The ntsb is investigating as we learn more about what happened inside the plane. Christina coleman live in los angeles with the latest on both incidents. Reporter jon, apparently eight hours before that Emergency Landing in denver, another plane, a boeing 747 headed to new york from the netherlands, had an engine fire. The cargo plane took off and just like the plane out of denver, this aircraft also had Engine Trouble shortly after takeoff. The dutch regional Safety Inspector says debris injured a boy and a woman and damaged several homes and cars. The plane made a safe Emergency Landing in belgium. The cause of the e Engine Trouble is under investigation just as it is in ten very after a boeing 777 plane made an Emergency Landing there yesterday afternoon. One of the jets Enginesound Flf from denver causing the outer casing to disintegrate. Its unclear what caused the right engine to malfunction. Fortunately, the crew was able to land this plane safely. Take a listen to the mayday call. Reporter ten crew members and 231 passengers were onboard united flight 328 as the plane soared through the sky with a Burning Engine. Passengers recalled hearing a loud bang and fearing what would happen next. Holding hands can saying prayers and just looking at each other. Again, it was really silent. There really wasnt a lot of anybody talking at all. You know, all these things are going through your head of whats really happening, are we going to be able to land. Reporter this plane also dropped debris in the Small Community of broomfield just north of denver. The ring from the Burning Engin narrowly are missed a house and some metal was scattered throughout the area. Miraculously, no one was hurt. It was like everywhere, so im surprised nobody got hurt because of all these big chunks everywhere. Reporter some very intense moments there. So there was an engine fire on two different planes within 24 hours, and the cause of both incidents are now under investigation. Jon . Jon Christina Coleman in los angeles, thank you. Jon well, the governor of new york, andrew cuomo, faces fresh outrage from both sides of the aisle over claims he tried to cover up information about the number of covid deaths in Nursing Homes in new york. Many, including new york congresswoman alexandria ocasiocortez, are calling for a full investigation. The State Legislators are looking to strip cuomo of the Emergency Powers hes employed during the pandemic. Aishah hasnie is live in new york with more. Reporter jon, good evening. In talks about impeachment also heating up tonight. State assemblyman ron kim tells fox news there are a number of meetings planned for tomorrow, and State Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle want to talk impeachment. This bipartisan outcry really surrounds a laundry list of issues including that March 25th Order to allow Covid Patients back into Nursing Homes. The delay in the release of nursing home data the, the undercounting of nursing home deaths giving these facilities and hospitals legal immunity, and the governor allegedly bullying and intimidating State Lawmakers, including kim, who claims cuomo threatened to destroy him. In fact, kim just fired off9 another allegation this evening, tweeting on april 14, 2020, i sent a letter to cuomo about the dangerous conditions at a flushing nursing home, and to this date i have not received a response. The above has blamed politics and the media for spreading lies. Meanwhile, more controversy tonight for his administration, a doctor pushing back on claims from top aides that he was a Chief Adviser to the governor and talked to him on a regular basis. Listen. Thats absolutely not true the. Never true. Identify had one 5minute conversation, which was a surprise, and he had seen me on msnbc, just wanted to call and say what a great job i did. Reporter and the governors Senior Adviser tonight tweeting, writing on twitter that this doctor was an adviser and perhaps wasnt talking directly to the governor, but was talking to him through another team working within the administration. Jon . Jon one would think the doctor would know. Aishah hasnie, thanks. One of the biggest priorities of President Bidens first hundred days in office, getting his Cabinet Nominees confirmed. That process continues tomorrow when the president s pick for attorney general, merrick garland, goes before the Senate Judiciary committee. David spunt has the latest from the white house, but first, Mark Meredith with a preview of this weeks hearings. Mark. Reporter starting monday, the senate will hold two days of hearings examining merrick garlands record, beliefs and his plans for the justice department. Garland previously served at the department in the 1990 overseeing some of the countrys top cases including the prosecution of the Oklahoma City bomber. In 1997 garland was confirmed to the u. S. Court of appeals for the d. C. Circuit, a job he still has today n. 2016 garland was nominated by thenpresident obama to the supreme court. You may remember Senate Republicans refused to consider garland, though, citing the upcoming election. In his opening statement, garland is expected to talk about what hell work on right away including prosecuting those people responsible for the january 6th capitol attack. Senate republicans want to ask garland about his thoughts on the scandal involving new york governor andrew cuomo, facing questions about how his office handled deaths at new york Nursing Homes. A handle of Senate Republicans wrote when judge garland testifies before this committee, we expect him to commit to full wily investigating this coverup to determine whether any criminal laws were violated and to prosecute any violation. Meantime, President Bidens nominee for the Office Of Management And Budget is facing an Uphill Battle in her confirmation. Neera tanden was considered a controversial pick after years of mocking republicans on twitter. Now one democrat, senator joe manchin, says he wont support her nomination because of those past comments. Now, manchins no vote makes it very difficult for the white house to get tanden confirmed, but President Biden says he thinks it is still possible. Jon . Jon Mark Meredith reporting, thank you. Well, theres a big push from the white house as President Bidens nearly 2 trillion Stimulus Bill could go to the house floor this week. But many republicans complain this covid relief bill is crammed with pet projects that have nothing to do with the pandemic including an underground rail project in Silicon Valley. Dade spunt live at the white house with more on that. David. Reporter hi, jon. How the president navigates this country through this historic ap pandemic may be his legacy for the history books. He worked on capitol hill as a senator for 36 year, touted his relationship with both democrats and republicans. He wants republicans to come onboard with this nearly 2 trillion covid relief package but knows it are not be an easy task. President biden wants to provide 1400 checks to those most in need, this is in addition to the 600 under the trump administration. You hear the 2,000 figure when you add the two together. The president spent part of friday at a Pfizer Vaccine manufacturing plant in michigan getting updates on the distribution while at the same time pushing that plan to americans of all political persuasions. We need congress to pass my American Rescue plan that deals with the immediate crisis, the you are general city urgency. Now, critics say my plan is too big, that it costs 1. 9 trillion. Thats too much. Are let me ask them, what would they have me cut . Reporter and, jon, republicans are concerned about some of the earmarks, as you mentioned, approximately 100 million for the Bay Area Rapid Transit System near san francisco, about A Billion Dollars for other similar transportation projects, around 200 million for museums and libraries and about 270 million combined in arts and humanities endowments. Not just democrats, unfortunately thats one of the hazards of having a bill this big. And, look, in your previous segment you talked about nutritional assistance. Yeah, ill be happy to talk about nutritional system systems, but lets not be building an Underground Railroad through Silicon Valley. Reporter jon, democrats say nutrition assistance, also help with rent and housing aid and aid for small businesses, those are the cornerstones of this bill. Its expected to clear a house panel tomorrow before going to the full house floor later this week. Jon . Jon david spunt at the white house. David, thank you. Reporter thank you. Jon for more on this and other matters on capitol hill, lets bring in Republican Congress emman from florida, byron donalds, hes a member of the House Budget Committee and the House Committee on small business. Good to have you on again, congressman, thank you for being here. When republicans took over the house in the first, well, two years after the election of president obama, earmarks, i thought, were eliminated. It sounds like earmarks are creeping back into the nations business here. Listen, we got rid of earmarks a long time ago because its wasteful. Frankly, its corruptive of the legislative process and the budgetary process, and its indicative of how terrible the ideas are coming from the democrat side of the aisle that they literally have to buy off members of congress in order to support these radical bills and ideas. We should not be bringing back earmarks. They should continue to be left in the past of the way washington used to work. If they want to get buyin for these spending bills, they have to be bills that actually are on the merit, that work for the American People and not buying members off to get pork back to their districts. Jon yeah, what does an Underground Railroad in Silicon Valley have to do with covid relief for the rest of the nation . It has absolutely nothing to do with it. Just like 15 minimum wage has nothing to do with it, just like sending more money to School Districts when theres already 50 plus billion dollars that is unspent to help School Districts reopen, just like sending billions of dollars to state and local governments that refuse to let their businesses reopen. Thats the problem with in this bill. I know the president wants to say the cornerstone of this bill is money to get vaccines and checks to people who are unemployed, but the reality is its wasteful spending, it is pork, and its buying up members of Congress Just so they can get their the liberal wish list using coronavirus pandemic as an excuse. Jon one thing a lot of parents would like to see reopen is their local schools. Theyre, you know, afraid that their kids are not doing well with Distance Learning and, frankly, you know, that somebodys got to care for those kids if theyre at hope. What are the prospects, do you think, of getting schools back open across the country . Jon, this is one of those things that really its about local governments, local School Districts and the local Teachers Unions. Washington, d. C. Sending money to districts is not going to help schools reopen. Floridas schools have been open since august of last year, since the beginning of the school year. What it took in florida was leadership and a plan which we developed using cdc guidelines in order to make sure our kids could get back into the classroom safely. We have provided a hybrid program for those participants who werent comfortable sending their children back to school, but other states and cities are following political science. They dont need money from d. C. These parents in these communities need to get in front of their school board members, their mayors and demand that they reopen so their kids can learn and actually propel their education and get their futures back on track. Jon well, wouldnt a little push from the white house help . Frankly, a little push isnt needed from the white house. If they needed a push, frankly, what the white house is doing is no push at all. The white house came out with this lame plan of one day a week. One day a week for a child isnt helping. I have three sons. If i sent my 9yearold to school one today a week, hes not learning. Thats just a day a week to get acclimated to whats going on in the classroom. The white house has failed on this measure. What they should be doing is what the Previous Administration was doing actually and that is promoting that schools open five days a week or provide hybrid programs and those other things for parents this those communities who dont feel comfortable sending their kids back. One of the things the Biden Administration is undoing is much of the Immigration Approach of the Previous Administrationment listen to Stephen Miller who was a top adviser to former President Trump. This legislation proposes serving applications to previously deported Illegal Immigrants and giving them the chance to reenter the country on a rapid path to citizenship. The Current Administration has already dismantled border security, Restoring Catch And Release and, additionally, gutting interior enforcement, issueing a memo preventing i. C. E. From removing the vast majority of criminal Illegal Immigrants that it encounters. Jon what do you think about that . Does he have that right, in your view . Stephen miller has it exactly right. I was talking with one of my local sheriffs about the 287g program which is being dismantled by this administration. Until Collier County, florida, we were sending about 6070 illegal aliens who basically broke our laws here in Collier County over to the Detention Facility in homestead, florida. Thats down to 2, maybe 3 inmates a week. Its a catastrophe for our country. Theyre not securing the southern border. Theyre allowing people to come across the border illegally with impunity, and what thats fostering are these caravans coming out of South America which is not helping. Listen, jon, we want to control covid19 and get our country back open. Allowing people to come into the country en masse with very little checks is not going to help the United States. Number two, if we have to get people back to work including, frankly, black and brown people back to work, and so bringing in other people9 into the work force at the low end of the socioeconomic spectrum is not going to help our lowskilled workers whether theyre white, black or hispanic here in the United States. These are liberal policies. These are not effective policies for the future of our country. Jon the former president is going to be making his first postpresident ial speech at the conservative Political Action conference next week. Mike huckabee had some thoughts on that. Listen. I think the first thing that the president should say when he gets to the podium at cpac is, yall miss me yet . We miss prolife policy, we miss proamerica policies, we miss the pushback against china, we miss the kind of Job Opportunities for minorities, women that we had under President Trump. This was never about his personality. It was about the things that he did as president. And, boy, do we miss them now. Jon so were all interested to hear what the former president has to say. What would you like to hear from him . Frankly, what i want to hear from President Trump is a refinaller to the American People of reminder to the American People of how successful his policies were for our country. Frankly, about how the reason that a million plus people in the United States are being vaccinated today is because of his leadership under operation warp speed. It has nothing to do with the Current Administration. And, frankly, a reminder that our allies across the world and, quite frankly, our greatest ally, israel, needs our help now more than ever. And we should not be going back to the table with the iranian regime. We should be standing by israel, we should be standing by our allies across the world. We should be promoting middle east peace, not breaking it down by going back to iran, and making sure that our country stays America First and not caught up in paris Climate Accords or anything else that doesnt help the American People. Jon byron donalds, florida congressman and father of three boys, thank you. Thanks for having me, jon. Have a great day. Jon you too. We are getting an update out of texas from the governor on how many people there are still without power and water and what local officials think about a possible president ial visit as early as this week. Jon well, the weather finally warmig up, but the crisis is far from over in texas. 30,000 people still dont have power after last weeks devastating storm. Many more are struggling to find food and water. President biden has declared a major tsa in the state. The white house says he could visit as soon as this week. Heres the mayor of houston on that. Well, he said he would come now. He would not be a distraction, neither a burden. Let me just say with so many homes having pipes that burst because of the frigid weather and major leaks, major water damage, we need a lot of plumbing material and supplies, and were needing water as well for people across the board. Jon Casey Stegall is reporting live now from dallas. Casey. Reporter jon, temperatures made it above 70 degrees today across the Dallas Fort Worth area. However, still at this hour millions of people across the state are struggling to find clean drinking water. Some 9 million more bottles of water are on the way to texas to be distributed to the residents here as are some 5 million mres, or meals ready to eat, from the u. S. Military as the state begins to they out and power is restored. Reports are surfacing of people getting slapped with outrageous power bills in the thousands of dollars. In fact, the Governors Office now says it is investigating, but with roads now clear and deliveries are at least reaching stores, shelves are getting restocked because even the basics have been difficult to come by. I went and i got these, and i got ten of em. Thats what were living on, okay . The bread was gone, the milk was gone, the biscuits were gone. I mean, everything was empty. It was like an empty Grocery Store except for the people. So it was hard. Reporter as weve also been telling you this week, the extreme cold crippled part of the states Agriculture Industry from cattle and dairy farms trying to keep animals alive to Citrus Farmers and those who lost bounties of their crops in the field. In addition to the federal disaster declaration that has been approved by President Biden, Governor Abbott has also requested a Disaster Designation with the usda for some of the most impacted counties as far as agriculture goes. Jon . Jon Casey Stegall in disaster. Casey, thank you. While President Biden says he wants to get americas back in the classroom kids back in the classroom, the guidelines from the centers for Disease Control are creating confusion among parents, teachers and students all across the country. Charles watson live in atlanta with more. Charles. Reporter hi, jon. It is President Bidens hope that most k8 schools reopen five days a week for inperson learning by his 100th day in office, but, however, critics say that could be difficult under new cdc guidelines to safely reopen schools. Of concern, among other things, is the cdcs recommendation that schools in areas with high transmission rates move to hybrid learning. Right now that would affect more than 70 of students who are enrolled in schools that are in socalled red zones. Meanwhile, increasingly frustrated parents in oakley, california, holding protests in hopes of getting their kids back in class as State Lawmakers try to pass legislation that addresses funding issues. This follows the resignation of the entire Oakley Union Elementary School District board after members were caught on a hot mic mocking parents. If are we alone . Yeah. [laughter] [bleep] if youre going to call me out, im going to [bleep] you up. I forget that theres they forget that theres real people on the other side of the letters that theyre riding exactly. And its unfortunate. They want to pick on us. They want their babysitters back. Reporter and Teachers Unions across the country have resisted demands to send teachers back to class without a Vaccination Plan in place and adequate funding. President biden and Vice President harris have dodged questions about whether or not they believe teachers should be vaccinated before schools reopen for inperson learning. However, the white house has said the president and Vice President support new cdc guidelines which dont require teachers to be vaccinated before schools reopen. Speaking of vaccines, georgia teachers who have largely taught inperson this school year are jumping state lines to get vaccinated. The state has not yet authorized teachers to get the vaccine, and that is causing some to held to neighboring alabama to get their shot. It throws off their numbers and their ability to plan effectively. So i would hope that our teachers would wait. Reporter and, jon, georgia officials are Prioritizing Seniors right now. They say they hope to get the teachers within the next few weeks. Back to you, jon. Jon Charles Watson in the atlanta, thank you. Jon well, heres a rare thing, Saturday Night Live taking shots at andrew cuomo last night, calling out the new york governor in the shows cold open. In that sketch cuomo, played by pete davidson, offered a lackluster apology for the Nursing Home Scandal before insulting senator ted cruz who was widely criticized this week for flying to mexico during the cold weather crisis in texas. I am a man, you are a clown. I accept that, thanks. And if you mess with me, i are send you to a clown hospital. [laughter] and when you die, i will not count your body. [laughter] jon joe concha is a Fox News Contributor and media opinion columnist for the hill. Joe, its not often that Saturday Night Live pokes fun at democrat politicians, but usually the best comedy has a ring of truth to it. Did they, did they hit the truth button there . They kind of did, right . Because you throw cruz in there as well. Its amazing that weve seen, jon, for the past, oh, i dont know, ten months now a media that has fawned over Governor Cuomo, has basically propped him up as the greatest governor in the country as far as his handling of covid. He ended up writing a book about it, of course, while the pandemic was still raging, he was actually awarded an emmy as well. But now even Saturday Night Live cant avoid e whats going on. Theres an fbi investigation, obviously, reportedly also a u. S. Attorneys investigation into his actions around Nursing Homes, obviously, sending covid19positive patients back into Nursing Homes. And then, obviously, an aide coming out last week and talking about a coverup as far as 9,000 underreported deaths. And its interesting that andrew cuomo in a press Conference Last Week blamed republicans around taking this and weaponizing it from a political perspective except the fact is that even alexandria ocasiocortez, the congresswoman from new yorks 14th district, is even calling for an investigation into cuomo as are other new york democrats. So, yeah, the narrative of last year which was cuomo was the hero, trump is the villain, desantis is the villain, that is all falling apart, and most of the criticism is coming from a media that ignored it or Saturday Night Live that wouldnt touch it and, obviously, democrats in new york saying Governor Cuomo perhaps even should resign. Its really remarkable. Jon and even the spokeswoman for the president of the United States, the president having said that andrew cuomo was sort of the Gold Standard of governors. When she was asked can about whether that is still the case, whether the president still considers that to be the case, she dodged a bit. Watch. Does President Biden still consider andrew cuomo the Gold Standard when it comes to leadership on the pandemic . Well, john, we work with above cuomo just like we work with governors across the country. Hes also chair of the nga, so hes played an Important Role in insuring that were coordinate night closely and getting assistance the out to people of his state and to states across the country. And well continue to do that. Jon thats an artful dodge from a, i guess, a seasoned political spokeswoman. [laughter] that is a nonanswer to end all nonanswers. It was a very simple thing. Andrew cuomo spoke at the National Democratic Convention Last august, endorsed President Biden. That was a great endorsement to have, and now for the white house to join other democrats in saying we dont consider him the Gold Standard considering his actions and considering a possible coverup, that was too much for jen psaki to handle. Jon very quickly, facebook is kicking Australian News publications, News Gatherers off of facebook australia. Whats behind that, joe . Its very interesting. Here you have Australian Media Companies and publishers, they produce content for australia, and therefore, facebook then aggregates it and profits off of it, an 86 billion company in revenue, and theyre refusing to pay for it. Is so australia passed some legislation saying, no, you have to pay for our comment, so facebook up friended australia, the entire country, 17 million users now dont have access to it and, more importantly, emergency services, very important things like hospitals, charities, Domestic Violence support groups, they cant access it now, and it looks bad optically, certainly. Jon we will continue to watch that, certainly. Joe con shah concha, good to see you. Thanks. Thanks. Jon now this fox news alert, the faa administerrer, steve dixon, says his agency plans to issue an Emergency Directive to require immediate or steppedup inspections of engines on boeing 777 airplanes after an engine on a United Airlines flight 328 caught fire shortly after taking off from denver yesterday. It sent debris raining down on a denver suburb. The faa says united is the only u. S. Operator with 777 airplanes that use the engines covered by this Emergency Directive. We will continue to follow this story and bring you any new information as it comes in. Here, now, some oh headlines from around the globe. And in sicily, mount etna erupted for the fourth time in as many days this morning spewing lava and plumes of ash. Aetna is one of the worlds most active volcanos and a popular tourist test nation. Well, the chief of the United Nations Nuclear Watchdog agency says iran will begin to offer u. N. Inspectors less access to its nuclear program. This as tehran tries to pressure europe and the Biden Administration to return to the 2015 nuclear deal. President trump pulled the u. S. Out of that deal in 2018. Trey yingst has more on that from our mideast bureau. Reporter jon, good evening. Iranian officials are halting plans to expel Weapons Inspectors from their country as a stalemate on the nuclear deal continues. Rafaeling gross city, the Director General of the International Atomic energy agency, met with the iranians today in tehran to discuss the issue and was able to make some progress. He left the meeting saying that iran will continue to implement the comprehensive safeguards agreement and that a temporary understanding was reached to allow the iaea to keep monitoring Iranian Nuclear activities for up to three months. Under a new law passed by Irans Parliament in december, the aiea will no longer have access to camera feeds that allow them to monitor from afar. Its unclear if the agreement today changes that implementation. We do know that Snap Inspections will no longer take place irregardless of the understanding today. Despite european efforts over the past week to lower tensions, there is still increased uncertainty surrounding the nuclear deal. There has to be on part of the europeans and the americans to implement their obligation. Now, we have reduced our, the level of our commitment, but we have always said its reversible. The minute they come back to full compliance, we will go back to full compliance. Reporter according to mohamed zarif, u. S. Sanctions on the Islamic Republic inflicted 1 trillion in damage. The iranians have made clear they will not return to the framework of the nuclear deal unless the economic pressure from the americans is lifted. The Biden Administration has offered to participate in informal talks to get the process started. This offer has been supported by other jcpoa participants including china and russia. Breaking this morning, National Security adviser Jake Sullivan told cbs news that the americans and iranians have started talking over u. S. Hostages that are held there. While these arent nuclear talk, it does seem like a step in the right direction. Jon Trey Yingst Reporting from jerusalem, thank you. That concludes our look at stories from around the globe.
