people are positioned and ready accordingly. >> bill: so part of that, the workers putting boxes and viles in freezer cases to be shipped across the country. the president calling it a modern day miracle. and restaurant owner angela marcon is here again. and first, be marc siegel with the vaccinations are underway. they continue. doctor, how is it going? >> bill, it was an honor to be invited into my medical center to witness this historic event. the trucks rolled as promised by general purna. it's v day. if first nurse here to be vaccinated, tara easter. i interviewed her. she said to me, you know, it's an honor and she was shirks and side effects. she's not worried about it. she's going back to work tomorrow. let's hear what she had to say about the vaccine. how do you feel about those that didn't make it this day to get the shot because it wasn't here? >> i think, you know, it was a very challenging time. lots of patients and families went through a lot. today is really exciting that we can move forward and hopefully patients and families can take advantage of it. >> she talked about moving forward, not looking backward. she talked about compliance, about getting everybody to go along with this vaccine. she was very inspiring. something mayor bill de blasio was here. he talked about a shot of hope rather than a vaccine. he said looking at the vaccine as a shot of hope. let's hear what he had to say. >> a powerful moment. you'll see healthcare heros getting this vaccine. you'll see them being protected so they can serve all of us. >> bill, they're going to vaccinate all of the emergency room workers here, all the staff, not overlooking the respiratory therapists. very important. they're in direct contact with possible covid. icu teams, everyone taking care of adult covid patients. guess who will be in the next wave? dr. marc siegel. i'll be getting it and i'll report to you how easy it is for me, how much easier it is than covid itself. >> bill: it will happen for you within a couple weeks. how many vaccinations have they done today there and how did they select these people, doctor? >> well, they're just building up how many vaccines they're doing. they're going to do thousands the next week or two. they chose tara easter because she's managing the icu. she's in charge of it. she spends more hours in the icu and direct patient care contact than anyone. she said to me, i want to protect the patients. that's one of the main reasons i'm getting vaccinated. people say why healthcare workers? why understand why nursing home residents, of course. 40% of the deaths are in nursing homes. of course nursing home staff. healthcare workers on the front lines because not only could we get sick but we could spread it to patients. we don't want to do that. we can message to america everybody take it, bill. >> bill: last point here. will you be vaccinated by the first of the year, the new year, doc? >> absolutely. i should be vaccinated sometime later this month and then get the second shot without hesitating probably sometime after that. >> bill: thanks for coming back. thanks, sir. nice to see you. now we want to bring in dr. ashish. how many times have we spoken in what do you think so far? >> it's a big day. it's a big day, bill. look, this is the beginning of the end of the pandemic. we have a pretty hard six, eight weeks to go. people cannot let down their guards. most americans won't get a vaccine immediately. those are the caveats. the good news here is it is starting and it's really exciting. >> later this week, moderna will seek its approval assuming that goes through. the big difference with moderna, you don't need the deep freezers across the country. we'll see this process multiply, doctor. >> absolutely. the moderna vaccine is more stable at warmer temperatures. that will help. i really think the pfizer vaccine will be prioritized to hospitals and other places that can handle minus 96 degrees. moderna makes it easier for pharmacies and doctor's offices. so that allows us to expand access. >> bill: so walgreen's was going to begin some vaccinations for seniors very soon. it hit a stop start moment today. what do you know about that and is that to be expected the coming weeks and months with that? >> yeah, still learning the details. it is to be expected. the issue here is this is an unprecedented vaccination effort. nothing we've ever done in our country quite as complex in terms of certainly from a public health point of view. so i expect a bunch of hiccups along the way. i expect some batches to get ruined because not everything will go 100%. we have to keep our eye on the big picture, which things are moving along nicely. there will be hiccups. but boy, it's progress and then some. >> yeah, with this vaccination -- i don't think it's been clearly explained what the messenger rna can do inside of the vaccine itself. this is a revolution unto this whole world of vaccines. it makes it much safer. can you explain that to our audience, doctor? >> absolutely. so messenger rna and i expect most people don't know what that is, this is basically -- if you think of your dna as a textbook that tells you directions on how to make stuff. mrna is like post it notes. any given moment, yourself has 5,000 mrna happening at the same time. so it's nothing crazy. we've never been able to turn that short message into a vaccine. that is what we're doing, getting the mrnas into cells and expressing a protein system to get revved up. we don't know how often we can use this for other vaccines but it is a new technology. all the data says it's safe. it seems to work really well. >> one of the ways that dr. seagle explained it to me, it almost tricks the body into accepting the vaccine as opposed to rejecting it. you understand? >> yeah, that's a good way to describe it. a lot of other vaccines we use a weakened form of the virus, which sometimes can still cause symptoms or problems. this doesn't do any of that. this is basically a little bit of genetic material wrapped in some protein and a little fat that your body is able to take anybody happily but then it expresses that spike protein that gets your immune system ready to fight off the virus. >> bill: would you argue a vaccination like this is safer based on the other vaccines we've introduced the past century, doctor? >> maybe. you know, there's others -- the astra zeneca vaccine uses a different technology. i'm going to let the data drive this years. these vaccines are super effective. i want to look at the data from the others. the measles vaccine is super safe. moving forward, in is an important platform for how we do. >> bill: and i like the comment from the general this weekend. it's battle. we're at war. doctor, we'll speak later in the week. thank you. >> everything else we seek from the feel agencies but nobody knew about hunter biden? that bothers me the most. the fact that joe biden misled the country during the campaign. >> bill: that's how judiciary ranking member jim jordan on the biden investigation. an e-mail shows that hunter biden requested keys for his office mates, joe biden and a chinese business partner. the president-elect has denied any knowledge of his son's dealings. mike emanuel has more. >> there's also another 2017 e-mail obtained by fox news which reveals hunter biden underreported his income by about $400,000. that was income that he received as a member of the ukrainian natural gas firm burr isma that he showed in 2014. revealing hunter earned $1.25 million in 2014. he confirmed last week that he's under investigation for his tax affairs, a powerful senate chairman who has been investigating biden business dealings says this would have been helpful a year ago when president trump was facing impeachment. >> when you talk about investigations within the political realm, particularly one that would have affected the impeachment trial of a sitting u.s. president in the senate, that should have been relevant information. >> an incoming member of the biden team believes president biden wants an independent justice department. >> he doesn't want to meddle. it's that important to the rule of law and confidence to the american people and to our government. so hunter biden issued his own statement and the statement speaks for itself. >> after news last week that california congressman eric swalwell had ties to an alleged chinese spy, a speaksman for senate intelligence chairman marco rubio said if senator rubio is named chairman of the senate intelligence committee, he plans to hold a public hearing on fang fang and chinese espionage in the new year. to do that, republicans need to win the run-off races which will determine the majority. >> bill: thanks, mike emanuel in washington today. thank you, sir. that was quite a moment. onces saying a shooter shouting "kill me" opening fires outside of a church in new york. what police say they found at the scene there. also, a new report on how the chinese government infiltrated other countries consulates and businesses. gordon chang with more. and governor cuomo is throwing a virtual birthday fund raiser as a former aide accused the democrat of sexual harassment. the governor's response on that and mo and mark on a monday when we continue next. ♪ limu emu and doug. and if we win, we get to tell you how liberty mutual customizes car insurance so you only pay for what you need. isn't that what you just did? >> under china's national intelligence law, they're under a legal compulsion to spy. >> bill: why is the download of those documents so significant? >> the communist party has extraordinary security. we have not seen anything like that, a breach of communist party security. so really what it means is that somebody inside did this, which means that the communist party itself has problems. we are going to learn the truth about china, not from our efforts but from courageous chinese people that get this information to the public. >> what do you think wuhan taught us about that message that you have today? >> well, we learned a lot about this from the wuhan eight, the eight doctors that risked everything to tell the world about it. also, even more courageous are the citizen journalists. ordinary chinese citizens that went to wuhan, got a hotel room or a room someplace and then started reporting with a individual video camera. those people have been in prison. we don't know what happened to them. so this is how we learned about what was going on. not from china. we learned it from the wuhan eight and the citizen journalists. >> bill: we pulled back about 1,000 pieces in september. we shut down the chinese consulate in houston, texas. are you seeing a connection between these events? >> what is going on here, is the u.s. finally starting to move in a serious way about chinese espionage in the united states. also that houston consulate may have been inciting violence on american streets according to reporting from radio free asia. so clearly the houston consulate was up to no good and more than just espionage. >> bill: you know how aggressive the trump administration, mike pompeo, has been against the chinese communist party. who would you expect a biden administration? >> i expect for biden to do, give them a grace period and see if they can develop a cooperative relationship. the problem with biden himself is he has views about engagement. let's help the communist party. it's in our interest to do so. those views, although they sound good to the ear, really have caused the grave situation that we're in. so i actually like the trump approach. that's the only way we're going to have any sort of possibility of having a decent relationship with them. >> bill: gordon chang. more to come. thanks for your time today. nice to see you. >> thanks, bill. >> bill: more in a moment. joe biden says he knows nothing about his son's business dealings. but the timing raising conflict of interest questions. turns out, that goes back to his days in the senate. we'll have a look. and she cried covid hypocrisy. angela marcon is her name. she own as restaurant in l.a. she went viral for this video after she was shut down with outdoor dining and a movie operation rolled next to her. she's back a week later to let us know how she's doing on this monday afternoon. alright, everyone, we made it. my job is to help new homeowners who have turned into their parents. i'm having a big lunch and then just a snack for dinner. so we're using a speakerphone in the store. is that a good idea?
