story in states like new york and california where businesses are feeling the squeeze from strict lockdowns and schools that remain closed. Most california counties nonessential businesses are still shut down, and Indoor Dining is predominantly not i i not allowed. New york has very limited capacity. Florida Governor Ron Desantis praising the progress in his home state. We are an Oasis Of Freedom in a nation thats suffering in many parts of the country under the yoke of lockdowns. In far too many places we see schools closed, businesses shuttered and lives destroyed. And while so many governors over the last year have kept locking people down, florida lifted people up. [applause] florida got it right, and the lockdown states got it wrong. Lisa so, lawrence, i want to start with you. So ron desantis, Governor Desantis, took a very common sense approach; protect the vulnerable, protect seniors and let the rest of the state thrive and continue to go about their business as best they can. Why didnt every governor follow that common sense a approach . Lawrence well, lisa, its kind of like my grandmother always said, it aint easy to be a leader. There was a lot of pressure from the media. He was shamed. The people of florida were shamed because they decided to keep the doors open and fight for their own freedom. But the facts are out. And when you look at new york and california and you look at the way that floridas been able to handle it and, by the way, californias still locked down, and the numbers arent going down by that much. I think history will remember desantis. And if the president , the current president im sorry, the former president doesnt decide to run, he will be the leading candidate on that stage because he has become, as i said in the last block, this symbol of freedom. Everybody was back home and everyone kept saying why wont they just give us a chance. The people here are saying why wont they just give us a chance . Remember, the people at this conference are coming from all of the states in the country. And many of them are still locked down. Kids cant go to school. You can go to school in florida, and by the way, you can choose which school you want to go to because of School Choice. And so, again, this is going to be remembered my history. Right now he wont be remembered by the press because, again, theyre still not giving him credit for what he was able to do in the state. Lisa well, and, gillian, when Governor Cuomo was mandating uss in Nursing Homes to take in covidpositive patients, desantis was mandating they were not allowed to take those patients in. To lawrences point, how do you think history will remember Governor Desantis . Gillian so i think the big sort of message here is that there were no easy answers, theres still no easy answers. Theres not a single u. S. State whose trajectory in terms of average daily or weekly numbers has gone steadily like this, florida included. I looked into the numbers just before the show started. Florida ranks number nine in terms of the highest number, sadly, of new cases over the final weekly average basis for the last two weeks. Three weeks ago florida was in the bottom half. They were at Something Like number 26 or 27, so on the low end. This is not to criticize ron desantis leadership here at all but just to inject a reminder to everybody that the picture changes over time, and thats okay. Florida overall served as a much better model for the rest of the nation than say the state of new york. But its important to keep looking at the numbers every day, every week and looking at what is working and what is not working in the case of florida maybe were seeing increasing rates now because travel, some Interstate Travel has opened up, we dont know. But its important to not get too caught up in this politician or that politician is a hero because at the end of the day that doesnt help anybody. Lisa but he is paving the way. I mean, hes led people like me to flee communist new york and to come down to freedomloving florida gillian and look how happy lisa im so happy. You look at the migration patterns, and people are coming to states like florida because he didnt shut the economy down, hes allowing us to be free. Sean, we look at the goal posts that keep moving, and the 15 days to slow the spread turned into months. It was no mask, one mask, now two masks, and even after the vaccine things may not get back to normal until 2022. We ever get will we ever get back to normal . Sean i think we will, but the human heart yearns for freedom. And even if youre a liberal progressive from new york to california, you still want to go to those places that offer you freedom. To lawrences point, when the media wants this group to lock down, wear masks and florida does it different, they actually have to attack him and try to beat him. And in the end, the results in florida have been, i think, profound. You can navigate a pandemic, do it well and keep your businesses alive and thriving along with your economy. He is a success story. New york is a sign and a state of absolute failure. Lisa well, and i also think its such a testament to him. Weve seen governors like cuomo use a crisis to get more power, use a crisis to control his state, and desantis took the opposite approach, so, you know, kudos to him, and im glad to be free here in florida. The School System announced, quote as we become more culturally responsible, more leaders should know in recent Years Research has revealed radical undertones in the books written and drawn by dr. Seuss. Now, even bill maher is warning the left that cancel culture is becoming too crazy s. The liberals need a stand the your ground law for cancel culture. So that when the woke mob comes after you for some ridiculous offense, youll stand your ground, stop apologizing because i cant keep up anymore with whos on the [bleep] list. Memo to social justice warriors. When what youre doing sounds like an onion headline, stop. Sean ive got to tell you, im not a big fan of bill maher, but he has these moments where he actually has these moments of common sense where as a conservative i have to applaud him for pushing back. I want to get back to that in a little bit. I want to go to you first, lisa, and talk about louden county, its in virginia. Their schools arent open. Theyve been closed for 11 months, but here the School District is going to cancel Green Eggs And Ham, theyre going to cancel mr. Brown can moo, can you, cat in the hat. So it was all by dr. Seuss. Do you think its racist . Lisa no, i dont want, and this is insanity. I dont. Same thing with the San Francisco school board. Those kids arent allowed to go back to school, but theyre focused on renaming schools. Thats the priority, right . You know, all of this makes me very, very worried because im looking at the dollar signs and thinking to myself as someone who doesnt have kids yet, im going to have to spend a lot of money on schools because im not sending my kids to Public Schools where theyre going to be indoctrinated with this kind of garbage. I think these idiots and these crazy people in the public School Systems as well as the Teachers Unions over the past few months have shown that they done care about students, that its all about them, because theyre making republicans case for School Choice. And that should be a priority for republicans both for the midterms as well as the 2024 election. Because if we want to focus on real issues of things like quality, its making sure that a zip code doesnt determine a childs future, and thats why School Choice is so important. Its something that the majority of americans supported, republicans support, democrats, independents, and so republicans should really utilize some of the crazy things that are going on in schools as well as the past few months with the Coronavirus To Push School Choice and to fight for it. Sean youre absolutely right because if you give parents the money to go to a school that fits their values, you empower parents, not teachers. Gillian, i want to go to you because it wasnt the parents that asked to cancel dr. Seuss, it was actually the learning for justice education, a liberal association, a liberal Education Advocacy group. Should the School Boards be listening to Advocacy Groups or parents on how they should run their schools . Gillian sean, what you just said is a key point there. Were seeing this happen not just with books and literature, but with movies and films. You have these case makers in this case, educators who are saying, you know what . Were going to prohibit these things because they dont represent our Cultural Values right now and today. Thats really the whole point of art and, i would argue, the whole point of education in the first place, is to take an expansive view of human history. And thats really the whole point of having kids in school in the first place. One thing to ban forthcoming books when publishers do that, which were seeing an increasing amount of, because Publishing Houses are businesses at the end of the day. Its another thing when you start banning books that have been printed and in circulation for decades. You then enter this territory where were just back to banning books which sets us back about a hundred years as a country. Sean yeah. A long time ago. Lawrence, tell me, do you think dr. Seuss is racist, number one, and two, what do you think about bill maher pushing back on liberals and the woke cancel culture . Will there be more liberal comedians who join bill maher to ask for common sense from the lefties in america . Lawrence lawrence i dont know if hes ive never met him. I dont know whats in the mans heart. And, quite frankly, this is an example, right . The real thing is are you against cancel culture or are you not. And that is the theme of cpac, america uncanceled. I will remind people of this, cancel culture is like a wildfire.
