Back in october we were the first to showcase the renowned epidemiologist which cautioned against lockdowns and predicted Herd Immunity was within reach but the media cartel did not take kindly for that. For simply pointing this out this show was referred to as a death cult. And dr. Fauci responded this way. Quite frankly, thats nonsense. And anybody who knows anything about epidemiology will tell you that that is nonsense, and very dangerous, because what will happen is that if you do, by the time you get to Herd Immunity, youll have killed a lot of people that would have been avoidable. Laura forget about the people who died because of the lockdown. The truth always prevails and tonight the Barrington Scientists are here to respond. Joining us is professor from Stanford University and a Harvard Medical School biostatistician and epidealologist. Why did it take so long for scientists to come along to the conclusion that acquired immunity or Natural Immunity was going to be upon us sooner than all of their predictions, especially with fauci saying we needed 80 to 90 Herd Immunity . I think people overestimated the ability of these lockdowns to do any good whatsoever. They thought lockdowns as keeping people apart like in cages from one another. In fact, thats not the Actual Experience of lockdowns. Even though weve adopted these lockdowns, the cases have spread pretty widely. I think that they overestimated these lockdowns and they underestimated very strangely that once youre infected you do produce immunity. The other thing is the development of the vaccine started to help with development of immunity in the population. It was just a mistake on the part of the Scientific Community and dr. Fauci to, in thinking about these lockdowns, and i think its produced devastating effects. Laura i mean, im not an epidemiologist. Im not an i am knewologist, i wish i had gone to med school, its so fascinating. Fauci is not a dumb person. Hes a really smart guy there are loot of smart people saying things that just didnt add you will, whether its t cell immunity, and now with the help of some vaccines, i find it very odd, maybe im not as charitable about the most variations but i find the whole thing very, very strange. Yes, its kind of stunning because if we look at the history of epidemics and pandemics they end with Herd Immunity. And thats the same as now this pandemic is ending with Herd Immunity. So thats what we knew it would happen and thats whats happening. Laura that means when the concern, about viral variants, which is what is being brought up, and no good news in covid land, there is never any good news, always another variant around the corner, but those variants arent shown, at least not now, to be more lethal, are they . So why is that being trotted out as anything but getting us closer to Herd Immunity . I think there is some element of, were so used to being scared and panicked that we kind of youre absolutely right. There is no evidence that these variants are more lethal. Most of the evidence suggests that if you had covid before, youre still protected against the variants, and the vaccines are also protective to large extent against the variants that weve seen thus far. To the extent that, i mean, its always possible that there is some variant but it seems unlikely given what weve seen thus far. I think the panic has been one of the biggest mistakes in this epidemic. We should be reassuring the public when we can and we should have been through this whole epidemic. A lot of harm thats come from the panic induced by the Public Health community and dr. Fauci in particular. Laura doctor, dr. Fauci was asked about when we could possibly get back to normal. Thats a question thats asked pretty much every day. And this is what he said yesterday. No, wait a minute. I really want to know, when its going to get as close to normal that you almost dont know the difference between what it was before. Maybe youre going to still have to wear masks, that likely will be, as the president said, by the end of the years, by christmas. But these are all estimates and so many things can happen to modify that. Laura doctor, why do they keep saying christmas . That doesnt make any sense because we know that covid is seasonal, and a year ago, in february, the rate was going up, but now its going down. So we have sort of past the peak, which means that we have a lot of immunity in the population. And then also, the threshold needed for Herd Immunity is lower in the summer. So there is no reason why we shouldnt go back to normal in the spring and summer, and there is no reason there is no Public Health reasons why we shouldnt open the schools on monday. Every school in the United States. Laura doctor, the issue of school openings, in person learning, i think the first time we addressed it was in april of last year because we saw what they were doing in france, germany, and sweden, where they kept kids in school with only a few problems here and there but they were quickly dealt with. Again, other than the point that were kind of squelching free speech in the medical community or dismissing, you know, centuries old thought about immunity, the issue of the children and schools, how is history going to look back on that . Weve robbed a generation of children of their birth right to have a good education, for no good Public Health purpose. We dont have to look to europe. Youre absolutely right. We knew from april from just looking at sweden and other countries in europe Keeping Schools open safely. Look in florida, where schools have been open to in Person Instruction five days a week without all the rigor. We should open our schools immediately five days a week and go back to normal. Were damaging a generation of children in ways that we cannot recover from and there is no good moral reason to do it. No good Public Health reason to do it. Laura to that point, this is how the Biden Administration tried to address the obvious failure of lockdowns in the state of california. California basically in lockdown and their numbers arent that different from florida. Look, there is so much of this virus that we think we understand, that we think we can predict, its Just A Little Bit beyond our explanation. Laura doctor, again, im not a doctor, you guys are the experts, but is that really beyond explanation . Arent we seeing a controlled experiment taking place before our eyes with different state approaches, whats working and whats not . Well, whats happening is completely predictable. Lockdowns does not work and we have proof now that they do not work. That they do not protect all people. Unfortunately, there were a lot of people who were thinking that by doing lockdown, we would indirectly protect old people by suppressing the virus in the population but of course, that didnt work and we knew it wasnt going to work. But the sad thing is because people were thinking that the lockdowns were working, and protecting the older, highrisk people, we didnt take the measures, the focused measures of protecting them through standard Public Health measures that could have been implemented and should have been implemented already in march, of 2020. And because we didnt take those focused Protection Measures of older, highrisk people, we have seen very high death count because of that. He issued this statement on the anniversary of the Parkland School shooting saying for three years now the parkland families have spent birthdays and holidays without their loved ones. Im calling on congress to act common sense reforms including requiring background checks, banning Assault Weapons and high gas magazines, and eliminating immunity for gun manufacturers. But will any of this really prevent another Mass Shooting . My next guest, the father of a parkland victim, who tragically lost his daughter. Ryan, i know this brings up all the tragedy and everything that goes along with it and your personal loss, but President Biden says, look, this is just common sense, whats your response . Its anything but common sense. In fact, common sense would tell us that we dont have to give up our freedoms to be more safe, and more secure. In fact, what i would ask President Biden to do is look at the reforms weve made in florida. The things that weve done here to make our schools safer as a model for the rest of the country. The mode of attack will change. So anything that we ban wont make us any safer. Look, i sat on the commission that investigated the tragedy that took, when my daughter was lost. In all the recommendations that were made we made no Government Control Recommendations whatsoever. We didnt find any evidence that additional Gun Control Measures would have been helpful at all. When you look at the tragedy, when you understand how it happened, there were warning signs that were going on for years. This was a preventable tragedy. The problem was the School District didnt talk to law enforcement. Law enforcement didnt talk to the School District, and Neither Party talked to the Mental Health provider. This could have been prevented with communication and some action being taken on the part of the School District or law enforcement. Laura the White House Press secretary addressed this issue of Gun Legislation this week. Watch. The president is somebody throughout his career has advocated for smart gun safety measures. He has hes not afraid to stand up to the nra. Hes done it multiple times and won on background checks, a range of issues and its a priority to him on a personal level. Laura they all frame this as standing up to the big, bad nra. Who does gun control really end up hurting . The poor, the disadvantage, those who cant afford private security perhaps . Lawabiding citizens in general is who it hurts. Criminals dont follow the gun laws. And quite frankly, you know, then idea of a universal become ground check, look, the killer in parkland passed a background check. He purchased his firearm legally. The issue we really need to solve is understanding who is a threat. The irony of this whole thing is the answer that President Biden is looking for is literally standing in front of him. The u. S. Secret service has studied these mass attacks for years. They use something called behavioral threat assessment to protect the president. Thats the answer. Thats how we prevent these attacks from happening. And i would hope that the Biden Administration would shift gears, not go down this path that, you know, its really a myth, when they say that all of the victims families or any victims of gun violence are progun control.
