Anton Midgal, a 15-year-old Berkeley High sophomore, said he first caught wind of a little “jump” — a dirt ramp — at the top of the Berkeley Hills last summer. He had recently picked up mountain biking as a fun, thrilling outdoor activity to pass the time during the pandemic, and he quickly made it his goal to master the jump.
