>> d-day was a pivotal turning point in world war ii. d-day was the beginning of the end and that's where we are today. make no mistake, it was not the end. months and months of hard-fought battles occurred and it took diligence, courage, and strength to eventually achieve victory. >> trace: the north korea post has another word for it v-day. team fox coverage with analysis from dr. marc siegel. john roberts at the white house. we begin with mike tobin live in portage, michigan. good morning to you. what is happening at the pfizer plant today? >> you can see the trucks are back in place. after yesterday's historic days with the first boxes of vaccine leaving the docks the follow-up today is more boxes of vaccine when leaving the docks. yesterday 189 boxes were shipped out of pfizer' plant here in portage, michigan. that worked out to more than 920,000 shots in the arm. today 400 boxes or 1.9 million doses of vaccine are scheduled to be shipped out of here. within hours of the first shipment leaving ups landed its first plane carrying the precious cargo in louisville. it was shipped to the eastern states. fedex handles the western states. vaccine goes to 336 distribution points. kits have already been sent to health care centers with syringes and saline yes, sir to administer the shot. the vaccine won't sit in stores long. >> one cannot waste one minute when getting the vaccine to our workforce. we owe it to them. so literally within an hour of when those vaccines hit our pharmacy storeroom and get into our freezer, we'll begin calling people up by their appointments and getting them vaccinated. >> aside from the logistics another challenge is to get people to take the shot. pew research reports 21% of americans won't take the shot. according to the associated press 51% of whites say they'll get the shot. 34% of hispanics and only 24% of african-americans. trace, back to you. >> trace: mike, thank you. >> sandra: the first doses of pfizer's vaccine are arriving as cases and hospitalization rates are soaring and langone medical centers was one of the trials in the past through months. dr. marc siegel is there this morning. feels like a very hopeful day for america, for the world as we start to see this vaccine rolled out in very particular locations including right behind you. what's happening there? >> the excitement is palpable. a as you know, we covered nyu langone where i work at the beginning of the pandemic we had one of the worst out breaks at nyu. wards devoted to covid and we have them again. it seems only right where it all started is where the beginning of the battle back begins. and as the general said, this is akin to d-day. our fight against a virus using the vaccine. i spoke to dr. paul on the vaccine advisory committee to the fda and said it's an unbelievable 10-month period of time to develop a vaccine from the moment they saw the structure of the virus online, 10 months to have a vaccine out is unbelievable, unprecedented. now comes the hard part. getting it into millions of arms beginning here. >> sandra: dr. siegel, we've been showing video this morning. many saw it over the weekend of the distribution that is happening. of course, the carrying and transportation of the vaccine keeping it cold is crucial. how important is the timing of the vaccine once it is distributed and once it ends up at a hospital like nyu langone from the time it arrives to the time someone gets it? >> trucks will arrive this morning. be in the deep freeze 70 degrees below zero centigrade. then they have to thaw them over the next few hours before peek can actually get them. healthcare workers are already lined up to get them. front line workers. they'll take it out of the freezer. i'll interview one of the first healthcare people to receive it at 2:00 this afternoon but the vaccine will arrive this morning. >> sandra: how hopeful are you? you've been taking us through this pandemic from the very beginning and every day it was when is a vaccine available and now to see the first images of this vaccine roll out actually happening today, dr. siegel. how hopeful are you that this will lead us back to perhaps a new normal? >> a couple of points on that, sandra. we still have to comply with public health measures. what everybody is so excited about. this vaccine showing a 95% effectiveness after two doses is unprecedented for anything other than a live virus vaccine. this is not a live virus. we get antibody response, t-cell response. just think about giving this to 99% of the nursing homes around the country over the next few weeks. that's where 40% of the deaths occur. if we simply can get everyone in nursing homes vaccinated and all the staff in nursing homes we'll decrease the death rate dramatically from covid-19. >> sandra: dr. siegel. have you gotten the vaccine ine spoken to anyone who has received the vaccine yet? >> we'll be starting the vaccine this afternoon here. i am deliberatelyin the first tier of people who receive it. we have to give it to the people working on the covid wards first, the people in direct contact with people on ventilators that have high risk events where they get the virus in the air. i'll be in the next tier and receiving the vaccine sometime in the next couple of weeks. i will not be first in line. i have contact with covid-19 patients but not as risky as the people we're giving it to first. >> sandra: unbelievable. look at the operation that has gone into making this happen and here we are today. you as you mentioned will be speaking to one of the first people to get that vaccine this afternoon, dr. siegel. it feels like an exciting day. while we reach the grim milestones in this pandemic. so many dying and suffering from this disease. thank you, doctor. >> this is science battling back, sandra, thank you. >> sandra: absolutely. dr. siegel, thank you. >> trace: another fox news alert now. president trump reversing course on a plan to fast track vaccinations for senior white house staff tweeting this. people working in the white house should receive the vaccine somewhat later in the program unless specifically necessary. i have asked that this adjustment be made. i am not scheduled to take the vaccine but look forward to doing so at the appropriate time. the chief white house correspondent john roberts now on the north lawn. good morning to you. what can you tell us about the president's 180? >> good monday morning to you. i talked with two senior officials this morning who told me it was never the president's intention for senior white house officials or white house officials of any kind to be first in line to get the vaccine. what triggered the president's tweet that you read there was a statement from the nfc spokeman that said senior officials across all three branches of government will receive vaccinations pursuant to continuity of government protocols established in executive policy. american people should have confidence they're receiving the same effective vaccine as senior officials of the united states government on the advice of public health professionals and national security leadership. the senior administration officials i spoke with today told me the president wants people at the highest risk, medical personnel, dr. siegel was talking about, dealing with covid patients or potential covid patients day in and day out and civilians at the highest risk of developing severe covid illness which includes people in nursing homes and long-term care facilities to be the very first to get the vaccine. now, there are continuity of government issues at play. certain government officials will be high up in the pyramid of vaccine but not necessarily first. critical staffers at the white house. certain people on capitol hill and at the supreme court but i'm told that political appointees will not be included in the prior ity list. when it comes to the white house the president and a number of his top administration officials including his national security advisor, chief of staff, vice president's chief of staff, press secretary and kayleigh mcenany and some members of her staff, the president's counselor hope hicks and others have had covid. it's possible they're protected through antibodies and killer t-cells dr. siegel mentioned. the president made it clear the first doses of the vaccine will be reserved for hospital personnel and high-risk individuals. he did say if not for him no one would be getting the vaccine at this point. listen here. >> president trump: if i wasn't president you wouldn't have a vaccine for five years, okay? reading the biden team strikes back. joining us now is the national journal senior column shift. what do you think about this, josh? >> it feels something like a throwback debate to the 1970s when it was a bigger issue than today. what was interesting about the debate epstein, the author of the column was taking something of a liberal position in saying we shouldn't be so stuffy in how we use doctor and other types of titles and a lot of liberals and folks in the biden administration are demanding we call every ph.d. a doctor and insist on this level of formality. the shoe is usually on the other foot. gender politics involved here, political angle with the biden campaign taking on the "wall street journal" it has taken on a bigger profile than it otherwise would. >> sandra: some op-ed questioning is there a doctor in the white house? not if you need an md jill biden should think about dropping the doctor. why was it important to bring it up? >> look, that's a decision of the "wall street journal" editorial page. in the question of media and what this is all about, if you're a prominent public figure the bar should be pretty high for you to play the victim card. people who are in power, some of the most powerful folks in our government usually should be able to have a thicker skin and not claim grievance when there is a negative ill thought out op-ed published in one of the major newspapers. i think there was a lot of play acting taking place. >> sandra: a lot to it. we'll see where the story goes next. thanks for joining us. we'll take a quick break and we'll be
