Convict exhibited in christmas. Put yourself on the scene are 6 00 a. M. In the morning. Shots Downtown Nashville. Hear from the loud speaker out of an rv in 15 minutes its going to explode. Is that a real message . Is it not . There is no way you can know. These members of the National Police force whose faces and names we put up on the screen one had been two of them had been with the force 16 months, two of them 21 month. Three years, four years, the most experienced amongst them for 11 years. Remember, this is Christmas Morning. Probably the shift a lot of young officers new on the force are working. They went block by block. House by house, business by business, to clear out citizens of nashville, putting their own lives at risk, never are knowing if that hv would explode in that moment. A true testament to the job that they do. And here is the chief of the Nashville Police department talking about these hero officers. These officers acts of heroism is just tremendous. They heard an rv giving out a message. Officers immediately began knocking on doors. And evacuating residents here not knowing if the bomb was going to detonate immediately or going to go off in the time that was stated. These officers didnt care about themselves. They didnt think about that. They cared about the citizens of nashville. And they went in and we would be talking not about the debris that we have here but also maybe potential people. So with that said, the officers saved lives today. Ing. Rachel thats exactly right. Those are heroes who did everything they were supposed to do. As you mentioned, pete, interesting that you have a range of experience on the force. But many of them young and less experienced because this would be the shift that they would get. Christmas day you would expect to be pretty quiet. Its not like new years eve where you expect a lot of things to be happening. So they did all the right things door to door selflessly. Not worrying about what would happen to them knowing that this rv message that was blaring out said a become could go off at any minute. Warning them that that could happen. Just really remarkable. Of we really dont give our Police Officers the credit they deserve for the kind of selfless courage that they show on a daily basis at any minute. . Will the majority of those six on the force for under two years. Inexperienced and yet heroic. I mentioned we focus on the heroism first. At the same time, we also turn to the investigation. Keppleing through evidence of course difficult on Christmas Morning especially cleaning up that scene to try to find evidence. At this point they are not only looking for the motive but looking for the person or people behind the attack as you mentioned a manhunt underway right now. Just following the attack president elect joe biden and President Donald Trump both briefed on the situation. Federal agents are now on the ground in tennessee working any and all leads, hoping something clicks. The fbi stands with the city of nashville today in this very tragic Christmas Day event. This is our city, too. We live here. We work here. And were putting everything we have into finding who was responsible for whats happened here today. The Department Of Justice released this Statement Yesterday Acting attorney general jeff rosen was briefed on the National Incident inearly this morning and directed that all Doj Resources be made available to assist in the investigation. Of course the fbi falls under doj. Will explosion for offices of for at and t in nashville. Caused widespread outtanks in the state of tennessee as well as kentucky and georgia. Several Police Agencies reporting issues with its 911 system. The faa issued a ground stop on flights leaving the airport in nashville because of the communication to issue that has since subsided somewhat. Overnight reports of a suspicious rv near a Federal Building in cincinnati. Agents swarmed that scene. Turns out it was benign. I would imagine based on the level of investigation happening, we will start to get more and more details. Maybe even this morning during of the program. And thank god at this point death minimal in this particular situation. But we do have an eyewitness, buck mccoy, who actually witnessed the explosion who described what he saw. Listen. Well, i was asleep and around 5 30 in the morning, i heard gunshots coming from second avenue. Them, within 10 minutes, i was laying in bed and there was just the biggest explosion i have ever been ever heard. It just knocked the windows from the front room into the back. It knocked the front door off the hinges. If i had been standing there 10 minutes early later, i mean, there is just i never would have survived that. Im a little bit shook up. Im trying to come to the relation that the place i have been living in for the last five years is completely demolished. Will you can only imagine what it must have been like to be downtown, the surprise, the testifying to property. The injuries that were sustained. You know, there are many questions. More questions than answers. We hope we will get some of those answers this morning as we talk to people involved in the investigation. To people who were present or in the investigation Downtown Nashville or are to the event itself. You have to won be der is there downtown Surveillance Footage . There usually is cameras that can help record whatever happens in a busy city center. The Police Officers that were downtown clearing businesses, were they able to get a look at perhaps that rv . The license tags . You would think there was a lot of conclusives potentially to lead us down the path of this investigation behind who was involved with this . But for now the are experience is one that had has affected a city known for cup be tri music, for stars, celebrity, sports and pop culture alike. What we witnessed yesterday morning was nothing short of heroism and courageous actions by those sex officers who received a call about shots being fired in the area and they charged towards the danger like any other Police Officer in our nation would. And when they got there, obviously the danger continued to increase. And they took swift action. And they started working in the streets and in the neighborhood to clear residents from the area and clear pedestrians from the area. And they put themselves in between good and evil. How many apartment residences did they have to clear . Were there many People Living on the second from of the Downtown Residences . How many people were cleared from the area . Do we know . I dont know exactly how many folks there were in the nearby residences but i can just tell you that those officers jumped in and did everything they could to make sure that the surrounding residences and folks. We are all in this together. If you fail, we fail. There is no abc without restaurants operating. And so we found certain departments have been great. Other ones have been horrible. I think a lot of them just dont understand whats come down from sacramento right now. They cant the information right now just like we cant. Our follow has to keep moving forward. We are in the hospitality business. We are good at making adjustments. When there is no clear end in sight. That was nashville mayor john cooper recognizing the brave actions of his citys police as a federal investigation is underway to uncover the motive behind yesterdays explosion. Pete here to react is Fox News Contributor and retired marine corps Bomb Technician joey jones. Joey, good morning. Merry christmas. Its great to have you this morning, especially on this tough subject. This is effectively in Military Speak a vbed are on the streets of nashville. As you are looking as a Bomb Tech Expert yourself what are you thinking about. Yeah, first thing im thinking as far as we know there wasnt a civil i dont know death and thats great. Thats the best thing you want to here when an explosive goes off before you have a chance to render it safe. There are a lot of things that we can deduce from what we are seeing on tv which is all the information i have. At the end of the day they will too a thorough investigation and we will find out what materials were used. How it was initiated and those components exactly will probably be what takes them back to whoever did this. Will joey, tell us a little bit about that. Of course you are an experienced Bomb Technician. The device itself the debris and blast radius tells us something about where it might have on originated and who might have been behind it. Tell us how that investigation works and what you are looking for. You will start at ground zero and do what is called a post blast analysis. You will go into basically where the explosive blew up fromment and you will do a ring out from there. So you have two radiuses you are looking at. Looking at the blast radius the bomb itself and fragmentation radius which is much further. A bomb can throw fragmentation, you know, a quarter mile further than it can send out a blast. If there is a will part from maybe a component used to set this off that blew through the air, amazingly enough they will find something really small very far away. Thats what is really impressive about the job they will do here. At the end of the day, every single component used to make this rv blow up, that will be found in one way or another in the Purchase History of that component is probably what they will use to find whoever did this. We can deduce some things from the type o explosion. I believe it was probably piro technique or fuel rather than actual explosive because i havent seen an actual blast crater. The majority of the damage was from compression, from glass being blown out, not necessarily buildings being blown down. But, as we just saw, even piro technique which is basically fireworks style black powder, even that is incredibly deadly and very serious stuff. Will joey, i know that the investigation, they say they dont know what the motivations are, you know as a bomb expert, you know, what you are seeing at least on television and from the Security Cameras that we have seen. It does it tell you anything about, you know, the time, the place, how it happened . Does it tell you anything about the motivation . I mean, would he know no one was injured. What do you think . What do you make of what this person was thinking . Well, you know, there is a most obvious answer is the answer. The personal set this off if it they did it intentionally at of 30 a. M. On Christmas Morning. It chances are they werent trying to kill people. They had a recording telling people to get away. Political activism rather than try to kill people. When someone sets a bomb off in public like this, they have got one of two motives, either death and destruction from the bomb or the message sent from the bomb. And it seems to me if this was geared towards a message, then the investigation will be that much easier because something there this person wanted to blow up or send a message by blowing that up. That message will exist somewhere or tell by what they were trying to blow up and who may have a problem with that company or, you know, the city of nashville or whatever it is. We really cant, you know, i was a bomb tech in afganistan. I cant stand here and tell you i can detuesday all these things from what happened in nashville watching it on t are v. I can try to give people understanding of from our Law Enforcement did an understanding job and, our Bomb Technicians there on site make sure there wasnt anything else about the blow out. Have some faith they will find who did this and why. Pete joey, real quick you are experienced in areas where a bomb might blow of o. Enough guys are there on christmas. How do you manage the psychology is this going to blow as im trying to save people . Speak to the heroism of that. Yeah, its not even something you management you put it on the back burner and put it out of your mind. There is a job to be done and you do it. I can guarantee every one of these Police Officers didnt think is this a danger to me before they did their job. That was a decision they made when they decided to become Police Officers. And when they got there, obviously the danger continued to increase and they took swift action. And they started working in the streets and in the neighborhood to clear residents from the area and clear pedestrians from the area and then they put themselves in between good and evil and they stood the line and did everything they could and tried to protect community and they saved lives without a unt do. Are. Rachel yeah. We know that one of those officers was literally blown off of his feet. Again, not no one was killed. Just injuries but i think a hearing loss on one of the officers. In this rasmussen poll 75 of americans say they preferred capitalism over socialism. Joining us now to take a deeper look is one of the people behind the poll. Editorial director and Research Fellow at the Heartland Institute justin haskins. Merry christmas, thank you for joining us here today. Look, i found the poll very encouraging. But i have to say i was scratching my head a politic. I have two kids in college. Thats not the feedback i have been getting from them about where young people are at in particular. But, tell us what this poll tells you and if you actually believe these findings. Yeah, well, i actually do believe these findings. I think that was much did a fantastic job conducting this poll. I think its important to keep in mind that although only 11 of these people who we surveyed said that they favored socialism over free market capitalism, there is a couple of important things to keep in mind. Number one is that these are likely voters. So there are a lot of people who may not be registered to vote. They may have said that they are not likely to vote. They be included in this survey. That might explain why there might be more college kids, for example, who say that they favor socialism in own personal life. Younger people in survey did have much more likely to say that they supported socialism. It was about 18 that was three times higher than people who are over the age of 65 and about twice as high as those who were other the age of 40 and older. So, younger people were definitely more likely to favor socialism. Even though its less than 20 thats less than one in five people. So i am very encouraged by. This i think what did shows is that the narrative that the media has been pushing, especially at cnn and msnbc and all these other left wing outlets for a very long time is that socialism is overwhelming our country. Thats the wave of the future. Thats what most americans want now. The fact of the matter is, thats is just flat out not true. Not even most democrats in the survey say that they favored socialism. Although socialism is growing, especially among yorng people. Especially among those who may not be inclined to vote. Socialism is still not popular among voters in the United States. Rachel you also polled peoples feels about alexandria ocasiocortez who is perhaps the greatest promoter of socialism. Tell us about what the poll says about her. Right. Well, we asked favorability for alexandria ocasiocortez. The face of young socialism in the United States today. And overwhelmingly she received a pretty negative remarks. 38 percent said they had a very unfavorable opinion of alexandria ocasiocortez compared to only 1 who said they had a very favorable view of her. And so i think that goes to show, again, that socialism really isnt as popular as a lot of people make it out to be. Even among young people there wasnt a very High Percentage of young people that supported, could. So i do believe that there is a large contingent of young people who are moving in the direction of socialism and if we dont change direction. If we dont stop that growth, then we are going to see this train continue to move in that direction. But, i do believe that there is hope. I dont think that america has adopted socialistic principles. I think there is a lot of room for those who believe in individual markets and individual liberty and free markets to win this battle over the long run. Rachel yeah. Fringes, in the hospital or patient coming with a fever or other symptoms in an urgent care. What the pcr test doesnt do is tell you when the person who had cody no longer has it. It detects virus after an infection for up to 90 days. We are looking at these numbers all of the time. Instead it would be useful to say who is in hospital and who is on a ventilator and who has been discharged which is a much morevel vanity number. With the crisis now between the United Kingdom and the United States in terms of travel, im scratching my head wondering why arent we using the rapid antonin testing. Right before you board at Heathrow Kennedy or wherever you are going. Rapid antonin testing is positive only if you are carrying live virus. Something people can do by themselves. Many of them new to the force, under two years, four of them, and the sargent there had been there for 11 years so theyve got the christmas shift, its Christmas Morning probably going to be quiet and its the exact opposite yet they ran into that, helping people evacuate, and i think of that 24 clock from the series, counting down, you know the rv says 15 minutes is it really 15 minutes, is it actually five . Is it meant to bring Police Officers into try to kill them . How much time do they really have . Are there secondary devices . Is it all a hoax . They dont know, but they know its their job to save other peoples lives and, will, these are moments when that blue line shines really bright and were all humbled by the knowledge that men and women like that are standing watch so that we can live peacefully in this country. Well certainly the Investigative Team right now has a substantial amount of information, so investigative management is the most critical thing for them at this point, and they have a lot of things with the atf National Response team, the fbi evidence recovery teams, of managing both witness statements and as the evidence speaks and they absolutely have to be committed to allowing the evidence to speak, and not speculate, at this point, on motive that allows the information coming into start a frame work as to the possibilities. Secondly, of course, they still have remaining Public Safety concerns. They need to derive anything that would indicate there are other potential devices or potential suspects and then they have the fact of there may be other Human Remains to recover on the site. Pete bernard when you say let the evidence speak thats an interesting phrase, i get what it means. What is the most important piece of evidence they be looking for right now . Theres going to be many direct things, so you have a component of the actual, the bomb investigators that will go into the check call analysis, they will do a number of recovery. As that team is working on its going to be speaking to the incident command and incident command is also getting all of the direct input from evidence thats coming from witness interviews, from video, all of the outlying inputs are coming in, and so ideally you have either a team or an individual that really thinks in the abstract, in much like a homicide investigation, its an after the fact event, so as the evidence is coming in, its starting to build a frame work of possibilities here. In conjunction with that is the Public Safety role here, to just see if theres anything thats speaking to the fact that there may be other things and then on top of all of that i guarantee you the investigators are doing the cyber search on this for every possibility, monitoring social media for comments, beyond that, and all these things have to come into a central source, so these teams can develop theory in terms of motive intent, and any current remaining threat. Pete bernard, you know, i know in your profession, you live in the world of evidence. This is morning television, sometimes we speculate. Go as far as you want, but what based on what youre looking at right now, professionally, what is it leading you toward as you observe it of what this might be about . Well theres some things that are obvious just based on whats available to the public. You have a large vehicleborne improvised explosive device placed in a metropolitan area. In terms of the strange broadcasting from this rv, the fact that Law Enforcement was able to arrive on scene and begin an evacuation, and then of course the things about the detonation time and all of that. I would stress again, it is absolutely important for the investigators to be motiveagnostic at this point and let the information speak. I would guess that right now, investigators are starting to develop some pretty solid ideas of whats happening here, and, you know, even, say for example, if it was an event where the person responsible was emoli ated in this blast they are still going out to the public for more information because its very hard to do Something Like this in a singular event and its very hard to do this as an individual without making some connection. You have to buy supplies, you have to communicate and so a lot coming in. I will not speculate on this other than the fact that it is absolutely unique with the fact that there was the broadcasting of evacuation, i dont recall that in any previous historical events. The blast themself, although extensive damage, obviously that rv could have been a massive vehicleborn improvised explosive device that really could have done significantly more damage but then also, its important to remember the complexity of this thing. There is evidence and things that are going to be a tremendous amount of distance from where the actual blast is so thats why you would have seen yesterday investigators on rooftops and the need for downtown to have put a curfew and cordon off a really large area. Right now, he has two bills, one to fund the government also one that deals with covid relief. Theyre actually put together. He wants 2,000 direct payments to those who need it most. While the president decides whether or not to sign the measure as is members of the democratic squad and congress announced their own way they want to distribute an emergency 2,000 fund to families as soon as possible. They want to get it out there. This is coming from congresswoman permilla jiapole, democrat from Washington State and must be putting money directly in peoples pockets so they can put food on the table, keep the heat on and pay their bills and withstand this pandemic. I absolutely am in favor of giving the American People 2,000 and its the right move and the president is absolutely right but thats only part of what the president is suggesting nancy pelosi gave the members of the house just a few hours to read 6,000 pages of legislation. She did that because she had stuffed this bill full of pork. We are funding a covid relief bill. We are funding two new museums to womens history. We are funding social engineering programs in pakistan we are funding a panel to examine a succession of the dalai lama, all sorts of pork projects in this bill. What the president is saying is make america first. Bring america, make america the priority, so stop funding foreign projects in a covid relief bill, knock that out, and take that money and use it to fund and give the American People a 2,000 check. If nancy pelosi does that, i think shell get overwhelming republican support and shell certainly have my support but just to add a 2,000 payment instead of a 600 payment to the pork thats in the bill is just unacceptable. Rachel but is she going to do that, representative buck . Is she going to take the pork out of there and all of the programs that she loves . I guess im curious is that what the bill is going to look like . Well once again, she gave us 6,000 pages in a few hours to read it. Im sure we wont have a chance to read this bill before we vote on it and the democrats will vote for it. The republicans want to see the bill. If she strips the pork, if she stops giving her pet projects in the United States and overseas this money, she will get republican support but it takes more than just an hour of debate to understand the bill like this and to fully examine it, so i would hope that she would start sending this bill out and letting people know that all these terrible projects are being stripped from the bill and that the American People are going to benefit. This is just a play that nancy pelosi and Chuck Schumer are making to try to win votes in georgia. Lets just be, you know, upfront about that, and its a very cynical play because it deals with something thats very important to the American People pete we know thats what they do. They did the same thing before election day. Congressman is there a way to separate the two bills, the 900 billion for covid relief from the 1. 4 trillion omnibus bill which much of this is contained in, and the urgency created for covid gives an opportunity for all the pork as youre talking about is there a way to just do covid as republicans have talked about for months, and even higher numbers than 600, and then debate the rest of that stuff later, or at least get a chance to cut it out . Its a great point, because nancy pelosi actually had brought other kinds of pork to stop this bill from being passed before the election. She wanted to help fund the fail ing pension systems in california and new york, new jersey, and other blue states. She wanted to make sure that the president didnt get a win before the election by sending out a check to the American People, so she has stalled for months to make sure this bill didnt pass, and now, on the eve of this bill passing, she is going to refuse to take out the pork thats necessary to fund an additional payment that the president was asking for for the American People. Will congressman just a point of clarification i want to move on to ask you about the Coronavirus Vaccine but just as a point of clarification it sounds like when youre answering rachel and petes questions, your support for the 2,000 increase is tied to reducing the pork in the Government Spending bill.
