Weve got hundred thousands, millions of people that dont have the opportunity to get the shot and were worrying about criminals that we spend millions of dollars year to take care of. But these 40 low lives didnt get the vaccine, wouldnt bother me at all. [laughter] well stay on top of this story and bring you the latest as it develops. Arthel. Eric meanwhile President Biden leaving door open for a bipartisan approach, on more covid relief. Relief making it clear that he will move ahead on additional stimulus, quote, no ifs ands or buts with or without support welcome to a brand new era of America News Headquarters im arthel neville. Hi eric. Eric hello earn im Eric Shawn Shangs for joining us. The president is calling for nearly 2 trillion Coronavirus Relief bill. While republicans are balking at that high price tag democrats, though, may have to go at alone and House Speaker nancy pelosi and Senate Majorities leader Chuck Schumer well they say that preparing to do just that if they have to. Both say they could consider a new relief bill as soon as this coming week. David spunt is live at the white house with what could happen this week. Hi. President biden is making calls privately to members on capitol hill both republican, and democrat and speaking of covid, it has been quite a year to give you a perspective monday is february 1st and it was last february when President Trump here at the white house began holding covid19 briefings thats how long weve been in this. President biden says now is the time to act. Now you have to remember the current president is a creature of the senate. He spent 36 years representing delaware, walking through the halls of the senate he considers himself someone that is bipartisan that can work across the aisle to achieve thicks. They wants po pass this covid Relief Package with or without help of republicans remember democrats have the upper hand running the senate, house, and the white house. But the president says he does want to do things in a bipartisan manner first, if not so be it. Lets get this straight, it is not only that people will be badly, badly hurt if you dont pass this package. In terms of Increase Rate of debt and in terms of poverty whole range of things. But we will also be hurt longterm economically. House speak or nancy pelosi will bring that resolution to floor 1. 9 trillion dollars after the house passes it which is expected it will go to the democratic run senate. But there are 50 democrats and 50 republicans in the senate, but Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer is in power because for the constitution Vice President Kamala Harris would be the tie breaking vote and you can expect shell vote to pass the measure. Well it is a little bit harder than that but i think republicans can be there but it cant just be spending 1. 9 pulled out of the air request no justification. There are several senators to watch senators portman tiew me, collins and manchin also back in the house, it is gong to be interesting eric, and arthel to see when republicans there qowld support giving more money in direct payments to the American People because afterall, it was now former President Trump and his last few weeks in office that was pushing for those 2,000 dollar direct payments while those republican who is supported President Trump now support President Biden . Eric, arthel . Eric portman reporting at least few more years to go and may not be thinking about election consequences for Him David Spunt at the white house as always thank you. Arthel. Chicago mayor lawry is taking a stand saying Chicago Public schools will reopen elementary, and middle schools monday, even though the union and the School District are still in negotiations. Reporter tensions mounting in massachusetts Charlie Baker announce seniors 65 and older moved up in State Priority Base covid19 rollout. The union says move will delay educators and getting the vaccine by a couple of weeks, though. Even though the governor wants schools to reopen. A decision was made that really put society against itself. The governor painless service to getting students back in school. But his decision today is delaying a safe return by weeks if not months. Reporter and this comes aside biden chief of staff klain pushes for nor Financial Investments in Public Schools for covid mitigation efforts. Arthel. Arthel Christina Coleman in los angeles. Thank you. Eric. Eric arthel, on our nations other coast, New York State their Governor Andrew Cuomo come under fire this weekend for his response to that scathing report released by new York State Attorney general on the states record dealing with nursing home coronavirus deaths. The report says that Cuomo Administration undercounted deaths by 50 and cuomo placed blame on trump administration, critics, though, say it is time for him to take responsibility himself, alex hogan live in New York City with the details on this growing situation. Hey, alex. Reporter hi eric. Well the new York State Department of health says that more than 12,000 people died in longterm care facilities and that is more than 4,000 more than the number reported and thats because that the state was not including numbers people who actually died at the hospital. But these new numbers would make new york on the top of the list states with the most deaths longterm care facilities. New York Attorney general Letitia James releasing this 76page investigative report saying, government guidance requiring the admission of Covid Code Patients into Nursing Homes may have put residents at increase risk or harm of some facilities and have made obscured Data Available to assess that risk. The governor responding. A third of all deaths in this nation are from Nursing Homes. Were below the National Average in number of deaths in Nursing Homes. But who cares. 33, 28 died in a hospital died in nursing home they died. Reporter Cuomo Calling Loss Of Life A tragedy but arguing that the state only followed federal guidelines the governor now facing a lot of criticism for not taking more responsibility during those remarkses from both the Family Website people who died, and other lawmakers who called for the independent investigation. The governor, of course, accuse us of Playing Politics but this is his own democrat Attorney General who is now come out with a scathing report. Reporter the Attorney Generals report also finding that in some of these nursings homes they simply did not have enough supplies. Meaning testing and ppe some of those Nursing Homes saying they feel like their political leaders abandoned them. Eric. Eric all right alex thanks so much. And in few moments in this newscast well be talking with new york republican assemblyman kevin byrne Ranking Member of the health committee. Hes been trying for months to get the data on the nursing home fatalities in the state. And even appealed to both President Trump and biden for help on that well be talking with assembly men in a few minutes. Arthel. Arthel a huge Winter Storm System is moving east after dumping as of as 9 feet of snow in california. It is set to found the midwest this weekend including chicago before it grows into a noreaster. Meteorologist adam klotz is tracking from the Fox Weather Center heres adam now with more. Adam. Hi arthel yeah that storm is going to be a big headline the next couple of days and were really just geng to see it start to turn from a rainmaker into a snow maker. Turning more into ice, the leading edge of this system now currently out in front of It Snow Falling across areas of chicago, back behind It Temperatures have been too warm but it is going to run more and more into cold air become more of a Winter System so we have winter storm watches and warnings stretching from iowa across great lakes including chicago, and then getting up along east coast midatlantic from d. C. , philadelphia up to new york all areas that are going see significant Winter Weather because of this system. The timing on it, well i think more of the snow begins to develop overnight so particularly across areas of the midwest and then stretching a little further to the east we see some of that snow that gets to the east coast by late on sunday. And then really ramps up sunday night into monday morning. And as you said this eventually just kind of sits itself off the coast becomes noreaster so slow mover and were seeing snow in new England Running you all the way into tuesday all because of this slow moving system. With all of that time, it is able to drop a lot of snow now, running you back towards chicago, areas getting up close to ten inches perhaps six inches to ten inches d. C. Up over half a foot. Ten inches of snow in philadelphia. Half a foot here in New York City. Those numbers could change i think even farther inland arthel we could see a foot of snow or more so this is a big system, of course, well be watching. Arthel absolutely. Thanks adam. All right eric. So if you think there was a mistake, then go talk to the federal government. Its not about pointing fingers or blame. Look whether a person died in a hospital or died in a nursing home, its the people died. Thats new york Governor Andrew Cuomo trying to turn the attention back on the trump administrations record. And in response to new situation here in New York State, that has to do with the new York State Attorney generals report that the Cuomo Health Department underreported nursing home coronavirus debt. And did that by as much as 50 . Critics accuse governor of purposely engaging in an effort to try to hide the true numbers it have those who died in Nursing Homing hains his administration, though, as you heard say they followed the law and federal guidelines for readmittance to Nursing Home Website and he says the criticism is political and, quote, ugly. New york state republican assemblyman leading legislative attempt to delve into all of this hes the Ranking Member of the Health Assembly the Assembly Health committee, assemblyman thank you fur joining us. Do you think this was a Quo Mow Cuomo Overupor just oversight . Weve been asking for this data for months. So certainly they withheld it not only from the public but elected in state legislature. We have an obligation to pass policies that protect Public Health an safety. We know there was a very controversial March 25th Directive from the department of health. Many of us Wanted Answer it is to see what that affect had on our nursing home residents. And now were finally getting some answers from Attorney General james report. And were getting some information with the department of health but still not what we need. They gave us a total for the year from March Of Last year to january. We dont know when or where those deaths occurred. To actually have this information. So theres still hiding this information. Theyre not sharing it with the legislators, it is public data. They need to share it with us thats why ive joined with bipartisan effort with chair of the Age Committee appealing to President Biden previously appealed to trump to compel the cdc to apply reporting to make sure data is public. At this point why would they as you say not want not to release it if its Public Information . Well as weve seen from the breaking stories, and last couple of days, doesnt make new york very good and fit the narrative that most of the media have been putting out there about the governor and state of new york handling covid19 and Nursing Homes. You know, we were we have one of the highest death totals of any state in the nation, and it is tragic and it is awful. But what were being told was earlier in the summer it was over 6,000 deaths. Then it was just about a week ago it was a little over 8,000 death nows were looking at it nearly 13,000 deaths. But thats a giant jump because they werent publicly disclosing the number of covid19 patients that died that could track the virus from the Nursing Homes and you know what the governor says, i mean, sorry to interrupt part of this new system but you know governor says about this. That one, you know, following federal guidelines that Nursing Homes were supposed to be tiebl take care of beam coronavirus, and or prevent spread of coronavirus in his view i guess, he doesnt see that he did anything wrong but you mention that March 25th Directive. Tell us about that. Well March 25th Directive that few things is strongly worded language. Using words like much, prohibit, prevented, any nursing home frommen didding covid19 positive patients with it also prohibited them from acquiring tests some other states had similar orders but, i dont think anyone with any common sense thinks putting covid positive patients into Nursing Homes particularly ill equipped a good idea for hill to suggest the federal government is saying that it is king the with their guidelines, thats just not true. We know that Cms Administrator pushed back against that politifact said that was mostly false. Department of health an Human Services has pushed back against that. The governor owns this. And in earlier during the pandemic and press briefings he talked about being truthful with the new yorkers and American People. Give us the facts thats always asking for be truthful with us you hid this information for us for last several months how are we supposed to do our jobs and loved ones deserve answers and within need to make sure this never ever happens again and if people did cover this up eric if they willfully covered up information, that could have prevented death and destruction in Nursing Homes we need to have them exposed and we need to hold them account accountable. Eric great comfort to those across the country, briefings but now are seeing it in a different light lets take a look and get your reaction on the other side. Dont criticize the state for following the president s policy. The nursing home said, we can take that person. They will all say dont leave a person in a hospital for two weeks we are number 35th in the nation in percentage of deaths in Nursing Homes. Go talk to 34 other states first. Weve done a full study of it. The virus came into Nursing Homes from the staff. There was never directives that said we will stand covid19 positive people back to Nursing Homes. Your response to his point of defense. The directive was clear. The language is clear. If its something he stands by continues to stand by we want to know why it was randomly removed from department of health website. He continues to shift blame and try to point fingers hes quite good at that he needs to take more accountability families that lost loved ones deserve that and he uses statistic eric about percentage of total deaths. It is a misleading statistic. Because we have were the highest total death counts of any state in the country. The reality is if you look at the death count, for those who lost their lives from contracting this virus and Nursing Homes based on information we just received from the Attorney General, were among the highest in the nation. Thats what people should be looking at. Not at the percentage. Eric kevin byrne New York State assemblyman who has a background in het and management by the way and is the Ranking Member of the health committee. Trying to get some answers. Assemblyman good to see you thank you for joining us this afternoon. Thank you, eric. Eric ofng you of course you cat more judge is going to delve into this with congressman and upstate republican member of Congress Talking about the coronavirus issue and Nursing Homes. That, of course, at 9 p. M. Eastern time right here on the fox news channel. Arthel. Arthel eric, is a new covid Strain Reeking Havening on California Community . Up next dr. When you drive this smooth, you save with allstate youve never been in better hands allstate click or call for a quote today yanked governor mary logan confirming more contagious Coronavirus Variant first attempted in south africa well it has been found in his state just days after the first u. S. Case was found in South Carolina. Now this comes as pharmaceutical giant Johnson Johnson plans to apply for approval for one shot vaccine next month but the questions on whether that works as well as two vaccines throughout right now Charles Watt Watson home of the cdc charles. Eric as you mentioned maryland is the second state behind South Carolina to confirm the presence of this covid19 variant from south arc. The white house attention which is trying to contain the variant before it has a chance to make pandemic any worse today the Biden Administration putting in effect a travel ban on all nonu. S. Citizens coming in from south africa press secretary john said that administration is strengthening Public Health measures as it relates to International Travel to protect americans and prevent further spread of the virus. Public Health Officials say that south african variant is as much as 50 more contagious and could be vaccine resistant. A little bit different, in fact, a lot different with the south african strain. Much more formidpublic because mutations are evading somewhat the ability of the antibodies that the vaccines that we all get to be able to suppress it. So thats a challenge. And despite concerns over that new vary i cant Public Health officials are more optimistic about the Vaccine Rollout moving forward as johnson and johnson looks to seek Emergency Use Authorization from the fda for pits covid19 vaccine. And while the vaccines Eve Effiy Rate falls short of Competitor Moderna and pfizer and more vaccination on market will get americans vaccinated much quicker. More we can do get the pandemic under control quickly and again one dose vaccine can help with that. But that reporter and Erik Johnson And johnson expect to the seek Emergency Use Authorization within next week. Back to you. Eric all right charms thanks so much. Arthel. Arthel researchers say a covid variant identified in california may have contributed to case surgery in los angeles. As the state has now crossed 40,000 deaths with more than 3 million confirmed cases. More than one million of them in l. A. County alone, and twothirds of those cases were reported in the last two months. Dr. Ann joins us now shes a professor at uclas department of epidemiology and doctor thanks for joining us i want to jump right in if you would tell us more about this california variant. Well hi arthel it is so nice to be here and yes youre absolutely right we have been seeing here in california, a rapid increase of this varien i cant that seems to have arisen right here. And what we know about it right now is that it does seem to be spreading rapidly so we dont know if this is something thats going to be more how much more contagious it is or if it would be Something Like the south african variant or the u. K. Variant in particular the u. K. Vary i cant might see more more fatalities right now we dont have those answer and part of the reason is because weve been doing so poorly at doing surveillance looking at what variants are spreading here and being able to track it it is like were running a race and falling behind variant we have Mob Moving Fast as we can starting to really have Situational Awareness which has been lacking. Eve a followup to that but i read in research one of the knew takings in California Home grown strain, alters of the viruses ability to infiltrate human cells. And turn them into virus making factories. What does that mean to you . Well what that means is that if somebody gets infected with this particular variant then it means if somebody is exposed to it much more likely that somebody is going to get infected with it as if before if you were potentially near somebody who had covid will get exposed to a different strain it might not be so easy to get infected like you have to double down on things that we know to do that means wearing a Mask Wear Ation really good mask. Staying far away from people, and just doing everything you can to avoid being in contact with people who may be infected we have to assume that everybody has a vary i cant that could potentially be more infectious to do more to avoid getting infected. Of course other thing that people can do is get vaccinated we need more vaccines in arms because the more vaccines we get in arms, the less it is opportunity the virus has to spread, and less opportunity it has to replicate. Arthel to that note will existing vaccines work against this california strain and how do you think they should or do you think they should rethink how they distribute in prioritize the vaccines in california and light of this . Well, so heres what we know about the vaccines. Right now, the vaccines that we have seem to be effective against the variants that are out there today. There seems to be maybe a reduction in efficacy with south african variant were starting to understand that but these vaccines that we have right now are so effective even if they are reduced slightly will probably going to be okay. It is more of the big warning signs like hey, listen, we have variants that are starting to pop up here. Were seeing more and more and more that we have the virus strain more vary i cant were going see so we have to jump in front of it this issue of we have to get in front of this virus we cant be constantly Chasing Bngsd thats why all of the Vaccine Manufacturers are looking at tweaking their vaccines, updating them, and being able to attack any new variant that we see here. But the bottom line is getting vaccinated now using the vaccines that we have available will stop spread of these vary i cants pretty effectively. Arthel meanwhile governor of california Governor Newsom lifted covid Restriction Hair and nail salons are opening with limitations restaurants open for outdoor dining. Will california see another spike as a result . Well, you know, weve seen this pattern before. We know that when we start to open up we give this virus an opportunity to spread. Now were having vary i variant more easily spreading from person to person and likely to see additional surges in cases here. But that means that we have to if were going to open up you dont get one thing without the other. So if youre going open up and going to give this virus more opportunity to spread, it means that we need to get down to the business of vaccinating as fast as we can. Getting more immunity in the population, and then also making sure that the rules are followed these rules of Wearing Masks social distancing, et cetera, et cetera those they thinks work. Theyre in cities and schools that showed that if people followed the protocols even in schools we really dont see cases so if if we do the right thing we could potentially open up, give people the opportunity to get back to work, but you just cant just open up and then expect it to be okay without all of these other things around. So until we get the vaccinations available to all of us, we have to continue mask up, masking up social distancing, and those things are just really protecting us at this point, right doctor yes or no because i have to go . You got it. Arthel okay always a pleasure to talk to you i appreciate your insight and expertise doctor ann, thank you for joining us. My pleasure. Arthel thanks. Well be right back. Eric exclusive investigation of what happened to jimmy you can go to our streaming service fox nation this weekend you can watch what we uncovered in our News Installment of our Series Riddle the search for james and show you the claim that jimmy hoffa is buried in a metal drum 12 feet down under the Pulaski Skyway we went there a few weeks ago and guess what we found. It remains greatest mystery in American History what happened to jimmy hoffa. Hoffa the ledge day care union lead disappeared on july 30th, 1975 and on the way with mafia bosses and finding remains could solve the historic case where frank comes in. His father, paul coowned infamous mob connected dump in new jersey where the fbi suspected hoffa was buried. Frank told fox nation, hoffa body was transported from detroit to the dump where his father buried him. So youre saying your father buried jimmy hoffa. Later in years he sent out and couldnt fit in the drum, and first, had to turn him and put him in head first. Couldnt fit in the drum feet first legs and so he had to take him out and put hem in head first. His dad took excavator buried barrel with his body in it under a pile of other barrels and then covered up the dirt. Frank took Hoffa Expert Daniel to the exact spot. A dusty plot of land just a few feet off the Property Line of his fathers former dump in jersey city under the elevated Pulaski Skyway it is used by a local Waste Management company to store empty dumpsters in owned by new Jersey Department of transportation. Steve were here this is the turn on well fire it up what do you see . Hired Ground Penetrating Radar Systems to use Ground Penetrating radar to see if we can find any evidence of a buried barrels. The halfmoon images piled on top of each other exactly where and just whriek frank said we would find here. Barrels, and the drum Holding Jimmy hoffa. Is that metal . Definitely metal. Definitely metal. We found several round shape metal objects buried here somewhere on top of each other which fits my story exactly. And this is another spot right near the first one which is right thats the round share of what could be a barrel. So this could be this would be the start and this is exactly where pang pointed out to dan stand reeght here is. Standing right here. Saying this is where jimmy hoffa is buried. For now, the land remain as it is, it is illegal for fox nation to dig up the barrels. So the mystery of what happened to jimmy hoffa remains until Law Enforcement digs up what we found. But frank also told me his father paul was a plain businessman not a member of Organized Qliem had no choice but to do what he did he said those who got rid of jimmy hoffa would have got rid of his father if he did not bury the leader. And hope our investigation can finally bring the hoffa family some closure. And that Law Enforcement will investigate what we found. So if you were to watch a new show on there right now, and three previous episodes, Go To Fox Nation and catch up on riddle, the search for james r. Hoffa on fox nation. Right now. Arthel. Well i think they will extend it. The Russian Parliament has already done so thats part of the russian process. On our end i think it is just a matter of the president declaring the intention to extend it. The treaty had a couple of options youre right arthel they could have added to the terms change the treaty. But the deadline as you point out was february 5th and President Biden took office you know on had the 21st so no way you could negotiate a big change in the treaty in that short period of time. But better to extend it and it extends not only the treaty but a tradition in the u. S. Going back to the 1970s when the u. S. And the soviet union in the wake of the scare of the Cuban Missile Crisis thought the best way to protect their security was to reduce the threat of these Nuclear Weapons no one wins a nuclear war so both sides said hey lets not accidentally or otherwise blow up the world and kill each other. So they started this Series Agreements from the 70s and then this is sort of an extension of that. So its a win it is not a huge win because as you say it doesnt really advance beyond where we are. But certainly better to keep what we have and to build on that than to lose and go backwards so i think it is basically sort of study as you go on this particular issue. The issue of u. S. Russian arms control. Arthel i have a lot to go through jim but quickly followup to that. Ill keep them short. Inch appreciate your knowledge but a followup quick followup because you said you point out that because it expires so soon. February 5th, as i mentioned that means President Biden didnt really have time to add his, you know, amendment to term does that mean Putin Opinion for us or the language of the treaty it is extended as is Going Forward thats sort of a typical way. You know treaty you can withdraw at the end of a period of time you can extend it or change it this is simply extension of the previous term. Thank you for clarifying that. President biden also spoke to putin about Russian Bounties on u. S. Troops in afghanistan. Russian allege interference in 2020 election. And allege Human Rights Abuses so why is it important for President Biden to call putin out and say, i see you and it is not okay . Yeah. I think that is important to set some lines, now this is a tough relationship. And you know, i referenced fight during Cold War Soviet Union was a big bad country back then not like today. I mean it was really a difficult challenge for the u. S. But we still had on the one hand arms control so we didnt stumble into suicide. At the same time both sides competed against each other. The u. S. Was tough on the soviet union org did the cold war. But we still managed to agree on areas of mutual interest so that we each presented our own interests and Arm Control Nuclear arm control is one of those things so were sort of back to that right now. Right, so russia has been a malign actor i dont think theres new doubt about that in syria in perpetrating Election Problems in europe and here all of the other things human rights, but it is an important country in the International System and on arms control, and some other issues we need to Work Together and thats what were doing. Balancing competition, and cooperation. Really condense this for me first of all is what happens the strong direct and telephone conversation if that doesnt deter putin then what and also President Putin understands hes working with a different u. S. President the new day the how would you expect putin ton play his hand now and might change his strategy quickly . Yeah good question. So what happens if he doesnt follow through but you have to et is limits thats what this is about pushing back on we have a Change Setting Limit when is we can trying to manage this problem. Arthel jim walsh thank you so much. This was a new day and have you back to discuss more, and well give you more time im sorry to crunch you there at the end jim wail issue. I look forward to it.
