EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) -- Before selling out areas in her current Eras Tour, Taylor Swift kicked off her Fearless tour in Evansville. Tuesday, April 23, 2009 marks 15 years to the day that Taylor performed to a sold out crowd at Roberts Stadium. It's a concert that Eyewitness News anchor Whitney Ray remembers well. "It's hard to believe it's been 15 years," Ray says. "It was an amazing concert." Whitney attended the Taylor Swift concert with her sister. "That was the one and only time I ever saw Taylor Swift, and it was special because I had an opportunity to take my younger sister who was a huge fan of Taylor Swift," Ray says. "That was something that we got to do together, and it created just a wonderful memory of the two of us." The concert was also memorable because it marked Ray's last show at Roberts. "I grew up in Evansville, Indiana. I lived there for the majority of my life, and to see something like that just end its time -- the end of that era with Roberts Stadium -- it was special for a lot of reasons," Ray says. "The first concert I saw at Roberts Stadium was back in 1990, and that was New Kids on the Block." For Taylor back then, Evansville was an easy choice after meeting a couple Evansville girls at another concert beforehand. "My mom brings them backstage, and I was like, 'where are you guys from?' And they go, 'we drive all the way from Evansville, Indiana,'" Taylor told Eyewitness News back in 2009. "I've also had this really good vibe in my head whenever I thought of Evansville, Indiana because of these girls. When they gave me options as to where to start the tour, I was like 'that one.'" What's incredible is that Ray had to go to work the next morning. "I had to be there at 3:30 in the morning, which meant I had to get up around 1:30 a.m. to get ready and to drive into work," Ray explains. "So, getting home from that Taylor Swift concert at about 11 at night -- 11:30 -- gave me a good two, two-and-a-half hours to rest befroe I had to get up and get ready for work the next morning." Nonetheless, it's an experience that Ray would have done again. "It was worth it," Ray says. "I would definitely have done that again. It's something I'll never forget. The memories I made with my sister and certainly being the last concert that I ever saw at Roberts Stadium, which has been a part of my life for a long time, I would absolutely get up and do all of that all over."
